Looks like that wear is heavier on/around WASD/Z and space, more likely skin oil doing that than heat alone. Could be the lighting though.

I agree but is that normal for a expensive laptop? I have this laptop for 3 months now.

Does seem a little soon, but there are factors that can compound it, and everyone's body chemistry is unique. I've had a model that I believe has the same finish on the keyboard for a lot longer without any wear, but my hands are always a little dry.

What temps do you get when running 3DMark Firestrike? You can send the laptop to us and then we will check it for you. I believe those temps are way too high

I don't know but in Prime95 and Cinebench it's 100c. I've send back the laptop serveral times to the store and they said I need to wait for a bios update.

I think it has more to do with the oils from your fingers in combination with that specific type of material. My NP9175 keyboard looks pretty unappealing after just a few hours, and I wipe it down with some cleaning solution and a non fiber cloth every day. I'd image that if I didn't my keyboard would look like yours. Oddly enough, using other laptops/keyboards do not produce the same result.

I was wondering what other screen upgrade options would be for this laptop? I have the Origin 15S in which is based on this chasis and I have the 120Hz display right now, I was thinking of moving to an IPS display if possible.

Changed mine to a 60 Hz IPS, I don't think the mobo supports the new 144 Hz IPS ones due to 40pin cable vs 30pin cable.

You would need to replace the cable to step up from 1080p 60hz.

120Hz TN and 60 Hz IPS use the same cable, 144 Hz IPS uses a different one.

Hello everyone. I unfortunately managed to drop my sager NP8950/p950hp6 and part of the top right corner screen bezel popped off the laptop lid and now the laptop can display on the HDMI port but the LCD screen no longer turns on. No back light. Can anyone please point me to a service manual for this model? Searching around, I can only find a P957HP6 or a P950HR service manual on the net and the system board, although similar, isn't exactly as the P950HP6 model and I am planning a complete tear-down/dissassembly but before I do that I thought I should find a copy of the service manual first.

Thanks in advance for any pointers.

The upper assembly should be pretty simple, remove the bezel and unscrew the display to check if it's just he cable has come out, is the LCD cracked?

Click on the link below and navigate to Maintenance > Service Manuals > P9-Series and select the service manual relevant to your model.

Thanks for the tip Meaker. LCD isn't cracked so hopefully that's a good sign.

Thanks RG. Been there but the closest match is the p957hp6. I suppose I'll go with that one.

Thank you so much. That was spot on. The cable to the bottom of the flat panel was dislodged only by a tiny bit of a mil, even though a strong sticky tape was holding on to the connector. Once I "click"ed it back on the display was able to shine again! Thanks guys. You're both great!

The hard knock can get past that tape as you saw, cables even creep out over time due to thermal expansion/contraction so it's always worth checking first :)

    Glad you got it sorted!

Is there any downside to using Intel GPU drivers directly from Intel rather than the outdated Clevo-specific ones?

    Only on the successor (P955ER).

Similar chassis, only difference being the upgraded processor (8750H).

I see this laptop has a couple type C usb ports. I know it would be slower charging, but is this laptop able to be charged by these ports?

No, since that would add complexity to the power system for not much gain to the normal user.

Thank you for your response, although I think I would disagree that it wouldn't add much for normal users. As a sub 5 lb laptop, it's meant to travel. Having the option of a USB C type charge port would make a big difference. There are many power banks that support type C, while there are very few that have an AC outlet.

I travel rather a lot, and the power onboard planes is not sufficient to even use the power supply with the unit. So a back up source of power, even for just extending the use, and not indefinite, would be a big bonus. A type C charging option that could plug into onboard power would be very helpful indeed.

Just saying, perhaps it IS something you consider in future models.

You will need to take a charger with you on the go just because of what the CPU can draw on its own, it's not a 15W chip after all, even small bursts could overwhelm a battery bank.

My P957HR heatsinks (that I intend to use in the newer P955ER) are almost here.

Should be able to report back on any findings, such as thermals.

The older, separate heatsink design in the P957HR seems more logical than that of the P955ER.

And I'll be skipping all forms of liquid metal on this laptop, so all test results made will be with MX-2.

Be absolutely sure there is no chance of the liquid metal spilling to the mbo... Seen so many mbos dead because of that!

    What would you recommend?

I find MX-2 to be quite reliable.

However, I've also been dabbing a bit with MX-4 and it does seem to have marginal improvements in most cases (when well spread).

Ok sorry about my question then... i would recommend a better thermal paste, IC DIamond, Gelid Extreme, Grizzly Kryonault!

    Hey guys,

I have a somewhat odd request: Specifically, to resellers: Can I get a replacement cover (rear cover) for the P950HR?

This is for the Clevo chassis branded as the Eurocom Q5, etc.

    Thanks. Resellers, hit my inbox.

Depends primarily on how you ordered for your system. Let me explain.

If it came with storage (SSD or the 2.5" bay populated), then yes, you'll need to remove the keyboard first.

If your order came with no storage and RAM, the vendor will pack all these screws in little satchets, with labels for where the SSD, keyboard and 2.5" bay screws fit.

Hey guys, anyone know where I can get laptop skins for this laptop?

I've looked literally everywhere and cannot for the life of me, find a website that sells laptop skins for this particular laptop.

Its particularly hard as I'm looking to skin the bottom panel of the laptop as it's gotten pretty scuffed.

You would have to contact a place, they are not mainstream so don't quite have the same attention from that sort of vendor.
