    It's set to 8000 something

Hmm, my 4mm pads don't have excessive contact, if I use 3.5 they wont' touch at all.

single pipe would obv dump less heat to the cpu, but during cpu only load there's a less effective bridge for cpu temp

Yeah that's the case with my other heatsink. But with that heatsink my Delta between the GPU temps is about 10-15C at least. Weird thing is that one is perfectly flat.
The slightly bent one that I'm using gives me a Delta of 2-3C , and works with 3.5mm max thickness.

Did you use Limit Reasons in throttlestop to see why the CPU throttled?

The EVOC P870KM1 uses the single pipe...the EVOC P870DM3 uses the dual pipe.

Wonder if the single pipe is better, or is it the other way around?

My KM1 shipped with the dual pipe.

The cards will naturally throttle under furmark and at stock under full load the cpu can hit its programmed TDP.

Do you have wall consumption figures?

It needs to be a cohesive report nailing down exactly what is going onm

    @Donald@HIDevolution
    @Meaker@Sager
why the KM1 is single pipe? people complain that the dual pipe is dumping too much heat to the cpu?

why does some KM1 ship with dual pipe bridge?

    79c / 76c with 29~30c ambient

it's summer and I don't have AC setup yet :(

this notebook with dual 1080 and VC is unusable for people living in tropical climates

I would recommend a single 1080 or dual 1070 for tropical climate use, alongside the VC upgrade

my km1 come with dual pipe bridge, how weird?

+ and - with dual heat pipe bridge.
Have you put on worst possible quality pads between the connection from Gpu over cpu heatsink? As well make it half the size for dumping less heat on the processor heatsink.

my experience with k5 pro, if you gap is less than 1.5mm, it will become like a thermal pad after burn-in for 24 hours

I can put bad thermal pad, but doesn't feel right

I know. But less heat from Gpu over to cpu means better processor temp with load on all hardware. Or the other way if this is prefered. Depends what you want. Not ideal I know.

It's just about overall heat balance and it would count as a slight tweak to the thermal design, the heat bridge is only a small part of the GPU cooling.

Hi everyone. This is my first comment on here. I been reading a lot on this forum, so I thought it was about time to join. I am a proud owner of a P870KM.

@Juang1985 Try Fujipoly 17w/mk thermal pads now called Alphacool 17w/mk.
    http://www.aquatuning.co.uk/thermal...leshoppinguk&gclid=CNGaicy6z9MCFYYy0wodBOMIPw
If you got gaps thicker than 1.5mm, then add a copper shim in between 2 thermal pads.

This gives me a lot of hope for my configuration. I plan on using a single 1070 with an underclocked, undervolted 7700k delidded with the Skylake bitspower IHS on it (for improved mounting pressure). I know people will frown upon me for running a 7700k at 4ghz likely asking why I didn't just go with a 7700HQ instead, but for ultimate longevity, I'd rather have a CPU I can replace.

My goal is sub 70C on both CPU and GPU. Still contemplating if I want to get the VC or not, as others have said it negatively impacts CPU thermals, but I'll talk with @Donald@HIDevolution about that when it's time to order. He has been upfront with me about every other aspect of these laptops, so I expect him to tell me whether or not he thinks I need one to meet my goals.

It depends on which laptop you are wanting. Does it have 2 fans or 3? and if there is an empty MXM3b slot, then 70c max CPU temps maybe achievable. Also there is nothing wrong with a under-volt 7700K de-lid CPU it will out run any BGA crap! and like you said the CPU is replaceable. A de-lid CPU, 17w/mk thermal pads, copper shims, copper screws (mounting) with some good prep work, smothered with Grizzly conductonaut/kryonaut and your good go. A Prema BIOS would be a bonus too! By the way, Skylake bitspower IHS sounds like a great idea... time to head back to my workshop. ;-)

I am curious where you are seeing that the Vapor Chamber heat sink SET negatively impacts CPU temps, and who is building those that they claim has such an impact. Can you link me?

Can you give us a little background about your specs, laptops you have had, and what your experience is in this area?

It helps if you put your model and specs in your Signature.

EDIT...just watched your video and see that specs...thanks for that, but putting them in your Signature is still a good idea.

(anyone?) Some questions that I need answers to about the P870KM please.
Has anyone tried connecting 3 monitors via 2 mini DisplayPorts and 1 USB 3.1 type C all at the same time?
Does the USB 3.1 type C port support over 60Hz? what is its max refresh rate?
Can the 2 mini DisplayPorts work with 1 or 2 USB 3.1 type C on?

I know that there is a HDMI 2.0 port. What is the max refresh rate for this HDMI connection?

I'm wanting to get 3X acer predator xb271hu you see, all running over 100Hz. Is this achievable?

    Best regards,

Judging by your choice of words (specifically SET), it's safe to assume that they are two entirely separate pieces? If so, I shouldn't have anything to worry about with the VC. Now it just begs the question as to if I'll see a difference in thermals between the two heatsinks if I opt for a single 1070. Has anyone from your team tested this? At this point, the only thing holding me back is whether or not I need that VC. If it's possible to buy the laptop, then buy the VC separately later on, I would have likely made the purchase by now.

I believe that's due to the shared thermal design that will have heat going from the GPU area to the CPU area (and the transfer pad taking up some fin space).

So compared to the stand alone cooler versions under heavy system load of both the CPU and GPU the CPU temps could be a little higher.

However the GPU temps for not getting the vapor chamber will hurt performance much more.

I don't know what forum you're reading, but I am damn certain I told you that single GPU with the vapor chamber and a solid undervolt (or low static voltage) at stock 4.4GHz the 7700K will be pretty much ice cold once delidded. And you've even decided to buy one from silicon lottery to ensure it needs little voltage. I don't understand why you want to downclock it on top of everything.

The only time the VC hurts CPU temps is when the GPUs are offloading a crapton of heat into it. If 70% load with 5% GPU load and a 35c GPU grants you 55c, then the same 70% load with 100% GPU load and a 60c GPU is going to grant you more than 55c on the CPU, because there's simply more total heat for the shared heatsink system to get rid of. But 1070N is way underpowered for this cooling system. You should be capable of keeping the chip 4.7GHz without crossing 75c even under the most demanding of loads using a static voltage setting and max fans, with everything you're saying you're going to do.

Could not find any answer, though it seems as long as you can plug in a monitor it should work.

You have 2 display output lanes you can share out between the display ports or thunderbolt ports. Max 2 at once though you can daisy chain thunderbolt of course.

Nothing wrong with showing off as long as you share helpful information. I think we all enjoy showing off now and then. I like watching others brag about stuff and show off almost as much as when I get to. Let's face it, awesome is always awesome even when someone else has that bragging right.

How come the game benchmark is so choppy and like ~40ish FPS. Was that something in your graphics settings? I would think you should be seeing in the neighborhood of 100 FPS with 1080 SLI. One thing that might be the cause is if NVIDIA Control Panel has the power management profile set to Optimal or Adaptive versus Prefer Maximum Performance. Both of my systems run like crap with Optimal or Adaptive.

Edit: And, welcome to the community. Glad you joined us, bro.

Thanks for sharing your specs...but doing so in a single post is not going to carry over to your other posts. You will notice that the veterans here put the main specs in their signature...in another few pages, or posts, your specs will otherwise soon be forgotten.

I know Brother Donald can speak for himself and HIDevolution, but this is not the most popular concept for the people that buy a Clevo/Sager from a vendor that is not a Prema Partner Shop. That protocol is necessary for a couple of reasons. (1) if the distribution is limited to Prema Partner Shops, being a partner adds value for the vendor and Prema. (2) If the only authorized distribution channel is a Prema Partner Shop to install it and not leave the customer with any files, that puts a serious damper on the firmware theft that was a problem before the new protocol was put in place. Believe it not, there are lots of crooks that want to steal the work of others, repackage it and sells it to others as if it was their own handiwork while the talented people like Brother @Prema get absolutely nothing... not even credit for it. That's dirty and it had to stop.

It's really unfortunate that the stock Clevo firmware is such a miserable mess. It should not be necessary to use firmware mods to get a properly functioning laptop, but that's the world we live in now. Everything in terms of firmware is crippled trash from all brands. I'd kind of like to think we could expect better from Clevo, but wish in one hand and poop in the other one and see which one gets filled up first.

As D2 Ultima says, you don't need it...but it sure helps.

Yes, what @Mr. Fox said. If you didn't buy it from a Prema Partner, it is simply not available to you, and it is unlikely that you would get a response from Prema Mod.

I am sorry I could not be more helpful.

Would it be worth it spending 2000$ on this monitor (Acer 144hz 4k) and partnering it with the KM1? Or wait for the price to went down and the new clevo top of the line laptop.

This is microstutter, which what happens when you use SLI and the framepacing is bad. FPS counts under 35 generally produce microstutter, and most of his bench was under 35fps.

This is "unoptimization". Nothing is wrong in his settings. Both his cards kept pretty high clocks due to low temperatures and he wasn't power limited on the system in this case, so he was cleanly getting his full performance. You can see too, both cards were using 99% utilization, which is actually very good for games these days. It just runs like aids.

If its worth it to you that's all that matters :)
    I'd love a 4k 144hz monitor myself but not for $2000.

You're right, but I feel like the current max specs of Km1 would not take full advantage of 4k 144hz spec of the monitor specially in gaming where sli scaling is bad for some games. And the 2k price is crazy! You can basically purchase 2 highend samsung SUHD on that price! https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B...01&pf_rd_p=2971283082&pf_rd_i=B01C5TFNSM&th=1

It wouldn't, but G-Sync would help keep the experience smooth. If it were me, I'd save the money and get a couple S2417DG's from Dell. They have a promo going on to get 2 for $700ish or 3 for $1000ish. 165hz 1440p TN G-Sync panels that don't look terrible. After a slight gamma tweak, they look quite amazing for TN's. SLI 1080's should easily drive a couple of these bad boys at high refresh rates if need be. Then again, if you intend to do any photo/video editing on them, you might not be a fan of it's colors. It is still a TN, albeit a very good one, but a TN nonetheless.

I haven't experienced that playing games unless I use settings that are too high to be of any practical value, or enable worthless gimmick garbage like NVIDIA Crapworks (Arkham Knight, Witcher 3, etc.) to make it a slide show stutter-fest.
