The ASIC scale for each model is different. Even though GTX970M, GTX980M & GTX980 are all GM204 they don't bin them the same way. ASIC is set only after (at the end) they have been binned to be a GTX 980, so we can't compare a GTX980M ASIC to a GTX 980 ASIC.

so that asic scale is based on a gaussean bell curve of a specific batch/model of gpus? thus the best are set to 100% and the rest calculated down accordingly...

TBH, I have no idea how its originally calculated, but by looking at the ASIC, vBIOS tables as well as voltage of a LOT of GPUs we can reverse it and bring things into perspective.

I think exactly how the scale is set can change as some people get over 100% on occasion. It matters little of course when you are clocking well.

From what we have seen, cards with very high ASIC do run high clocks at very low voltage but do not scale accordingly with higher overvolts, instead they just crash at one point.

so you're still confident the OC ability of M980?
sounds good but is the mobile 980's asic comparable with desk top 980?

You can only really compare the ASIC between cards of the same target model.

Okay so, better pricing than GT80S @ EUROCOM LOL
Alienware can't even build their computers and have a 330W hard limit
This comes with a Skylake DESKTOP CPU, GSYNC (which means <60fps will feel smoother than <60fps on any of its competitors), PREMA support

Man.... just insane. Nothing comes close. Nothing.

Not true. Alienware m18x R1 came with a 450 watt power supply if you had dual GPU. Seems to me that Clevo should have a larger PS option if you want to overclock.

This system is using two 330W PSUs.
In our tests even a single one was not quitting on us with 1450Mhz GPU core, 2000Mhz vRAM, 4.5Ghz CPU core and 2667Mhz RAM.
Two are only really required once you go full blast or SLI... ;)

There is no 450W PSU. It's possible to combine more than 1 though. I've had all 3 AW variants.

The Delta 330W has been in use since 2011 and it's still used today.

Those green LED on the back of the screen panel are hideous.

And for F sakes, why is there is a G Sync option? How is this still such a thing? Why is Clevo being asshats. Why is this not standard, a given, and expected feature for ALL MAXWELL capable GPUs? This should not be an upgrade, no cost whatsoever.

UN Fing BELIEVABLE. Clevo can suck it.

Seems to me Clevo should do a lot of things. Like not sell $2000 laptops with speaker buzzing. Or G-Sync standard. Or eDP IPS displays standard. Or thin/lighter PS. The 330 is a cement block, nvm a brick. OMG, the speaker buzzing is driving me insane.

The Hotkey App has 7 color options as well as breathing and of course the option to switch them off.

As for g-sync, that's nvidia for you.
It's their way of milking their product.

The only choice Clevo reseller and other companies like MSI, Asus etc have is to only offer the g-sync versions as standard and not even carry the non g-sync models and some already do it that way. But they still have to pay more for them because of nvidia. And then there is the thing that not all screens are licensed.

Because Clevo is doing the same stupid crap they did with ZM. And blaming Nvidia for it, eh... I don't see it that way. I'll be happy to crap on Clevo until they start offering what should be standard for $2000 laptops, like G-Sync or simply, speaker that doesn't F'ing buzz!

Does anyone have details on the 4k screen such as refresh rate at 4k and 1080p? I would hate to pay the extra and have low refresh rate or burly resolution at the lower than native settings.

G-Sync as standard? Its an upgrade, because nVidia charges extra money for it. For a technology that needs nearly nothing and is free of charge for AMD-GPUs.

Making G-Sync standard just means that everyone has to pay more, even the guys that don't want to. Next time, please read before you blame without reason. Thanks!

It will be 60hz @ 4k and 1080p. You might be able to overclock it to around 65-67hz max at 1080p. It will have a 100% AdobeRGB color gamut though and is looking to be a awesome display, especially if it also gets G-Sync certification.

If you are so dissatisfied with Clevo; How about buying a Aw / MSI or Asus with BGA hardware next time? Alienware has not even the G-sync screen. Two ram slots tempts as well?

MSI don't have G-Sync as standard at all either, even some models of the GT72 don't have it. Nvidia charges a licensing fee for it.

Since there is a cost for a feature that can be there or not offering the choice to consumers is the positive thing for sager/clevo to do.

If my life depended on it, I would have bet my m18x came with a 450 watt PS. But your right, only a 330. Still, one PS over having to lug around two would have been a nice option. Wonder if it is a real world limitation or one based upon making us buy two power supplies to get full potential with the P870DM

The original Alienware systems could be modded to use two bricks (no official support from dell for this), then in the later revisions (much to Mr. Fox's distaste) they limited the power draw at the input to the motherboard so they were totally beholden to the 330W limit.

No one makes a greater than 330W brick due to the costs and sizes involved.

Most likely, Dell will continue with the limited power draw at the input to the motherboard if they're launching a new Aw18R2 model or a new 17 with desktop graphics performance . This will be a NO NO for overclockers.
