becoming difficult for me not to feel the itch to order one of these. Lol. Especially since all of the lights are configurable to different colors. The 4k screen is desirable especially if I can overclock it to 75hz. The 6700k is cool as well but with my Panther and my 4960X having 6 core and 6700k only having 4 cores it wood not benefit me much. The 6700k would not run games much better and I prefer more cores for video rendering. It looks impressive still and I do want one but I will hold out for pascal and possibly 6 or 8 core skylake.

Eventhough I don't have resources to buy this beast anytime soon, the feeling is awesome..

I don't have the cash either. Imagine how difficult it is to have it for review and no way to buy one, LOL. But, it will be fun for the short time I have the luxury to testing it and sharing the results.

Page 2 of the review is up and 99% done. The videos below will be added as the final touches for page 2. The next stage in the review will be stock performance tests, and as soon as Prema has the Sky X9 unlocked BIOS ready we will move into the overclocking phase of the review.

@Mr. Fox: may you kindly drop a word or two about fan noise Level? Not in db's but in comparison to the Panther and the AW's (idle and/or oc'ed)? Not that I expect the Phoenix to be dead silent. In fact it is his regal birthright roaring his POWAH all over the desk! :D

But it intrigues me anyway, if the whole fan Setup has improved somehow in terms of noisiness.

It is good to see Mr, Fox and Prema on board for this release. I am anxiously awaiting the thermals and noise levels on this beast. From what i have researched the 6700k can get pretty hot when overclocked so I would like to see some temperatures with you guys approval of a safe overclock. With the three fans I hope it is does not get too noisy under load.

im not worried about either thermals nor noise level ;) clevo already managed to cool the even hotter haswell 4790K in the zm series properly and with barely any noise level. 6700k skylake is way cooler and phoenix cooling beefed up compared to the ZM, so you can already draw some definitive conclusions from that :) 4.5 ghz should be easy, id say 4.7-4.8 ghz with some modding is doable :D

I haven't noticed any noise at all. It has been running since I turned it on 3 hours ago and being used continuously and the fans are not audible. It does have manual fan control when you want it. Temps are fine. More detail on temps will appear in the next review update.

The EUROCOM SKY X9 is available for order now from their web site. What you are seeing as far as the BIOS video is concerned will not be available universally, at least not for a while. Prema has relationships with key partners and the general public will need to wait until the agreements with those partners run out. The ability to run Windows 7 (CSM/Legacy Support) and have robust overclocking and the full array of configuration options is entirely dependent on having @Prema's BIOS. The BIOS that ships from the manufacturer has almost no usable features... next to nothing.

See above. More awesome details coming soon. I haven't identified anything about the machine yet that I view as poor, bad or objectionable, including thermals and noise. You'll get to see the guts in a teardown and repaste video as well. After establishing stock benchmarks in the review, I will repaste with Liquid Ultra and record that procedure. From my perspective (might not be true in all cases, since I can only judge based on one sample) Skylake doesn't have anywhere near the level of horrible thermal problems that Haswell does. It runs much cooler than I expected it to.

As a bonus (post-review) I will be testing performance with 64GB of DDR4-2133 and I have 32GB DDR4-2666 sticks as well. The Kingston DDR4-2400 is effortlessly flipped to 2666 bv changing one setting in Prema's unlocked BIOS. I did not have to change anything else to do that. After the review, I am hoping I will be able to bench this bad boy stable on AC cooling at 5.0GHz and have the RAM running between 3500 and 4000MHz.

    Spoiler alert...

I knew that CSM/Legacy BIOS support would definitely make it to Pheonix. A HUGE plus !!

@Mr. Fox As the Intel and M$ abandoning EHCI for xHCI. The Win7 installation perk is offered only for select MoBos (Only through ODD not USB3.x iirc). So, do we need ODD for this job or the Prema's BIOS magically allows us to install over USB3.x without any hassle on the 870DM ?

    Thanks !

EDIT : Mythologic, Eurocom offer Win7, though I'm curious about the installation process.

Mythlogic is a Prema partner. ;) Have another look through Mr. Fox's BIOS video. At 6:42, I see USB Configuration - USB Legacy Support. Of course, the BIOS GUY! @Prema can say if that makes Windows 7 possible on Skylake through his BIOS mod, better than me.

There is also a USB install patcher for Windows 7 - Skylake.

Go easy brother Fox. :D ;) Most of us Clevo P7xxZM owners have no thermal issues with our Haswell 4790Ks. It's a Clevo thing. :p

Perfect ending to the BIOS video - Secure Boot [Disabled] :)

No worries. I should have clarified in my comments that mobile Haswell is problem child. The desktop 4790K is hugely improved over the mobile 49XX series with FIVR and that 4970K is not the Haswell I was referring to. The mobile 49XX Haswell CPUs are a thermal mess.

In the stock BIOS there is no access to enable CSM/Legacy support for anything except USB booting. You will only be able to run an OS in Legacy with Prema's BIOS mod. Using stock BIOS the only option is pure UEFI and Windows 8 or newer.

At 6:42 in the video you are not seeing the stock BIOS. You seeing Prema's BIOS mod (not final) which has exposed menus with CSM/Legacy Support added back in. There are hardly any options to set anything in the stock BIOS. In fact, it's downright ludicrous how few options there are in the stock BIOS. It is not much better than worthless in the stock form. For overclocking with stock BIOS you are limited to the settings available in XTU, which is fine for casual to moderate overclocking.

In fact, by about 1:35 in the video you have already been shown everything there is to see in the BIOS, LOL. The rest of the video from that point forward is a tour of Prema's pre-release unlocked BIOS. Once you hear Metallica kick in the stock BIOS is never to be seen again in the video... it's all about celebrating @Prema's awesome work from there to the end.

    End_Stock_Tour.JPG

Stock BIOS has Legacy USB boot, just not Legacy OS support. I used USB to flash Prema's firmware mods. Windows 10 was preinstalled. The thing is, the M.2 PCIe NVMe SSDs requires UEFI if I remember correctly. Those drives are not visible during POST with Legacy BIOS, so I think your options on that part could be limited and you would have to use ordinary M.2 SSD for Windows 7.

Mr. Fox i don't know how you do it,but sign me up for the first class. The video started and i was like ok....... the metal kicked in then i heard the MSI vocalist, "I'll Sleep with one eye open griping my pillow tight",Suddenly Asus and Dellienware began a duet "Now I lay me down to sleep,I pray DM(the Lord) my soul to keep.May angels watch me through the night".Then the p870dm whispered in a thunderous voice if that doesn't sound contradicting "Hush Lil Babies...Yes that's how the video went.

Yep, from T|I Phoenix thread johnksss's SM951 sammys behaved slower too with Win7 on other legacy drives..
You needed a pcie 3.0 slot to run these and they would only run on uefi. No legacy. And if you had legacy drives installed with oses on them, this drive would take like 5 minutes to boot.

Sure hope this 950 is not going to be like that.
Now that 950 Pro is out with 3D V-Nand some one should test it out with Phoenix + Win7 :p
Still good as the Win7 just works unlike all others ;)

@Matrix Leader "what is the release date?"

Indeed, but no one has stock so this is just an early pre-order option. We had our XMG P726 configuration page online 2-3 weeks ago but aren't taking orders yet because the actual availability of the chassis is too far away.

    Right, what he says!
Some shops have their order page up, but all are just pre-orders.
Pre-ordering somewhere now won't get you things earlier, they all get it about the same time-frame.
The stock they have right now is only in small quantity.
Mr.Fox just got lucky to get his hands on a review unit early... :)

I'm benching the SKY X9 stock right now for the next part of the review. All the temps are fine. It only got hotter than I would have preferred it to with wPrime 1024M (93°C) but that test is much more brutal than most things you would do other than something like video rendering. Plus, this has IC Diamond on it. Will be re-pasting with Liquid Ultra. All of the temps are being captured for each benchmark and those will be shared in the next phase of the review.

As far as the fans go, they are very quiet. I am not forcing them to run full blast. In 3DMark 11 you can barely even hear them. You have to be paying attention to even notice. And, if you do force them full blast they are still not obnoxiously loud. If you are concerned about noise, you will be very pleased. It is much quieter than any of the other beasts that I have shown stacked in the photos.

Here's another teaser... CPU and GPU stock... not even using ThrottleStop. I have asked Futuremark twice since the 19th to fix the Generic VGA thing, provided HWID info, etc. That should be fixed soon.

The important stuff above works perfectly.

Also on stock BIOS even XTU has limited options, so in the mod I have also added stuff to xtu and throttlestop so people who prefer to use software also gain a lot more control while in Windows.

Oh darn! that's way too long :(

I was hoping I can find a laptop that has Dual 980M GTX in SLI mode + a Skyflake 6700K CPU at least

You say "at least" but there will only really be one chassis in existance doing that, it's not a simple system to design ;)

Is the P870DM basically the same laptop as the Eurcom X9 Phoenix?

    Sky x9 yes

Do you already have an 870dm, its in your sig so was wondering. If so we would really like to see the 980m sli benchmark numbers.

Sorry now I need to edit my sig to state that this is my soon to be laptop. I have no laptop now I am using my wife's Dell Vostro 5470 for the time being.

Man the waiting is killing me and damaging my nervous system.

I need my Phoenix ASAP!!

So torn between this and the GT80! Mechanical keyboard, 2x980, and two extra M.2 slots vs 4K screen, 6700K, and probably being $1000 cheaper. Decisions, decisions...

Just how worried should I be about the possibility of BGA solder joints fracturing?
