That is not IPS, it is TN which has 3K resolution. The exact type is AUO B173QTN01.0.

I'm still using a small kitchen table for my desk, at least it's plenty of space for two monitors and the laptop.

i haven't kept up with the thread in long time the last i remember there were some lightbleed isses and bad heatsinks are those issues still there, also are there any other issues (asking abt the 750dm2g).

Also how solid is the build quality of the 750dm2 + which is better the 120hz tn screen or the 60hz ips panel and how is the color accuracy, does the 120hz screen suffer from the same banding issues like the aorus one ?

Also for the repaste which is better liquid metal or kryonaut or gelid +are thermal pads required for the repaste do they help in taming the temps ?

Only good thing about mine is two trays for keyboard and mouse. Then again, because of work I'm home 2 to 3 months a year, but I'll still need more space for this beast of a laptop.

I mean, where could I put it here? :D
    [IMG]

Another good thing will be the possibility of having two 2tb hdd + a lot of ssd storage in this laptop. I should be able to go around with fewer external devices then.

Yes you can pack a lot of storage space in and take it around :) With the new m.2 samsung drives you can really pack it in if you have the cash.

Yeah. Even 2.5'' ssd have surpassed hdd. In the end you can only fit so much platter in a 7 or 9mm enclosure, and only so much density per platter. Still there's no reason to go for multiple high capacity (more than 1tb) ssd :p

What are the changes in EC 04? Be careful with the upgrade. You might be damaging it and voiding the warranty. Do you need it? Does it fix what you currently have broken? Does it implement something that you are missing?

    Yep, that's the exception :p

I'm wasting exponentially more space since I've first got an action cam and then started capturing gameplay videos. And those are only 1080p, albeit with high bitrates. I can't imagine how humongous are 4k video projects

In the end I'm just a kid who wants to play, can't compete with the grown up :p

Long story short: If you wan't to game, then the 60 hz IPS panel is garbage compared to the 120 Hz screen. If you wan't to work with imaging software and game only occasionally (and don't care about smoothness), then the IPS panel is the better choice. However for better gaming experience go with the 120 Hz panel.

The guys at obsidian updated my order with info about the tests they performed. BUT with an i7, as they are waiting for new stock of i5 cpu (so I don't mind that difference in temperature between the cpu cores :p )

    http://imgur.com/a/Gb0Mn

I think it's pretty good, but I'm hoping for a nice cpu sample to undervolt and lower the temperature as much as possible :)

    I just got mine!!!

Now trying to install Windows 10 on it. It is a bloody pain in the neck. I used Etcher to create a bootable drive but P775 refuses to recognise it. So I am using Bootcamp to create a UEFI compatible Windows 10 bootable USB. And it is taking forever...

I have this backpack, it's basically indestructible and fits any laptop: https://www.amazon.com/Titan-Checkpoint-Friendly-Laptop-Backpack/dp/B005LMWP78

As for the sleeve I have, I have this: http://www.ebags.com/product/samsonite/aramon-nxt-17-shuttle/210768

This laptop is giving me problems again. The screen just started flickering non stop.
I had to restart the system multiple times. The flickering was occurring in both Windows and BIOS. After a few restarts, it seems to work OK. Will keep monitoring. Any advice on what's going on? My confidence and trust in Clevo and PC Specialist are starting to thin out.

If you're okay with just a sleeve I've been using these from Waterford with a carrying strap forever:
    https://www.sfbags.com/collections/laptop-sleeves/products/pc-laptop-sleevecase

Comfortable, fairly small, and utterly indestructible. After years of daily use I literally don't think there's a thread worth of wear on the entire thing.

Thank you for your recommendation guys. I can see that there are a few good backpacks out there but I don't use them that often. Actually come to think about it, I don't use backpacks at all! I need a sleeve so that I can fit it in my carry on bag. But come to think of it, it might just be worth it to get a rolling bag for 17'' + laptop plus my gear. I have got a prosumer body plus a few lenses etc. so bag needs to be able to fit all of that stuff.

I am thinking of getting this, https://www.thinktankphoto.com/collections/airport-series/products/airport-security-v3-0 . The laptop compartment seems to have dimensions that should fit the P775DM with the exception of height which would be a bit snug.

I'm interested too in something to carry my laptop around. I've used both a backpack and a more classic briefcase at different times, but they both are too small for this model, so I'll have to buy new. And I wasn't happy with the backpack quality anyway.

I'm only still considering wether to go for backpacks or trolley bags..

I'm considering this laptop but I have a couple of concerns.

First, how well does Windows 7 scale to 1440P? I will be using this for things other than games and I am a bit concerned about that.

Secondly, on HIDEvolution, I notice that there is no dead pixel warranty available on the 1440p screen, and that worries me a bit. Why do the other screens have this and this one doesn't? I remember seeing something about color banding or something, is this related?

I'm not going to be editing photos so I don't care about perfect accuracy and backlight bleed doesn't bother me as long as it isn't very noticeable in games, but I'm not sure how I will like it if I see noticeable color-banding.

Why on Earth would you use an obsolete OS like Windows 7 instead of Windows 10 ? You have some software which are too old to run on 10?

I don't want to start a whole debate, suffice to say I'm not a big fan of it. I'm happy with 7 and I'm going to stick with it until I can't anymore. If that means I need to switch to 10 to get better scaling, I guess that would be ok.

Can you answer my question about the monitor warranty tho?

So Obsidian has updated me today with the results of the last tests, with the i5 6600k.

Max temp for the CPU was 60° C. Grizzly kryonaut, delidded and I believe max fan, but still it seems a bit too low for me. My doubts are based on what I remember about i7 6700k temperatures with this chassis, so if the experts are able to disprove them they have my full attention. :D

Also max GPU temps are 49° C in this same test.

Last week test, with the i7 6700k, registered max cpu temp on a range from 83 to 75 degree at different cores, and 52° C for the GPU.

Anyway my machine should have been shipped already (if not it will be tomorrow I believe). I can safely expect it to arrive this same week!! The hype of two years ago (when I was waiting for P650SG) is repeating itself!! :D

Always look at Cpu package power. Lower values aka lower wattage mean lower temperature :D Uncheck all boxes but let stress FPU be checked and you will see higher temperature :) You could easily get same temperature from 6700K with disabled HT ;)

I use a 27" 1440p monitor daily on my desktop and Windows 7 handles it fine. I do not using the scaling (it is set to 100%), but scaling for all Windows versions sucks.

It is worth nothing that, for me, I use a 125% scaling as 100% is really a little too much on the tiny side. Which implies that the perfect screen size (for me) for a 3K screen is actually 17.3" * 1.25 = 21.6" i.e. a 22" screen. Or, to look at it the other way, an FHD screen is perfect for the 17" laptop (2560 x 1440, each divided by 1.25, = 2048 x 1152, not too far off from FHD's 1920 x 1080).

I really have no complaints about this laptop screen, the AUO TN 3K G-Sync screen. Sure, vertical viewing angles aren't fantastic, but there's no situation that might involve that on a day-to-day basis. If anything, you'd be sharing your screen with someone beside you, and for that purpose it's still alright. It does get yellow fairly rapidly, but other than the yellow-ation, the screen is perfectly legible and you can still tell colours properly even at 170 degrees. For a TN screen this is pretty good I'd say.

As for Windows scaling, sorry it's somewhat hit-and-miss. Some windows, especially older-type windows or pop-ups such as device manager etc are just plain awful.

    Hadriel

Most desktop monitors start hitting 1440p around 24 inches and that's not a coincidence.

I chose that panel when I had my P870DM3 from XoticPC and while you could see "lines" if you were six inches or closer, it wasn't bothersome at all. I think HIDevolution avoided adding a warranty for that panel for that very reason. There are lines there but I think due to the nature of increasing the viewing range on this particular TN panel, those lines might be a result. When I get my P870DM3 from HIDevolution, I am going with that same panel. It is a great panel, especially when you calibrate it.

In any case, @Donald@HIDevolution would be the best person to answer truly why they don't offer a warranty on it, because I think they are the only reseller that isn't offering a warranty for that panel.

Ok thanks guys, that makes me feel a little better about it. What I want more than the 1440p is the 120Hz, but having both sounds great.

I'm looking at the GTX 1070, I'm assuming that will have enough power to drive modern games above 120Hz at 1440p?

If not, I would want to drop down to the 1080p screen, but I really want a higher refresh (I wish they had a 120hz 1080p panel for this one). Has anybody tried overclocking their screen refresh? If so, how far did you manage to push it and did you have any issues?

I know I could go for P870DM2, but that's just pushing up the cost even more. It also seems to lack G-SYNC, but I'm assuming if I have a GTX 1070 and am running at 1080 I won't be having many issues even with modern titles at max settings.

The GTX 1070 will not be enough for 120 Hz @ 1440p gaming, hell a single GTX 1080 is not even enough for many games. However, let's not forget that the 120 Hz 1440p screen also has 5 ms response time so it is less blurry during fast movement where the pixels need to be refreshed fast.
The 1080p screen (most retailers use LG Display LP173WF4-SPF1, some use LG Display LP173WF4-SPD1) is a very good overclocker, most panels can overclock to 100 Hz without any issues. My LG Display LP173WF4-SPF1 is operating at 100 Hz without frame skip and it is not just cosmetic, it is noticeably smoother than with 75 Hz. Some golden cherry picked panels can even go higher, some even reached 120 Hz but the chance to reach that is very low. My panel functions until 104 Hz, above that I get black screen. Don't forget however that some older games like Dead Space 3 will only detect 75 Hz which is reported by the EDID and ignores OC made in the NVCP.

Where did you find a model which does not have G-Sync? All new Clevo gaming laptops are G-Sync capable. P7XXDMX- G and P8XXDMX- G where "G" stands for G-Sync. Only retailer who I found to ask "extra" for G-Sync was Eurocom. They are an exception and have stock of VGA cards without G-Sync license so that people who don't care about G-Sync could push down the price.
If you really need 120 Hz @ 1080p and don't need G-Sync to make games smoother, then contact Eurocom. There was an AUO 120 Hz 1080p 25ms IPS panel tested by Clevo, however it has failed G-Sync certification at NVidia so it never got officially offered to be used for Clevo laptops, however Eurocom has stock of it so they might be able to hook you up with one. Like I said it does not have G-Sync so games with lower FPS (50-60-65) will not be as smooth as on a G-Sync panel, however it is 120 Hz.

update: just checked the Eurocom website and they have the 120 hz @ 1080p 25ms IPS panel up for order. You can configure the laptop with it. It is the AUO B173HAN01.2 panel and they ask $125 extra for it. Also, like I said, it is not G-Sync capable.

The panels are not G-Sync certified by NVidia, as far as I know

I've done some research both on these forums and 'abroad' in regards to my upcoming P750DM2-G purchase. The following is the configuration I am settling on, with ***{}*** where I may change the configuration at the last minute depending upon price and availability:

    ===================
    15.6" FHD 1920 x 1080 IPS WVA Matte 60Hz LED with G-Sync
    NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 8GB GDDR5 VRAM - G-Sync
Intel Core i7-6700K Processor (8M Cache up to 4.2 GHz)
    16GB DDR4 2400MHZ (1 x 16GB)
    Crucial MX300 525GB SATA 3 M.2 SSD ***{Samsung 960 Pro 500GB/250GB}***
    Crucial MX300 525GB SATA 3 M.2 SSD
    Samsung 960 Pro 1TB SATA3 ***{or Samsung 850 EVO 1TB SATA3 SSD for $195 less}***
No Secondary Hard Drive (transferring old Seagate 1TB Hybrid SSD)
Intel 8260 AC Dual Band WIFI/BT
Spare AC Adaptor 330W ***{or Spare AC Adaptor 230W depending upon price}***
    ===================

However I'm still unsure about the following despite my research and would appreciate any help:

    1) I own a 27inch Acer XB270HU G-sync capable external monitor. Given that the P750DM2-G also has G-sync, will I be able to have G-sync enabled with this external monitor (via DisplayPort)?
    - Related: http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/g-sync-and-external-monitor.773791/
    - Is it also correct that the P750DM2-G does not have Optimus? I imagine if this was present this would complicate matters further.

    2) How essential is a 330W PSU for heavy gaming/usage on the P750DM2-G given this configuration?
    - I do not plan to overclock until the end of it's lifespan.
    - The 330W PSU will be remain at home so portability is not a concern.
    - From what I understand the 'port' is the same between the 230W PSU and the 330W PSU.

    3) Are there any issues with the P750DM2-G and the new Samsung 960 M.2 SSDs in terms of BIOS capability, thermal throttling, etc.?

    4) I plan on installing Windows 7 due to familiarity. Would any body strongly suggest Windows 10? e.g. Samsung 960 support.

    Thanks!

Agreed here as well. I'm using a 27inch Acer XB270HU set to 2560x1440 with my desktop extended to the P150SMA laptop at 1920x1080, and it works great, but no scaling.

You need a 330W adaptor. The system will not use 300W+ most of the times. but it is always a good idea to have more power than cutting it really close to the borderline.
I have a Acer XB240H 24" G-Sync monitor and G-Sync is working fine with the P775DM3-G. Can't think of a reason why it shouldn't work with the P750DM2-G. Please note that you will either need a miniDP to DP cable or a miniDP to DP converter. I have a Delock miniDP to DP converter, it is cheap and working fine. Both 144 Hz@1080p and G-Sync is working with the monitor without any issues.

Why would not having Optimus complicate things? In matter of fact it is a good thing if it does not have that garbage which NVidia calls Optimus. There are G-Sync capable Clevo laptops which have Optimus, however G-Sync can not work until Optimus is enabled because with Optimus the Intel IGP is handling the display.

Hello chaps, a quick question about flying with P775DM and other Clevo DTRs. Do you guys carry the power adapter in your cabin bag/laptop backpack or just put it in check-in bags? I am flying to Germany tomorrow and while people at Bristol are mighty relaxed, I can't quite say the same thing about the Berlin Schoenefeld security. i checked Easy Jet's (the airline I am flying with) website and they do not have any particular policy on the matter.

Power bricks are perfectly fine in either the hold or hand luggage. I usually carry them on with me along with the laptop.
