I have considered getting a delid 6700k from silicon lottery (one rated for 4.7GHZ). That way at stock and with a mild UV should run a hell of a lot cooler than the CPU I have now. Problem is I cant find any reports saying this will be a solution to my problem.

Are you actually seeing temps get to the point where they're throttling though? I mean sure, I'd rather have my CPU at 70C than 85C, but if it's not affecting performance or noise, I don't really care.

on my previous standard 6700K, even at 4.2 GHz, temps would reach 95C. On my current 4.8GHz rated Silicon Lottery CPU, max temps @ 4.5 GHz = 85C

Interesting. Is this delid too? Am I right in assuming they use CLU as part of the delid process.

I really think I have a bad CPU. Undervolt maxes out at -140, anything more causing laptop to stall.

I bought a 4.8 GHz rated Silicon Lottery Delidded from HIDevolution directly so they can test it for me before shipping it out.

Now it's rated for 4.8 GHz on a desktop so on a laptop, it gives ms 4.6 GHz stable due to lesser cooling than in a desktop obviously.

The fact that the silicon wafer is perfect and generates less heat only means that the longevity of the CPU will be increased and a small overclock like to 4.4 GHz doesn't even need an undervolt or any tweaking on my end other than raising the power and current and turbo max limits in BIOS to ensure no throttling happens due to power limits

Hmm you are convincing me. I still have time to cancel my return.

Heres an example, currently playing battlefield 1 and GPU temps maxed at 75, CPU at 90. I have tried everything, delid, undervolt and 3 different pastes.

Is it safe to say a SL cpu (id go for the 4.7GHZ rated one and delid) would run a lot cooler than the one I have now?

    100% dude

you see, think about it, the only reason they label it at 4.7 or 4.8 GHz is because it can operate at lower temps. Thus, running at stock would mean it runs super cold which THUS, gives you more headroom to overclock as we know, the number 1 enemy for overclocking is heat, then comes adequate voltage

So because the silicon wafer of that CPU is almost perfect, it runs cooler giving you the luxury of overclocking higher if needed, or even running super cool at stock

I run @ 4.4 or 4.5 GHZ 24/7 on high performance plan, never on the balanced or power saver

see current temps with me being in a cafe now without a cooling pad:

What fan profile do you usually use?

This is my main issue. The max or OC fan profile on the 775dm3-g is insane loud.

Thanks for taking the time to talk about this.

I only use the overclocking profile for overclocks at or above 4.6 GHz

for a 4.5 GHz or lower overclock, I have the fan profile set to automatic so I don't hear my laptop fans go loud like a whirlwind all the time

in fact, in my usage workflow, I never hear the fans unless I am playing a game because I browse the web or watch movies most of the time

    I try bro

I logged into @Sherlock0486 and his CPU is not so great but he has Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut which from my personal experience wasn't so great. So I advised him to order IC Diamond as it's thicker and provides better contact with the Heatsink then we'll try again. If that fails to get us the temps we want, then he will have to go for the Silicon Lottery CPU since he already delidded his current CPU and we can't even get good temps on 4.4 GHz on all cores.

We did get good temps with my settings using a -144mV undervolt for the CPU/Cache for 4.2 GHz though

    @Sherlock0486

Here are my temps @ 4.6 GHz on all cores after a 5 min stability test with a -20mV offset only

After this test, I decided to decrease the voltage to -26mV for Core/Cache for better temps

I get idle temps of around 35-40C. If I start watching 1080p videos on YouTube in chrome it gets maybe to 40-45C. I have stock paste from PCS, I also have CM E1 Essential paste and waiting for Grizzly Conduct LM to arrive. I wonder if using E1 will yield any better temps

Grizzly Kryonaut was the worst paste out of all that I've used. Others may disagree but IC Diamond is way better IMO due to it being thicker and making better contact with the heatsink.

Buy an Sl chips is no guarantee, for lower temperatures with stock clock. Sl chips who are binned for a fixed voltage vs fixed higher multi provides no guarantee of lower temp than your max undervolted delided processor you already have. Delide + Liquid metal above and below IHS will help (liquid metal on top of IHS if you have a good heatsink)

Edit. Switch to a Turdbook with a Crippled low entry 6700BGA is no solution. You can clock down to BGA clockspeed if you don't find other solutions to your noise problem.

    @Phoenix
Silicon lottery chips is not a guarantee that you are getting an ice cold 6700K if you just want to run stock clock or overclock hefty.
This is nearly 10 min Aida test of BGA KillER with 4.6GHz + 4,5 on Cashe. And this is not a expencive chips from Silicon lottery. But it works just fine as most of Skylake chips, if you Delide, use Liquid metal on both under and over IHS. And brush down a little bit on the heatsink.

Ok, found out why it's so noisy.
Even if i go to custom part for the fan profiles, it's stuck to default settings and doesn't take my changes into account.
Now i have to find out how to solve this problem.

Just picked up my Eurocom X4 E2 (p750 dm2) with the below specs.

    i7 6700 (65w TDP and a $100 discount vs the 6700K made this a no-brainer for me)

    GTX 1070

    16gb DDR4 memory (free upgrade over 2133)

4K Samsung PLS monitor with G-Sync (definitely not as good as my 10-bit BenQ BL3201PT 32" external 4K monitor but pretty good for a laptop)

no HDD (used my own 1 tb Mushkin Reactor SSD)

I noticed when this laptop isn't flush against a surface, both the CPU and GPU idle and load temps decrease by ~10C. I tested it with a ****ty cooling pad my friend had and just a small book to lift up the back and the results were the same. I would recommend folks get an Xpad slim (just purchased one) and use it if they're planning on keeping this docked most of the time.

    My approach to lowering temps thus far (would love everyone's feedback on this);

CPU- don’t bother with these 90W+ TDP CPUs. Save some cash and get the 6700. With the 4 cores/8threads, and turbo clock, your temps are much cooler. Plus, you’re saving $100 dollars vs the 6700K. At idle, my 6700 runs @ 40C and runs at 65C after a 10 minute prime95 run. That’s pretty darn impressive.

GPU- Use a frame limiter- especially if you have a 60Hz G-Sync monitor. It can drop GPU temps by 10-20C. When I turn on a 59fps frame limiter on afterburner, my card usually sticks to 75C on BF4 at 1440P. If I set the settings so the card can only pump out 59 fps (overwatch @ 4K, temps are at 85C)

Turn off TurboBoost- the extra clock speed wasn’t worth the added heat. Games ran the same- especially with the 59 FPS limit and high resolution. The CPU wasn’t the rate-limiting factor.

With a passive cooling pad like the XPad Slim, the system is close to silent when doing simple tasks like browsing or watching films.

When gaming, it can get quite loud but I wear headphones under those circumstances.

My primary concerns with this laptop are the pretty ****ty keyboard and the quality of the soft-touch finish. It’s inexpensive relative to other similarly spec’d laptops so I guess they needed to cut corners somewhere.

This laptop represents my transition away from desktop computers as I don’t plan to buy one again. I anticipate hope that in 2 yrs I’ll buy a system for ~2000 CAD that provides a high end gfx card, cpu, inputs, a full 4K HDR 75Hz+ screen, and more robust build quality. If they can get this into a frame under 6 lbs and 1.35”, I’m sold.

Unfortunately, there is nothing on the market that even comes close to the hardware specs of Clevo laptops, we have no choice. I had to make the same compromise and have been living with POS keyboard on my current Eurocom Sky X9 and soon the same keyboard also in the EVOC P870DM3 which is the same exact keyboard you have which is the same exact 15 inch keyboard they use on their smaller laptops

    1) Returned my ASUS G751JY

    2) ASUS = 0 quality, it's a matter of luck if you get a 100% working ASUS laptop, or any piece of hardware made by ASUS.

    3) All the latest and previous last 3 Gen ASUS ROG laptops have USB port issues, it's all over their ROG forums

    4) And old post I made 1 year back.......

All ASUS laptops has a problem with the left USB 3.0 Ports. You plug in a USB 3.0 HDD to the left top or left bottom ports and it will randomly keep disconnecting. That is for all G750 series, JX,JW,JH,JZ,JavaScript, you name it. don't believe me, just hang around on the ROG forums and see the jokes of problems they have. pathetic for the amount of money you pay. problems with screens,m auto dimming problem, contrast problem.

I wouldn't use an ASUS laptop anymore even if they gave it to me for free! cheap Taiwanese crap!

    Did I forget to mention...

their implementation of Optimus is messed up...it is very tricky to force games to use your nVIDIA GPU unless you do a lot of settings and even then users on their forums complain that the freakin' games are using the Intel HD Graphics! LOL! horrible!

you want Testimony ? Please take the time to read this:

why ASUS? because people who buy ASUS cannot afford Clevo, no other reason on earth...that's a fact...I was one of them...

    First laptop, 2 years ago..

    G73Sw:

bought it and ran home like a little child wanting to see my lights in the chiclet keyboards....ooops...no lights...tried all driver updates..BIOS update...nope..

Called ASUS, they told me to bring it to the service center it's an easy fix!! whaaaat?? I buy a 2000 USD laptop and go to the service center next day? oh well..I did and they activated it with their BIOS tweak utility that they don't give to customers! great quality control Taiwanese Engineers! send out laptops for sale that don't work properly as advertised...

after 1 week...the screen started giving me fuzzy images...closing/opening the screen lid fixed the problem....wow!! what did I buy? a 1990 Toyota Corolla or a brand new gaming laptop??

They said they need to replace my screen! wow!! the laptop can't last a week without being repaired! i fought for a refund and got it after a long hassle...

    next laptop...

    ASUS G75VW,

ASUS decided to remove their awesome creative sound blaster audio chipset and put some cheap VIA audio chipset which made the subwoofer act like a center speaker rather than a subwoofer..

also..I only had the option to get the matte screen...oh well...people say matte is good...right? NOPE! not on ASUS! the ASUS matte screens look as if someone spilled grease all over them. very grainy image especially if you look at a white screen such as these forums or Google..if you look close..you can see the pixels of colorful rainbows! again shocked in awe for this cheap crap!

So I called ASUS complaining about the quality of the screen, they offered to change it to the 3D screen not coz I want 3D, but only because that is the only screen they have that is Glossy..

took the laptop...2 days..I get a call...sorry sir, we changed your screen, but fried your motherboard....we have no spare motherboards...so if you pay $500 USD we can give you a G750JX instead or you can wait till god knows when till we get a motherboard from Taiwan...

    so I got the G750JX...

very bad driver support....ASUS released the win 8.1 drivers after 6 months of win 8.1 was released...anyone who upgraded while having the old drivers either got a non booting laptop after the upgrade due to outdated bluetooth/wifi drivers or had horrible problems....

next comes the 2D performance of their GTX770M....there is something not right about it! 3D was fine and performed as it should...but 2D was glitchy and choppy...imagine even a simple game of solitaire..the motion of the cards wasn't fluid...I used to get jealouse when I see my friends' Intel HD Graphics perform so smoothly in the Windows environment while my brand new gaming laptop cries in 2D...opening tabs in firefox...wow..another plethora of jerkiness / slow motion

next...they put cheap Atheros WLAN chipsets which cannot connect above 72 MBPS!! wow! had to pay 50 USD and get a Bigfoot Wireless N-Killer from the US and pay customs just to have a laptop perform like a normal computer

    next.... USB 3.0 problems..

basically, I had to connect my USB drives to the right ports and the left ones were kept for my mouse and printer? why? because ASUS cannot produce a piece of hardware that functions right! they claim all ports are USB 3.0 and they are all in blue color...BIG LIE! it wasn't only me, I posted this on the ROG forums and every single one of the members verified the same!

I can't find my thread that I started, but here are 2 examples I quickly grabbed:

Asus G750 USB 3.0 Ports not working with some things

    and

Is it normal that the top left USB port is very slow?

    ASUS? HELLL NO!!

Worst case scenario, save some money and wait, then get a real gaming laptop from Alienware and be happy for life! rather than bite your fingers after you buy your ASUS

A quick Google search on the G750JX presents exactly what I experienced! I've probably formatted that laptop over 200 times twice daily just trying to make it work but every time some quirk happens...

Asus was always the luck of the lottery... Its better now.. My experience with them was great when I had the G73JH.. I have to admit that I like the GL502.. Loved the design and it brings out my gamer boy side.. Would buy it over the P650 anytime..

My problem with ASUS is not the fact that they're BGA, they're inexpensive anyway I'll just sell the laptop in a year or two and get the next gen.

IMHO, they have some of the best keyboards, it is miles better than Clevo's keyboards. I love their sleek design. But only........if only they worked as advertised.......

every time a new gen is released, I go to the ASUS ROG forums just to see if there are any common issues and dude, it's no different even after all these years, this reminds me of my G751JY:
    My G72GX Laptop Freezing up

These are pretty serious issues man carried over from one generation to the next, it's not like something you can ignore, it renders your laptop useless.

I really want them to step up their quality control and have good laptops, their prices are awesome for what you get but man, they just can't get anything right these days

that, and the fact that if you even dare to open your laptop to change anything as simple as an HDD, your warranty is gone. They have a sticker that once the bottom is opened, is broken and your warranty is void. that's how it is here in Dubai at least. Let alone if you actually repaste or try to go underneath the keyboard to change the other SODIMMs

The Asus G73JH had a whole list of problems, bigger then any other Asus ROG notebook till now.. Mine on the other hand, worked quite flawlessly, the Crucial SSD caused some strange crashes but never needed to repaste, just blew some air into the fans etc... 3.5 years worked perfectly till I sold it... Just don't buy an Asus laptop from a 1st batch and buy from a reseller so that they can test everything before shipping it to yo

    Hey guys!
I am planning to upgrade my current 1080p LG SPF1 screen to that new AUO 1440p 120hz 5ms screen, because it is really annoying that many games show microstutter when the FPS drops below 60, Far Cry 4 even show some minor texture stutter on 75 FPS too. I am hoping that a 5ms 120 Hz screen can fix this or at least improve it since the currently used 75 Hz LG screens are 60 Hz screens that were manufactured in 2014 and later pimped by software to handle G-Sync. Hopefully the new AUO screen can handle G-Sync better.

But, is it enough to just swap out the screen and everything will work? Even G-Sync? Is the default eDP cable enough or even that needs to be changed to a new one with a higher bandwith ? Or G-Sync will only work for me with the screen which I purchased the laptop with ? Or I just take out the old screen, plug in the new and everyting will work as intended ? I am mainly worried about G-Sync not working...

Looks like it was. Its confusing because it never was clear what the "2" was for in the first gen X7E series

DM2/DM3 are both Skylake + Pascal models, usually with the DM3 sporting a better GPU/GPUs. DM was Skylake + Maxwell.

The difference is in the heatsinks and stock bricks sent with the units, you can turn one into the other as it were.

So I was offered the 3K 120Hz G-sync screen from Metabox the same as someone has reported here. Told them to keep it on hold for now. Willing to wait until 4K 120hz G-sync IPS through and through. Plus there's the Core i7-7700K coming in Q1 next year :D

Well I found the solution to my temp issues.

It turns out that I wasn't tightening the heat sink down enough onto the CPU/GPU.

I was re-pasting on the weekend and the screw driver I was using just didn't feel right. I had a little watch makers set in the draw so decided to get that out. One of the drivers within that set was a perfect fit for the screws Clevo use. After a re-paste and securing with that driver my temps have dropped 5c. I can now play The Witcher 3 on auto fan profile with CPU/GPU temps maxing out at 80c, which I am more than happy with. This seems to be the most demanding title out there at the moment for stressing the components.

This is always a good site for them
    https://repo.palkeo.com/clevo-mirror/P7xxDM23G/

unfortunately the BIOS links don't work but the manual does. If anyone knows how to contact anyone at the Palkeo site could they let them know the links are broken for the P7xxDM23-G

    thanks
