The 3K 120 Hz screens are the TN ones, which should be compatible with the 775. Eurocom offers those... for a hefty price...

I just got confirmation from Dream machines the 120hz gsync screen is not an LG and is not IPS, he doesn't know any more than that though .

Have you checked that your cpu isn't power limited? I had to manually set my power limit to 95w in the bios because it kept going back to 43w or something, you can check it in the clevo cpu oc app.

My guess is you're seeing throttling or a power limit as above. Pull it back to 4.2 and see what you score.

Currently using this as an actual laptop. It's faring just fine to be honest.... temps are perfect. I definitely wouldn't game with it on my lap but for general use it's fine.

Check for feeling in your feet every 20 minutes or so though :D

How is the sound of these with the 1070 and a proper repaste? Is it bearable? Low-pitch?

Depends on how large is your room

Larger room will make sound of laptop higher/more echo

Also depends on your fan control setting, you can tweak the setting to have faster fan for more cooling

nothing above 80 degrees hwinfo doesn't show any throttling and it's the overclock fan setting could do max fans but i'm happy with 80 for benchmarking

It's the physics score that is a bit low and dropping the overall score, if the cpu is power limited it will drop clocks even at reasonable temps. Have a look in the cpu oc app in control centre at what your power limits are at, should be 95w.

My retailer uses kryonaut paste (Obsidian in Portugal), you can request at some retailers. But is it that hard to dissasemble?

But ok, forget the repaste. How is the sound profile from this with a gtx1070? There isnt yet a review that i could find for it, only the dm1. I'm guessing it will be a bit better?

yeah it was. This was the last score with temps of 68 for gpu max and 79 for cpu. Think there's more room there for a higher score. http://www.3dmark.com/fs/10223515

You take bottom panel off and remove screws on the heatsink. Then carefully lift the heatsink up.

How s the sound on P775?

From my understanding, it has a very good DAC inside and it should also have pretty good speakers, not to mention DSPs !

My system is yet to arrive so I can't speak to the sound quality of the headphone jack. ...however in the audiophile world, ESS Sabre is a respected name.

I can't find any specific model info on if it's a 24 or 32 bit Dac or if it supports 192khz or higher. Maybe only Clevo knows?

In the mp9873/p870dm3 the tps65131 is used to drive the DAC but the chip is on the other side and requires a teardown of the chassis to get to.

Man, the new deal included with the p775dm3-g with Gears of War 4 is quite enticing. I'd pick up the stock p775dm3-g (s) config with a 1070 if the 1440p 120hz screen were available. So, in a slight attempt to address grumblings with the cooling--why not physically cut the heatsink and make it separate for the cpu and gpu? Would cutting it, and removing a small piece of the middle to give each side space and allow a better fit not work? Keep in mind I'm just theory-crafting and would never do this (as we shouldn't have this many cooling issues anyway, hah).

In theory you shouldn't be pushing both CPU and GPU at the same time in gaming or real world applications, having them connected is thought to improve cooling.

Especially as they head at different temperatures, and their coolers do a better job at cooling both at the same time.

It's practically a win - win situation for cooling.

How is noise with a P775? Wondering if it's bad, really bad or fine compared to other laptops? Pushing it to work on max fans would be hard to think of, so normal usage noise shouldn't be too much to handle, no? Some people called it pretty silent, but my Acer is dead silent in normal work, I'm a bit worried that a P775 would be a bit noisy.

That's simply the chip feeding the dack with power. Since that's the only easy part to get to without tearing it all down then that's what I have given you.

    Can't understand at all what's going on ;_;

DACs are fed with datastream from the CPU and then they output analogue signals to the AMP stage.

What is the ESS chip doing in P775?

    Realtek analog output -------------------v
Realtek digital output -> ESS -> some sort of mixer -> output jack, at least that's what it seems like in the P870DM3.

His statement was not very clear to me either, but I think the "tps65131" he referenced (which seems to provide power) was the only audio related component/chip he knows about, as the other audio components (presumably including the ESS DAC) are difficult to see (without teardown) based on its location on the other side of the motherboard. From this, I presume the ESS is still being used for headphone audio/music.

Anyone can feel free to correct me if I'm wrong of course.

@Georgel The ESS DAC in the P775DM3 and P750DM2 takes the SPDIF output from the Realtek ALC892 and convert it to an analog signal that goes through an amp. Check the service manual for full schematics of how this works.

Excellent to know! I can't wait for the screens to be readily available, I'm pretty much sold. Another question, does the top panel/hinges lay even with the body when closed? My p770dm-g top panel is about 2 mm hanging over the left of the base and therefore 2 mm inside the right of the base. No damage, just how it was produced. It gives me enough OCD to ask. XD Thanks for your work iunlock!

Just got mine, still installing stuff, but first impression is that idle is SILENT. Like, nothing.

When the fans get going they're definitely a little more...."whooshy" than I'm used to, but not terrible. Going to play with undervolting with the MYTH control center (is that just the rebranded Clevo control center?) and see how things shake out.
