Congrats! Please do let us know how it goes and in sharing your experience when you receive it.

I'm all ears and I have this thread, along with others, locked in so it'll notify me instantly :) I am genuinely interested, because that same config that you've ordered is what I have my eye's on right now as my #1 pick.

Congrats again mate....very happy for you!

    Serious congrats bro!

I received mine this week, but haven't had much time with it yet. I was running a few things at once yesterday and temps went up to mid 60s, fans kicked up a bit for a few minutes then temps dropped back in the 30s. Really looking forward to legit stress testing this weekend. Definitely undervolting the 6700k as well which will help the temps when running full bore.

UGH. I was happy with my order until Alienware refreshed with the promise of 120hz QHD screens. Talk about a hard-knock P775DM3-G life. Has anyone seen any mention of a 120hz QHD screen for Clevo models? Trying not to hit the cancel button on my order. :p

Screens are easily replaced when the time comes, I wouldn't touch an AW laptop again. If any part of it ****s itself you'll get the blame for overclocking it and have a £2k doorstop. At least with the Clevo if you botch something you can replace a component.

Yeah I hear you man. Absolute total lack of communication with the screen specs for all these models. What a mess they made.

They also need to send out more review units to people prepared to do proper in depth reviews. There's absolutely no reviews except @HTWingNut on the 870DM3.

I've ordered a 870DM2 and feel compelled to do a Legit review primarily because so many of my curiosities are still unanswered and no one else is going to do it.

That would be great as there are a lot of people who are curious about the DM2.

It would also be greatly appreciated.

    That'd be great.

The main things we are curious about (those like me with our wallets waiting) are as follows.

CPU Idle temp at stock clocks

    CPU idle temp when OC'ED

CPU Temps when under 100% load.

    CPU Temps while Gaming

GPU Temps while gaming at Ultra / Maxed out settings

    Benchmark App to run: OCCT

...along with all the typical benches.

But basically, we're wanting to know how well the unit can cool the beasts inside of it.

Max CPU temp and GPU temp.

If you find a reseller selling the P870DM3 with only a single nVidia GPU, let us know. My understanding is that this model will only be sold as SLI.

I'm wary of the shared heatsink from the DM3. But the DM2 Heatsink shouldn't be any better than the original DM cooling the 980. We'll see.

Definitely. If the end-point, where the connection is made, is adequately cooled by fans, I don't know if one will bleed into the other. IIRC HTWingnut (in one of his video reviews) said testing indicated it wasn't really a problem.

Really it sounds like you want BGA book. It all depends on what you're looking for. Do you want a desktop replacement? IE is having a machine with an upgrade path an important factor to you? If not, then I see no reason why you wouldn't go BGA because regardless of what the fanboys say there is a genuine reason for BGA to exist. You can not currently achieve the same form factors with LGA as you can with BGA. So decide. Is sacrificing on Dell's warranty and form factor worth an upgrade path for you? Personally I've had the crappiest time dealing with Dell's techs but eh.

I mean, that's because the answer is "no". No one is selling a 120Hz screen with this as far as I know. I asked the retailer I placed my order with (Mythlogic), and they said that it wasn't going to be available any time soon.

If someone finds someone actually offering a 120Hz panel, feel free to correct me, but I haven't heard of anyone yet.

OriginPC is offering a 120hz 1080p G-Sync screen. I have confirmed this with them on my order. It is not the 120Hz 5ms AUO model, however. They won't give me exact part numbers/supplier information, which is fair imo.

EDIT: Checking the configuration modes on OriginPC today, I have discovered the 120hz option is no longer anywhere to be found. I am requesting more information on this.

EDIT 2: The option has been removed due to a lack of supply. They're out.

Really? Dells warranty has been nothing, but top notch, in fact the best. Not the techs lol as most of them are not so great.

Yes I need the power and portability, which is why the 775 is on my list.

No I don't necessarily want a bga, but what good is a 775/870 if it can't even cool a 1080? That's just as crippled as a bga laptop. If the new AW cooling system doesn't turn out to be a fluke, then that's going to change a lot of things.

As far as upgradability goes, I rarely keep any computer for more than year to be honest. But that doesn't mean that it defaults me to a particular type of a portable machine...ie bga or lga...

What makes you think P775 will not be able to cool a 1080? temps I have seen so far seem pretty reasonable .

It's not that at all, it's just that were limited on the data at this point. Whereas the 1080SLI as we've seen so far is a bbq pit with live coals. What a bummer. I hope that there's a solution to tame the temps, because if it was able to run with decent temps, a SLI would too be on my short list.

Well, I should be stress testing mine tonight. Definitely by early tomorrow at the latest. It won't give you any info on SLI, but should fill in some blanks on the 1080.

Thanks for the upload but idle temps are rather meaningless. Especially after a cold boot. How about under full load no vsync?

Someone asked for idle temps earlier, so I posted it before starting to stress test with Prime95. I'll post the full load pics tomorrow. 1.5 hours in, max temp of 81 on 2 cores, 79 on the other 2.

Just a warning... P95 is not very good for testing anymore it just creates ultra unrealistic heat and power usage (kind of point but I mean to extreme of possible damage). Anything else like OCCT, XTU stress are much better than p95 for new cpu.

(At Least this is whats been drilled into us at work)

Perhaps! It still leads to high temps no matter what you do though once it hits avx rounds. IBT is much preferred around here perhaps for that and old fear from haswell era onward if it was indeed resolved.

    Thanks for the video.

Would you all be so kind to run OCCT Benchmark instead of wPrime?

OCCT is the real deal and the only benchmark that can tax the CPU to its extreme limits. I've tried them all (FurMark and alike are excluded from what I am referencing, personally I think those type of benches are silly and unrealistic.) - Anyhow, I think you guys will find OCCT intriguing.

With all my previous benching, I had thought I was pushing the CPU to its max, but soon found out (Thanks to @Mobius 1) that the bench apps that I were using were toddlers compared to OCCT.

Try it out and please post up some results.

    Thanks again!

OCCT to stress the CPU and cache, but for memory stability you have to run GSAT (linux)
