I've had to amend my order with pcs in order to facilitate getting my laptop sooner as they are giving wait times of over three weeks for the 4k screen I originally wanted. They've said I can send it in when they arrive but will have to pay an upgrade fee which I'm a bit annoyed about because it's their problem not mine that they can't get the screens and deliver on time. Sending another e-mail today to see if they'll discount this charge for the screen as a token of continued custom. I'll have spent 3300 pounds in less than two years with them

Agreed. I find the whole ordering something then waiting until they get around to processing the order till they send an email saying they don't have it in stock for a few weeks quite annoying. Why they cannot have stock status on the configuration/order confirmation screen I don't know! I understand the labour involved for screen replacement and shipping costs. It's only over 3 weeks wait (could be more though) so is it not worth just waiting a little bit extra for the 4k screen?

Man, please don't take this the wrong way, but you can't post screenshots of using Internet Explorer, people will judge you  Haha. On a more serious note, use Firefox or Google Chrome instead, their website is pretty new and I'm sure the outdated Internet Explorer has troubles to display it. Your link even opens perfectly on my android phone (using Firefox).

Yes, it's the 1080p gsync screen, it only has 60Hz and 48Hz in nVidia CP. Have not try to go higher, never done it before, but I can try.

OK thanks. Yeah try and make a custom resolution, then change the refresh rate in the options. Try 75hz and test. If you see a stable picture add it. Then try 100hz, if you also get a stable picture add it.. And you're winning!

and then maybe try smaller incremental steps, like 10 / 5 / 1 Hz intervalls instead of just going straight from 60 to 100 :D

Weren't there rumours of a 120Hz 4K display in December ? Probably at the same time with Kaby Lake refresh.

Honestly, I have no idea whether it was related to overclocking the display, but I tried overclocking the refresh rate to 70 hz 2 years ago, and my display died within a week (stripes everywhere, not physically ripped or something). Therefore I would personally refrain from attempting it again... unless someone told me my case was completely coincidental and overclocking the refreshrate can not harm the display as it did in my case.

If something like that for me I'd probably be suspicious in the same way.
I'm not saying it's 100% safe, but your story is the first I've come across.

My old machine and most of the 870D guys have been sitting pretty on 100zh (from 75hz) for months on end.

Looking at picking one up from Origin PC with the 120hz g sync screen. Any idea if the fans and heatsinks are thicker on the gtx 1080 model than the 1070? I'd like to get the 1070 and have the ability to upgrade easily.

It's probably going to be a $500+ upgrade for such a panel from resellers... I personally doubt 4K 120Hz will be available then but should be available sometime 2017..

Woah it does say 120hz G-Sync.
So there are two things going on here.
    1. they have a G-Sync 120hz
    2. No other reseller has the P775DM3 with a 120hz panel G-Sync or not

I've been very curious about this as well. If the future 4K 120Hz option will cost an arm and a leg, then that makes me feel better about making the purchase now with just the 4K w/ GSync.
I am leaning toward a 775 at the moment...Hmmm...How about that 1440p display? Any news of that being available in the near future?

Do you have any idea if the eDP port in the 775DM3 will be able to push UHD resolutions at 120Hz ? I have some doubts.

nope. UHD is capped at 64Hz bandwidth wise with current eDP ports. but that would, at least in theory, translate into 144 Hz at 1440p ;)

The better question is (and it's quite easy to answer), will your single 1080 push enough FPS to make a 120hz 4K screen worthwile? ;)

I doubt it with newer games. But it's always nice to have the 120hz at your disposal even if you need to drop to 1080p.
Not to mention even on the desktop feels good at 120hz.

I am also interested in this option too. Some Aorus laptops have 1440p 120Hz. I don't need 4k but need a little more resolution from 1080p, so 1440p is a good middle man.

I'm not interested in gaming but productivity. UHD is great for displaying more information and 120HZ is great for the eyes.
For gaming I have my watercooled rig.

    EDIT:
    According to Wikipedia:
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DisplayPort

eDP 1.4 is based on DP 1.3 so it should be able to push 4K at 120Hz.
I guess Clevo still uses eDP 1.3 which can only do 4K at 60Hz or 1440 at 120 Hz. Correct?

Maybe, but when my monitor is running on 60 Hz the desktop is a bit choppy, however on 144 hz its buttery smooth when I am moving a window around.

I mostly feel the difference with the mouse movement, I have a 60hz monitor next to my 144hz one and going between them does feel different.

Confirmed with Origin PC that is in indeed 120hz and g-sync, and that the thermals between the 1070 and 1080 are the same for easy upgrade. Bought one to replace my mistake model (p770dm-g). I talked to an Origin rep on the phone; the 120hz screen is NOT the same screen msi/Aorus have been backtracking on. Origin's screen is also around 10ms response time (in what capacity I forgot to ask). But uhm...go OriginPC for having correct advertising.

Someone asked a few days ago regarding the drivers. They are now up on Clevo's website(link below). It was noted on the 870DM2/3 thread that downloading was a bit spotty, but no idea if that's still the case. Just a heads up. I'll try downloading them later when I get home.

It's pretty sad that no one can clearly answer this as I've seen you ask this several times, yet no one has replied to it with a defined answer LOL. I mean come on....if other vendors like AW with its new refresh (FHD, QHD and 4K w/ 120Hz Gsync Panel offerings) are offering panels that are not available on Clevo's (and resellers) then what's up with that right? Just saying....

Okay now generally speaking (thinking/speaking out loud here for the general public)....

If I was a small vendor keeping the DTR / Benchmark Only enthusiasts alive, I would be on the "A" game in providing hardware components on the cutting edge w/ engineering that can provide results in mind for the community that DOES EXIST [according to the % of their (OEM's) total sales], COMPARED TO THE MAJORITY OF THE CONSUMERS who buy AW, MSI, ASUS, Acer, etc.... As a DTR provider I would not slack one bit in providing all the NECESSARY hardware such as a 120Hz / GSYNC screen......Hands down. Cut and dry. Point Blank.

So is it that the people who buy the Clevo's now with the crappy panels (well that's subjective of course) get doomed, while in a few months time when the better panels come out, it leaves the early adopters in the SOL, aka, dust? Real talk. No BS, straight black and white, clear and inarguable...ie...legitimate question.

Let's be realistic now...This is a legitimate concern and very realistic....just to emphasize.

The 775 is on the top of my list and my wallet is waiting....just to be clear and for the record; I don't condone bga by any means and I love the flexibility of LGA/MXM, but lets talk real life scenarios here vs. trying to enlarge my virtual e-peeen that does not matter to anyone or anyone else, but only to the simple meaningless internet. (ie...one spends their hard earned money for themselves and on practicality, not to enlarge their e-peen__s. Let's be real.)

Look at my sig....AW is SOLD SOLD SOLD. Gone gone gone. I'm not loyal to any brand....I just want practicality and results. If a 870 can't even cool a 1080 to respectable figures, then where does that steer a potential / serious buyer like me with my cash waiting to be released? Seriously....

That's why I've asked before....would buying a DM3 (with its heat sink) be more wise in that it would be able to cool a single 1080 better than a DM2 with a different/lesser of a heat sink?

No brand loyalty folks...my money is going to where performance and cooling proves itself.

So no fan boy BULL$#!% here. Just straight up real talk / practicality / sensibility.

Again, my AW is SOLD LOL... The 17R3 served me well on my frequent trips, but now with Pascal in bga form and DTR's and Gaming Laptops being in the same boat (1080 vs 1080, no more 980M vs 980)....that obviously makes anyone with a brain think twice as the GAP has narrowed to 1:1.....Yes I've said it. Real world, real talk....gaming wise a 6920HK/1080 with a 6700K/1080 (with the SAME GPU) will be pretty much neck to neck. (Unless the BIOS is fluffed to rubbish....yea yea yea. I get it...and if any OEM does that to the BIOS, shame on them and t hey WON'T get my money. Nein. Nein. Nein. 100% Guaranteed.)

    * Note: I truly need portability since I travel 1-2x per month. Yes no joke. That's every month out of 12 months out of the year. This is why a DTR is important to me, let alone I video edit, render and game, which makes "having true power," make sense to my usage habits. I'm not just sitting here at my desk with my DTR on top of an AC trying to bench to enlarge my e-peen_is; which I totally respect for the art of the sport, but more so my usage habits are much more important in terms of having portability & power than purely benching. DTR's have a purpose and it's not for benching. I truly need the power.

So tell me straight...what would be my best choice for practicality?

    Let me answer that:
The practical choice would be for me to go with who ever provides the power, performance, endurance, reliability, support, and WARRANTY that would make me feel, as a CONSUMER, confident in that my investment is well protected in terms of having the best warranty coverage at the tap of my fingers at any given time.

Can any Clevo/Reseller provide that? Well, to be fair some are offering a standard 2 year warranty, but the main question is, would they be able to provide warranty services on par with Dell? NO. Flat out NO. Therefore, that leaves Dell/Dellianware/Alienware in a class of its own, which is the BEST IN THE INDUSTRY. (So now, having a beefy Desktop + a respectable Laptop for on the go sound more attracting than ever yea? Don't lie...because for the price of a DTR you know that is true and there's no wiggling out of that fact.)

Yes for the record let me present a NEW CLASS of Laptops......"A class of its own called, WGA, "Warranty Grid Array,"......forget ball brid array or land grid array for a minute.

Instead think in terms of providing the best protection for your investment, which is a warranty that makes your purchase worry free.

    So you tell me....

    Where should my MONEY go....?

I really am liking the 775, really am....really really am....775 or heck even the 870.

I'm not loyal to any brand, instead I measure practicality in respect to my investment WITHOUT trying to enlarge my 'e-peen_is' that means NOTHING to my life and my investment.
