im an owner but even though meaker is not, hes more than knowledgeable enough to help you out even if he doesnt own the specific machine

Am not an owner of this specific machine but that does not usually stop me from being able to answer certain types of questions better than others who do own it.
If you post some questions about what you are after I will answer any I feel I can Others can chime in, and you can get the information you want. This forum is good for friendly people helping out.Mr Najsman and Vcdechagn like this. -
That said, if Meaker offers advice/assistance, I'd recommend to take notice. He is very knowledgeable!!!
On another note, I wrote asetek asking about its water cooling laptop design. They said it is still a prototype and if we'd like to see it in future Clevo products, contact Clevo and request it. Considering Clevo is going to all desktop CPUs for their enthusiast designs, we should request they examine this as a future cooling solution! Considering it took an alienware M18x laptop with a 2920xm to 4.4, it could do quite a bit for us. Just a thought.Last edited: Mar 21, 2015TomJGX likes this. -
It's specifically an owner's perspective I'm after... no disrespect to Meaker's knowledge and I'm sure he can clarify stuff if needed.
Portability is number one on my list of requirements hence why I'm researching the best desktop-in-a-laptop power per dollar for a completely dedicated machine that will run nothing else but my NLE.
Firstly, are you running the 4790k/980M inside your chosen Eurocom P5/P7 model...?... I see you have them in your 'Dark Knight' machine on the P751ZM
In an ideal world you would also be a video editor using Sony Vegas 12/13 on this P5/P7 and could let me know how it well it manages heat dissipation in all aspects including 4k rendering.... though of course a xeon 6 core would probably be an upgrade I'd choose when 4k becomes standard use and hence why this P770ZM is a very attractive prospect with it's LGA1150 socket and primed for use with the new 5th gen processors.
Do we know if Wingnut is going to do one of his awesomely thorough reviews of the P5/P7 anytime soon...? or have I not searched correctly and it's done n dusted but I've somehow missed it...? -
With that said, the current xeons have a lower heat, are immediately supported, and will run at the specified max without a problem. Xeons also have a different built in TDP for AVX2 instruction sets, so this may be the preferred method for your usage. If you want to try to maximize the possible multiplier used (and deal with the extra heat), then the 4790K is the way to go. Don't expect amazing temps with your stated purpose (without winning the Haswell chip lottery). With that said, no other laptop will be able to perform at this level for what you are planning on doing with the laptop, so jump in. Read this thread and the P750ZM thread (specifically the part about CPU selection). Contact BigSpin about his Xeon used in the P750ZM and see his posts on heat under load. That should get you where you need to be.Mr Najsman and jaybee83 like this. -

Well, finally I got to order my P771ZM from the guys at Mountain.es. Hope to receive it in about 2 weeks (they're going to be soooo loooong ).
I'm going to check the 40+ pages of this thread to see what's happening with the 771 -

Yeah people who had the full rep bar can be ignored now in a lot of threads. It's a huge backwards step for this website, along with the loading issues and inability to multiquote, and that editing now takes you to a standalone page (making it harder to copy/paste).

I keep getting a netwbw02.sys BSOD. very frequent. I've updated all the drivers I found on the sager website, but it hasn't stopped this. Anyone else having this issue/know a fix? I've DRIVER_IRQLL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL(netwbw02.sys)searched google, and it seems like it's tied to either sleep mode or airplane mode, something to do with the WiFi switch, but I haven't enabled either mode, so I don't know why it would cause this error for me.
EDIT: Full error code is "DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL(netwbw02.sys)". I'm trying to do some homework for my comp sci class, and having this bsod every 3-5 minutes is getting very annoying, and making programming very near impossible.
EDIT 2: It doesn't seem to matter what applications I have open. Anything at all causes the bsod. The only thing that doesn't is the home screen. At this point, the rig is just a really expensive, very pretty paperweight.Last edited: Mar 21, 2015 -
The first answer is to uninstall the network adapter(s) altogether and reboot. Method 2 involves safe mode with networking or clean boot. It is a network adapter driver issue. Do an uninstall through device manager, reboot, and clean install the network driver(s). Do you have intel or killer? If intel, I'd get the driver direct from its website or from its program intel driver update utility. Otherwise, do a fresh download of the driver and verify the content is in-tact (SHA-1, etc.).
Edit: You could even verify the driver is gone by checking the registry after uninstalling to verify full removal before proceeding to reboot and re-install.drdameon likes this. -

I've got the impression from plenty of reading that the 4790k will give me the best processing performance from a 4th gen Quad.
What I need to discover if I'm going to put a Xeon in the mix is to work out which one of the E3's is best all round value in comparison to the 4790k
One thing that doesn't add up at Eurocom is the CAD$359 extra to have the E3 1271-v3 when I can buy one for CAD$150 more than a 4790k online at Amazon here in the UK.... unless they're just trying to make lots more money...
Edit: Of course as the price of processors drops with age the Eurocom difference could just be that someone has 'forgotten' to update the prices on the configuration menu...Last edited: Mar 22, 2015 -

Has anybody done some temperature tests after under-volting this machine? I know it might sound weird, given this machine is just begging to be over-clocked, but I like a cool/quiet machine. And temps in the 90C is just not something I'm overly fond of.
-
A percentage of potential customers who don't bother cross referencing prices and FX rates offered will obviously give the business short term gains, but I think that gets cancelled out by a greater percentage who are instantly put off buying once the proverbial cat is out of the bag.
For me it becomes negotiating leverage... -
Though I could be wrong. But for me, those prices just mean I will buy my components afterwards and install them myself. I understand Eurocom needs to make a profit, and I would happily pay a reasonable markup over their costs to have them install and warranty the components. So from my perspective, they're losing out on sales (and profits) by charging far too much.
Their whacky USD FX rates also mean that US customers are put off. Which is sad, because if you price out a machine in CAD and then convert it yourself into USD, it is cheaper than if you set the default currency to USD and spec out the exact same machine. Yet again, Eurocom is losing out on sales, due to people being put off by (erroneously?) high prices. -
-
Of course, it's entirely possible I actually missed the posts discussing surface temps after under-volting while reading through all those pages, in which case I just suck (still not the same thing as lazy). -
I'd recommend Notebookcheck article for the main article about surface temps. ( http://www.notebookcheck.net/Eurocom-P5-Pro-Extreme-Clevo-P750ZM-Notebook-Review.136663.0.html) That should help. I think I've seen surface temps discussed elsewhere, but can't think of it off the top of my head... -
That NBC review is what peaked my interest, given the relatively cool keyboard temps under load (they're about on par with my G751JY surface temps, even though I'm using a mobile CPU). I'm just wondering how much of a difference in surface temps an under-volted CPU will make. Though I fully appreciate not everybody owns an infrared thermometer.ajc9988 likes this. -

Chassis temperature will swing by a smaller amount than a drop on the chip itself usually.

Also if you are going to get this laptop, remember, you will have to tweak everything to make it work well for you.. This means undervolting CPU, repasting CPU etc...jaybee83 likes this. -
I got my P770zm (called Octane) from pcspecialist.co.uk Its the first time Ive purchased from them, and I have to say the service has been superb. You build your laptop up from the chassis, full options on cpu, gpu, memory, hdd, etc the whole lot! as well as uprated thermal paste. Although they build to order and you have to wait several days, you get updated on the process as it happens and also the names of the people that build your laptop, test it, and the person who passes quality control. ah... PG pilot I see... where do ya fly...?
I went to PC specialist first only to discover that I couldn't have the 4790k because in their opinion the P771ZM (euro edition of 770) with the 4790k runs to thermal cutout under their stress test conditions and as such they only offer up to the 4790s. That made me wonder exactly how much load they put the system thru in their stress testing procedure and I have an email waiting for them to open tomorrow morning asking if they can detail the testing procedure for me as obviously this Clevo is 'coping' with the 4790k by people who've already got the set-up.
I've also suggested to them that I'd like to go outside their box and be able to make my own choice on processor... and can I simply sign a waiver that allows me to have the 4790k.
There's also a company here called Nova-tech who are going to quote me.
However... I don't believe anyone in the UK or the EU will beat the price I can get the Eurocom P7 into my hands.... I have the co-ordinates of a time/space warp that means it'll pass 'Go' and I'll collect $200Last edited: Mar 22, 2015 -

just tried 4.4Ghz @ 1.15v, 81 °C max with Max Fans and propped up, got BSoD tho @ 4.5Ghz
Edit: i did it count me in the 10k 3Dmark Club. CPU @ 4.6Ghz 1.25v / GPU @ 1376/2907 +50mV (i really like my first 980m )Last edited: Mar 23, 2015 -
Re: PCS, I did notice they initially offered the Octane with a i7-4790k, and someone in their forums did get one (and possibly others) but I was a bit saddened that they chose to drop the cpu due to heat issues. It would of been nice to get the unlocked chip. Thats why I went for the next best unlocked chip, the i5-4690k, as I don't do that much video editing, I shouldn't really miss the 8 threads of the i7.
It would be interesting to investigate how much of the heat issue has been attributed to the Hot Key program! I only say this because PCS offer all the relevant drivers in you own personal download section, once you have placed an order. And without hesitation I installed them. But what I did notice is that the HotKey program was not the latest version offered by Clevo. And it allowed my cpu to get up to 99C and gpu to 84C, this is all at stock clocks, which was a bit of a shocker!! I'm now running HotKey 3.11.24 and it does a much better job at managing the fans to keep both the cpu and gpu around the mid 60's even when stressed out. So much better. And I bet good enough to keep the heat of a 4790k in check. Lets face it, the cooling arrangement of this laptop is pretty amazing.

@jaybee83 ...
PC specialist here in the UK won't sell the 4790k inside their version of the Clevo P771ZM because they hit thermal cutout running the torture test.
I have no details of the testing parameters but wondered if anyone has managed to do likewise... ? -
superkyle1721 Notebook Evangelist
I'm not sure either but I do know out of the box settings will reach about 40% or more thermal throttle as well as power limit throttle using prime 95 as the testing platform. Undervolting however can take care of the temps as well as a high grade paste.

with some minor changes though its totally manageable up to 4.5 Ghz without any hardcore mods such as delidding or mobo reworks
- prop up the back of your machine for improved airflow
- repaste using gc extreme or ic diamond
- undervolt cpu core and cache
- use max fans (fn+1) whenever stressing ur cpu to the max (rendering, prime95, transcoding, etc.)
delidding and using clu will let you oc up to 4.8 ghz without throttling
so yeah, its definitely possible to tame this beast, just needs a bit of tinkering.
btw this data is based on my own experience and that of other batman owners, so basically first hand

10141 points in firestrike gpu @ 1396/2900 +62.5 mV / cpu @ 4.6ghz can't get more out of it. Tried more but i feared the worst the power brick is at it's max, tried 4.7ghz but NB got black due to power issues, then i tried to give a bit more for the gpu instead ~1420/2900 +75mV but same, blackscreen when testing 3DMark. Looks like i have to invest in something it seems
edit: the spread spectrum crash striked me too, wanted to try copying some games for the LAN onto my ZM and the system freezed and shutdown. I'm pretty sure it's spread spectrum, cause i had my CPU @ 4x4.2ghz @ stock voltages and Ram was at stock too. Maybe setting the option to 0 instead of 50 isn't the same as on the Desktop Z97 variants were you can actually turn on or off cpu spread spectrum as an seperate option.Last edited: Mar 25, 2015 -
Looks like prime 95 really does put the cpu through it's paces, but under abnormal circumstances. -
