Like night and day! But that old bastard thaught me a lot about PCs.

No Assismatica lets you upgrade all you want. They just put warranty stickers on every part because RAM, SSD's, etc are billed separately.

I'm very impressed with the battery life! More than 2 hours streaming from soundcloud on wifi, browsing the web and word processing and it still indicated more than an hour left.

This whole refusing to shut down thing is grinding my gears. Happened again just now... I don't get what's causing it. All my software and Windows are up to date...

weird i just noticed, static and adaptive voltage booth don't do anything in XTU right now, only offset so far and throttlestop doesn't have full skylake support yet. Wanted to try how low i can go, cause today i was able to let my 6700k throttle, playing some GW2 due to addon release and yeah at 4.5Ghz and GPU @ stock i was able to push the thermal envelope :p, mostly i want to use static cause ingame my voltage was flunctuating from 1.19v to 1.34v it's pretty weird to observe.

So far I haven't had any shut down issues with my 770DM, I'm not sure if it's a bios issue you guys are having. I know Mythlogic uses Bios from Prema so maybe that has something to do with it? I had mine shipped fully installed and I went through every driver just to check for updates and they have driver versions on here so new that I can't even find them on the web lol so just throwing it out there. Strange but at the same time Windows 10 is still very new in the grand scheme of things so hibernation/sleep bugs have happened before, I'm sure it will get ironed out. I'm running Win 10 Pro 64bit by the way.

like a virgiiiin....touched for the very first tiiiime! like a vuuuuuhuuuhuuuhuuurgiiiin.... *hums along*

btw, concerning shutdown issues: check ur power options! ull have to configure win10 manually to ACTUALLY shut down when u press the power button or click on shut down, should help :)

either try nvidia control panel by adding new custom refresh rates/resolutions or u can go check out the tool custom resolution utility aka CRU :) google is ur friend ;)

btw, for drivers i can warmly recommend the mysn/xmg driver repository (their DM designations are xmg U506 and U706 fpr 15 and 17incher, respecticely) or www.station-drivers.com (french website, gotta use translate but they always have the most up to date and exotic drivers around of all sources ive seen thus far :) )

Decided against screen overclocks. Anyone knows any keyboard light effects for music? It would look kinda cool especially since the "Tempo" isn't much. :p But it's still a great machine... And how does one slightly underclock the GPU?

Hi, long time lurker here. I am almost certain I'll be buying a P750-DM, but I have a question: Will I be able to upgrade the CPU later on when Intel releases better socket-compatible CPUs, or will this cause heat issues? One of the reasons I like this laptops is its serviceability, hence the question. Thanks

Shark00n, not sure about Windows 10, but the fix is probably the same as Windows 8.1.

Disable hibernation. It disables soft shutdown and Fast Startup - not needed for SSD boot, which is not connected to Fastboot in the BIOS - leave that on.

    In an Administrator cmd Window:

    powercfg /h off

or if you get an error, this will work instead:

powershell -Command "Start-Process 'powercfg.exe' -Verb runAs -ArgumentList '/h off'"

    Then reboot.

Now your shutdowns are real, and you cleaned up a 1x memory sized hiberfil.sys file on C partition.

I also disable pagefile for memory >8GB, that will remove that pagefile from C partition.

Looks like a great notebook :)

I called my dealer , he told me that an update Bios / VBIOS was coming, and it will correct the problem.
For the moment he gave me a special driver , I look at whether it works and whether I share you

hmscott's suggestion may have sorted your problem out, but the issue that Shark00n describes is also similar to a problem discovered with one of the earlier BIOS versions. I would recommend that you contact the company that you purchased your laptop from and ask them to confirm if the BIOS version you are running includes the bug fix for shutdown issues. It was discovered and solved round the release date, so it may be that your laptop arrived without the BIOs version that solves this issue.

That won't change the ID of your GPU (ID is generated by MXM board hardware).
Also the ZM/DM system BIOS may on top of that reward you with a black screen.

just curious is there a way to at least try gsync on my notebook, dl'ed gamenab's driver but these don't work on my 980m it seems, i mean the driver itself is working but no gsync unlocked in nvidia control panel.

Just wondering. I ordered the Octane II 17.3" yesterday from pcspecialist. It's the Clevo 771DM-G model. You guys who have the same model (771DM-G), was G-Sync not included, even though it says 980M (which was my choice) G-sync? Should I contact pcspecialist and make sure they not give me a non-G-sync GPU?

    Hello dear Clevo friends!

I am reading this topic for a quite a long time, and I got enough money to buy mine now.
But I have a few questions and I hope you can help me out.... :)
    ( CLEVO P771DM-G | Octane II 17" | u705 or any other name)

    So I was wondering that,

    1. WIN10 is still killing the screens? (the 17.3 IPS FHD 1920x1080 Non-Glare LG screens)

    2. 230W is enough power for this:
    gpu: gtx980m + cpu: i7-6700* (>> question #3) + ram: 16GB 2133MHz CL13 Kingston HyperX Impact + ssd: 250or500 gb Samsung 850 Evo
or should i order it with 330W ?

    3. People told me that this clevo modell despite of its 17" size... with i7-6700 or i7-6700k is throttling, a "little".
In the notebookcheck.net review, they established that:

"The temperatures inside the casing are more disconcerting, particularly the significant heat build-up in the processor during the stress test. In this case, it operates just below the allowable maximum of 100 °C (212 °F) despite minor throttling to 3.3 GHz."
Should i choose other than i7, a lower cpu ? If so, which one? (if i want to avoid the throttling)

    4. Other people also told me, that the notebook case is weak plastic and only the upper rubbing part giving some "premium" feels. True or false?

I have been using my P750DM-G for a while now and I can answer some of your questions. I have an Intel Core i7 6700, a GTX 980M and a 500GB Samsung EVO M.2 SSD ass well as other components like a 7200RPM 1TB HDD.

    1) Can't answer this, sorry.

    2) My 230W power adapter is still enough for charging while I'm using this with pretty power drinking tasks although at a slightly slower rate.

    3) I have never seen my i7 6700 (in the 15.6" model) go beyond 80°C in gaming benchmarks, at 95% utilization in a room that is 35°C. Your mileage may vary as you may use different softwares. If you really want to be safe then go for a core with a lower TDP but this is already pretty good. ;) Also, the 17.3" model uses a 15.6" parts on the inside with a block of plastic to fill the gap. It basically has a bigger screen and a sub-woofer. :p

    4) In my opinion, I think Clevo decided to use plastic because the chassis actually does heat up quite badly in heavy use. The plastic helps to slow the chassis from heating up too fast or too badly. Also, for the 15.6" model, I have no flex whatsoever on the main chassis and keyboard but the screen experiences some. The rubberized finish is comfortable but is a fingerprint magnet.

I hope I answered some of your questions! :D

Yesterday I received my P751DM-G, installed i7-6700k with simple stock paste.
Temps while stresstesting CPU @ 4.2Ghz in XTU no higher then 85degrees with fans on auto. No throttling so no worries. Result is something like 1320points.
Fans on max shurely brought those temps down. I will try some better paste later on.

I did a simple overclock @ 4.5GHz but not much gain in points in XTU, something like 1335 and also no gain in ableton.
Maybe my overclocking skills are really bad or something else is going on.

the intel xtu benchmark is a bad test to check performance gains from cpu overclock. as far as ive seen, it gives u almost random results :D better check with cinebench 11.5/15, physics score on 3dmark11/13 or wprime, for example. those will give u more accurate performance numbers ;)

    Hey guys!

Is anyone using a 7.1 system with their notebooks? The optical port would allow this in theory, right?
Anyone reccomend a good pair of headphones? Either 7.1 or a solid 2.0 pair.
I also heard the regular audio output is already pre-amplified, any guesses on how many ohms it can drive nicely?

Also, ran the XTU stress test for the past half hour just for giggles. Temps stable at ~75/78ºC, very nice!
    I have Noctua paste.

On a different note, I'm having trouble getting the latest BIOS from my retailer, any hints where I can get it? Or is it really advised to get the retailers version?

I can really recommend the AKG K712. They are an awsome pair of stereo headphones. Very true and balanced sound, good bass aswell.

EDIT: I use them for everything from playing games, music production, listening to music, to movies etc. Basically everything :D

Yes, most of them, so thank you for that. :) (by the way, the keyboard pressure point is good? Feels nice?)

Then I guess I will go with i7 6700+230W. This cpu version has lower TDP than the k version. (91 vs. 65)

I still wonder about the win10 LG screen killing spree... So...If anyone has some info, please share. :D

Couldn't find those near me, I like to by headphones in person. But better off this way, they were way off my price range.
Got a pair of Sony's MDR-1A, let's see how they hold up.
The mic on these laptops is really good! I'm even gonna sell my old headset.

Hello guys, I just bought a Samsung XP941 512GB SSD drive to use it as a scratching disk for my work (Animation and 3d), I have read that this drive gets very Hot! under heavy work, so, I was wonder do I have to add a thermal pad or something to it to cool it down, or it's normal and no worries about it? Thanks

from what I've read on the subject, the drive will just slow down, so performance may drop. There's nothing more it should do. There was talk a little while ago about adding small thermal pads, assuming it fits, to see if that helps with any throttling.

I think most of us were waiting to try this with the 950 pro, but the same principles should apply to sm951.

I see there is still no topic for this new u716 model (why? the phoenix has its own topic, and this u716 also comes this year too, no?), so i ask this here.... The P775 has new keyboard? Or my eyes tricked me (again) ? :)

I wonder I should wait for the new model, or buy this batman 2.0

How much dropping in performance, does it drops in large, is there any numbers available of how much this drive will slow? I still have a chance to change the drive if it looses a gap in performance. Thanks

Try searching on 'SM951 throttle' for some info.

    For example - http://www.anandtech.com/show/8979/samsung-sm951-512-gb-review/11

More a Batman 2.5. Many are still under NDAs, so not much is known. What is known is support for the desktop gpus (except the 200W monster) and thicker find on a combined heatsink made to cover the desktop gpu. Other than that, the wait is on.

I just saw XMG's comment with the U716 pics, and the keyboard got my attention.... the comment says that the new model will be revealed before X-mas 2015, so i thought someone has more info in late october... but i guess not yet, the waiting is still on, and NDA is NDA... :(

Seriously, if you can wait, get the wingman!!! Keep an eye out for a high binned 6700k (higher than the 4.8 ones at 1.425V currently for sale at siliconlottery.com) and buy it. See if your reseller will install it for you and remove the cost of the cpu from your order (don't delid yet if you want this done). Pick a reseller that will carry a fully unlocked Prema bios. Pick up at least two 8gb 3000mhz sodimms (ddr4) and send those with the cpu. These can be OCed to 3200 if the wingman will have the same support as Phoenix (and I believe Batman 2.0). With this combo, all that is left is lapping and delidding, repaste, and watch it scream. As I haven't found anyone binning (cherry picking, in reality) mobile GPUs, this will give you the best performance you are likely to get. Even without mods, the high binned CPUs from companies that do so for OCers should run a little cooler at the same multiplier. But, it's what you want to do...

How far has anyone taken the LG LP173WF4-SPD1? Is 100Hz safe?

I got mine at 100Hz, everything seems fine but I would like to know if there are short/medium/long term adverse effects.

    Finally tried G-Sync properly! BF4 @ 100Hz.

    It's amazing! Silky smooth!

The 950 will be cheaper, without the problems of the 951 and the better performer. So, anyone looking to buy, the choice is clear.

Keyboard is a touch stiff and a little cramped but just use a bit more strength and it should be fine. I quite like it, in my honest opinion. :D
