Lets say I want to keep this option 40-60% start stop. But sometimes I need to go out, and I need 100% of charge, do I need every time to go to bios and reboot device for this option?
It looks a bit wierd for me, becouse in my old Lenovo Y580, I have energy manager driver, which contains the similar function for charge-limit(60% or 100%). But I can easily change the setting in Windows whithout reboot.

I've read mixed reviews on heat. At stock, yes, about 6 degrees Celsius. At same clock OC, some reviews put the temp about equal. This varies by chips and has certain control issues, although the same heatsink was used. On the other hand, skylake handles high voltage well!!! So is a mixed bag. Ddr4 had high comparative latency. The ipc clock for clock is at max 10%. If you are gaming, then you won't see much in frame rate increase. Linpack is 20% slower, which is more the latency on DDR4. So the improvements on skylake come in other places. This has been my crux of my debate to sell my oc zm (4.5 in the 70s).

Edit: this isn't to say you or Mr. Fox are not correct, but when he made this statement, he was using the Phoenix, which had much thicker cpu heatsink fins. I haven't seen the temps on the dm yet. ...

Hi folks. I wold be thankful if you could help me a bit with storage configuration for my future dtr Clevo P770DM (6700k, 970M, 8 ram + update). I woul like to set 1Tb Hitachi 7k1000 for data storege. Aswell I need some sdd for OS , games and work projects.
What I will do on notebook: gaming, home video editing, programming, etc.
I can consider options with 1 fast ssd for 512Gb, or 1 fast 128/256 (for OS) + 512 cheaper for other needs, or some RAID options. I have some budget, but I want the good price/performanсe.
    Thanks in advice.

How comfortable would you be with installing the drives yourself? You get a better price doing it that way! If you must have nvme, currently your only option is to pay too much and buy with the machine (you don't get a break on cost on eBay really for the sm951 and it is not a consumer product). Raid nvme drives are the fastest setup possible. Otherwise, depends on your needs...

I can take care about it, no problems. I just confused in choise options. I would like to use some set appropriate to power of laptop itself, but I dont want to pay for features that I can not feel in real usage. To say honest, I am not sure is nvme necessary or not, I know only so its new standart and provides faster speeds.

Why not considering taking the 980m? It will be more costly upgrading it later.

For sporting the OS and a few programs only a 128GB m.2 should do the job pretty well. For data storage a 2-4TB HDD should be good enough either.
Then you can decide of sporting a 1GB SSD for gaming and editing stuff or a costly 512GB m.2, if you want to have nvme.

Do you have a need for fast storage? If not, then just get something like a Sata m.2 like a Samsung evo 850 512gb. It will hold all programs and games (i did that and have 350+gb with primarily my software and games on it). Then use the 1tb that comes with it for storage. If you don't need the fastest storage possible, this will give a good setup. Figure out your program and os storage needs and what will be noticeable to you. Also, if you get larger ssd than needed, you can move the files (photo or video editing) to the ssd while working, then copy it to the storage drive when not using/working on it. Really depends on need and budget...

I hope upgrade to Pascal next year(eGPU in worst case). Now it costs 370 Euto extra, while only available LCD is FHD. 970M seems totaly enought for FHD now, + oc if needed.
So what is better for OS - normal m.2 or new nvme?
    Thanks.

    Edit:
Seems like a good deal anyway. I need storage speed only for comfortable system speed. I think optimal choise to get something similar to your suggestion for the start.

    I would get the 980m + slower m.2 drive.

The 980m is way more powerful and more easily sold at a later date. We don't yet know if Pascal will have issues or use a different form factor.

Slower m.2 drives are slower (duh!) but they also heat up a whole lot less. Nvme drives as stupid expensive right now, it's best to wait for prices to stabilize and thermal throttling issues to be solved.

    Just my 2 cents

It sounds like you are doing similar to my setup. If you can squeeze it now, 980m is nice. But 970m is a good value buy. If you are upgrading, shark00n has a good point, plus you'd have to buy a new heatsink for the card (it's a combined cpu and gpu heatsink). He is right on resale value, but after two years, the costs are going to be low enough that the larger cost now is not recouped. Check eBay. 770m is about $250-300USD, 780m is mostly around $400 ($100-150 more), unless you get a good deal on one. So that is the resale market. You spend $300usd less, recover $100+ less on resale, then have to buy a $100 heatsink with the new card, which will cost $450-1000 depending on version purchased of Pascal. So use your best judgement. Meanwhile, you may want 16gb ram. I'm a tab whore. I sometimes, with what I do, get to 14+gb ram use, 12gb is easy to use, and 8gb is just simply insufficient for internet research... Just a thought, know your ram needs, you don't want that to bottleneck your system, but you don't need 32gb unless you so heavy image editing/VM, etc.

Also, as has been asked recently, here are some photos to show the physical difference between the 180W and 200W GTX 980.

200W card is the larger one in the U726 marked image, 180W is the smaller one in the U716 marked image.

Damn, you make me think about 970vs980M again :) I saw some messages in Pascal speculation thread, so likely at least some models suppose to be compatible.
But I need a new heatsink anyway after 970 and 980 aswell, right?
Mostly I am playing in LoL, World of tanks, borderland 2, etc...not too much in last demanding games.
You absolutely right. I will have 8 x 1 Gb RAM 2133 Mhz at start. I want to upgrade it to some 3k+ Mhz 16Gb(8x2) later, when bios will support it, or just buy one more the same 8 x 1 Gb if not, or if tests will show low difference. :)

970m and the 980m (not the mobile 980) use the same exact heatsink. But Pascal likely will be hbm, meaning new heatsink for the layout...

well ill be damned, that is one sweet n SEXEH machine right there! @P775DM :D interesting, that it sports the same cooling as its ZM & DM brothers, even though the GPU has 80W higher TDP to be cooled, hmmm.... i hope this wont interfere with CPU cooling....

Can that heatsink be used in the zm/dm if the m.2 socket isn't used?!? Also, it would have to. From my use, no load on cpu and full load on gpu raises cpu temp 5-10C. CPU load raises gpu temp 10-20. So there will be interplay, just a question of how much. Ps, pressure film arrived today! :)

The exhaust/fin part of both the GPU and CPU heatsinks are bigger in the P775 than the P770, it's not easy to see but they extend further to the rear of the chassis - that's why the P775 has that not-quite-flat derriere ;-)

hmmm, difficult....ud have to cut off some plastic of the chassis to make the longer card fit. also it would place it right above the CMOS battery, so ud either have to remove that, too, or worry about higher temps eating through it....the latter of which, of course, not being a big deal considering how cheap those batteries are :p

@XMG: ha! that was actually my first thought when i looked at the width of the heatsink fins! but i wasnt sure, thx for clarifying :)

There is a little that can be cut on the blower output, shave down at the exhaust, and watch it scream!!! might need to pull the dremel out on this one.

@jaybee83, shouldn't be an issue. The heat radiated down doesn't fry the itc chips, then the battery should be fine. My concern was height on the m.2 port clearance. The components generating heat are pointed up and heatsinked... Just need to find that power port on the zm for the card...

I only got the one year. Which means mine is almost up. I really want to sell it for the wingman as I have already bought a second heatsink for modding. If not for that, I'd buy another one and do the mods. I'll wait to see, after finishing all mods short of this, whether I find a buyer. Someone, I'm sure, will want a pre-modded zm with performance that is greater than a stock dm, without having to do the work themselves... I really want this 775 with better cooling...
Edit: you know the amount of work I'm willing to do to mod correctly without injuring functionality or external aesthetics!

How can I make a bios dump, for others that might need it?! P751DM-G here.

LE: Still I don't know how to make the cpu work @ turbo speeds. Not a big speed increase, but I am bothered by the fact it won't go to turbo. I've seen it going turbo, sometimes last week (seen it in XTU) but I don't recall under what circumstances.

I have tried several combinations of power plans, high performance, balanced and what not, temperatures are in low 60s. Any tips?

After a struggle choosing my next machine, I have finally ordered a p770dm from Eurocom...finally.
The CPU is 6700 (non-k) and 980m for the GPU.
I would like to extend battery runtime when the system is unplugged by intensively undervolting and underclocking both CPU and GPU even if overall performance drops beyond 70%. Is this possible with a non-k CPU? and if yes, what runtimes should I expect under normal use?

@XMG are you able to test virtualization software VM Workstation and Virtualbox on Windows 10 on the p75xdm?

I am able to run Windows and ubuntu 14.x (debian 7) virtual machines fine on VM Workstation but Virtualbox won't even install (kernel security error).

I have reinstalled Windows several times and am beginning to think this is a BIOS or hardware issue with my new XMG 506.

Interesting question, I'm interested to know if this is possible with a non-k processor. If you don't mind me asking, what was your reasoning behind not just getting the 6700k if you knew you would be exploring underclocking/volting and just remove all doubt as to whether or not you could do it?

the first reason is that the 6700 is cheaper o_O, and I really don't need to overclock. I read somewhere that non k cpus allow undervolting/clocking hence I based my assumptions accordingly.

it would be great for me that, during those rare times when using the laptop on battery, that I can do normal stuff (browsing, video, excel, etc..) for more than 4-5 hours.

Thank you @Atreide wonder if it is my 6700 then. Are you running Windows 10 pro?

Maybe it is worth installing Windows one more time again.

I just hope that the P750DM gets many updates and upgrades to come. Maybe a desktop grade GPU in the future as well, but the GTX 980M is quite a beast on its own... And thanks @XMG for a response to a question quite long ago. ;)

So.....Intel dilivered another blow. Not only do HM170 chips not have vt-d, but now Xeon chips are not compatible with chipsets other than C230 Series.....WOW.....Wonder if Bios op-codes may a feasible option for those interested.
