My 751DM-G finally arrived, I'm now installing windows 7 on my old drive, just to show that it is definitely possible, before installing win10 on new SSD...
    https://downloadcenter.intel.com/do...l-8-9-100-Series-and-C220-C610-Chipset-Family
This is the XHCI driver for win7 from intel, in case anyone needs it.

Update: not sure what happened, it seems that windows 7 lacks some driver to boot into first Sysprep stage, USB 3.0 driver is not that relevant. Now finding a way to add driver to win7 before first boot. It is also possible that the partition table on my old HDD was damaged before the installation..

Glad to hear it, thanks Pat! Though I'll believe it when I see it ;-)

Oh, sweet. Is your old drive NVME though? AHCI will work fine, it's the new protocol which has questionable support in Win 7 (without a hotfix)

That's the problem, it is the old SATA hdd that comes with my HM, should not have any problem. I will try my new drive later, to see if my old HDD is problematic.

Update: new SSHD have shown the same problem. I have decided that for now windows 10 and benchmarks takes priority.

Hey guys, what thermal compound are you going to use ? I am hesitating between gelid gc-extreme and ic diamond. My reseller proposes to me a kit made of : thermal compound ±8,3 W/mk + thermal bridge 100% copper which guarantee 20% cooler on cpu + gpu. What do you think about that ? This kit cost 30 euros.

What about the intel ac8260 ? Does anyone here already tested it ?

How to know if the computer is G-Sync ready ? The two model are sold on the web. Can we see that on GPU-Z ?

I will command mine the next week :D

Gelid GC Extreme is better but the difference isn't much.. I would just get your own Gelid and use it since it will be much cheaper then 30 euro..

Ok but will it be better to add a thermal bridge ? I think that is a piece like that :

The radiator is already made of copper in P751DM so it's useless, isn't it ?

I'm not sure what they mean by thermal bridge to reduce temperatures (and by 20%?) :/

im guessing theyre just using copper shims with some kinda thermal pads in between to make proper contact with the chip/ihs and heatsink. while in theory a great idea, in real life it doesnt really get u anywhere, since ull input a new bottleneck in the form of that thermal pad! so those copper shims wont do u any good...

GPU-Z does not show anything about G-Sync. However their is a very easy way to spot G-Sync support, that is by the "NVIDIA G-Sync" sticker on the laptop..
Or just go to the Nvidia Control Panel where the G-sync is configured.

If you are performing a fresh install, there is a point where you can add drivers to the install before it begins. I think it is around the time you select the drive to install Win 7 on. Have all drivers for the system from Clevo on a second thumb drive or on a dvd and use an external dvd to load them from. If the drivers are fully within an exe, you may need to extract the exe onto the thumb drive to have access to the needed drivers. Then add the folders to search, Windows will find the driver in each folder. You then continue with the install and it should fix the problem.

You know, clevo only provides win10 drivers for now..
I thought that step is for storage drivers only. I will continue trying cause I really needs an win7 installation to receive the free windows 10 upgrade..
I remember adding drivers extracted from windows 10 with other tool, so maybe windows 10 drivers are not compatitible. I will try official method anyway.

Also, safe mode strucks at \drivers\disk.sys ,not sure what its about.

Just put some good thermal paste and undervolt. Going beyond that to try and reduce temperatures really isn't necessary.

Find out if done of the drivers from the zm can be used (which hardware components are exactly the same). Alternatively, find the drivers from the component manufacturer's website for Windows 7. This may be your best bet... Just a thought. Sorry, haven't compared the component sheets as of writing this...

Edit: are you using uefi? You need csm set for win 7. Also, try setting it all to legacy and install with mbr on the hard drive. Upgrade. Activate. Then clean install.

I just ordered 3.5g of gelid gc-extreme, there is only ram which is missing. I ordered HyperX Impact 8 Go - DDR4 SODIMM 2400 MHz Cas 14 x2. 2666mhz cas 15 is still unavailable in France ...

just slightly different visuals, i.e. matte vs. shiny fan exhaust grills... the 775 model is truly a different machine though, since its re-arranged internals are capable of housing the 980 vs. the others maxing out with the 980M.

Sorry to hear about your installation issues and I hope it works out please keep us posted because I also plan to use windows 7 and I'm surprised there is even an issue to begin with. Hopefully those drivers will be available soon.

Does anyone know if vista or xp will have similar driver issues? Believe it or not I still have a bunch of co workers who still use those. I need to have access to all versions of windows so I hope to hear more about this. Perhaps a separate thread might be needed to cover this topic.

I have pretty much compared the prices of the clevo sager vendors and actually when choosing the i7 6700 or 6700k option Eurocom has the best prices for NA after converting even with the shipping charge and you even get ic diamond free :) nice.

Rjtech website is back up also.

Actually, Eurocom, with the basic acceptable setup, comes to $8 cheaper than pro-star (done on phone using usd on Eurocom's site). So, a wash...

Edit: with privacy laws as they are, I wouldn't allow my hard drive to cross the border without being encrypted and me having the usb unlock key, and even then I probably wouldn't.

Since XP is no longer supported you will most likely not be able to find drivers for much of the newer hardware... NVMe drives for example.

My recommendation is to investigate a virtual machine solution. VMware, Virtual Box and KVM (if you use Linux) would most likely help out.

Don't do it with USD. Price it out in CAD then convert yourself to USD. Eurocom will be cheaper.

When comparing the config with the * i7 6700 * the price is much better with Eurocom more than 8 dollars and no cash payment needed. I dont want to compare prices to be fair to all the vendors but if I wanted the i7 6700, choosing eurocom gives me about $75 dollar difference and I get icd thermal all with a easy credit card payment. Nearly a $100 dollar savings for that i7 cpu set up all together!

Whether the amount is paid to a bank for covering our them (unless the CAD has significantly weakened against the USD and they have not updated their site), it will cost a fee somewhere. Either way, I prefer to keep maintenance in country if possible... If you want to check out PayPal conversion rate for this, that may be more helpful...

The current USD/CAD FX rate is around 1.3, but Eurocom is using 1.14 for their listed USD currency. That's FAR more than any bank or credit card will charge you. They haven't updated their website.

The default (base) P750DM is listed at $2000 CAD, which is around $1500 USD at current FX rates. If you choose the USD currency option, it is listed at $1754 USD. That's WAY more than just a small banking/exchange fee - that's a $250 USD difference. Eurocom is essentially charging you a 16% fee for the currency conversion, while you'll typically pay 1-3% with banks, credit cards, etc.

As I said, call them and haggle. I don't know about you, but $250 is a lot of money to me. Unless their cost of doing business in the US increases the cost of the machine by $250, there is plenty of room to negotiate.

Great Mention on the VM and linux and I also have a boot utilities such as hirens thumb drives for when the going gets though ;).

I forgot to mention that I have finished some benchmarks, 3dmark 2013 fire strike is about 8400 (6700/980m/8g 2133*2).
The 6700 almost never reach 90c even when extending turbo time and power in xtu, and run stress test in aida 64 (fan in auto). I have tried several gaming benchmarks, none of them is able to push 980m over 70c. Maybe I should try prema 980M-G vbios later.
So, if anyone is concerned about that 99c temp with 6700k, try 65w cpu instead.

For me, Intel RST driver limits Turbo Boost, not sure if it happens with K cpus.

You can not use my current mod on the DM production units g-sync GPUs as NVIDA has changed the board ID (not to be mistaken for device ID or board revision) to differentiate them more from the non g-sync models with whom they shared the same board ID in the GPUs used in the ZM units.

But no worries we have already been beta-testing a DM compatible mod version, just need to find the time to finish it up.

    Should be about 24c.
I know something could happen like that so I did not just flash it right away, thanks for your continued support for us!
I don't know what thermal paste my reseller uses, but I would guess it is stock paste.
I have MX-4 and Coollaboratory Metalpad at hand, but I am not repasting it yet.. Planning to use Coollaboratory Liquid Ultra later.

The latest driver from Nvidia (355.98) can not be installed, and for some reason dx12 is not enabled, dxdiag shows 11.3, but with WDDM 2.0.

    With very similar performance amirite?
I'm very undecided between those two. I'll be mainly gaming (70%), with some rendering and 3D modelling (30%).
Price, temperatures and performance (and also battery life) are my deciding factors. Anyone care to weigh in?

It is not like regular z170, where usb devices can not be loaded for installation. Currently the issue is windows 7 refuses to boot upon first install.
The official Install tool will report incompatible driver and refuse to install.

English translation for the notebookcheck 750 DM review went up last night:

    http://www.notebookcheck.net/Schenker-XMG-U506-Clevo-P751DM-Notebook-Review.151283.0.html

Anxiously watching the discussions regarding Win7 install... Please do keep us all in the loop through your various attempts!

Also, I second the earlier question between the 6700-k and non-k version. Does the higher TDP indicate that the cpu is 'allowed' to consume more power as needed, or that it always runs hotter regardless of load? I'm concerned with thermal throttling, someone please tell me that everything is going to be alright and to go have a beer :)

No, I have only tried two drives. First is an old drive from my HM, second is the new HHD, newly formatted for installation.

Thanks for keeping us updated with your experience and I intend to go a similar route with testing the pc with stock paste. Those numbers are actually very good for a desktop quadcore thats air cooled with stock paste so the DM has a great cooling design. May I ask you how much tuning you were allowed in xtu ? How much past stock were u able to do?

I knew I wasn't the only person making this tough decision and been asking around but the problem is when doing web searches the 6700k always comes up even when u search and type 6700 (non k) the engines automatically add the k lol. And also the cpu is newer and not many have it yet alone on the brand new DM which are just as new. the data I gathered so far is this:
    http://cpuboss.com/cpus/Intel-Core-i5-6600K-vs-Intel-6700
    6600k pros:
    -Less expensive to buy
    -unlocked
    -higher base frequency

    6700 pros:
    -Higher stock turbo frequency
-hyper threaded (4 extra virtual cores)
-lower tdp which equates to about 30% less power usage over all and less energy costs.
    -2mb more cache
I have not reached a final verdict yet but I'm considering the i7 6700. I don't really plan on OC the cpu since it is a notebook and just having a desktop cpu i7 with a base of 3.4-4.0ghz is very powerful compared to the skylake mobile chips that have a base clock of 2.5 or 2.6 with a 3.6 or 3.8 turbo as seen in the 6700hq and 6820hk. Also the power consumption is much less, I'm not really concerned about battery life but that should improve it some and also save money on energy bills over time. I don't plan on upgrading the cpu again for quite some time unless somehow major revisions are made.

I'm still open to discussion on this though. I wish I knew how much I could reduce the tdp of the i5 6600k with the undervolting process. If so then the i5 will be the one. As of now the i7 is a much more balanced chip that suits the notebook more.

Hoping a computer savy technician can chime in and tell us if its possible to reduce the i5 6600k from 91w to 65w other wise I'm going to have to fork over the extra for the i7.

I meant format before installation and add as many DRIVERS as it will allow you to. Was on my phone and autocorrect.

Not much since I am using 6700, I can not change the multipler, so I only changed turbo boost power and time.

I have also encountered a strange bug, after running 3dmark, the turbo boost gets disabled until reboot. Not sure how it's related, hope someone can see if they can reproduce the bug.

Get the 6700K... It's slightly more and it will be better binned then the i5 or the 6700... You can also overclock and underclock if needed be... The 6700 can't overclock :p

There is one thing some guys here (i'm just quoting you because you were the last one one) misunderstand:
TDP is not equivalent to heat or power consumption.

It is a limit that indicates when a CPU starts throttling. There is thermal-throttling (which is good) and there is tdp-throttling (which is crap). All Skylake-CPUs have the same power consumption when they are set at the same clockspeed, voltage and amperage. You can set voltage and underclock on every processor, you can overclock and set TDP (the only good TDP is to set it as high as possible) only on K-Processors and you can not directly influence amperage. Except that K-Processors may be a bit better regarding silicon lottery because they may be taken more from the good spots of the wafer.

If you think about these fact than it becomes obvious that low TDP is bad. Additionally it shows why mobile processors are much worse (except unlocked ones) and it shows that stock clock rates are irrelevant if you compare a K-Processor. ;)
You may ask what it is good for: It's a design limit for cooling systems, thats all.
And because the DM can handle 100+W, there is no need for TDP-crippled processors.

And now let me correct your pros and cons:

    6600k pros:
    -Less expensive to buy
    -unlocked multiplier
-unlocked tdp which equates to higher processing power when you really need it.

    6700 pros:
-hyper threaded (4 extra virtual cores)

    Have fun! ;)
    (Get a K, be it i5 or i7)
