My 751DM-G finally arrived, I'm now installing windows 7 on my old drive, just to show that it is definitely possible, before installing win10 on new SSD...
https://downloadcenter.intel.com/do...l-8-9-100-Series-and-C220-C610-Chipset-Family
This is the XHCI driver for win7 from intel, in case anyone needs it.
Update: not sure what happened, it seems that windows 7 lacks some driver to boot into first Sysprep stage, USB 3.0 driver is not that relevant. Now finding a way to add driver to win7 before first boot. It is also possible that the partition table on my old HDD was damaged before the installation..

Update: new SSHD have shown the same problem. I have decided that for now windows 10 and benchmarks takes priority.Last edited: Oct 3, 2015jaybee83 likes this. -
Hey guys, what thermal compound are you going to use ? I am hesitating between gelid gc-extreme and ic diamond. My reseller proposes to me a kit made of : thermal compound ±8,3 W/mk + thermal bridge 100% copper which guarantee 20% cooler on cpu + gpu. What do you think about that ? This kit cost 30 euros.
What about the intel ac8260 ? Does anyone here already tested it ?
How to know if the computer is G-Sync ready ? The two model are sold on the web. Can we see that on GPU-Z ?
I will command mine the next week -

The radiator is already made of copper in P751DM so it's useless, isn't it ? -

I'm not sure what they mean by thermal bridge to reduce temperatures (and by 20%?) :/

im guessing theyre just using copper shims with some kinda thermal pads in between to make proper contact with the chip/ihs and heatsink. while in theory a great idea, in real life it doesnt really get u anywhere, since ull input a new bottleneck in the form of that thermal pad! so those copper shims wont do u any good...

Or just go to the Nvidia Control Panel where the G-sync is configured.Atreide likes this. -

I thought that step is for storage drivers only. I will continue trying cause I really needs an win7 installation to receive the free windows 10 upgrade..
I remember adding drivers extracted from windows 10 with other tool, so maybe windows 10 drivers are not compatitible. I will try official method anyway.
Also, safe mode strucks at \drivers\disk.sys ,not sure what its about. -
Just put some good thermal paste and undervolt. Going beyond that to try and reduce temperatures really isn't necessary.
-
Edit: are you using uefi? You need csm set for win 7. Also, try setting it all to legacy and install with mbr on the hard drive. Upgrade. Activate. Then clean install. -

So what is the difference between the 770 and 771 models ?

I just ordered 3.5g of gelid gc-extreme, there is only ram which is missing. I ordered HyperX Impact 8 Go - DDR4 SODIMM 2400 MHz Cas 14 x2. 2666mhz cas 15 is still unavailable in France ... -

Does anyone know if vista or xp will have similar driver issues? Believe it or not I still have a bunch of co workers who still use those. I need to have access to all versions of windows so I hope to hear more about this. Perhaps a separate thread might be needed to cover this topic.
Rjtech website is back up also. -
Edit: with privacy laws as they are, I wouldn't allow my hard drive to cross the border without being encrypted and me having the usb unlock key, and even then I probably wouldn't. -
My recommendation is to investigate a virtual machine solution. VMware, Virtual Box and KVM (if you use Linux) would most likely help out.ajc9988 likes this. -

The default (base) P750DM is listed at $2000 CAD, which is around $1500 USD at current FX rates. If you choose the USD currency option, it is listed at $1754 USD. That's WAY more than just a small banking/exchange fee - that's a $250 USD difference. Eurocom is essentially charging you a 16% fee for the currency conversion, while you'll typically pay 1-3% with banks, credit cards, etc.
As I said, call them and haggle. I don't know about you, but $250 is a lot of money to me. Unless their cost of doing business in the US increases the cost of the machine by $250, there is plenty of room to negotiate.Last edited: Oct 3, 2015 -

I forgot to mention that I have finished some benchmarks, 3dmark 2013 fire strike is about 8400 (6700/980m/8g 2133*2).
The 6700 almost never reach 90c even when extending turbo time and power in xtu, and run stress test in aida 64 (fan in auto). I have tried several gaming benchmarks, none of them is able to push 980m over 70c. Maybe I should try prema 980M-G vbios later.
So, if anyone is concerned about that 99c temp with 6700k, try 65w cpu instead.
For me, Intel RST driver limits Turbo Boost, not sure if it happens with K cpus.Last edited: Oct 4, 2015 -
Sounds pretty hot for a 65W/nonK CPU. I bet you could win a lot with a better pastejob. Or Skylake behaves very differently to Haswell.

But no worries we have already been beta-testing a DM compatible mod version, just need to find the time to finish it up.Last edited: Oct 4, 2015TomJGX, CaerCadarn, ajc9988 and 3 others like this. -
I have MX-4 and Coollaboratory Metalpad at hand, but I am not repasting it yet.. Planning to use Coollaboratory Liquid Ultra later.
The latest driver from Nvidia (355.98) can not be installed, and for some reason dx12 is not enabled, dxdiag shows 11.3, but with WDDM 2.0.Last edited: Oct 4, 2015Grizzlington likes this. -
In case you change your mind: It's the easiest pastejob i know of. Just four screws at the unit, four at both cpu and gpu and you Are looking at cpu/gpu.
Just saying... -

Does the i5 6600K run much hotter than the regular 6700?
-
Is it possible to install windows 7 from the esata connection without the usb hassle ?
-
6600k - 91w TDP
6700 - 65w TDP -
I'm very undecided between those two. I'll be mainly gaming (70%), with some rendering and 3D modelling (30%).
Price, temperatures and performance (and also battery life) are my deciding factors. Anyone care to weigh in? -
The official Install tool will report incompatible driver and refuse to install. -

English translation for the notebookcheck 750 DM review went up last night:

Anxiously watching the discussions regarding Win7 install... Please do keep us all in the loop through your various attempts!
Also, I second the earlier question between the 6700-k and non-k version. Does the higher TDP indicate that the cpu is 'allowed' to consume more power as needed, or that it always runs hotter regardless of load? I'm concerned with thermal throttling, someone please tell me that everything is going to be alright and to go have a beer -
Oh yes, forgot to add... Does anyone know the size difference between the 230 vs 330 watt power supply?

http://cpuboss.com/cpus/Intel-Core-i5-6600K-vs-Intel-6700
6600k pros:
-Less expensive to buy
-unlocked
-higher base frequency
6700 pros:
-Higher stock turbo frequency
-hyper threaded (4 extra virtual cores)
-lower tdp which equates to about 30% less power usage over all and less energy costs.
-2mb more cache
I have not reached a final verdict yet but I'm considering the i7 6700. I don't really plan on OC the cpu since it is a notebook and just having a desktop cpu i7 with a base of 3.4-4.0ghz is very powerful compared to the skylake mobile chips that have a base clock of 2.5 or 2.6 with a 3.6 or 3.8 turbo as seen in the 6700hq and 6820hk. Also the power consumption is much less, I'm not really concerned about battery life but that should improve it some and also save money on energy bills over time. I don't plan on upgrading the cpu again for quite some time unless somehow major revisions are made.
I'm still open to discussion on this though. I wish I knew how much I could reduce the tdp of the i5 6600k with the undervolting process. If so then the i5 will be the one. As of now the i7 is a much more balanced chip that suits the notebook more.
Hoping a computer savy technician can chime in and tell us if its possible to reduce the i5 6600k from 91w to 65w other wise I'm going to have to fork over the extra for the i7.Last edited: Oct 4, 2015Shark00n likes this. -

I have also encountered a strange bug, after running 3dmark, the turbo boost gets disabled until reboot. Not sure how it's related, hope someone can see if they can reproduce the bug. -
Get the 6700K... It's slightly more and it will be better binned then the i5 or the 6700... You can also overclock and underclock if needed be... The 6700 can't overclock
-
TDP is not equivalent to heat or power consumption.
It is a limit that indicates when a CPU starts throttling. There is thermal-throttling (which is good) and there is tdp-throttling (which is crap). All Skylake-CPUs have the same power consumption when they are set at the same clockspeed, voltage and amperage. You can set voltage and underclock on every processor, you can overclock and set TDP (the only good TDP is to set it as high as possible) only on K-Processors and you can not directly influence amperage. Except that K-Processors may be a bit better regarding silicon lottery because they may be taken more from the good spots of the wafer.
If you think about these fact than it becomes obvious that low TDP is bad. Additionally it shows why mobile processors are much worse (except unlocked ones) and it shows that stock clock rates are irrelevant if you compare a K-Processor.
You may ask what it is good for: It's a design limit for cooling systems, thats all.
And because the DM can handle 100+W, there is no need for TDP-crippled processors.
And now let me correct your pros and cons:
6600k pros:
-Less expensive to buy
-unlocked multiplier
-unlocked tdp which equates to higher processing power when you really need it.
6700 pros:
-hyper threaded (4 extra virtual cores)
Have fun!
