I settled with an Intel 8260 and get great WiFi performance, and have had no problems with the Intel driver suite.

Of course.... I jinxed it. I was torrenting a couple files and at first it said "Connected, No internet" so I disconnected and reconnected. Then after a couple minutes, it went to a red X over the Ethernet icon, and in "manage adapters" it said it was disabled and I can't re enable it except with a reboot... :(
Strangely, it seems to exclusively happen when I'm torrenting. I updated the driver a couple days ago, and it seems that accursed Advance Stream Detect re-enabled itself... I'm hoping it's a problem with that and not anything deeper.

Re-installing drivers seems to have fixed it.

Unfortunately seemed to have bricked my 670rs-g after trying the newest BIOS update. Just black screen with the keyboard lit up. Any tips? lol.

Does it stay like that? In a normal BIOS update, it will turn on the computer but not the display after flashme is finished about 3 times to finish the process.

I flashed the BIOS from my resellers site. There was an error, I let it sit for about 25 minutes and see if it would reset, but nothing so I reset myself and it just powers on with black screen. I'll let it sit overnight but pretty sure it's fubar

I think the problem with my display turning off was driver related, I went back to 369.26, hopefully that fixes it. Does anyone know what the red light in the headphone port does/is? Also, I hear a mechanical "tick" noise (not from the computer) a few seconds I plug headphones in. I assume it's normal, just curious what it is.

The tick is a relay, I believe. The red light should be S/PDIF optical out.

As in a relay that protects against irregular voltage?

Downgrading the driver didn't help :/
Guess I'll just have to live with the display turning off every 5 or so minutes if I don't touch the touchpad/kb. If anyone's got any other ideas lmk.

A relay is an electrically-activated mechanical switch. They are often used to switch on devices, such as the Burr-Brown op amp inside your machine, or in a SPDT configuration as a multiplexer. Not 100% sure what this one is being used for since I don't have the service manual.

Sure, here are some notes I took when overclocking my CPU. The notebook just sits flat on a table, at around 21-22ºC room temp.

With the stock paste (Arctic MX-4):

Temps. when idling are about 30-35ºC. After almost 2h of playing Far Cry 4, ultra settings, max temps are 81ºC on CPU and 81ºC on GPU:

Running both Furmark and Prime95 takes core temps over 95ºC after 13min, throttling the CPU. Trying to overclock it with the MX-4 is useless: taking the cores to 4,0GHz makes them jump to 90-95ºC in a tenth of a second, somehow it feels like the paste is unable to transfer that heat fast enough.

    After repasting with TG Conductonaut:

Temps. when idling are about the same, 30-35ºC. But on load things are quite different. Stressing CPU+FPU+cache+memory+GPU with Aida64 I get core temps between 80-90ºC after 13min. Stressing CPU+FPU+cache+memory gets core temps between 60-70ºC stable after 7min, and stressing only GPU gets core temps between 55-65ºC with GPU temp around 77ºC after 14min. Here’s the graph:

Testing the notebook under real world stress also shows a bit of improvement. After 2h of playing Far Cry 4, ultra settings, max temps are 73ºC on CPU and 79ºC on GPU:

If we compare both temperature logs, we can see the CPU running cooler the whole session:

    MX-4
    [IMG]

    Conductonaut
    [IMG]

10 min XTU CPU stress test 4,1GHz -20mV overvolt:
    →Max temp around 81ºC

10 min XTU CPU stress test 4,2GHz 50mV overvolt:
    →Max temp around 86ºC

Some benchmarks at 4,2GHz 50mW overvolt, GPU stock:

    →Fire Strike: 13634.

    →Time Spy 5298.

Final stable overclock on windows: core and cache 4,0GHz -40mV overvolt. Re-encoding a film to x264 takes about 1,5h. Last hour of the encoding, on XTU:

Here the stats recorded on hwinfo:

And again, playing Far Cry 4 for 1h, ultra settings, overclocked core and cache 4,0GHz -40mV, max temps are 74ºC on CPU and 77ºC on GPU:

@RZR do not run Prime 95 and Furmark.. That is a totally unrealisitc load and you will your laptop.. Don't especially run Furmark, its a GPU burner... If you value your laptop stay away from the two..

If you want a benchmark run Firestrike or Heaven Benchmark!

In light of the numerous driver issues, this might take the cake for making me the most embarrassed about having a Killer card: http://archive.is/wDqsT
    Incredibly unprofessional.

On a lighter note, here is the subpixel arrangement for the 1080p panel if anyone's interested: [IMG]

It doesn't mean anything necessarily, but it is good to see that it's a legit IPS 1080 screen as opposed to some other laptop QHD panels using arrangements that skip a pixel and aren't really QHD. The only gripe I have with this display is the light bleed at the top right corner of mine.

Just a question for peeps who bought their stuff from Sager / Sager retailer, how long did y'alls laptop took to build? Specifically asking for 6820HK/1070 combo ones.

I ordered mine on September 30. The 6820HK/1070 boards were out of stock at the time, so the completed system didn't ship until October 12.

Oh, so about 12 days with a shortage. I guess mine would be quicker than that since they already started building it. Nifty! Thanks for the response! By the way, how did you undervolt your 6820? Through CCC, BIOS, or XTU?

Hello everyone, I've had my new australian branded P670RS-G for a week now. Pretty happy with it!

(I'm not fully educated about all the technical aspects so forgive me for my ignorance)

I've run it though the Prime95 torture test.
    CPU core temps average 78
Maintains 3.1 GHz turbo for about 19 seconds then drop to 2.8Ghz and stabilizes.

Is this normal? Should Turbo boost not last longer? Cheers

    Sorry I should mention I'm using a 6700 HQ

First, I've been told by @Phoenix and others that Prime95 is dangerous and may ruin your CPU. You've been warned.

Next, install ThrottleStop or something else similar and see why it is downclocking to 2.8. It may be because of the heat or it may be because of something else. In day-to-day gaming use I have not seen CPU temps above about 60, so frankly what it does at 78 is entirely irrelevant as long as it functions properly in the 55-65 range.

Check per-core temp. If even one core is thermal throttling the whole chip slows down.

Bad. you need to raise the TDP allowance for the chip; it should hold 3.1GHz 4-core load the whole time. Or maybe one core is overheating, I don't know. I also personally suggest if you can afford it to return the machine and get a 6820HK, get yourself some liquid metal thermal paste and use it on the CPU, and then keep your CPU OC'd to a minimum of about 3.6GHz 4-core load (4GHz would be ideal). This is only if you can afford it though.

    It should be infinite.

Only for haswell, because AVX2 gets abused and Haswell and Broadwell can't handle it easily. Skylake is fine. The most important thing to avoid is Furmark, and uhh... there's another thing similar to it but I don't remember what the name is, but that's for the GPU.

The CPU shouldn't throttle via heat until 95c+, so 78c or 90c doesn't matter. The point is to find the reason, but I explained that in more detail above.

Yes. Go to dGPU-only mode, set the screen lid close action on AC to "do nothing" and then attach extra screens and close the lid and enjoy!

Wot? Want to elaborate more on which screens do this and how you've proven it, or link to some proof?

I'll add to this with Evolve Stage 2 (free on steam as far as I know, though it won't be updated anymore) with unlocked FPS (or at least limited to 120 via RTSS or NVPI).

Or one of the many other options games wise, people sometimes do get a little too caught up in the numbers and miss the sweet gaming potential sitting in front of them (Says me watch movies on mine the last couple of nights).

Ah. I simply picked evolve because of how harsh it is on systems, not really because I consider it an amazing game (it once was but it's now dead as far as the devs are concerned and I don't know the situation it was left in). But yeah, sometimes just gaming is the thing.

Another misconception people seem to have is when you buy a powerful GPU they expect you must play the most demanding games. Not me. I just play what's fun. The point of having the power is that whatever I get and play with I should be fully capable of enjoying it to its maximum potential =D.

Much appreciated D2 Ultima. It's too late to get the 6820HK unfortunately. Damn my 'tech' friends that talked me out of it, haha. I've taken it into the service centre and they are having a look at it.

Why is it too late? Metabox should have a return period (unless you bought from Venom Computing... I feel sorry for you if you did) that you can err... "use"... to send it back and get an upgraded system.

And your tech friends are idiots if they think a 6700HQ is more than fine for a 1070, I'm not sorry to break it to you. Come here and ask first =D. (Try asking in the Clevo Overclocker's lounge too... after you get past the BGA-hate they'll likely inevitably give you, they'll probably give you some good advice).

There won't be any temperature problems with it shut?

Eh... the keyboard does get somewhat warm I believe under the heavier loads, but all things considered it should be mostly ok. If you really feel there is a problem, feel free to use something like an eraser or two at the edge of the laptop to keep the lid ever so slightly propped up. The lid "close" function happens before the lid hits the keyboard flush, so you could at least leave some room for the heat to dissipate in that manner.

    Sorry another set of questions.

    1. My P670RS never seems to engage max fans on the automatic mode, even when cpu temperature is at 92c (while performing a 96 second turbo boost torture test). Do I have to install prema bios to make this happen? I'm really not confident enough to flash a bios.

    2. Regarding my turbo boost woes with prime95. It seems to only throttle on the torture test, going from 3.1Ghz to 2.8Ghz. I used Intel ETU and it only gives the option to extend turbo boost to 96seconds.
Strangely, while playing overwatch, all 4 cores seem to maintain a relatively stable 3.1ghz indefinitely, with only each core dropping for a second or two at a time separately and sporadically. I dont understand why it maintains that clock speed in games but not on a cpu stress test?

3.When I do extend turbo to 96 seconds and run prime95 on automatic fans, the cpu core temperatures reach 89c-92c and maintain 3.1Ghz. On max fans the temps reach 78c. Does this indicate that Metabox did not actually paste my chip with the advertised micronised diamond thermal compound? Or is this just an issue of fan speed?

    4. Is anyone else having trouble with windows volume resetting to max volume after every reboot?

    5. Is anyone else having trouble running G-sync WITHOUT fast sync? { EDIT: this seems to be a driver issue. I rolled back to nvidia 368.something and its fixed my league of legends low fps} I can run it on borderless windowed mode ok in overwatch, but when I set the game to fullscreen it reduces framerates to 35fps. League of legends seems to randomly fluctuate between 230fps, and 18fps. I'm using nvidia driver version 375.70. Ill try downgrading to the clevo driver page one and see if it fixes it.

I haven't had any problems with sound volume.

Borderless windowed forces triple buffering and vsync if I recall correctly so gsync may not be operating how you want it. If you are locked at 35fps make sure you have discrete mode, performance mode in windows, performance in nvidia 3d settings and performance is geforce experience.

It's issue related to specific version of realtec audio driver. Right now I have audio driver installed via windows update and volume resseting issue is gone.

Thanks wkamil I'll try that. Also my framerate issue with League of legends was fixed by rolling back to a previous nvidia driver.

That's normal behaviour for a prime run on auto fans.
