I will recommend the 1525... Not heard a single complaint about it here.. 7260/7265 are known to be flaky and some people have good ones and some have absolutely ones...

Does anyone know if the FHD 1080p IPS display in the MYTHLOGIC Dia 1614 is really a 72% color gamut display? It says it is on the spec sheet at the following link ( https://www.mythlogic.com/2013_Models/dia1614.php) but I thought I saw some conflicting statements on this (although I cannot seem to find those posts in my search).

then i guess its just the fan profile thats programmed into the EC (embedded controller). maybe updating to a newer bios / ec firmware revision will help.

I noticed it would spin-up the GPU fans on boot and then settle down and have heard the same little spin-ups from time to time during normal operation. I set a custom fan speed setting in hotkeys and now I never hear them do it after first boot.

Here is what I have set:

    Custom fanspeed settings.jpg

I wish they would allow you to set speeds above 80% but I am not really playing any intensive games atm so no biggie.

It does seem like they have some fan profiles that need some work when it's on automatic.. another EC update down the road I bet!

I've been running through the threads. I didn't see anything on the 8650 that came out a little bit ago. Any thoughts? I dont necessarily need the 970m and would love to save some money. I'm mainly still looking at the 8651 mainly because there is no IPS screen option on the 8650 and there was not a big price difference for a huge jump in performance from the 965m. However now with the $50 off for the 8650 I'm kind of stuck.

    Thanks in advance.

Can someone measure the distance between the feet on the bottom of the chassis for the np8651? I'm expecting mine in a couple of weeks, and was wondering if it would fit on a small laptop stand I have here. The stand is meant for 15" laptops, and measures about 31cm (12.2 inches) by 33cm (13 inches). Much thanks!

Sadly 1525 doesn't have linux drivers yet... May cause an issue if any linux distro is installed (including SteamOS)

    Hey Guys!

So, I've ran into some seriously financial difficulties recently and am going to have to either return or sell my laptop... which is honestly such a shame because I love it haha. I got it from Xoticpc in December and upgraded the components myself. I think it was around $1300 barebones (and rush shipping). It's the NP8651 (with 970m). I had a IC thermal repaste done to it in the factory. When I got it, I immediately upgraded the screen to the AU OPTRONICS B156HAN01.2, which is IPS and honestly SOOOO much better than the default TN panel. Also, I put in 2x 512 m.2 cucial SSDs in RAID 0 config, in addition to a 2TB mechanical storage drive (5400RPM). I've also put 24Gigs of RAM in to make the total 32GB.

So... I was thinking... since some of you seem to want this laptop but are weary of opening it up and installing components yourself (specifically the screen from what I have seen), that instead of returning it immediately I thought I'd just see if anyone wanted to buy my laptop instead. It has NO logo, and is essentially in mint condition. There are a few very very small random nicks that you can only see in sunlight and at certain angles, one of which actually came from the Sager factory. But it was so small I didn't care, and it's never going to stay perfect forever so.... It honestly looks brand new to 99.9% of us.

All of the components I have put in were around another $1000 dollars (those SSDs were expensive, plus the RAM, IPS display, etc...), but since this IS a very very lightly USED laptop, it is still USED, and I will be willing to make a deal for anyone who doesn't want to trouble of doing all this themselves. Similarly, it would be a lot easier for me than to return all the components individually (reinstall the old screen, etc...). If you wan't I'll even keep Windows 7 ultimate installed and unlocked for you. Or I can wipe the drives, up to you. Also, if you don't want all that ram or all the SSDs I can remove those too and we can adjust the price accordingly. I would really recommend the IPS panel though. I have all of the original CDs, manuals, cases, factory boxes, packings, and everything so it will basically be like getting a new laptop.

Anyhow, I don't meet to solicit myself or waste time. I just thought, since I still have a little bit of time left before the return period is over for me, I would let people know that I am willing to sell it to someone who has been on the fence about certain aspects and wants a convenient solution and nice laptop. Similarly, we'll get the warranty and everything all squared away with Xoticpc, and so just message me or something and we can iron out some details and talk on the phone.

    Cheers!

look for the newest EC (embedded controller) firmware and BIOS on prema's site, it's probably just a bad fan profile on the EC. or even better just flash Prema's unlocked BIOS, I've had no problems at all with that and you get a ton of extra features.

Don't forget about the Marketplace NBR Marketplace

Also the warranty stays with the computers serial number, you don't have to do anything special when selling it.

My CPU temps hit a high of 96C during 15 minutes of playing Dragon Age Inquisition. Max GPU was 72C.

Time for a repaste me thinks.

Prema bios, and use xtu or throttlestop to lift the power and current limit.

A re-paste should help, a notebook cooler would do wonders. I currently prop mine up an inch in the rear and that has also helped. Are you running any kind of undervolt with XTU? I'm currently at a -57mv undervolt and that has also helped overall. After 3+ hours of BF4 on High settings online in 64 vs 64 maps my max CPU is at 88c.

This laptop is not thermally optimized at stock configuration, I would repaste regardless of what is on there currently to make sure it's done right. Possibly update BIOS and EC either Clevo, Sager, or PremaMod.

Undervolting is also an excellent option most users seem to be stable around -50mv, I'm testing slowly towards -60mv to find my CPU's threshold.

I also mainly sit at a desk for gaming when at home with the laptop so a notebook cooler almost seems like a no-brainer.

Open to negotiation, but I'll say the same thing I told edwards which was that I'd probably need to keep the 2TB HD in there since I wouldn't be able to return that (it came from the sager factory)... but that's only like 50 bucks so imo worth the 2TB for media storage. I can take out 24gigs of ram and the 2 512 SSDs which would leave it at around 1350. So.... 1350 plus the IPS display (which is a nicer one in terms of contrast and color gamut than the LG IPS one and definitely a lot better than the stock TN panel), GPU+CPU thermal pastes, extra 1TB space, and I could give you a clean OS (windows 7 ultimate) if you want, which would prolly be around 1450. And honestly, this laptop is in really stellar condition, and it hardly qualifies as used haha, but whatever, that's just business I guess, so I guess with the used factor I was thinking around 1350 with me paying and insuring shipping to you.

Re-pasted and using a notebook cooler. Ran XTU stress test and experienced throttling around 96C.

Guess next step is BIOS flash.

Did you inspect the previous paste job? How did it look, did it get good coverage? Sometimes the heatsink can be faulty.

After updating your BIOS and EC find the latest Hotkey App and install that as well.

Try undervolting with XTU, start at -40mv.

If your still experiencing overheating then maybe it's time to bust out that warranty.

Haven't had a chance to update the BIOS/EC yet, but tried XTU with a -40mv undervolt - worked like a charm. CPU temps stayed below 90C.

The factory paste job was just the basic thermal pad that comes installed on the heatsinks by default I think - at least that's what it looked like.

Is it normal for this laptop to clock down to 1.6ghz (according to XTU) when running on battery? It seems that when running on battery, only a balanced battery profile is allowed.

Okay not really sure if I want to make the leap on the laptop, but depending on the prices of the ram and ssds I might aant to get those. What are the models of each, and around what range were you expecting for each one?

No I'm on the stock BIOS. Are you saying I need to flash to a newer revision? The frequency doesn't move past 1.6ghz even when running a stress test.

Well with the Ram and SSDs I would be able to return them for full price. And they are brand new so I'm gunna just ask for those prices. The SSDs were Crucial M550s 512GB x2 which amounted to 570 dollars. The extra ram was 67 dollars per stick for a total of 3 = 200 dollars.

So I just got my 8651 with the Sharp 4k, is it normal that the screen looks... kinda grainy? It's a glossy screen so I thought there shouldn't be a lot of it, but this colorful grain is somewhat vivid...

My P650SG arrived this afternoon! It did in fact come with an additional 4 screws for my 1Tb 840 Evo however in my haste/excitement I only noticed that after I already installed the new drive haha! Ah well!

After upgrading from an 850m I'm blown away by the performance increase! The keyboard and touchpad are much better than I expected. I have to also tip my hat to the design; I was honestly expecting it to be a lot thicker than it actually was (even though it is a tad bit heavier than I expected). The brushed aluminum also looks fantastic!

My only con so far is that it seems like setting custom fan profiles with the hotkeys app for the cpu doesn't seem to work.. My cpu heated up to ~90 degrees without the fan kicking in (even though it was set to kick in once 50 degrees was reached...) however auto and maximum mode worked fine (cpu tops out at ~70).

All in all, I'm loving it! Thank god I have highspeed internet otherwise these games would take AGES to download haha! Thanks for providing such a fantastic forum and reviews etc. I would never have even noticed this laptop otherwise :)

First, when is it throttling? Next, run XTU and do some stress tests via Prime95 or the XTU cpu stress test with the graphs showing Thermal, Current, and Power Throttling and tell us where you are seeing the issue.

Try updating the Hotkey application. I think there's a new one aside from the ones provided in disc. I ran BF4 on ultra earlier only to cap out at 82C. Very tempted to keep it under 80 with undervolting as that is the only thing I havent done. CLU has been great so far.

You cannot disable the integrated video as the system runs on Nvidia Optimus. All the data fed between GPU to display goes through the iGPU first.

General usage, haven't tried to play games yet, had to run off to work after spending too much time excitedly unpacking it, putting in an M.2 SSD and more RAM, installing Windows and drivers and playing around for a bit. It is one gorgeous laptop after all with a super sharp (no pun intended) and colourful, outside of odd grain, screen. Could be just some initial hiccups I suppose.

P.s. running at 1920x1080 is as blurry as I was afraid of so I'll probably keep using my F13 for whatever needs that resolution, outside of gaming of course. It's a shame you can't use the compatibility mode Windows uses for some apps for the entire system when necessary, it has that awesome 2x zoom without anti-aliasing which looks pretty great.

Well I stand corrected.. I seem to be getting fps stutter in high end games ala Crysis 3 and Metro Last light. Runs mostly silky smooth at ~45-60fps and then every 10-15 seconds it just drops to 10fps... Ah well... will have to trouble shoot tomorrow afternoon! Once I fix this minor embuggerance I'll go back to loving this laptop lol.

What kind of custom profile have people been using in Hotkey? Just curious to see what your settings are.
