My Sharp 4K has almost no bleed. With the matte film, nonexistent. I cant say about Samsung screen as I dont have that money to throw around.

So I just got my P650SG - all seems okay so far except for one thing - the bluetooth. I've tried every driver and setting for the Killer n1525 but there is absolutely no option for bluetooth - it's like it's not even there. It'd usually be under Devices but no trace of bluetooth at all. WiFi is working fine.

I opened it up and saw that the gray cable was above the black below - I switched them back and forth but same result in both cases - Wifi working flawlessly but no sign of the bluetooth at all.

Suggestions? Hope the problem isn't in the main board!

EDIT: Man, this is my first Clevo and it's showing badly. I'm having massive problems with Thermal throttling while gaming (I've already installed the latest Hotkey) - when setting the fans to the max, the CPU starts throttling at around 60C? Surely something isn't right. Max temps reached were only 63C yet it was throttling like mad. Halp

I cant answer for the bluetooth issue as I dont have any bluetooth devices to test with. For the throttling however... I have NEVER seen mine hit the throttle limit. Can you try flashing a newer BIOS? Preferrably Prema BIOS mod.

Flashing a newer BIOS would be a last resort - but why on earth is the CPU hitting its thermal limit at just 55 to 60C? Strange.

Is it thermal or power related? What did XTU say for throttle %?

    Thermal - the throttle % was 70%.

Here's another run - Max CPU Temp 66C and throttling 70%. GPU seems to be throttling too at around 60C. Next steps?

Have you tried enabling all the core temperature values to see if one of them is different to the others?

What does the graph look like if you run the XTU stress test?

Just did a 2 minute stress test and there was no throttling of any kind, max temp went up to 74C. doing a 5 minute now and will post the graph.

EDIT: Here it is. No throttling at all at 100% and 77C - but it throttles at 60C when gaming. I have no idea what this means.

Recorded using phone. Re-applied a new matte film (100% install). Should be able to take a recording in darker place when I get home in 8 hours.

So, this is my screen without bezel: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/4954206/DSCF1149.JPG

Annnd... is definitely a defective panel. The yellow bleed in the top right for me is unbearable. On dark scenes all colors are turned towards orange/yellow.

@omer.sak: Cakefish had your exact same problem with Bluetooth and the Killer card; if I recall right, he solved only by getting a replacement card from his reseller. Search in the previous pages and you'll find everything... or just drop him a PM (no guarantee he'll answer, though ;) )

XTU stress tests for CPU, memory and GPU all perfect. Just ran the 30 second Hitman Absolution benchmark and the CPU throttled 63% and the GPU too. Now downgrading nvidia drivers to 344.11. At a loss, really

Done, same CPU Thermal throttling result at 60C and the GPU clocks dropped to and remained at 599 MHz when I switched to Balanced. Frustrating, to say the least!

I flashed with Prema BIOs/vBIOs on day one. Had zero throttling issues until I overclocked beyond PSU limit.

I really want to as well, but I'm scared about voiding my warranty in case of hardware issues.

It's weird because the CPU hit 77C during a stress test and didn't throttle, yet it throttles at 60C in any game. Do you think I should re-do Windows and try again?

I dont think its a Windows issue. I dont think flashing would do any damage. You can still revert to stock BIOS for both. Prema supplies stock BIOS, but stock vBIOs you must obtain yourself via GPUZ.

I had the exact same issue omer.sak (when I flashed Prema's initial BIOS/EC combo, which he has since updated) - flashing to the latest BIOS and EC versions solved it for me.

Cakefish, please rescue me. Your laptop was throttling at 60C too? What's the exact BIOS/EC you're running which solved this problem.

I did but to no avail. As Lone Syndal said, it's hopefully a BIOS issue. About to take the plunge.

I am sure at this point MOST retailers know about PremaMods. It should be safe to do as long as you dont suddenly crash or lose power on battery during setup (which comes to question why install BIOS on battery? AC only).

You have the latest BIOS 1.03.05 + EC 1.03.04 on XMG website (jaybee posted the link on the front page) this is NOT OPTIONAL, they quickly updated their bios because of SERIOUS bugs, that compromised the end user's experience !

STOP thinking bios update are optional...a bios/EC is behind nearly every task your computer does from cooling, to CPU management, to backlight management !

UPDATE your bios before posting your bug report, there's already a solution.

Update the HOTKEY software too. (3.09.21 clevo website ).

Annoying throttles unexplained throttles (=/= thermal throttling)
    Stutters
    Freeze
    HOTKEY software bugs

    =
bios 1.03.03 need to be updated to .05 or premabios (.04 modded ).

Updating your bios in 2015 isn't like putting a bomb in your laptop. Use RUFUS, deactivate UEFI boot and update your bios/EC - MESET - autorestart -> flashme.bat. Everything is included in the bios file to secure this process (block check, version check, etc.).

you can always install the stock bios OVER prema bios in case you're afraid of warranty voids, " ni vu ni connu"

Thanks guys, Lone Syndal, Cakefish and Wickette in particular. I admit I was in a bit of a panic - but then again, I'm a n00b and this is my first Clevo and it was quite a baptism of fire to get it going.

I've upgraded the BIOS/vBIOS to Premamod and the CPU "Thermal Throttling" has been eliminated - AND my bluetooth started working, too - great stuff, all thanks to you guys! however, there are still stutters in-game and that may because I'm still having instances where the GPU spikes down to 400MHz for a second or two. Is this normal, or should I look into it?

Did you do the vBIOs flash as well? When you download the Premamod files, there should be a separate folder with it.

    To install:
    1) Disable the graphics unit in Device Manager
    2) Run Update file in vBIOs folder. Hit "y" for both entries.
    3) Reboot laptop after flashing
    4) Re-enable the graphics unit
    5) Overclock the GPU by +140 (if and only if it still stutters) or more to get rid of stutter as P-state issue is widely known

    Hello everyone.

I am finally ready to order the np8651 or np8650. Just have a couple of questions.

Is is worth spending the extra 60$ to upgrade from the gtx965m to gtx970m? Secondly, I am planning to get the free windows from dreamsparkstudent for my laptop. However, I was confused how I would install it. Since the np8651 doesnt have a dvd drive, will I be able to save the os on a usb and install it from there? I have never had a laptop without an os before so would appreciate some help.

    Thanks

If doing non-UEFI install, you can use a USB bootable.

If doing UEFI install, use a USB DVD/CD ROM drive.

I do not know about the performance of GTX 965M, but can vouch for the 980M. Others with the 8651 can answer the 970M question.

Definitely get the 970m over the 965m. The 965m is just a rebadge. I just USB installed a Windows 7 Pro iso that I got from DreamSpark, but I did integrate the USB 3.0 drivers to the install just in case.

Interesting, I thought I flashed it by following the onscreen instructions (uninstalled nvidia drivers and flashed). Nothing really happened and I restarted and the games work fine but when I ran the premature vBIOS flash file again it said it couldn't find an nvidia card.

@omer.sak If nvflash doesn't see your NVIDIA card, set in NVIDIA control panel for GPU-Z to run using the NVIDIA card instead of Integrated. Run GPU-Z before running nvflash to power up the NVIDIA card and keep GPU-Z running while flashing. I ran nvflash from an administrator command prompt in Windows to flash it using the command from update.bat from Prema's files. After nvflash is finished and you close GPU-Z, your screen may freeze. Just shut down and power on as normal and everything will be fine.

Yes the $60 is definetly worth it.. The 965M only has 50-75% of the performance of the 970M.. Really for $60, it's stupid not to get it.. As for OS install, you get to download the ISO and then there is a tool to make a bootable usb stick/OS disk..

Agreed about getting the 970M, one of the best bang for your buck GPU's right now.

You may have problems using a USB port if you are going for Windows 7 as USB 3.0 drivers are needed. If you use Windows 8/8.1 then USB 3.0 drivers are native and USB will be fine.

Thanks for the tips, guys. The first time i ran update.exe, nvflash did recognize the card. Now its giving me "unconfigured display adapter found device not accessible". Think I may have a bad flash

The GPU does work fine in games and everything else though, so I don't know. I did make a backup of the original BIOS from GPUZ.

You may have to do it via DOS mode to return to original as it may be considered "older" and use the -4 -5 -6 command.

Thanks. Will go for the 970m. I am a newbie when it comes to installing the os on a laptop without one. I am assuming I can simply download the ISO on a USB and stick it into the laptop to install windows. Or is it more complicated then that?

You'll need to use Windows CD/USB Tool to make the iso bootable on the USB drive. Some users are reporting that the install goes fine without USB 3 drivers, but I integrated them into my Windows install using rt7lite just to be sure.

Hey guys, i'll probably buy this week a P650SE (basic config), and i've been reading this whole thread and was wondering what are the performance gains with the prema vbios on the GTX 970M? Is it worth it? Will i have heating issues?

The laptop will be mostly for gaming so i want to take the most advantage from the graphic card as i can.

Sorry for these basic questions but i'm a noob.

LoneSyndal, are those benchmarks with just the stock 180w adapter? If I am tracking the boards correctly, I think you were still waiting on the 230w adapter. If so, very impressive and I can't wait to see what your benchmarks will be with the 230w adapter

One of the things holding me back on this machine was the 180w vs 230w adapter but perhaps I should bite the bullet and pick up a dell adapter and converter as well.

Yeah, its with the stock 180W adapter. I will be receiving the dell adapter by Friday or Saturday with the converter before doing further testing.

Very impressive. I think I will order the converter pronto then (forgot that my AW 17 has the PA-9E adapter).
