    GPU Utilization for Bossbrew:

EDIT: What I think is going on in many people's situation with the GTX 900 series is that the card's power saving features may be a detriment to performance. If we can somehow disable those features in a more permanent fashion, they should in theory run harder. I remember @Mr. Fox having a discussion on modified drivers that do remove that issue. Wonder if it will work here. I'll try it again when I'm off work today.

Thank you @HTWingNut and @Splintah for the suggestions. problem is that accidents happen inspite of being extra careful. I was going through the Sager warranty document from Sager Custom Laptops and it says the below:

I'm confused here because the GPU, CPU and the Motherboard isn't manufactured by Sager, does it mean that they won't be covered by the warranty in case something happens to either of the component within the warranty period?

My other question is regarding the SquareTrade warranty, say if i opt for that, and something happens to the laptop, do i have to send it to them for the repair? or will they reimburse the amount if i send it to Sager for the repair? I would prefer if i could send it to sager for the repair. In that case insurance is a better option right? life safeware.

I hope i was able to explain my dilema. I've googled a lot, and it has confused me all the more!

    Regards,
    FM

Hey again guys, today when i tried to run evga precision it just crashed, and then i tried with MSI afterburner, but i cant seem to downclock my graphic card ? its an 980m that i downclocked with 150mhz yesterday.(with EVGA precision)

When i put -150mhz in afterburner and then press apply, the bar will just go to the middle and reset, it wont save it to the graphic card. Anyone got a solution ? tried to google it but couldnt find anything...

Isn't the lowest setting already at 135 MHz? -150 MHz would be going beyond zip.

ehm, i mean like -150 from original clock or something around that. It was the lowest setting on the EVGA program. But now i cant get it started and MSI afterburner won't work.

135 MHz is the lowest possible clockspeed when the dGPU is activated. You cant go negative. If you modified it at other power states, then that's plausible, but I believe MSI and EVGA programs only start with the lowest state first.

Try using NVidia Inspector to observe the limits per each P state as they do vary.

The MHZ on the core clock after i downclocked yesterday was at 986.8MHZ @ LOAD(playing game), now when i cant get it downclocked it is at 1126MHZ @ LOAD(playing game).

So its very much possible, but maybe you misunderstood me ?

read the quote u posted urself more carefully concerning the sager warranty, it says: applies to hardware products manufactured BY OR FOR sager

thus, some components werent manufactured BY, but FOR sager and thus are covered by the warranty :)

i was wondering about that myself. downclocking the dGPU only makes sense in a machine without switchable graphics. in this case theres no real advantage doing that, since the dGPU is either completely switched off or downclocked anyways when on battery...

shouldnt be battery life. dGPU is OFF when not in use (monitoring software will turn it on however)

Need to downclock because the card keeps getting Video_tdr_error ... nvlddmkm.sys when its on stock clock.

I switched drivers to 344.75 and now EVGA started like yesterday and i put it on -135 Offset gpu clock, now all games are working fine.

Couldnt figure out the thing with the pstates that you mentioned...

EDIT: I think this whole issue has something to do with the stuttering people are getting with the 900 series, because always before i get Video_tdr_error ... nvlddmkm.sys the game starts stuttering and the fps goes down.

Try Mr. Fox's modified driver. Alternatively look into disabling gameboost on battery from Geforce Experience.

jaybee, isn't it time to update the OP once again because of the 2GB GTX 965M coming to P65x SA models? It's been a month or so since we knew about it, I'm seeing XoticPC and one of my local Clevo reselllers offering it.

Basically all the parts that are in the computer as ordered will be covered under the parts/labor warranty. They will not cover any parts you install yourself.

    AAAAAARRRRRRGGGGGGGHHHHHH!!!

Sorry, I just had to let that out.

I ordered the Mythlogic Dia 1614 (Clevo P65xSG) back on December 5th. I knew it was going to be a bit of a wait because I chose the 980 and the Sharp 4k screen.

    But.... damn.....

Today I saw that my credit card was charged late last week and I got excited. Surely that must mean it's shipping soon, right? Hell no! All that means is that Mythlogic has ordered the parts for my laptop from Clevo.

I still have 12-15 BUSINESS days until my laptop supposedly ships. Hello February!

So frustrated right now. I've been waiting for a new laptop since May, when my MBP was stolen, and waiting for a 980m since they were announced in October!

I dont know if its just me but my p650se that came with a 5400rpm 1tb HD always makes the ticking/clicking (subtle) sound whenever an application loads.. is it just my HD or is this normal? I ordered a m.2 512gb coming in tomorrow but just wanted to know because its quite annoying in my quiet office listenning to my HD

@adampk17: i know how u feel buddy, lets wait together! 33 more days and ill finally receive batman  been without a laptop of my own since september, when my good ol´ HM crapped out on me...

Can anyone with the Sager NP8652 comment on the portability of the laptop? I know it's advertised as thin and light, but is it comfortable/reasonably light to carry to and from class? How about for business trips? I'm strongly considering upgrading to a larger-screen laptop with some powerful hardware behind it (as my current 13.3" is a bit too small for my taste), but I also don't want to be burdened with a giant brick.

    Thanks!

Hard drives do make noise as there are moving parts inside. I put one inside my P35X v3 and couldn't work out why the laptop's fans wouldn't shut up when the system was idling. Then I realised it was actually the HDD causing the whole darn laptop to vibrate. After promptly removing the offending drive, I swore to myself that that would be the last time I ever attempt to use an internal HDD ever again.

It's really portable. It fits in my Belkin 15.4 slim backpack. I either carry the laptop + powerbrick or a Surface pro 3 + Macbook air and both combinations are as portable. You even have space for two or three books, portable chargers etc

I would stick to a 14" laptop. Although this piece is thin and light, its still wide and long (the foot print is larger than my lenovo y510p, albiet thinner)....resulting in accidental banging against objects when you are carrying it

I have to agree, the HDD is subtle, but just loud enough where I can hear it ticking away as i'm typing this. anyway I hope the SSD works out for me!

Glad to hear it is light (even if the footprint is kind of big, which isn't as big of a concern for me); I might pull the trigger, especially since the 980m is such a beast of a performer....

Some HDDs are noisier than others, you might have got unlucky. Or you could contact support and see if it's something worth looking at, if it's still under warranty.

I'm not a fan of any equalizer settings to be honest, I just keep it set to direct. It sounds the most accurate for recordings with my IEM's and Cans.

I couldn't stand the software. It was a resource hog, delayed start-up, and introduced too much noise on my cIEMs. I just use the windows provided realtek driver when I absolutely have to use the onboard sound, otherwise I stick to my USB DAC.

For me it was totally worth it. I'm currently using a Fiio E17, and it docks in a Fiio E9 when I'm home. I have very sensitive westone cIEMs and this is the best portable DAC I've found that provides zero hiss through my iems (at 0 gain), and still sounds very, very good. The E9 is strong enough to power my DT990 (600ohm) when I'm home and want something 'fun' to listen to ;) The extra features of the E17 are also very neat for a portable DAC (balance, bass boost, treble/bass,etc). If you have more questions, feel free to PM me.

Another vouch for the Fiio E17, its a solid portable amp. When I'm at home I usually use the Objective2 + ODAC or Burson HA-160D if I'm gaming at my desk. Can't go wrong with any Fiio products if you are looking for a amp/DAC that wont destroy your wallet. The E17 powers my Westone W4R's, Earsonics SM64, and Denon D7000 very well.

Regarding the stuttering I am experiencing, underclocking my GTX 980M by 100mhz has decreased the frequency of the stuttering. It still happens but it is a lot less frequent then at stock frequencies. This isn't a perfect solution because I purchased the P650SG for the extra GPU power and I hate having to debuff my own graphics card just so games aren't a stuttering mess. If NVIDIA doesn't fix this issue soon via drivers I will most likely be contacting my seller for an exchange to see if that fixes the issue.

    @jaybee: Add this to OP.

Here's images of the matte screen film I used. Not my best application. I will get to work on squeezing out the small bubbles about (two are pieces of dust which do irritate me). Remember to do the following steps:

    1) Turn on hot water in shower room.
    2) Seal room tight and wait until room is filled with steam.
    3) Perform installation steps as stated with your instructions. I do recommend the use of scotch tape to hold the piece in place as a hinge.
    4) Enjoy

    Off:
    Mid brightness
    [IMG]
    Max brightness (no ac adapter)

Personally, after doing the installation, I think the larger one SHOULD be better as you can go under the bezel.

    Edit: Fixed the bubbles.

    Hello Bossbrew,

we are very interested in getting your issues resolved. when we saw your initial post of the issue, we have been trying to duplicate it here. but are not having much luck at it.

if you would please send [email protected] a email with your forum ID "Bossbrew" with your system information (Invoice or Serial number), your best contact phone number, and the best time to contact you.

so that we could build a system that is the exact hardware spec of your order, and to go over your software configurations and to see if you can give us any details we may have overlooked while trying to duplicate the issue and to troubleshoot further.

    Thanks,

Can only hope your new machine works better. Can exchange for the P750ZM that should run a lot stronger while being slightly bigger and heavier.

Man, these 980m stutter/BSOD issues are scaring me as I await my order. Hope it gets resolved for everyone, must be terrible.

If I have to under-clock my GPU then I'm returning it straight away and getting a 970m machine.

The stuttering varies per user. I have NOT had any issues yet, especially after installing Fox's modded drivers.

I also have modded vBIOS and BIOS as well...

Most stutter issues are driver related.
