Ok, I have adaptive brightness disabled in the windows settings, for all my profiles. But, it doesn't matter which profile I choose, on battery the adaptive brightness is always active, annoying me. I'll try once plugged in later today, but I'm sure days ago it wasn't working, as it was supposed to do. Haven't found any options in the Intel graphics, clevo control center or bios settings, unless I'm missing something.

I ordered on the 4th of December but keep in mind the there was a delay because I think Clevo/Sager was running low on screens(or something like that) so they didn't ship it from Clevo/Sager till the 19th (after that it has to go to Nebraska to Xotic) then it was a god dang Holiday fest.
I had rush build/services and 2 day shipping.
All in all it was just unlucky timing for me, yours should get to you much faster.

Congrats its almost there! If you have a AC capable router then might as well get the Killer 1525, but if you dont then it wont help out.

It looks like 1 and 2 are both TN options, which are generally mediocre at best. If you're already spending this much on a laptop, you might as well spend the extra for a better screen. Option 3 sounds like an IPS screen, probably an LG or AOU (or is it AUO, can never remember), and I'm guessing it's about $45. Those are both pretty nice 1080p panels, not the best out there, but perfectly respectable. If you want to stick with a 1080p screen, go with Option 3.

Number 4 is a 3K panel, likely the Panasonic option, which is supposed to be very nice. I've heard the scaling to 1080p is very good, but it will never be *perfect* simply because of the number of pixels (they don't quite line up with a 1080p image). But the screen itself is supposed to be very nice.

Options 5 and 6 are both 4K panels. Number 5 is the Samsung panel, which HTWingNut had on his P650SG review model. It was apparently a very nice screen, with none of the issues found with the 4K Samsung panels used in Lenovo Y50s and some other laptops. Number 6 is obviously the 4K Sharp panel, which is even better than the Samsung panel, but carries rather hefty price tag. I have the Sharp panel on my P650SE, I can say from firsthand experience that it is beautiful. It is hands-down the best laptop screen I have seen. Scaling isn't much of an issue in Windows 8.1 (although I've heard that Windows 7 apparently doesn't play very nice with 4K) and scaling to 1080p for games and such is very, very good, to the point where you can't tell the difference between this and a real 1080p display. The advantage of 4K over 3K is that it is exactly twice as many pixels wide and tall as 1080, so scaling can theoretically be perfect, with each pixel of the image being represented by 4 display pixels, unlike 3K.

If you want to save some money or just feel that anything above 1080p is overkill, I would go with Option 3. But if you want to go bigger than 1080p, I would just opt for 4K for the scaling aspect. It's up to you if you think the better performance of the Sharp is worth the premium over the Samsung (which is still a very nice display).

What is the response time like on the Sharp 4K Panel and how bad is the gloss in a high light environment? I tend to use my laptop where there is a lot of light overhead and so I had been focused more on the 1080p AHVA matte display.

Also, do people feel like the i7-4720 cpu is sufficient? I do a lot of rts gaming and so while I like almost everything about this model, I was a little bit hesitant about the cpu.

Now that the Killer 1525 ac card is available in configuration, this model really does seem like an ideal combination of power and portability.

You should just have to pay your local taxes (PST/GST/HST). If you use UPS ground they will also charge you brokerage fees, but if you go UPS Express they wont charge them. Express cost more up front but its typically less then ground and brokerage fees.

Of course it is not, local taxes and other fees would be very different depending which country you are in. Those fees are collected by local governments. Surprising as it is, apart from USA and Canada there are many, many other countries :)

average response time on the sharp panel is 25ms which sounds like a lot, but i havent heard a single complaint yet when it comes to gaming. no ghosting or tearing whatsoever :)

the sharp panel also sports a pretty high maximum brightness which should definitely help to counteract the glossiness. i myself am actually waiting for a matte version of this screen though, mysn will have it in stock mid february so other resellers might going to have it as well :)

according to htwingnut's review the 9xxm series gpus will, if at all, only be bottlenecked in a few games and then only by a few %. u always have the option to overclock the 4720HQ by +200 mhz though by using xtu :)

So I've uploaded a photo of the part I got up to in the registry editor, which is the part where I ended up getting stuck.

Sorry for the Smartphone photo, but I couldn't get my PrintScreen Button to work. I've also shown the ping ranges I get. Although in the photo it doesn't demonstrate the full range of high pings I get up to. It also doesn't show the occasions where I receive 'request timeout' messages.

It does seem to be working a lot better than it was yesterday, but still, the inconsistency shouldn't be happening. Especially on a laptop worth over a grand. Hopefully it sorts itself out even more! :p

    Cheers,

    Hey Cakefish,

Regarding that 3DMark error we both get or for anyone else who receives same error, set your display resolution back to 1920x1080. Perhaps it's a cocktail of non accredited drivers for the 980 and perhaps a limitation with 3DMark Demo where it can't launch the benchmarks on resolutions higher that 1080p? Not sure, but anyhow I managed to run a benchmark, results in the link below and running an odd driver from windows update as I was trying a few things yesterday. Was actually about to format and see how that would go hahaha.

    results

Try it out see if you can run some benchmarks, hopefully new nvidia drivers will settle the issue sometime down the track.

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980M video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-4710HQ,Clevo P65_P67SG powered by PremaMod.com

Yeah it does work if I set desktop resolution to 1920x1080; but runs the test in a tiny box in the centre of the screen, even with Ultra. Very weird. It must be some sort of scaling issue with either the Intel or NVIDIA drivers and/or some sort of bug concerning 4K resolutions within the 3DMark program.

As soon as set desktop resolution to native and try running it:

as for the box in the center issue: check the nvidia control panel and see if u can change the scaling options there from 100% to full-screen or stretched, maybe that will fix it...

Didn't change anything. Still in a box in the centre of the screen at 1920x1080. And still crashes at native resolution. No other game/benchmark I've tried has this issue. Only 3DMark.

Seeing as we both have the crashes, with the same hardware and the fact that no other games are affected, it can only be a bug with 3DMark itself.

If you're still on the hotel WiFi, honestly I'd not bother troubleshooting further. Hotel WiFi is probably the worst, most unreliable kind of Internet connection since 2G cellular data. I usually stay in over 10 different hotels a month and maybe only one or two might have what I would call "good" Internet. Your ping spikes could be caused by channel overlap by multiple access points in use at the hotel as well as other guests using their own mobile hot spots. Also if you and other guests are both trying to use the connection at the exact same time, you might get put "at the end of the line" so to speak for your packet, causing lag spikes there.

If you're on Android, you can get the app WiFi Analyzer to see just how crowded the spectrum is, and you can get PingTools to ping from your phone (there are other apps I'm sure) to see if your phone really is connecting better than your PC, or if you have just been perceiving it that way. You might also try to find and ping your gateway instead of Google from your PC to more accurately troubleshoot if the problem is between you and the router. To do this type "ipconfig" from the command prompt and look for "default gateway" and ping that IP address.

There is still a decent chance you have a real issue with your PC, but there are just so many other variables with hotel WiFi that you might never know if you've fixed it properly. Also, are the reported issues with the Intel wireless on 802.11ac only or 802.11n as well? The reason I ask is that it's highly unlikely the hotel is using 802.11ac or even 5GHz for that matter.

TPM is a hardware feature. No chip on board, no option in BIOS visible.

I think that maybe only 30% of the motherboards come with TPM chip...unless one of the main importer insisted on it, it's a lottery.

Seems really odd a manufacturer would make something like TPM a lottery. Eurocom says they include TPM for sure, so I'll assume they are requesting it direct from Clevo.

I might be wrong, but the specifications from Clevo shows that the TPM is not a factory option, so i would think it does come on all the variations. However, I found on the manual that TPM is not available is UEFI is not a active.

Did you check if you have UEFI active?

as bigspin already mentioned i ordered from mysn, reason being their 4k sharp display option and 4yrs extended warranty. theyre a bite on the pricey side though, so scan.co.uk could be a cheaper option for you. you could also contact power notebooks in the uk, they have an active nbr membership discount and meaker as their rep here has a pretty great standing at nbr. hes not in sales tho ^^

@icebounds: one.de and deviltech are known for comparatively competitive pricing but also for suboptimal customer service/communication ;) no scandals with them yet, just a heads-up that ull need some patience!

Just playing with my GTX 970m mem speed while playing farcry 4 almost maxed out and it's been really funny:

About +750 MHz (mem) and +135 mhz (core) with no artifacts at all, wondering how far could it go without crashes...

Btw, this game finally feels extremely smooth for me, after turning off third cpu core and overclocking the GPU.

You do realize that in Germany they speak German and not Dutch?
Also, what keyboard would you want? QWERTY? AZERTY? QWERTZ?

Yeah I totally agree with you there Stryker. Its not reliable whatsoever. However, I'm actually from New Zealand. I kind of wanted to resolve this issue before I went home in a couple of days to save the hassle and wait times involved with international shipping. That's if, the issues are of course, real.

You were also right about the Wifi connection on my phone also showing slight ping spikes as well. It wasn't as perfect as perceived, however the ping spikes that did occur were no way near as close to the ping spikes occurring on the laptop.

I also did the 'ipconfig' and used the 'default gateway' IP address. I'm not exactly sure what it demonstrates, but I still saw relatively high ping spikes while doing this, but not as high as what I got using the google method.

HIDevolution did say they could do a swap, where I would send them my card in return for the replacement. But I guess I shouldn't do that untill I get home.

Also when I unscrewed the bottom of my laptop it seemed there was a chunk missing out of it. I later found it stuck to the back panel of the laptop. This won't cause me any issues will it?

Great idea! I have been wanting to do this for a while, but unfortunately M.2 runs off 3.3V I believe which is why the adapter won't work. You can try something like this to up convert from 3.3v to 5V: https://www.sparkfun.com/products/10255

And where did you get that adapter board?

I just wish there was an adapter that would just convert from mPCI-e to USB. So many possible applications.

It basically checks only the link between you and the hotel's router. This eliminates any issues the hotel may be having with their ISP (or any other issues between you and Google or whatever website you ping) that might be causing the lag spikes. If you would be getting ping spikes with Google but none whatsoever with the router, it would mean the connection issue is with the hotel's Internet service (or the way they are prioritizing your packets) and would pretty much eliminate the cause being the laptop. The pings spikes weren't as high because they didn't have as far to travel, but because they are still there it means the WiFi connection itself is having problems, but until you can test it with other routers you can't be sure.

I would try it from a coffee shop or a library or someplace else with WiFi, if possible. They aren't generally much more reliable than hotels, but if you get the problem everywhere it would definitely increase the likelihood of the problem being on your end. How bad/frequent are the ping spikes?
