    Hey guys,

sorry if this has been covered previously but I'm having strange problems with Windows 8.1
If using the 970 instead of the integrated, the laptop will not go to sleep if i close the lid. Fans will remain on and drain the battery.
Also when I open up the lid nothing happens and then I need to reboot.

I ve checked windows power settings and all seems fine. Happends with Energy saver profile and high performance as well

Quick question: I am in France. If I buy a p650sg from, say, mythlogic, and a friend bring it back to me to France.

If the laptop has an issue, who will I ask? Clevo, since it holds the warranty, of mythlogic as a reseller?

I ordered from Ekimia. Very good service, price matching on the P650SE and of course fully configurable..( You can get the barebone only if you want)

Mythlogic is not a reseller its a builder, like Sager. Companies like Scan, Xoticpc, Genetec, LPCdigital etc... are resellers of Sager.

While I am very happy going with Mythlogic and they do do international sales, it probably would make sense to find a good Sager reseller closer to you since many of them have great reputations too.

I just had a crazy realization...
Since I ordered the 7265 wireless card (which is on M.2 slot) this means I have an mSATA port open!!! Is this correct? That would be awesome as I can put a mSATA ssd and the stock 1TB HDD in the drive bays. Does anyone know if the mSATA port runs at SATA 3? It's great because the mSATA drives cost the same as their 2.5 equivalents :)

Does it have two m.2 slots? Will I benefit from having two m.2 drives in Raid 0?

If you're comfortable doing things yourself, I'd buy RAM, HD/SSD and thermal paste myself... Other than the thermal paste, everything is easy to install and couldn't possibly justify the extra price.

PS: repasting is actually easy, but if done wrong can ruin stuff. I'd also not put ICD but if you're OK with that... :p

ok what about this? I will buy all my own parts ...

    Two questions ...

    1. Can i order directly from Sager living in USA or do I need to order elsewhere?
    2. Can I put two m.2 256 SSD Drives to obtain true Raid 0 performance?

    ...

What do you think of this build putting in all my own parts?

Hey guys, take a look at this configuration. I think this laptop has a potentially free mSATA port...

    Inside.jpg

@ Garbageman- I wouldn't bother with the 25 day dead pixel warranty- The re-seller already inspects laptop before shipping and the chances of a pixel dying on you a week or so later are extremely small. Also, don't bother getting SSD/HDD pre-installed; it's really easy to do yourself and you save quite a bit. If you want to save even more money you can get windows 8.1 Pro and Microsoft Office Pro for free through torrenting; though that's your personal decision.

I'd also HIGHLY recommend ordering from XoticPC, their price is excelent and so is their Quality check. In addition, for December they have FREE IC Diamond 7 re-paste, FREE upgrade to Intel 7265 card and a FREE 32GB USB stick. For what it's worth, you can check out my setup here:

    1. Buy from a reseller (XoticPC, gentech and LPC come to mind). Their support is far better than sager's.

    2. Some people would argue about the true need of putting those in raid 0. :p

Unless I read it wrong, the 7265 used the first M.2 port of these models.

Updated post to include my setup; total cost comes to $1314. I would strongly recommend the LG IPS panel as I heard bad things about the stock TN Panel. I don't recommend RAID 0 for SSD's unless money REALLY is not a concern. From HDD--->SSD there is a huge difference in times that justify the price however from SSD--->RAID SSD there is such a small difference that it's simply not worth the difference. (Unless 3-4 seconds is worth an additional ~300$)

YES. THERE ARE NO mPCIe / MSATA ports on this laptop. The Stock wifi card is M.2. I've had my own P650se open several times and swapped NGFF cards around the different ports. Two carry a PCIe signal on them, the third is strictly SATA. Just look at the picture above...very clearly not an mPCIe.

If you still don't believe me, clevo's own page explicitly says, there are 3 x M.2 ports.

Is it really so hard for people to search on this forum? I don't get it. NBR is one of the worst forums for people just asking questions and not doing any research. I guess it's partially because people like me get on and spoon feed others. I'll stop that bad habit.

The 7265 comes with M.2 plugs... Just download the manual and you'll see. See this from page 1:

Edited misinformation, sorry  the WiFi is still M.2 though :p

If he / she can't tell by close photos of the interface, other members asserting the M.2 interface, or from Clevo's own manual / Spec sheet, I'm not sure what else will convince them.

Also, I have not seen anything referencing the 7265 in anything other than M.2 or USB. The 7260 is offered in mini-pcie, but I haven't seen any mPCIe of the revised 7265. Intel's product brief mentions nothing of mini-pcie either.

Is the Sager NP8652 m.2 exclusive?

Can I order one of these without the Sager Logo? The Clevo's without branding looks really sexy ...

yes, both P65xSx models only sport m.2 ports, no msata ports.

some resellers/vendors do give u the option to order a chassis without branding, just contact them and ask when ordering.

    Also ...

Do you know if you can boot only into Intel mode for better battery life or is this one just optimus only and does it for you?

Can you get 5 hours of battery life with this thing?

    NP8652 = P650SG, so yes, only m.2 ports

what do u mean by "intel only mode"? when ure on igp in optimus the dpug is deactivated so that is basically an " intel only mode".
5 hours should be doable, but not really feasible im guessing, since ud basically just let the laptop idle at minimum brightness with all adapters switched off and not putting any load onto the system, so basically yeah, if u just wanna use it as an offline e-book reader ull probably get 5+ hours out of it ;) better ask an actual owner of that model tho :)

O thank you very much for the clarification.

Like for example. The MSI Dominator has a "Switch" mode. You have to reboot but it only uses the Intel video card. And when you have it deactivated and go back to nvidia you can run up to 4 monitors.

I know optimus does all this. But I was just wondering if there is a more efficient way.

What I am looking for is just Word for taking notes during a 2-4 hour class. And then when I get out of class I can plug in and taking a hardcore gaming break.

Optimus does this automatically without the switch and reboot. You can also designate which programs you would like to use on igpu/dgpu. Seems more efficient than a physical switch then reboot.

The reason they have it is because you can use 4 monitors. With optimus Yiu can't use multiple monitors.

You can run multiple monitors but I think they go through the igpu, is that what you mean?

I mean when you are gaming. You can run 4 monitors at a time to game with it. I would really need it but it would be nice as an option.

I feel like we might be talking about different things but I am 99% sure you can run multiple more monitors on this notebook.

While playing games though? You know where you see the game on different monitors at the same time?

Please do not accuse me of just asking questions and not doing any research. I asked which model the WiFi card is on the stock P650SE. The 7265 card is an UPGRADE, I know the 7265 is M.2; I did research it. The stock model however is listed only as: "Integrated 802.11 b/g/n wireless LAN + Bluetooth™ 4.0" with no information given on the actual model; hence my question of which interface the stock card uses.

I understand we each have our opinions but please do not throw insults around unless you have solid ground

To anyone who missed what this was about, here is a quick summary: Laptop has 3 M.2 slots, mSATA drive not possible

I think the Sager NP8652 is now my number one choice.

    1. Sager NP8652
    2. GS60 Ghost Pro
    3. MSI GT72 Dominator Pro
    4. Aorus X7 Pro
    5. Sager NP9377-S

Any comments on any of these laptops would be greatly appreciated.

    Take out these:
MSI GT72 Dominator Pro- Too thick; you mentioned you want portability.
    Aorus X7 Pro- Too expensive
Sager NP9377-S- Way too thick; you mentioned you want portability.

Personally I'd take the NP8651 instead of the NP8652 because, like I said before, it's thinner, SLIGHTLY better temperatures and more OC headroom.
I'd also remove the ghost as temps on it are just to high for my liking; no OC headroom. The P34Gv3 might be worth taking a look at but it's not even out yet :p

In all fairness, you're not the only one here asking for information that's RIGHT THERE IN THE MANUAL and/or has been covered in this thread.
You don't need to scour the interwebs for days before you come here to ask questions, but for the love of Xmas I can't stand lazy people who won't even read the thread or at least search it.

I mean, come on, asking if there's mSata? Man, RTFM.

Actually, there is no "Integrated" (i.e. built into motherboard) wireless on the 65X series. All wireless options are removable/replaceable M.2 cards. Only the LAN is built onto the motherboard. Which wireless card is the "Base" model depends on the choice of your particular reseller. See the Clevo website here. One of the options is an unspecified wireless card. The particular brand for that option may just be whatever generic card Clevo is getting their hands on cheapest when your computer is built. Best is to contact your reseller, but I bet they tell you the same.

I don't know where you are, but on the XOTIC PC website, the "default" model wireless is the no-name option, but the Intel 7265 is a whopping $0 upgrade. So, that's kind of a no-brainer.

Lest I am mistaken the 970m also has an OC cap, doesn't it? The 980m can only add 135MHz to the core, the bios won't allow more (but there's always bios modding...)

Temps shouldn't be any concern anyway since my 980m never even breaks a sweat (75c max while 102c is the load limit) at any load I give it. It's over cooled it seems :)

You are correct. To be honest once I saw that the 7265, I immediately got excited thinking I'd free up an mSATA port. I quickly looked at XoticPC's specs and noticed they listed 2 M.2 slots so I got excited and didn't dig much deeper; I posted right to the forum. Sorry about that.
But the whole spoon fed thing isn't really true... I've asked very few questions on the thread and most of my posts are me helping other people. I also have a youtube channel full of laptop tutorials/videos.

I do understand what you mean by people asking stupid questions, however I don't think I asked a stupid question. It could have been researched further, yes but I didn't ask if I could boot with just iGPU when Optimus has been out for 3 generations now...

Both the 970m and 980m have unlocked BIOS's possible. The reason the 980m is MORE limited than the 970m when it comes to OC'ing is temperatures (You mention 75 degrees for 980m where as 970m is reported around 63 degrees) as well as the 180W power supply.

Well, any 'rant' isn't neccesarily aimed at you. It's more of a gentle warning to all to do your own due diligence and come here knowing stuff already and just fine tuning your knowledge, not flooding the thread with questions as if you're the A student, this is not school. Again, not neccesarily you.

People should always read the manual if you want to know the possible machine of your choice, that is the only way to know what ports go where and what not. Resellers make mistakes listing stuff all the time, nothing critical, but annoying if that's the info you're looking for.

I agree with you. I apologize for asking that; truly it was in the manual and I should have looked deeper. I'll make sure to research more on a question before I post as should all forum members.

Now back to tech, I'd appreciate if someone could follow this tutorial and report back on their temps.

Also @ GarbageMan, I think that is just way to heavy for a laptop on campus. It is also very thick; if you want portability (as you should for a laptop you're using on campus) then that is not the right choice for you at all.

Finally GarbageMan I have to agree with tijgert. Thread pollution is what got you banned last time; try to avoid questions like that. This thread is directed at this laptop so posts should be relevant. tijgert is right in re-directing you; it helps everyone out. Reduces clutter and gets you a more informed answer (since they own the laptop).
