I'm beginning to wonder if Windows 8.1 causes all of @Cakefish's problems. Have you tried Windows 7? Everything is working perfect for me.

I watched the Xotic PC review of the 8651 and just on benchmarks the CPU was 92 degrees.
You must be playing Mine craft or something.
I am taking about playing for hours on BF4 with settings on Ultra. Do that and report back to me with High Temps and Throttling. -

Anybody experiencing serious issues on this laptop besides poor Cakefish? -
Me having so many issues between this and the P35X v3, you may be thinking I'm making it all up but trust me, I'd much rather be posting benchmarks, overclocking results, temperature readings and comments on 4K game compatibility than all these damn problems I'm having. I just want to enjoy the new laptop experience like you guys!

I know, it is sad to read your post, especially with your Bluetooth curse. Are you awake that early to wait for the replacement card?

Ok first impressions, this thing is thinner than I had expected (980m) which is fantastic! However the overall template is larger than what I thought (to me it looks like what I had imagined a 17 would have looked like so I am glad I didn't buy a 17incher. Keep in mind i have been out of the laptop game since wide screens went mainstream so its been a while.
Wow this has got to be the best machine I have ever used. I am really impressed with it. The screen is grest! I am debating if I even want to compare the Samsung and lg screens. Doesn't seem necessary for me to swap it. I have found no flaws in the stock lg display. This is my first IPS display so maybe I'm over reacting a bit but it is a beauty and the 1080p is perfect for me personally. It looks amazing on a 15 inch display.
For some reason I got confused when trying to access the two mem slots under the keyboard. I had thought the whole back had to be removed so I couldn't find the hole to push up on the keyboard. Once dabeer got me squared away I found the whole process very easy.
I installed the 7mm ssd alongside the 1tb 9.5mm however when I dropped my image on it for some reason it installed the system reserved partition on the platter drive.... Had to reimage it again (took out the platter drive this time) so i didn't have to fight with it again.
Drivers installed perfectly using the CDs and an external optical drive
First finger print reader I have used and it works flawlessly very cool!
As others have stated no issues so far with the 7625 Bluetooth and WiFi works great!
Only flaw in my system I have discovered is the top left corner of my screen wasn't snapped in and I noticed this right off the bat. I pushed it in and it keeps popping out its more annoying then anything else I don't think it is affecting anything other than causing me ocd issues. I may have to just remove the bezel completely and see if resetting it secures it properly.
I haven't done any temp tests but I didn't run a benchmark and it was right there with all the reviews scoring 8150+ on firestrike 3dmarkthis is insane as my gaming rig that is now outdated but still very capable only scores 7800+ on firestrike. Who would have thought I would own a laptop with more balls then my gaming full tower PC?
Edit: I finally got to try out limelight to stream steam games to my android device. I have only owned ati cards so I hadn't gotten to try this feature until now It works pretty much like steams in home streaming but now android capable.Last edited: Dec 24, 2014Cakefish, edwardamin13, flamy and 1 other person like this. -

So you have 2x8GB ram right? Where do you install them to get dual channel speed? just put both stick at the bottom part of the mobo? -
Reinstalled Windows to hopefully get rid of that horrible game stutter.

as for wifi cards, u peeps can still go for lowend realtek cards, those dont have any issues! -
Replacement Killer card has arrived. As if in anticipation, the Bluetooth decided to come alive again after I did the reinstall of Windows! It's so random. Let's see if the new card is more reliable...
EDIT: alright so happy to report that a complete reinstall of Windows combined with a re-flash of the latest EC (as I noticed that Prema's BIOS files actually flashed an older EC on top of the newer version I had before) seems to have completely solved the stuttering in games. Half an hour of Crysis 3 ran very nice and smooth with zero CPU throttling. Max temps: 66°C CPU, 63°C GPU. Now to replace the wireless card and hopefully sort out Bluetooth...Last edited: Dec 24, 2014 -
2) uninstall Hotkey
3) install hotkey 3.05.16
4) remove any softwares like MSI afterburner. HWinfo if you want temps.
5) regarding the CPU put in the hotkey menu the entertainment mode, not the performance mode
EDIT : ok ok, you see changing the EC/bios solvedi just read your post too late ! BUT keep in mind, your problem isn't a THERMAL throttling, just a stupid algorithm bug in the EC/bios

Installed the replacement Killer 1525 card. All well so far. It works, so that's always a good place to start!
Now to just see if Bluetooth actually stays alive this time. Please, please, please work!
- The original BIOS/EC combo on my laptop was: BIOS 1.03.02, EC 1.03.03.
- After I flashed the XMG files: BIOS 1.03.03, EC 1.03.04.
- After I flashed Prema's files: BIOS 1.03.03, EC 1.03.03.
So I flashed the EC from the XMG files (1.03.04) but kept Prema's BIOS (1.03.03). No XMG boot logo and games seem to play OK now *knock on wood*

My desktop only scores 6500 on firestrike so looks like I am in for a treat as well when mine arrives! Hard to believe so much power in a laptop.
Sorry for so many questions.. and have a great Christmas gaming on that beast! -
I have the same problem with stuttering. Could you write a little "how-to"? I have no plan of flashing a new ec. -

Hello folks,
I have received my np8651 a few days ago, and installed windows 7 on it.
I'm having an odd issue with hdmi output however. I've tried this on multiple monitors (monitor and tv) and the issue is I keep getting green specs appearing all over the display (especially noticeable on dark images). I've used different hdmi cables on both monitors.
I've updated the intel vga adapter and everything. Anyone got any ideas on what maybe the problem? I'd much rather not send this thing out since shipping is a pain (Canada).
Laptop was purchased from reflexnotebook (but it was built from Sager).
Thanks. -

Thanks HTWingNut.
I'll dig around for another cable and report back! -
I installed 2x8 under the keyboard together and they are recognised as dual channel. I had to remove the stock ram (cas11) since I don't know if its worth 24 GB but different timings or just 16gb cas9. I may put it back in later but didn't want it to limit performance. I had ordered the laptop with just the default 1x8 and they installed it under the keyboard but I figure that was better now if I upgrade I just have to take back cover off. Although gaining access to the slots under the keyboard is prob faster but I feel more comfortable doing the back plate
The 1tb platter is a HGST 7K100
The ram is a Samsung M471B1G73QH0
Looks like mine is came with UEFI disabled. -
1) create a bootable usb under w8 using rufus and freedos.
2) copy the content of the XMG EC to the usb
3) deactivate UEFI and secure boot in the bios menu
4) power your notebook and press F7 to select the USB to boot it
5) access the folder where your EC files are in (using cd and dir)
6) launch the update.bat or flashme.bat, something .bat

Almost missed my flight trying to get stuff installed on my laptop
haven't gotten a chance to download drivers and such. I will probably get that done tonight. The fit and finish is absolutely amazing! The thinness is also amazing I thought it was going to be much thicker than it actually is.

Not sure if he missed my previous post, but I was curious if anyone knew what he was using bluetooth for.
It seems highly suspect that he had bluetooth problem on the p35x on the intel card and now having issues on the p8652 with the killer card. This seems to me that it's not the hardware at fault, but potentially caused by whatever he is doing. -
@danisrael, congrats on your new laptop. I'm thinking of getting an identical one myself. You don't by chance play mechwarrior online do you?danisrael likes this. -
P651SG - actually being able to find the Bluetooth settings in Windows and not have Code 45 errors in device manager.
Surely not too much to ask for!

Cakefish, I've been following your laptop odyssey for months and you've been unfortunate but I hope it's finally perfect - for your sake, of course, and ours (we neeeeed those all revealing XTU graphs!)

Bluetooth still activated. So far so good.

I've collected mine this afternoon at the courier's depot, played around a bit with it and installed my 840 pro and a 2tb samsung hdd. I've also downloaded mgs5gz, haven't had the time to play it, but the intro is gorgeous.
There's something of a problem I need to sort tomorrow, though. Basically I have a win8 pro key bought on jan 2013 that I've used only for a couple of months because of some games compatibilities.
I've planned on using it with the laptop, so I haven't ordered it with an OS. I was surprised when on first boot it loaded win8.1, but I was unable to use my 8.0 pro key.
I think I'll reinstall windows and the drivers, but the prospect of buying a new key, downgrade to the "core" version of 8.1 but leave everything working as it is, is still tempting.. -

XTU (extreme tuning utility) from Intel is also pretty nice, very simple to use

Well, it's 3AM here, I think I'll go to bed. Just a question, maybe it's common knowledge but I haven't used a laptop estensively enough: will the screen turn off if I close the lid and isn't programmed to sleep, hibernate or shutdown?

Yes, I've just tried. That was dumb.
