MBR partitions are not compatible with UEFI. Windows therefore won't boot when UEFI is enabled if installed to an MBR partition.
The fresh install solved my Bluetooth issue too. Everything seems to be running great now![]()

Hmmm.. So we have UEFI then.. Funny coz the bios looked like any other old bios to me. Or does it show the DOS bios perhaps when the OS is on an MBR drive?
-
Yeah Scan set it up to be in non-UEFI mode. But I want UEFI enabled. So I had to reinstall windows from scratch via the disk provided. Solved my Bluetooth issue, so I'm happy

Besides looking at disk manager, how can you tell? What's the big diff?
-
How is the screen comparing the one on Gigabyte?
Pros and cons of the screen? -
I also had to enable uefi after several trys to install my os in uefi mode with a gpt formatted sd card.

Anyone have experience with picking up a package at a UPS customer center? I'm thinking it'll get to my area Tuesday night and not go out for delivery until Wednesday afternoon. Maybe I could do a will call and hold it at a customer center and pick it up my self earlier in the morning before I leave? I'll give UPS a call tomorrow and find out. Hopefully it works out that way
-
How do I set up my fingerprint scanner? Can't seem to find where abouts however I'd assume it's in the control panel (running Windows 8.1 with classic shell).
-
gpt intialization at boot is significantly faster than mbr. also, gpt is necessary for uefi install of win 8.1. plus gpt has redundancy boot sectors, so if one of them is corrupted u still have extra ones to be able to boot. aside from that, gpt also supports way larger boot storage than mbr (dont remember the limit, i think it was 2tb?)

Jaybee I noticed you're from Germany, what part if you dont mind me asking? I work for a German company and had to take trip to Saarbrucken for few weeks and have a few friends/colleagues around the area. I took a short trip to Trier which was beautiful. I would love to go back! (sorry for the off topic)

Ok, impressions so far of my NP8651 with the 4K Sharp:
Outer design: Simple, yet sleek. It's not obviously a gaming laptop *cough*MSI's Dragon*cough*, which will be a plus to some. But at the same time, it's not bulky or boxy like many gaming laptops or business computers. The aluminum body is nice, although I can see it being a fingerprint magnet.
Keyboard: Again, simple, but functional. Minimal keyboard flex. Will take some time to get used to the compressed layout of the arrow keys and NumPad, but that's a necessary compromise for cramming a NumPad in a 15.6" laptop (my old Dell doesn't have a NumPad, which is highly annoying when doing engineering coursework). My only microscopic complaint is that the indicator light for the Caps Lock key is hard to see, since it gets obscured by your hand. My Dell has a light directly on the key, making it easier to tell if Caps Lock is on. Can anyone say "nitpicking"?
Touchpad: Plenty big, decent surface, and the buttons have about the right amount of travel. Having the fingerprint reader between the buttons will take some getting used to, as it tends to get in the way when transitioning between left and right click. But at least there are individual buttons, since so many laptops seem to be going away from them. From experience using some of my roommates' laptops, I can say I absolutely despise the touchpads with integrated buttons. But on the whole, this isn't that important, and wouldn't have been a deal-breaker in any case, since I will be doing most of my work (and all of my gaming) using a mouse anyway. But for the times when I am stuck using the touchpad, it's good to know that it is at least serviceable.
Speakers: Nothing to write home about, but nothing to complain about. Not as good as those in my Dell StudioXPS, especially when it comes to bass, but that's not terribly surprising, since that thing had pretty nice speakers for a 15.6" laptop. I'll mess around with the Sound Blaster settings some more to see if I can improve anything.
Screen: My god, that screen! The 4K Sharp IGZO is positively beautiful. Hands down the best screen I have ever seen on a laptop. The screen on my Dell StudioXPS is pretty damn nice, but this just blows it out of the water. Even if you have to scale games down to 1080p, the overall performance of this screen is still stunning. Seriously, I can't say enough about this screen, it's just amazing.
Setup: I ordered it without an OS, since I got Windows 8.1 for free through my university, so I had to install everything myself. No issues installing Windows from a USB. Unfortunately, the portable optical drive I ordered with the laptop did not arrive at the same time, so I had to download the drivers from the internet. The only hiccup was NVIDIA's Geforce Experience didn't want to install properly from the driver download link, so I had to get it from NVIDIA's website instead. But having zero bloatware on a new rig is soooo refreshing.
Performance: Haven't had a chance to really put it through it's paces yet, but it looks like the 970m should be able to handle damn near everything I throw at it in 1080p. 4K in anything but indie games is probably a no-go if you want decent settings and fps, but 1080p still looks great on this screen.
Temps: Again, haven't really made it work yet, but what I have done has barely made the fans kick in, and it's stayed completely cool to the touch.
I need to get an SSD and another 8GB of RAM at some point in the future, but so far I am completely satisfied with my purchase. And I'd like to thank XOTICPC for a great customer experience; would definitely do business with them again.Richteralan, tfast500, Cakefish and 5 others like this. -
Saarbrucken is pretty far south, it's right on the boarder to France. Driving on the autobahn was pretty sweet too! Definitely missed that a lot haha.

Well I've finally gone and ordered one from Metabox here in Australia. I went for the Sharp 4k screen and 980m in the end- hoping it'll last me through a few years of portable gaming.
Only bad thing is waiting until the middle of Jan before it arrives. Still, that'll coincide with going back to work - at least I'll have something to look forward to! -
I've had that bite me a couple times. :-(.
I hope you get a better result if you call them. -

Thanks for the info Jer I'll be giving them a call tomorrow hoping for some good news. It's only 3 miles away so picking up in the morning would be great that way I can have my toy with me on vacation.

- Reflections: Panasonic wins, obviously. Sharp does surprisingly well at full brightness to mitigate reflections in a brightly lit room though.
- Brightness: Panasonic wins. The difference isn't that great, but from my memory the Panasonic is slightly brighter.
- Black levels: Sharp wins. It's not a colossal difference, but it is enough to be noticeable.
- Contrast: Sharp wins. As above, it's not a major difference, but it is enough to be noticeable.
- Colour saturation: Sharp wins. Both have lively vivid colours, but the Sharp has a slight edge here due to the lack of a matte coating.
- Viewing angles: Sharp wins again. Both have very decent viewing angles, but the Panasonic has noticeable brightness shift when viewed from an angle above the display, which does not affect the Sharp anywhere near as much.
- Sharpness: Sharp wins, obviously. The Panasonic is still very crisp and clear though. Both look great. The experience really all depends on the scaling level applied in Windows.

Been scouring this thread and the Gigabyte thread. This seems to be the one to get. Thanks so much for all the info!
I was thinking of ordering the MYTHLOGIC Dia 1614 - I think it is the same, just with their branding? Is that true? Also looking at xotic and LPC. Any advice between the three? I like that Myth seems to build them themselves and QCs each one. However, Xotic seems to sell more and Larry at LPC seems like a very cool guy to work with, which is nice as well.
Also, as a newbie, Would it be better - and easy? - to just order with a cheaper drive and put in an 850 evo myself later? None of them have the regular 850 evo available, only the pro, which is super pricey. They do have the older 840 evo for about the same price as the newer 850 evo.
Thanks. -
and the others have - Intel® Dual Band - AC 7265 M.2 Wireless LAN + Bluetooth Module 4.0
Is that a big enough deal to not get the Myth version? -

I am now thinking of just having them put the OS put onto a crucial mx100 512 SSD drive and getting the 1 TB 7200 rpm drive as a backup until I can get my hands on an 850 evo to replace the 7200 RPM drive with down the line. -

Hi All,
Been a lurker here but signed up to post this.
Had P650SG for the past week. I got a few problems. I have Crucial 240GB M.2 SSD in RAID 0. However, the sequential read speed is capped at 500 MB/s the write speed is doubled.
I get odd thermal throttling when I play games (so far only tried BF4 and DOTA2). If I do stress test there is never any thermal throttling although there is both power and current throttling. In the last screenshot the low CPU frequency was because the laptop was on battery after I plugged it in current throttle limit then kicks in straight away (Prime 95)
The thermal throttle in games can be very random, sometimes five minutes other times one or two minutes between spikes.
I have tried to drop the voltage with no help. So pretty much I am out of ideas.

. Install the driver, set a PW for your account, then scan your FP and that's it.
If you don't have a manual, download it from the driver-link in the OP. -
DON'T install the Bluetooth drivers for the Killer 1525 - it permanently breaks Bluetooth, only fixable by a fresh install. I have learnt the hard way :/
Resetting windows didn't bring Bluetooth back oh god, what have I done...

Can some owner check if NVMe compatibility is mentioned in BIOS? I'd like to know if it's worth the wait for a Samsung XP951 or if it's better to go with classic SATA m.2 drives

I'm having to reinstall windows completely from disk again. Seriously, never install the Bluetooth driver for the Killer 1525. Good God, how is it possible to create such broken drivers?

Is anyone using the SPDIF port?? I'm trying to get it to push sound through my A50's but no go, is there something about this that doesn't allow audio through toslink? It lights up and lights up on the other end of the cable too.
If someone can shed some light, would be much appreciated. Thanks -
Here is the solution::hi2:

Anyone else with the Killer 1525 that has had this issue? Bluetooth completely absent whatever driver is installed, not appearing even in device manager! Like it doesn't exist. But, it did work once, but since I installed the driver which messed it up and performed a fresh install (which I thought would fix it) I haven't been able to get it working again. Any ideas?
I'm keen to make more comments on the differences between this and the P35X v3 but this issue is infuriating me. Can't believe I'm having an issue with Bluetooth - just like I had an issue with the P35X v3's Bluetooth! At least with the P35X v3 it recognised the driver in device manager. Here with the P651SG it's just pretending Bluetooth doesn't exist.

Does your hotkey software allow you to enable/disable Bluetooth? I got similar issue with my webcam and after I enable it from hotkey software, it worked.
