Haven't posted in a few days and just catching up. In my opinion 4K is a bit much at 15", of course this depends on your uses. I just got a Dell P2715Q which is a 60Hz 27" 4K IPS and I couldn't imagine running 4K on 15". The 15" rMBP works because the scaling is somewhat consistent across applications and it's 3K. I don't think Windows is ready and I will be ordering the 1080P IPS screen for my Sager. In a couple years I have no doubt I'll be running a laptop with 4K or 5K screens but it's simply not ready right now.
Also, I would always go with Intel wireless cards. Killer is notorious for having driver issues. Also if you ever plan on running Linux good luck getting killer to run stable...
-
Crud just talked to Mythlogic and sounds like the Sharp 4k screens got delayed for them like everyone else (except that small shipment that Schenker?? got and instantly ran out of) so now I have to decide on waiting till January, or trying to change to the 1080p IPS option or such.

ah wasnt aware that he had an 840 evo in pre-fixed state...
nice, good job alaskajoel! ill add this mod to the OP right away (since wickette wont be able to do it himself mwahaha)

I emailed RJTech and Sager a couple days ago regarding the P651 notebooks... Doesn't look like they'll be carrying them anytime soon.

The XMG P505 is what you're looking for. -
My order has been placed! again..lol
I placed an order with Mythlogic mid-october and they were great up until recently where communication from them disappeared. I sent out 2 separate emails (one to Josh, one to Sales) about some questions I had and did not hear back for over 10 days. Decided to call them and cancel my order since I was becoming dissatisfied with the customer service.
Reached out to Donald from PowerNotebooks and he helped me promptly. Answered my questions immediately and walked me through the whole process. Very satisfied with the service so far. Still gonna be a while until I will have my hands on the system but I am beyond excited! This is going to be an astronomical upgrade from my current system.

I have exchanged several emails with Donald at PowerNotebooks as well and he's always been super helpful and fairly prompt in his replies.
My order is currently placed with Mythlogic. I hope they continue to watch this thread and see your dissatisfaction so they can pick up their game a bit. -
Mine is arriving tomorrow though, dead excited! 2 days before I go home for the Xmas break and I'm free to really test this out. -
Hey everyone, just wanted to say hi
I'll probably be joining this thread once I get an np8652
I've been looking for a laptop with a good 4k display for a while now and now that sager's offering the sharp 4k panel on this laptop I think I found the one
It's going to be great for gaming and my work in college

Maybe they are just crazy busy but they have mostly ignored my emails. The one time they did contact me they have were very vague as to what exact screen they do offer. -

Hi all,
I am thinking about buying a P650SG from Metabox over here in Australia. I previously had an order in for the Gigabyte P35X V3 but issues with heat and unavailability caused me to cancel that. Reading this thread sounds a lot more positive than the Gigabyte owners lounge - I'll especially be interested to hear what Cakefish has to say about his new toy when it arrives (compared to the P35X).
There's only one thing that's really holding me back at the moment. I would like either a 3K or 4K screen (haven't decided which yet!) so am thinking an 8Gb 980 would be the way to go. AFAIK, Clevo/Metabox/Sager don't offer the P650 with an 8Gb card, yet they will put an 8Gb 980 in their P157 which only comes with a 1080p screen.
Surely it makes more sense to have more VRAM in a higher res screen? Does anyone know if Clevo/Metabox/Sager plan to release the P650 with an 8Gb card?
Thanks in advance
JamieMac
ps - any advice on whether to go for the 3K or 4K screen? I'm looking at playing Wargame, other RTS's, Far Cry 4 etc. Happy that I may have to dial down the quality settings for 3K/4K at times, but which screen should look best running at 1080P for future games? -
very unlikely that an 8GB vram version will ever be released. also, its not a "card" per se, since that would imply an exchangeable part, which it is not, but rather a soldered component. as opposed to that, the p150/p170 series have exchangeable mxm cards, where installation of more vram is way easier than tracing extra vram on a motherboard with soldered gpu.
the only one who can make changes to the motherboard design and thus the gpu vram size would be clevo, sager and other resellers wouldnt have a say in it, only influence in clevo´s decision-making to a restricted degree.
as for the screens: seriously, i just dont understand why so many people are opting for a 3K screen! scaling to 1080p with a 3K screen just doesnt make any sense when comparing the same scaling with a 4K screen, since the latter would scale 2x2 pixels into one, whereas the 3K screen cannot work with integers, resulting into something like 1.5x1.5 pixels for one scaled pixel at 1080p, thus one can expect way more blurriness!
just my 2c

Thanks for the advice Jaybee, I guess I'll probably take the plunge and go for the 4Gb card, but I was wondering just how much VRAM current and near-future games area likely to need.
I had thought the exact same thing about the scaling of a 4K screen vs the 3K, but I don't suppose there's much chance of running many games at native resolution at all. Maybe more of a chance at 3K, but I suppose it all comes down to how much you are happy to lower quality settings. -
its not about native scaling, but rather interpolation of 3K/4K to 1080p, exactly BECAUSE native scaling would have too large of an performance impact. id just expect 4K to interpolate way better to 1080p compared to 3K because of the above stated reason

Definitely agree with what you have said jaybee83, in fact the was the whole reason to why I wanted to upgrade to 4K later on as it should interpolate better at 1080p. But since having owned this machine, I'm extremely happy with performance and temps at 3k res also what it actually looks like when I switch to 1080p, it is not that bad at all, actually barely noticeable unless you really look at it. I'm even forgetting about the upgrade to 4K that I had planned for Jan/Feb. Good thing is that upgrade will always be available if I get tired of 3k that is. Screen is absolutely stunning no matter how odd the native resolution is and I would recommend it in a heartbeat

Yet 1080p scaled to 3K looks mighty fine on the Panasonic screen. Trust me, I had a P35X v3. If 1080p on a 4K display looks even better, then we're all in for a seriously scrumptious treat for the eyes.
11:30AM and still no signs of activity at Scan. If it doesn't dispatch today I'm writing a letter of complaint to Scanta; the Scan elves are slacking, not acceptable!

I've just amend my order on PC Specialist from 3K to Sharp 4K display, dont know if I made a good choice but all review for this sharp panel are good, I've to wait one more week and this beast will be in my hands!
-
Damn straight it would on that 4K lets see if i can hold out on this "upgrade" in jan LOL. But still love this screen.
-
I would think the 980m would be the more limiting factor in 4K gaming than the vram. Single GPUs just can't handle that resolution yet. If you want 4K, you would have to get SLI.
Note: I am talking about AAA type games and not Indies. -

same here, 4K is just brilliant for additional work space on the desktop level and for gaming ull just switch to 1080p

Rayman Origins and Rayman Legends are AAA's that would work well at 4K too!

Really well packaged so not the slightest bit of damage which was much to my relief. Only main comments so far? Screen feels poor, some text seems blurry but I'm colourblind so that doesn't bother me/I can't tell as such. Trackpad also feels slightly slower than what I'm used to, so I want to find a way of increasing the DPI.
Apart from that this machine is a beauty. Amazing power concealed in a professional chassis. Can sit in the library with this and none of my fellow student would have a clue what this beast can handle. -

what exactly did happen in those 5-10 min? also, check what happens if u let the system idle for an hour after those 5-10 minutes, see if the performance goes back up again. also make sure u activate the trim command each time before u run a bench. might be the garbage collection busying the drive...

-
Now I did the test after 3min and it jumped down to 220/200. All I did was launching chrome, checked this forum and then did the test.
Oh wait.. Just noticed something. It says in Magician that I'm connected to a SATA2-port and not a SATA3. Could that be it?Last edited: Dec 16, 2014 -
Did your laptop not come with a legit and legal copy of Windows preinstalled?
Sent from my Nexus 5adampk17 likes this. -
I think I found the problem. The SSD says its connected to SATA2. But I thought both the ports in the HD-bay was SATA3? Hmm
Okay looks like IRST and Magician is reporting that I'm connected with SATA3 first 5mins after I've booted up (Speeds 500/500), but after 5min both IRST and Magician is reporting that I'm connected to a SATA2 port. Something is obviously wrong with drivers? Or?Last edited: Dec 16, 2014 -

that cant be right, on sata2 u wouldnt be able to reach 500+ speeds at all, not even for one bench...
-
Well no action today either. I pray for a Thursday delivery and dispatch tomorrow.

I know, But it's not true. Both ports in the HD-bay is SATA3, and it is connected to SATA3, but somehow after 3-4min windows think it's connected to a SATA2 instead?!
HWInfo says this about the drive:
Drive Controller: Serial ATA 6Gb/s @ 3Gb/s
Drive Model: Samsung SSD 840 EVO 500GB
Drive Revision: EXT0CB6Q
Drive Serial Number: S1DHNSAFA75834M
World Wide Name: 50025388A0773E4B
Drive Capacity: 476,940 MBytes (500 GB)
SATA 6Gb/s -
check and see if the drive is properly connected. could be a loose connection...

Scanta is 2 days behind schedule. I won't get dispatch until at least Thursday

Dude, do not ask for help when you are running a pirated copy of Windows. You're a thief and you deserve whatever hardship you get.Rick_in_ICT and Major_Hazzard like this. -
On my part, I've sent a mail to pc specialist, my 650sg is still on pre-production on the 10th day after the order. I hope in a favourable response tomorrow, but I don't think I'll have it before christmas, sadly.
Maybe I'll ask if I could add a fast track option now, if it's not too late. -
I'd advise getting a legit copy and going from there. I'm sure it'll solve the issue. I'm not personally comfortable providing technical assistance for a pirate.

Anyway, the easy answer is surely to use the free version of Windows 10 which Microsoft has made available. -

Is anyone here experiencing really high idle CPU usage and temps? After a fresh boot, I'm sitting at over 30% CPU usage and CPU/Motherboard temps over 60....
Things I've tried:
- Ran Malwarebytes - nothing found
- Using CMD to reapir Windows Image
It seems to be Device Setup Manager (using 12-13% constantly) and WMI Provider Host (using 10% constantly).
This makes my fans ramp up every 10-15 seconds for about 15-30 seconds.

I am looking for compatible RAM to upgrade my P650SE, but I am quite confused about what kind of RAM to choose between these factors: Frequency, CL and voltage. The usual RAM specs I found on this laptop is 1600MHz CL9 @ 1.35V, if I buy a different one with 1866MHz CL10 @ 1.5V will it be compatible? And what are the differences in speed between these two specs?
Last edited: Dec 16, 2014 -
1.35V is the safe way to go for haswell cpus, as 1.5v might not be stable on the mobo. as for the speed and timings, u can choose whatever u like, the integrated memory controller can easily handle 2133 mhz or even more

Has anyone tried ram with 2133mhz? 16GB of it or more, keen to see system stability/performance
