    Hey Guys,

so it seems like the notebook will be at my place at tuesday. Today the status changed to : In assembly.
Oh my God can't wait. But as far as I know, today already some gtx980m models are shipped already! Is anyone lucky here? maybe they will get it tomorrow. Would be nice if they could post something about build quality temps etc.

Status update from NotebookCheck: they received a pre-production sample of XMG P505 with GTX 980M (Clevo P651SG) from Schenker but they delayed publishing their test results as the review unit had just TN screen (instead of the final IPS) and CPU was throttling to 1.6 GHz in 3D applications:

Ouch. I have to say that that worries me a little, even if it's an early sample. But it's normal to be worried when you're talking about something so expensive that you WANT to be awesome.

There is the 14 day cancellation period though, so I'll have more than enough time to test it out and see if it's up to scratch. Fingers crossed.

He also wrote that the CPU was an "engineering sample" whatever that means?

Wait, what? My order status just changed to "delivery". Does that mean it's about to be sent out? :O I must be misunderstanding haha

EDIT: There's a tracking number, so I guess I haven't misunderstood! :D Although the number's not active yet, but I'm pretty sure that's normal.

Engineering sample are CPUs that are more "damaged" then usual : bad temperature sensors, stress tested a lot, they are manufactured using alternative, low rate production methods.

Let just say it's a prototype created in order to test, and launch with no worries, the production of the "real" processor which will include fixes, better sensors and will pass through firm quality control checks. An engineering sample that throttles that's more than normal.

No you should be happy :) ! XMG are already shipping 980M P505 they said it yesterday on the forum.

I saw that too, I just didn't expect mine to get sent out so quickly, considering I had only ordered a week ago! When I ordered from PC Specialist 18 months back, I paid like €80 extra for 3 day dispatch, because I saw that dispatch often took 10 working days without the rush service.

Suffice to say I'm already VERY pleased with XMG :) Their customer service has been great in answering my questions, and then there's this much earlier than expected dispatch! Here's hoping the P505 lives up to this great service :)

p.s., je tiens à te dire bonjour en français wickette, puisque je suis un passionné de la langue française et que cette passion m'a amené à venir faire mes études à Paris :D

Not this this helps, but in a chat session with them they said that they just offer what Sager offers on their configurations. So we get to wait until Sager lists that as an option.

Is there a good reason why Sager isn't offering the Sharp display with the P650SG?

Bad news, although not entirely unexpected, from Power Notebooks.

Despite listing the Sharp 4K screen as an option on their website, I get this email from them this morning:

"Unfortunately Sager just informed us this morning that the Sharp IGZO 4K QFHD Screen is not available on the Sager NP8652. It is only available on the Sager NP8651."

    Son of a......

So is it because you guys are eliminating the middle man, Sager, that you are able to offer the Sharp panel?

I'm just curious because I've had two different resellers tell me the 980m isn't avaialble with the Sharp panel yet.

No one said we were getting them from Clevo directly with the Sharp panels, but sharp panels can be purchased with Money just need to know who to talk to hehe.

Please note its all subject to testing and ensuring that it won't explode, but thats the plan as we also find it to be really odd that P650SE -> Sharp Panel is good, P650SG -> Sharp panel is not good.... K that doesn't make sense

No, I get it. I'm sure the Sharp panel will work fine in the SG, I'm guessing that Sager has such a backlog of SE orders with the Sharp panel that they would rather not add to the backlog with SG orders with 4K panels. Disappointing, but whatever.

Myth, I just sent a system config to sales with a couple questions.

From a reply I received from Power Notebooks, seems its due to Sager shipping ONLY Samsung 4K panels, not because they dont fit...

The beauty of accepting Bitcoin is that you can use services like Bitpay or Coinbase and the Bitcoin gets converted in real time so there is NO risk to the reseller or business that accepts it. They can then choose to receive USD, BTC, or both (e.g. 80% cash - 20% Bitcoin).

Thanks Myth! As soon as I narrow down my requirements I'll PM you guys!

Taken from Coinbase below. As you can see, 1% fee is far more attractive than the typical 3% from credit cards and that's only after a million in sales.

I will have to confirm the CPU in Mythlogic's build since if I am already paying plenty for a PC, I want the best I can get on it. I still have yet to receive a reply from Power Notebook.

its a barrel type connector, 5.5mm outer diameter and 2.5mm inner diameter. check my FS thread in my sig where im offering a 120W PSU with the same adapter, it sports pictures of it. the same power connector is used on all P150 series laptops, as well as the P650, W230 and others :) anyone correct me if im wrong, but i think that all clevos use that same connector as long as they use psus rated 180W or lower. from 230W upwards they use a 4 pin power connector, available in male or female versions.

does it already come pre-modded and compatible with clevos? or is it a clevo 230W psu?

To all NA buyers for the 8652: I got off the phone with Power Notebooks and they are NOT the only ones with the Sharp Screen issues. The final decision for what will be available is during a meeting this Monday or so, and latest being the arrival date of the 19th.

In theory, if people order the 8651 with standard screens instead of the 4K display it comes with, those extra Sharp screens will be swapped with the 8652's since they use the same pins. Keeping my order as it has not changed.

180W PSU should be fine, only when you start OC'ing everything is where you might run into some issues, trust me the GTX 980M is plenty powerful even without any over clocking.

It would be an absolute deal breaker if I can only have 1 HDD or 2SSD's... The whole point of a dual storage system is to have programs on SSD and media on HDD.

Hmm, but NoteBook check did say that the provided 150W psu didn't seem sufficient for their 970M P505 review. They said that power consumption got as high as 200W before the CPU throttled.
