As far as I know, IGZO refers to the semiconductor material used to make thin-film transistors. It doesn't say anything about what technology is used to manipulate the liquid crystal molecules (twisted nematic, in-plane switching, vertical alignment, etc).
Specifically talking about that SHARP panel, I think you were right, it's some IPS-like technology. MVA or whatever.
-
you can always install an IPS that fits you, since that barebone uses slim Wled panels at the opposite of the older p1x0SM barebones.
Personnally i bought the best glossy ips for the p650 ^^ the spectre XT one ^^.
IGZO panels for TV/laptops won't be released before 2016 i read. -
Anyone use the mythologic financing before? I put in my application but not sure how long it will take to get back to me. I also never received any sort of confirmation regarding I applied.
-
Alternatively skip on certain features, like just get 1x8gb ram or only a regular HDD. Then upgrade them yourself later. This will save you money instead of costing you extra on interest. Unless you need the laptop with certain features right now for work to produce money (Professional gamer? not sure what else would).tfast500 likes this. -
Ya its not like I can't come up with the money its just I don't want to spend it all at once. It would help if I could make payments let's say 200 a month vs dropping 2000 all at once... I have a dirtbike for sale that once it goes will pay this off anyways. I just want the flexibility of having the option to make smaller payments and build credit that being said I am opting to upgrade overtime like u had mentioned. I think I am even going to purchase without any hard drives I have a ssd from one of my desktop rigs and also thinking I am just going to opt for the 1080p screen. Definitely want the 980m tho. I can't even look at other brands I'm set on the look of this laptop.

interesting news! my reseller Schenker/mySn changed their config pertaining to the PSU: they now offer the 180W PSU for the 970M and list a "tba" for the 980M version. maybe i wont have to upgrade to a stronger PSU myself!
makes sense if u ask me, since the available reviews found that the 150W PSU is already pretty much maxxed out under stock conditions. -

SIDE NOTE: I heavily run Linux and run lots and lots of VMs for testing and professional work. Right now, having only 16-24GiB is a major and I mean major limitation in my work. Gaming is a secondary function, as I travel heavily. Gaming notebooks usually hold the most memory for the least cost. More expensive and capable than commodity, but cheaper and smaller than typical workstation notebooks.
Trust me, I went back and forth on this for a good 10 days. When the Sager/XoticPC options didn't appear, I finally just pulled the trigger on the Clevo-Dia/Mythlogic option, based on when they are getting the units and their current order queue.Ningyo likes this. -
Either way, I'm hoping it's valid info - especially the ETA of Oct 28! -
The reason is you gain a massive 128MB L4 cache, which elevates the raw performance close to the (extreme) 4930MX - at a fraction of the price. Bargain!

The impact in those benchmarks massively over states the real world impact. At least as a 48xx chip yo you can add 400MHz through xtu.
-
Why are the sager versions taking so long to turn up for preorders.... Example: Exotic PC is losing customers by not having it up for preorder...many have already done business elsewhere. Seems like they would want to jump on the ball along with the others? Or am I missing something here?

Thanks, after so much talk about the 4710hq auto correct is trying to change all mhz figures to "200MHz"

phsew u already got me worried there for a sec

I definitely wish other sites had offered this information. I probably would have ended up making the same decision (Mythlogic allowed me to strip it down almost completely, other sites didn't let me do so with the models they currently have, so I don't expect that I could do so with the P650) but more information always leads to more confidence in the final decision.Oranjoose likes this. -

yep, cant do anything wrong with mythlogic xotic and the others active here at NBR are very respectable as well though. choosing from the bunch in the end is just based on personal taste rather than whos got the better reputation its just sager that, as far as ive heard/read/seen here aint the best when it comes to customer service but ive never had any direct dealings with them before, so its just an observation

I'm still having troubles deciding on P651SG or P35X-CF4.
Goal is 3K+ IPS display (Matte preferred)
i7-4860HQ (not sure why US sites dont have this listed for either)
GTX 980M (4GB or 8GB doesn't matter too much as native PC games do not use more normally)
Biggest issue is battery performance and cooling at this point. What do you guys think? -
to quote myself over from techinferno: come to the dark side, get an SG! do it! Do It! DO IT!
on a more serious note though....
are there any available 3K+ screen options in matte, at all? here i thought theres just glare available at this point in time. -
Certain vendors have the 3K matte screen. I know for sure the P35X has one, just not listed at all available vendors.
-
ah ok, interesting to know i generally wonder why not all screens / displays are listed with matte / glare options when theyre released. there shouldnt be any hold-up due to any technical difficulties, at least i couldnt imagine that
-
Its the same for how there SHOULD be an option for i7-4860HQ for the P651SG and P35X, but sadly I dont see it listed either. That would be one I'd opt for.
My choice will fall between the Clevo or Gigabyte depending on Cooling Performance and Battery. I've seen reviews on only the P650SE and none on the P651SG (thicker chassis) or P35X (manufacturer stated the cooling should have improved since its previous iteration). -
um...why exactly would u opt for the 4860hq instead of the 4870hq? as far as i can see theres just the 100mhz bump difference thats all....and since the 4870hq seems to be the slightly updated successor i guess it makes sense why they dont offer the 4860hq anymore...
-
The websites updated the specs again? Oh well. I'm not always on the PC to view the information. Still, the 4870HQ is not shown on any US reseller.
-
Cooling is an unknown as of this point in time as there are, as of yet, no reviews of the P35X v3.

That was a preproduction model, they seem to have fixed it. -

If I cannot have at least 3200x1800, I'd rather have something like 2560x1440, which is 2:1 1280x720, than having to settle for 2880x1620. But that's just my view. -
Also note that reviews of laptops using that panel will have some differences from the product you get, as the backlight is not part of the panel and matte coatings and such can be applied. -
Pardon my ignorance as well, just asking as much as possible before my credit comes in so I know exactly what I want to order without worry. Only downside right now for me with this is that it only offers up to 16gb vs 32, which it should be more than capable of. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
32GB would require 4 slots.

I was referring to the P650, however it looks like the P651 May support 32gb, /* begin rant and having 2 slots seems ridiculous for a 15" variant another reason why I hate the slim factors, granted yes, its cost effective to go with one model vs others, however it would be nice to see S and T versions ( slim and Thick ) for ultra portability and ultra cooling. My hands aren't so frail as to having an extra .5-1.5 lbs to lug around. Course everyone has their needs , wants, and then there's fads lol. */ End rant
My last clevo which lasted almost 5 years ( beginning of 2005 - end of 2009 ) the 9860 and 9750 were the heaviest sager ever made, and wow were they awesome to look at lol Pure aluminum and steel iirc haha. I miss those designs, however something in between is nice, and judging from everything else this is somewhat going in a good direction, however the 4 and 6 cell batteries, I just can't fathom what went through the engineers heads for that. -
-
Well I wasn't planning on ever putting more than 16gb in it so if that is case not a big deal however I thought both were 4 slots...

Intel Haswell/Broadwell (LGA-1150, BGA-1168/1364, etc... -- basically the 80/90 series of chipsets) and AMD Bulldozer and Jaguar/Puma (various Processor 15/16h models, including the full system-on-a-chip, although they are usually single-channel) actually all support 8Gb (typically 2Gib x 4-bit) IC technology. The prior Intel SandyBridge/IvyBridge (LGA-1155, etc...) and virtually all recent history AMD processors supported 4Gb (typically 1Gib x 4-bit) and Intel Clarksdale and earlier (LGA-1156, etc..) and old DDR2 AMD supported only 2Gb (typically 512Mib x 4-bit).
Support of 8Gib ICs means they can support a 64-bit Single Rank (1R) DIMM, using the typical 16 IC x 8Gib/IC configuration, of 16GiB (128Gib). So for a dual-channel, up to 64GiB is possible in dual-channel with 2R (e.g., two 1R DIMMs per channel). Yes, unregistered.
Unfortunately the 8Gb ICs are still not produced in any quantity, and the industry is still heavily 4Gib (1Gib x 4-bit) IC technology since 2010 or so. There was a serious shift in semiconductor economics after 2012, which is extremely supply-side (long story, but short story is that multi-billion-dollar fabs run on 2-3 year cycles), and the investment requires hasn't been made. I.e., most fabs are only now making the switch to offer 8Gib as they are making investments in DDR4. So this is why we see no more than 8GiB in 1R (up to 2 per channel), 16GiB in 2R (either registered, or a single DIMM per channel unregistered -- the latter of which not all mainboards recognize the required CS lines) and 32GiB in 4R (registered only).
If you see a rare 16GiB UDIMM (unregistered) out there, it's currently a 4Gib IC tech (possibly x8-bit so same number of ICs as x4-bit at half the sizing) resulting in a 128-bit "dual-rank" (2R) configuration. You usually can't use more than one of them per channel, but in a board where you only have one DIMM per channel (like SFF Mini-ITX or even SO-DIMMs in pico-ITX), they are a nice option to have.
SIDE NOTE: As always, more ranks and the required, added lines and chip selects usually limited the synchronous clock. So in DDR3 (8 bits a clock cycle), the clock will often be reduced to 133-166MHz 8DR (1066-1333MHz "equivalent") from 166-200 8DR (1333-1600MHz "equivalent), or similarly (i.e., actual industry != JEDEC standard, at least not in marketing). Registered/buffered helps reduce EMF/EMI issues (the world is still very much analog with serious issues with physics), and allows greater ranks for the equivalent clock. -

All current intel CPUs support 8GB per slot max, so you can work out the max from the number of them. -

I'm also thinking of getting the 180W AC/DC adapter instead of the 150W, even for the 25mm/970m, based on a number of things I've read.
