It's amazing how thin the panels themselves are now.

In a pinch a plastic table knife will work, just be careful not to scrape the teeth against the panel.

I know, right!? Easily the most bang-for-the-buck upgrade you can do to this laptop.

90% of the M.2 drives are still SATA. Only the Samsung to my knowledge has the 1GBs interface.

I got the Ripjaws SODIMM for someone who asked...

Can't complain about a cracked game not running as the developer intends. Often times cracked games do suffer performance issues. I haven't seen any repeated issues with this game as of yet, and the majority will be playing with uncracked, so I'd be pretty confident in saying it's because of that.

Hi guys, I've been lurking a lot around here these past few weeks, while searching for a good gaming notebook that could last some good years of use, and I finally ended with the P65xSG.

I will order mine tomorrow or the day after at most, but I can't seem to settle on a screen panel. The options I have are either the 1080p TN N156HGE-LA1 or the 3K IPS Panasonic VVX16T029D00. There's a 4K option too, but that's simply excessive. I was going at first for the 3K, as I've read the TN is sub-optimal, then I've read and see the video of HTWingnut screen replacement and thought about going down the same way.
But I've just read the discussion about LVDS and eDP signal and connection and now I'm not so sure anymore. The best for me will be a 1080p IPS, but will I be able to buy that type of panel and swap it with the TN one? Will I need some cable adapter, or will it just be not possible?

It has nothing to do with it. It is just a bad port. Check this article for a semi-solution until (hopefully) a patch fixed it.

rest assured, if you take a 1080P P650SG you can install ANY 30pins EDP IPS screen you'd like, no adapter needed.

Thanks Retron! But that Eurocom Panasonic 3k is the VVX16T029D00 model. The Australian Metabox Panasonic 3k is the VVX16T020G00 model. Anyone know what the difference (if any) is?

Unfortunately this is NOT true for a system that comes with the N156HGE-LA1 panel, which is an LVDS panel, not an eDP panel.

If the manufacturer offers an IPS upgrade, I'd take that option. Based on Mythlogic's contribution to the panel swap discussion, aftermarket upgrades from an LVDS panel to an eDP panel might not be possible.

Ordered my P651SG from MySn.eu today :D 1080p IPS panel, 980M (of course), 16gb RAM and the stock 4710HQ. I managed to nab a 1 TB 840 EVO for only €350 on Amazon France, so I'll install that and the OS myself. Can't wait!

    Just ordered mine!

    Metabox Prime P650SG
Windows OS: Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit with DVD & drivers
Display: 15.6" 3K WQHD Matte IPS Pro (2880x1620) LCD (PANASONIC VVX16T020G00 LED 3.0MM IPS Pro)
Processor: i7-4710HQ Quad Core (6MB Cache, 2.5GHz up to 3.50 GHz)
Graphics: Nvidia GeForce GTX 980M 4GB VRAM
    RAM: 16GB DDR3 1600Mhz RAM (2 x 8GB)
    M.2 mSATA 2: Crucial M500 480GB M.2 SATA3 SSD (Raid 0)
    M.2 mSATA 2: Crucial M500 480GB M.2 SATA3 SSD (Raid 0)
    HDD: + 1TB 5400RPM Storage.
WiFi: Intel 7265 AC Dual Band Wireless and Bluetooth
Warranty: 3 Year Platinum Metabox Onsite Pickup
Delivery: Free DHL Insured Air Freight

Was pretty tempted to get the Sharp 4k Panel but they didn't have it in stock (ETA 2 months!), BUT they said they could send it out right now with a 1080p IPS display and swap it over later when the Sharp panel came in for an extra $33 labour, +$88 pickup and return delivery. I dunno do you think the Sharp screen would be worth the extra effort / cost? I think the 3k Panel is meant to be pretty good...

I added Samsung 840 Evo 1TB to the cart which was priced for 349.99 on Amazon. I decided to read some review and other performance benchmarks online before I could suck it up and buy. In matter of few hours, the price jumped to 377.99!!!

Check the wireless bands with the country you live in. They differ all over the world. Ask BM what the compatible bands are and check what bands are used by the mobile companies in the country you're in. It's hard to say without knowing that.

This is the reply i got from CLEVO.

"Could you contact with SAGER you bouth the laptop does it support 4G. if not support you can't use, becuase support 4G function is belong to factory option.
if you bought the laptop is without 4G function. even ypu put the 4G card on on the Main board the function still can' work yet. becusae with /without 4G the M/B is different."

I GOT IT FROM XOTICPC.COM, there is nothing listed as factory option for 4G listed at all?!
Do they know what they are selling at all, i mean XOTICPC and SAGER?

We´ve had this info before, it indeed seems to be the case that once u choose a model without installed modem you cannot upgrade it later on by urself. So either include it in your order right away or live with the fact that ull have to use an external dongle down the road ;)

definitely go with the sharp, if possible. the samsung has been found to be running at 48Hz according to Y50 users and also uses an RGBW matrix, thus reducing the actual "real" resolution to below 4K. the sharp model doesnt have those restrictions ;)

Just a quick heads up Aether, I am purchasing my SG's from Kong Computers. I was going to change orders to move up to the Sharp 4K screen, however metabox actually doesn't actually stock it and will specially order upon request - so if you were to order, metabox has given an ETA of about 4 weeks.

Otherwise what you can do is order with whichever screen and when the 4k panels do come in you can send the laptop back to metabox for them to swap, you pay the difference in price for monitors as they take the panel back and 2 way delivery from Sydney is $88 + $30 labour charge. Which I will most likely do sometime next year, as I am in no rush.

I have also confirmed with Kris at Kong Computers that if you were to change the panel yourself, you will void your warranty. If you send it back to them warranty is still retained.

Kris has provided amazing customer service and their current December promos is real good! Promo #4 is best I think -Crucial M.2 480gb + 1TB 5400 hdd + 3year warranty for $169.

Hey kingyr, thanks for the reply :)

Have placed my order with Kong computers for the P650SG with the Sharp 4K screen, I understand that there maybe a 4 week delay...but in no rush, will get the most out of my P150EM in the meantime ;)

Yes they have some great promotions on at the moment, but decided to go with Promotion #2, only reason being is that I want to get a 1TB Samsung EVO SSD in conjunction with my 500GB Samsung EVO I already have ...msy.com.au has them for a great price. Will use the crucial 240GB mSata from the promotion as my boot/windows drive :)

    Cheers,

I'm with you and waiting for the SG model as well my only decision is to either stick with my usual 15" laptop or go big with the 17" model.
Would love to have the 17" model but it seems 15" always have better screen options.I just hope the 17" model has a very good screen.
