I'm torn between the display options offered.

Budget won't stretch to the 4k option so I'm looking at the 1080 screens are they all the same?

Whilst a higher res display would be nice I can't justify the extra cost.

PC Specialist offer 15.6" Matte Full HD LED Widescreen (1920x1080)

    Scan offer: LN60599 4GB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980M, 1038MHz GPU, 1536 Cores, 5000MHz RAM with FullHD 1920 x 1080 screen

Does anyone know if there is any difference between these panels

    Thanks

    I

Those are probably the stock TN panel, to make sure what screen they stock just contact the reseller to be sure.

Both sellers use TN 1080p panels. I asked from scan and they confirmed only 4K sharp panel is IPS.

Thanks... I was being an idiot.. I want to avoid the TN panels as the reviews are great. I've played around with the config and can squeeze in a 3k display from pc specialist.

Got a response (kind of) from Scan. Sounds rather ominous. Still holding onto hope for now, but I must make up a backup plan if 48Hz is confirmed. It'll likely take a few days for funds to return to my bank upon cancelling my preorder. Then I must immediately preorder from either mySN and their 1080p IPS display or pcspecialist and their 3K IPS display - most likely the latter.

I will be installing Windows first, then Crysis, then taking pics of the sunrise scene with the old screen, then doing the replacement and taking the same pics with the new screen.

However... that might not be today. The laptop arrived bent at the back, with some of the plastic parts popped off. :(

I need to talk to LPC-Digital to see what my options are before I do anything. I haven't even turned the system on to see if it's still functional.

I'm hoping I can begin the install on this system while they ship me a new one, then swap the SSD and send back this one. Somehow I doubt that's what'll happen, though :(

Looks like it took a hard hit during transit, either that or LPC has terrible quality control. I'm going to assume it's the former. Either way, sucks to see that!

It was sent straight from Sager, so I'm not holding LPC Digital responsible for this one.

What kills me is that bends like this were why I ended up choosing not to get a Gigabyte P35!

So sorry about this. Yes it was sent direct from Sager in this case. It most likely was not handled right when UPS did the delivery.

We are on top of this. :)

Yep, I trust you guys to get it figured out. Disappointed that I'll have to wait even longer, now, but it's hard to trust the future integrity of the machine when it comes out of the box like that.

Well, yeah, that too :D But I was willing to reconsider, even with the price, for the supposedly strengthened redesign with the 980m.

Not like I could afford it anyway, but still...

First post on this forum! Yeeey

I'm planning to buy the P650SE and a separate M.2 SSD since the retailer already is selling it with a 1TB HD. Any recommendation on a good M.2 SSD that fits? I really have no idea about good M.2 SSDs.

    Intel 530?
    or
    Crucial M500?

I'm also planning to replace the TN panel some time in the future. Really looking forward to getting this model and finally let go of my macbook pro (even though it's been doing a hell of a job the past four years)

Good question - no, it doesn't look like there actually are any screws. Looks like the bezel might be a snap-on type of thing.

it's pretty simple based on the picture i saw just like the MSI GS70/GS60, an easily removable bezel, good to know. But let's not judge the easiness of changing the screen on just a picture :).

Does anyone know if this screen will be an exact fit? It's the 3K screen from Panasonic. I think this is more practical than 4K. Price aside, 4K is simply too high of a resolution on 15" IMO.

No, it's just not a finished page per the URL for the link you provided. Once the page is finished and the information is accurate you won't need to google search for it, you'll be able to navigate to it directly from their website. Until it's listed there it's not officially released.

There is a huge difference between legacy AHCI and random access NVMe, especially for what nearly all benchmarks don't show. Clock equivalents and maximum data transfer rates are nice, but I don't live in that world.

970M = for noob only, a cheap piece of junk that can "run" all future games

980M for smart advanced people, can actually run all future games.

AHCI has a satisfying latency in my point of view, i buy my computer for CAD, programming, games, 3D modelisation. Again it all depends on what you're expecting from a computer, i could say that next year the 1080M will have better FPS, but if i keep pusinh the wait, i'll end up with no laptop for ever ^^.

Ouch! It doesn't feel good to see brand new laptop with some body damage, it kills the excitement :(

Can't blame LPC here as they did not ship out the laptop. They only fulfilled the order. It is more of Sager's quality control that is to be questioned here.

Yeah, I'm quite "constrained" too, but I want the 980M so much... I'm just wondering if it's worth the price difference!

Btw, since you at least got your laptop... I'll be using it most of the time at office with an Ethernet cable. With the Ethernet port is located at middle-right, do you think it's going to be uncomfortable to work with an external mouse?

    "Shots Fired!"

hahaha, but I think that for 1080p the 970m is more than enough for me personally. I mainly do Dota 2, WoW, and video editing with premiere pro. the 20% gain isn't worth the extra 250 bucks or whatever. And, for Adobe Premiere Pro, this 4710hq is going to be wayyyy more of a bottleneck than a 970m vs 980m... But yea I know what you mean about having the 980m... it's a juicy . I've got the p35x v3 with 3k screen and I love it. Now I just want a cheaper, brandless comp without scaling issues for Premiere pro. For the 4k screen though, definitely would need that 980m :D

It depends what your priorities are, really. Mine were to have a thin and light system, and so even if I could have afforded it I think I would not have gone with the 980m. Now that I see the system, though... maybe that 3mm isn't such a big deal after all, if you can afford it. It certainly would improve gaming performance!

That's going to depend on the size of your desk and the size of the mouse. The port is sufficiently far back from the front edge that you'll have some room to move the mouse around, but the cable definitely could get in the way if there's not a lot of room available.

Just wanted to share my experience in ordering this laptop from Eurocom (M5 Pro). I went with Eurocom because I wanted the 1080p IPS screen and I couldn't find it offered anywhere else in the US. I ordered it on the 10th with the only component upgraded from the default configuration being the Intel 7265 wireless card. On the 12th I received an email stating that due to delays in receiving the Intel 7265 card, they removed that option from the website and were just going to use the default Realtek card. They also informed me that ground shipping to Hawaii is not available and the shipping charge was going to be adjusted to $106. I was not alarmed by this as other retailers will insist on shipping either 2 day air or overnight to Hawaii. This put the total cost of the laptop to $1481.

Today I inquired as to the status of my order. I was told the laptop had shipped and was given the tracking number. The tracker indicated that the laptop shipped on the 14th, was estimated to arrive on the 24th and was shipped via FedEx ground. As of the 18th, the laptop had left Ohio. I emailed to ask if the shipping charge had changed from the previous email as the tracker indicated that it was shipped FedEx ground. Eurocom replied that the shipping charge is accurate.

I will say that the order fulfillment supervisor John was very prompt in replying to any emails I sent, typically within 15 minutes. Some of the questions I asked was what specific IPS panel is installed in the laptop (AU OPTRONICS B156HAN01.2) and if available, what is the cost to remove the Eurocom branding (Yes, $175.)

Bottom line: If I had to purchase this laptop all over again, I would probably buy from another reseller with the TN panel and wait for the howto to replace the display myself. The option for zero defect panel guarantee, remove branding ($25 vice $175), 1 TB vice 500 GB hard drive and 2 day air shipping for less than what I paid for ground would make that decision fairly easy. Receiving an invoice or the tracking number as soon as the laptop shipped is something I would expect most resellers would do.

Gotcha - my bad, I guess I missed those words in his post. I'll redirect my reaction to him, instead :)

And I guess he was referring to the 970m, not to the P650SE, so we can go light on him, too.

These are the questions I asked myself when considering the 970m vs the 980m:

    -Am I getting a) 1080p or b) 3/4k?
-Do I want to base my system off whether or not it can play Crysis 3 max with average a) 31fps or b) 42fps?
-Am I okay with the extra thickness?
-Am I okay with waiting another month?
-Do I actually NEED the 980m vs the 970m? What games am I playing the most?
-Do I want the psychological satisfaction of knowing that I have the best mobile graphics card on the market?
-Is just that satisfaction worth $250 dollars? Or are there other pragmatic reasons why I would need the 980m?

The wait time was prolly the largest factor for me, along with 1080p screen, which was why I opted for the 970m. But you know, different strokes for different folks.

LPC is like XoticPC or PowerNotebooks, or other Sager resellers. The laptops come direct from Sager. It is a Sager or UPS/FedEx issue. Don't blame the middle man. They are the ones that take care of us! :)

ah, very reasonable points indeed my friend. but uve forgotten the most important of all: overclocking!

    - would i like to squeeze out every bit of performance i can get my hands on in order to barely reach stock 980M levels or do i want to go all out and increase the gap to the second fastest GPU on the market to a total of at least 50%?

(that, of course, has NOTHING to do with reason, but rather satisfying that annoying little itch, which every single one of us has up his/her butt.... yeaaaah, u know exactly what im talking about, admit it biatch! :p)
