Because if it's not 60Hz I'm not interested. Scan rep is asking whether NVIDIA Optimus limits the display to 48Hz with 4K panels.

4GB's of VRAM is fine for most games now, it's some un-optimized console ports that use lots of it.
Saying that tomorrow's more demanding games will probably start using more so in general more is better but you should be fine with 4GB's.Major_Hazzard likes this. -

M600 OEM only model. Performance identical to mx100. -

I.e., I heard the Crucial m600 model was hitting the market this month, and knew it was OEM-only, but I had not yet seen a system integrator with them ...
Until I hit the Eurocom configure page. They are the first one I've seen with them.
Yes, the MX100 and m600 both use the same MLC chips, but that's not uncommon with multiple lines from the same manufacturer or OEM. But there are several differences in the design of each. -

Whether I get any work done tomorrow is another question -
I always have signature required packages sent to work. The mailroom signs for it and drops it off at my desk.

I'm already getting pre-emptive 980M withdrawal symptoms. Hopefully Far Cry 4 will help me forget about what will happen on Thursday.

Unfortunately my P505 will probably not arrive this week. Schenker are quoting Tuesday at the latest (due to many orders for this product and there's a public holiday on Thursday), which if true will mark exactly 2 weeks from the date of my order to delivery. A bit longer than I expected, particularly as it'll mean I miss this weekend, which means it automatically misses my birthday as it was a gift to myself. Really annoyed at the fact every possible laptop I've wanted has been delayed in some form or another over the last few weeks, but at least judging by the various threads on the P505/P651SE I can at least look forward to receiving a quality product when it does come. And on the other hand, I do appreciate that the P505 will undergo rigorous testing for quality control before dispatch which adds time. So for now, I am just sitting patiently once again.

Finally pulled the trigger, got the 970M version from Scan UK with a 1TB HDD + 250GB Samsung EVO SSD. Also comes with Assassins Creed Unity/Far Cry 4/The Crew and was £1187, which is not bad considering that's including VAT. Should get it in the first week of December is the only draw back, but I've waited this long I can wait another week or two and it saves me a little more money on the side.
TN Panel is annoying but will consider a replacement depending on exactly how good/bad it is. -
-
Because I've returned my Gigabyte (with which I got AC Unity with the game code from OC UK) and Scan are part of the NVIDIA promotion with my forthcoming LG1520, it'll mean that I'll have all 3 games in that package for merely £8.49. I won a £30 Amazon voucher, which I spent on FC4. Not bad

Does anyone know where to buy a Sharp LQ156D1JX01B panel separate from the laptop (60 Hz, RGB Stripe IGZO, ~100% sRGB Gamut)?
I want a 4K Sharp 980M with no drives (I have a spare 500 GB 850 Evo and an unused 8.1 install).
I STRONGLY want to be able to purchase via Amazon.
In the USA
Dia offers the laptop as I want it, but they do not offer payments via Amazon.
XoticPC does not offer the 980m 651
Eurocom has the Samsung LTN156FL02-L01 (48 Hz, RGBW), not the Sharp panel
Thanks crew -
Disregard Re- Eurocom - I Just received reply !
1 - What is the 4K screen Make (Sharp LQ156D1JX01B or Samsung LTN156FL02-L01)?
---4K panel is Samsung
2 - can this configuration be ordered via Amazon (I see Eurocom does offer laptops via Amazon)?
---Yes we can order via Amazon.com

2nd Email:

The Samsung is a 48 hz RGBW panel (1/2 of the pixels are white)
---Yes, we will offer 4K Sharp and 3K Panasonic VV16T029D00 with GTX 980M based M5 Pro model.
---Delivery is early December.
3rd Email:
what (if any) price premium does the Sharp LQ156D1JX01B carry over the Samsung LTN156FL02-L01
4K Sharp is approx $120 higher over 4K Samsung -

My eyes are melting with happiness, love and rainbows.
Also; Samsung is 48Hz? Phew, bullet dodged. pcspecialist advertise it as 60Hz. And not true RGB? Glad I've gone with the Sharp display.
It's gonna be one hell of a Christmas present -

That is one sexy as hell finish <3 I almost want to buy it for looks alone! Here's hoping there will be a brushed metal finish available for the p7x0zm as well.

aaaaaah dunno, id still go for the sandblasted chassis tbh, kind of sleeker that way (and less prone to fingerprints)
are we sure that this aint just placeholder pics copied over from the SE page? doesnt really look any thicker to me...
then again, that 3-4 mm difference may not even be visible in those marketing pics -
If I had the money and it were available, I'd definitely be considering the P650SG with the Sharp 4K and the 4870HQ (for Iris Pro and guaranteed 60Hz).jaybee83 likes this. -
May be the 17" version
-
SG version certainly look fatter. Thanx for the pic

Anyone already posted about this?
P67XSG is almost identical in its thickness to the P65XSG; 30mm vs 29mm respectively. It weighs 3.2kg vs 2.5kg for the P65XSG -> 17" gaming laptop with NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970M or 980M - 3XS
ETA December. -
Just curious, if you are getting a 17' model, why does thickness/weight matter? It's already too big to carry around for school so since you won't be carrying it DAILY, why does it matter?
-
I wonder what the price difference between P65 and the P67 (SG versions) will work out to in the US.
Hrmm. I think my budget's just about maxed out with the P65 -
So is it safe to say there will be no sanded blasted version in the US for a while if ever? Really like the look of it and the less finger prints.
-
I would rather a dull matte finish then a brushed shiny finish any day. -
will be adding the SG pics to the OP shortly
-
However, the fact that the MSI and Lenovo laptops which use that screen are limited to 48Hz was enough to put me off. (It was blamed on Intel, but I really doubt that - the fact that the Samsung spec sheet mentions a 48Hz clock is too much of a coincidence!)
The "mustardy yellow" issue is also widely reported with that panel on the Lenovo, but it's unclear whether Lenovo's firmware is to blame or whether it's the LED controller that's built into the panel that's at fault. -
Jaybee, thanks for keeping the OP up to date. I'm sure I'm not the only one who appreciates that!

I'm almost at the point of cancelling my order and just continuing to limp along with my temporary Lenovo Thinkpad, waiting for the successor to the P65x products next year. I.e.,
- Intel 90 series chipset, including more complete NVMe support
- Intel 5000 series GPUs, with improvements for nVidia Optimus et al.
- 1TB M.2 2280 NAND devices (possibly with new NVMe support)
I see the 1TB mSATA (30x50mm) devices are now available, so I suspect the 1TB M.2 SATA 2280 (22x80mm) devices will follow shortly. Most are TLC, but the MLCs seem to be also making their way to mSATA now.
Hynix has also produced new 1TB M.2 2280 reference designs, including a PCIe 3.0 x4 device with alleged NVMe support. I say "alleged" NVMe support because not everything might be there in the chipset, firmware, OS, etc... to support it end-to-end. There's still a lot of development, let alone optimization, left to do in most NVMe implementations at various levels. -
the wait in the computer world is plain stupid, anything will be improved next year, and next next year, and in Three years etc.
Nvidia optimus works like a charm with the HD4600.
Our SSD through PCIe run very well too I don't see the point : M.2 will be developped during 2015, no need to wait for the intel 90 -
Yeah, waiting for the perfect laptop will be just that... waiting. It seems there's never that perfect mix of components and technologies, you have to pick the best compromise that works for you.

I'll finally get to see if the facets and chopped corners bother me as much in person as they do in photos. I guess either way I'll have to get used to them - there's no other way to fit this much machine into my tiny budget.
So excited - my first real gaming notebook ever! -
Same here, I'm not even kidding when I say my current and only system is a Compaq Presario laptop with Intel B970, with Intel Graphics HD 2500. I can only really play Tropico 1 and Counterstrike 1.6. Just Cause 2 is excruciating but I make it work with nearly the lowest resolution and all graphics low/off.
I have been waiting YEARS to buy a proper gaming desktop/laptop. In 2008, couldn't buy a laptop due to being a broke student. 2009 and 2010, same story. 2011, a broke graduate. 2012 and 2013 had to pay down some significant debts. mid-2014: finally possible for me to divert funds towards a proper gaming laptop but the laptops I wanted were always out of stock or delayed or whatever. We are nearly 2015. Not a day went by during those years where I wasn't reading Tomshardware or Ananadtech. When I say I was waiting since 2008, I really do mean waiting!
edit: I should mention, the only reason I have my current laptop is because in 2012 I needed something to type on so I bought the bare minimum at the time, from an Australian store, the Compaq set me back the equivalent of only £150. -
