Still for exW230 owner was there a difference between a 47XX or a 48XX speaking of temps ? Because in that case i'm hesitating between the 4710 or the 4870 (with the iris 5200 )

The faster a chip runs the hotter it will be, however at the extreme range both will throttle to 47W, the 4810 may sit a bin or two higher as a slightly better sample.
-
4810 would be really nice too bad its not an option, 4870 just has a higher boost clock than the 4710 and has the near useless iris pro graphics (come on you have a 970m or 980m). 4770 is an even more useless option same as the 4710 but hundreds of dollars more for a IGPU that will nearly never get used.
Don't get me wrong on a laptop with no dedicated graphic, the Iris pro is rather awesome. But if you have a real GPU then its just a waste of money. -
I wonder if the steelseries keyboard can be fitted in these laptops. Would be a great option to have.
-
but i guess BGA cpu meant Clevo has to make a call on which motherboard to produce in quantities with the cpu +gpu combination.
i guess 4710 was chosen based on market research and price. they didnt think 4810 would sell in quantities to bother producing them. -
I thought making a decision and placing an order would allow me to relax and stop stressing... not so much! I still have to wait until Friday to be able to pay, and then wait who knows how long for delivery after that! I'm hoping I don't dislike the look as much in person as I do in pictures... but functionality over form, here. No other way I'm getting a 970m into my budget.
This is gonna be a long 2+ weeks -
I personally love the way this laptop looks I hate gody showy flashy designs that's why I'm set on a sager. I want minimalist style that has a lot going on under the hood. I really wish this model had the larger vram I'm still hung up over that and it just irritates me... I know it prob won't even make a difference to me since I tend to play older games. However I do want something that will last me years to come... I want to play open world games like dayz, 7days to die, and h1z1 which should all run high settings without issue anyways.
Its more of a psychological delimma for me. To have best bang for my buck 8gb vram vs 4gb ... The trade off here is I get a lighter thinner laptop with IPS screen which is some of my top priorities.
I talk myself in and out of this choice on an hourly basis I guess I really won't know what I am going to purchase until I get more feedback from the early adopters on this site. So I am definitely eager to hear what you guys think when you actually get your hands on it -
i for one just looooove the looks, very sexy machine indeed -
double post sorry
-
So i'm going with a 4710HQ, still hesitating between a fangbook edge 970M 6Gig and the P65xSG....I do not change notebooks everyday and especially with a BGA socket I'm wondering if I'm going to regret it if it throttles...
I mean I do play CPU intensive games like Arma 3, and I do plan to buy Civilisation Beyond Earth...I'm really hesitating. I think I'm going to check more reviews of slim gaming notebooks in general ^^ before deciding.
For now it will be a 4710+980M clevo P651SG -
-
I like it when it's not a boring business ibm like PC and when it's not a flashy full of led laptop, an equilibrum.

You think w/ the addition of the 4870HQ they'll add the 8GB variant for the 980M? I can't imagine running the 980 w/ the 4710 w/o running into a possible bottleneck later. -

That said, should I wait for the Sager NP865x models to hit XoticPC? Or have you guys had good luck with resellers in the US like the Clevo at Mythlogic?
My Asus G73jw just went belly-up last month, and I'm looking for something, like yesterday. I was going to go with the Sager NP8258 (Clevo P150SM-A), until I read about the NP865x/P65x.
I really just don't want to drop money on an older notebook, let alone stuck at only 1080p, as desktop space is a premium. Other than gaming, where I can downscale (e.g., 4K -> 1080p), I run Linux with GNOME Shell which looks good at 4K (better than Windows 8.1, and a heck of a lot better than Windows 7).
So, given I want something yesterday, I don't mind going with the first NP865x/P65x model that becomes available. A lower-spec i7 and 970m 3GiB is just fine, as long as I can get a 4K panel and in that nice, new sub-1" form-factor.
So ... back to considering Mythlogic for the P65x. Or just give it time for the Sager via XoticPC? -
@lunap: im not aware of any 980M version in the P65xSx series thats gonna sport the 8GB vram, but im also open for surprises in that department
@bjsmith: i dont think u can do anything wrong when choosing either mythlogic or xoticpc, theyre both reputable sager (xotic) / clevo (myth) resellers -
Mythlogic seems to have a great reputation here on this forum, so I have no worries about my choice, but others like xoticpc and gentech also have excellent reputations, so if you're less worried about stripping the machine down like I did, I'm sure they are excellent choices.
Edit: I say "semi-slim" because even though the P65XSE is slimmer than all but 2 15" 970m-equipped models (GS60, P35), it's actually not much slimmer than my current Dell Precision M4400.Ningyo likes this. -
Yeah semi-slim is a good description its 25mm or 29mm (1" or 1 1/8") which is thinner than an average multimedia laptop, and far thinner than an average gaming laptop. But not an ultra-thin like an Ultrabook or Razer Blade with a 15-20mm range mostly.
Mythlogic is a little smaller but has near perfect reviews, and you can pre-order now.
Xoticpc, CyberpowerPC, Ibuypower, Gentech, LPCdigital, etc... are all waiting for Sager or such to release theirs. They also tend to have excellent reviews. They will likely end up shipping at near the same time as Mythlogic, however you cannot yet pre-order from them. They may also have some different options no way to know yet. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
You don't want a 980m class system too slim anyway or its just going to throttle like mad.

There are a few places almost every laptop cooling system could improve.
Have heat-pipes go through center of radiator instead of along top: Only seen Asus g750/g751 do this though could be another. This can give FAR better heat transfer to the fins if done properly, but it is more expensive to make.
Have Cooling block contact sides of heat-pipes in addition to the bottom: a few do this like Razer Blade but its only done in a small % of gaming laptops.
I personally am very happy with the thickness of these. They are thin enough to be very portable, but they made very few sacrifices on internal components and cooling system to get them that thin.
Oh on another note, I asked a couple questions of Mythlogic since I plan to order one of these soon.
There were 2 possible 4k displays according to Clevo, Mythlogic said theirs will be 60hz so no worries about a 30-48hz Y50 type issue.
What wattage is the power supply? if under 200w can I get a 200-220w one instead?
Its 180W and no the 200W+ have different connectors so wouldn't work
(180W should be enough but in games like Crysis/BF4 people are reporting 170-180w usage on MSI GT72. It has a larger screen and likely uses a little more power in other ways. Still you might have to avoid using too many USB devices like laptop cooling pads or external HDD or charging a phone while gaming. Also very low room for over-clocking) -

I already reached out to XoticPC prior on the NP8258, but if Mythlogic can give me a good date or at least my order in the queue, I might go with them since they have the configurations up for their Dia 1614 (Clevo P650Sx), allegedly shipping at the end of the month.
With that said ... what's everyone been doing on 2-3 year warranties and/or accidental damage warranties? I've generally just taken the typical 2/1 year Asus policy in the past, but never had to use it. -
well thats always the best case scenario, when u dont have to use ur warranty never had problems either as long as i switched machines inside of 2 years max, but once it passes the 2 year mark and u wanna keep ur rig, its definitely better to be covered!
-
I couldn't afford to extend my warranty this time, but I've always gone with 3-year warranties from Dell, and while I didn't need to use it on my first laptop, a Latitude D600, it really came through for me on this one, the Precision M4400. I've had the entire motherboard replaced at least twice, usually for something silly like accidental damage breaking the power or USB ports.
I guess I'll have to be extra careful with the P650SE, and hope that if things are going to fail, they'll do it within the first year. -
Thinking of upgrading from my p150em i have atm with a i7410Qm, 680m and 16gb ram to this

i will be transfering over my 500gb ssd from the p150em to the p650se, but i have a few concerns, will this be much of an upgrade and also is the sound quality as good or better than the p150em as that model has a subwoofer (not that i think it does anything) and is there any throttling, and how does it compare to this model GIGABYTE P35X v3-CF1 (Ultraforce Extreme), 15.6" WQHD+ Anti-Glare, Wide Viewing Angle, Intel Core i7-4860HQ, 16GB DDR3L, 2x128GB mSSD + 1TB 7200rpm HDD, NVIDIA GTX980M 8GB GDDR5 - Windows 8.1 [P35X V3-CF1] the prices for each build is £1347 for the p650se and £1800 for the p35w. And how does the battery life do im not in need of 6hrs plus but id like to keep about the same as the p150em.
or would it be best simple to get a upgraded p150em model with a 980m etc? -
Maybe I've gotten the wrong impression of Clevo/Sager - I thought the whole point of MXM was that you'd be able to upgrade your GPU at a later date? So couldn't you get a 980m MXM card for ~$700 from rjtech and keep the rest of the system?
Either way, to me it doesn't seem like that much of an upgrade, but if you've got the money and feel the need, unless you specifically want the slimmer model, you might be better off getting an updated p150em or equivalent. For example, the Sager NP8268-S specs out at ~£1400 w/VAT on pcspecialist with those specs. -

hm looks like theyre only offering the brushed 650 version. also, theyre wrongly listing msata options
-
Multicom Kunshan P651S 15.6" QFHD 3840x2160, Intel Core i7-4710HQ, 16GB, 240GB SSD + 1TB 7200rpm, GeForce GTX 970M 3GB, Uten operativsystem, 25mm tynn / MULTICOM
Can anyone confirm if the 8-cell battery is legit? If so, I really want to opt for this one. -
as i already mentioned in the other thread, i think thats a typo since the battery life is still listed at 250 min, same as all other sites with the stock 60Wh battery...
already had a site listing msata ports in the P65xSx, doesnt mean it has those either though -
-
yeah, clevo gpu upgrades are hit or miss with each model. alienware is more open in terms of bios, thus offer a higher chance of gpu upgrades, but then again, they also cost a LOT more

We'll most likely have the 4870HQ, but that'll be more near thanksgiving time. Hopefully (not set in stone, don't quote this post, its not gospel, etc )

Wish I could have waited for, and afforded, this upgrade. Would have helped make it just a bit more future-proof.tfast500 likes this. -
Does it make that much of a difference? In real world application to have the 4870 over the 4710... Or will benchmarks be the only indicator?
-
The 4870HQ does have Iris Pro for an integrated GPU, for what thats worth, but then again thats what that 970/980 is forNingyo likes this. -
Clevo p65xSx suspected possible CPU choices
CPU = base clock - boost =
i7-4710hq = 2500 - 3500 = HD4600 = cheap and good
i7-4770hq = 2200 ‑ 3400 = Iris Pro = DO NOT GET THIS it is worse than a i7-4710 but pricier
i7-4870hq = 2500 ‑ 3700 = Iris Pro = a i7-4710 with higher boost higher heat will possibly reduce average speed though likely about even overall performance to the i7-4710 but for a lot more money
Also theoretically
i7-4980hq = 2800 ‑ 4000 = Iris Pro = actually a step up, about the equivalent of a i7-4810 but with higher boost
Unfortunately the by far best options the i7-4810hq, or i7-4910hq are not available and there have been no hints of them becoming available.
The i7-4770, and i7-4870 are extremely stupid to offer in a laptop with a discrete GPU, you are paying a lot of money for the Iris Pro graphics option that you will very rarely or possibly never use. They are good options for tiny laptops with no discrete GPU but should never have been put in a laptop like this. -
-
-
I can't guarantee no-one should ever get it with a i7-4870hq, but you should get other expensive items like a "Samsung 512GB XP941 m.2 PCIe x4 Solid Sate Drive +$610.50" or "Samsung 1TB 850 PRO Series SATA III 6Gb/s Solid State Drive +$749.25" first. Going over 1600mhz RAM or over 16gb also tends to not be worth it, but probably should be done before getting the i7-4870.
I would strongly advise skipping it and spending that money on either a better SSD, or Software. -
Don't get me wrong, I'm still quite excited about fitting a 970m into my budget -
The more I way my options the more I am falling for this device I am 80% set on this. I'm thinking the 980m version tho. I simply love the design and overall look of it. I like the clipped corners it makes it have a mean look to it.
-
And although I don't particularly like the clipped corners, I have to say I do think it still looks a LOT better than the Alienware and the MSI GT72 (and others?) with the front wedge. -

Is the only difference between P650 and P651 the finishing on the laptop? One is sand and the other is brush aluminum?
