Hi can anyone tell me the diff between XMG P505 vs Sager vs Clevo equivalents? Are they all the same just branding difference? Which one do you recommend me to get?

Does anyone else not have the "Time remaining" display when clicking the battery icon? That is really annoying not being able to see how much time I have left.

I ordered my Sager NP8652 (Clevo P650SG) today from XoticPC.

Is there a post that has a general checklist of things to do when setting up this laptop?

If getting it with an OS installed the checklist consists of turning it on and using it :)

If you wanted to through and confirm all the hardware, HWinfo64 is a good utility to do so. Would also allow you to check your temps and such.

After some trepidation, I've finally "pulled the trigger" and have just ordered an XMG P505 (a rebranded Clevo P651SE)!

I'm going to source 16Gb RAM elsewhere (cheaper and more choice - probably Kingston HyperX 1866Mz), but the spec I've ordered is:
    • 15.6" (39.6cm") Full-HD AU B156HAN01.2 (1920*1080) Matte IPS (100% sRGB)
    • NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970M 3072MB GDDR5
    • Intel Core i7-4720HQ Quad Core - 2.60 - 3.60GHz 6MB 47W
    • 4GB (1x4096) SO-DIMM DDR3 RAM 1600MHz Crucial
    • 1000GB SATA-III SSD Samsung 850 EVO Series (MZ-75E120B)
    • Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 7265 (with Bluetooth)
    • Standard Warranty : 24 Month Collect & Return (inc parts, labour, support, shipping)
Looking forward to receiving it, early next week, hopefully! I'll probably be here with more questions then!

It's going to dwarf my little 13" Macbook Air (which I will probably be keeping for when I want to travel light)!

You'd want to contact your reseller for exact information. Sager doesn't always ship with the latest available from Clevo as they use their latest stable. Updating BIOS typically isn't necessary unless you're experiencing an issue specifically addressed in the changelog of the BIOS update.

So I just ordered now my machine....and right now I'm really pissed

Sadly I asked for an unbranded one from my reseller a few weeks ago when he said he would receive new stock and today he told me that he forgot to leave one unbranded for me and he only has branded ones in stock but that he'll take off the sticker.

Now I'm a bit of a sad panda as I'm really O.C.D. about my gadgets and I'd hate to receive it with any imperfections.....

I asked to get a picture of the machine after they take off their sticker but I don't really know if I'll be able to see something or not in the picture.

I'd really hate to have to send it back because of this...

Do you mean the Nvidia, Sandblaster, HDMI and Intel stickers? Or the brand, like "Eurocom", "XMG" etc.? I'm assuming the XMG P505 I've just ordered is going to be covered in the former, but can't they just be pealed off and the residue removed with Isopropyl Alcohol? I hope so, as I want to remove mine (maybe not the Intel one).

Has anyone tried this, and did it work without permanently marking the laptop?

They're easily removed and as they're just stickers will not physically alter the chassis. If you have specific concerns just address them with the reseller and I'm sure they'll tell you one way or another whether they'll be able to help or not.

    Nope...I mean the brand sticker.

From my previous experience sticker glue does not disolve with Isopropyl.

@Jinx & oxford-guy: no worries on the sticker front, mates! the very first thing i did with my machine upon receiving and unpacking it was to remove the stickers. went down smoothly and without any residue left whatsoever :) didnt even need any cleaning agent, just peeled them right off using my fingers :p rule of thumb: the fresher the sticker application is, the easier is the removal! on my previous rig i only did it after like 1-2 years with lots of glue residue left that was a PITA to completely get rid off...

It sounds like they offered to remove the residue for you. They'd have the means to do so. But again voice your concerns to them directly and I'm sure they'll tell you what they can and cant' do, especially if you say it threatens return if not done.

Mine doesn't have a brand sticker, just "XMG" laser etched on the back, which I think looks quite nice: http://www.xmg.gg/p505/img/04_XMG_P505_left_back.png

This model also has the satin sandblasted finish, not brushed

Hi guys, I come back from re-installing Win 7 and all the drivers with no success in detecting the External Monitor via HDMI Cable. Next steps will be to connect to a different TV with different cables to see if it is somehow related to cables and specific tvs. Is there a way for me to see if HDMI drivers are in place and if it detects that there's an hdmi output?
    Thanks for the help btw,

    Tjanks for the advice Derek.

I was just answering to Oxford about the use of alcohol as he suggested to use that.

The retailer did offer to remove their brand sticker and told me there would be no residue.

Also I asked him to take a photo after it will be off and he promised he would send one tomorrow.

I guess I'll just have to wait and see.

There's nothing really I can do right now....but I just felt the need to express my frustration.

BTW does anyone have any recommendations for a decent laptop sleeve for the P65xSE that fits fairly snuggly? Too many laptop sleeves I've seen seem very loose on non-Macbooks. My Macbook Air has a lovely snug fit leather sleeve my Joli Originals, however something like that isn't going to work with something big like the P65xSE. My wife has my old 15.4" Macbook Pro which has a sturdy and protective zippered LA robe Volute sleeve/case, which has the zipped hidden behind fabric so that it doesn't scratch the computer - I was thinking something more like that.

I don't want a carry strap or anything, just a pretty minimal protective sleeve to carry in a messenger bag. Budget up to about £30. Perhaps a little bit sturdier than neoprene. Any suggestions?

I guess because Macs are a standard shape and size and there's lots of them, they're easier to get a good-fitting sleeve/case for!

    @Oxford_Guy

Someone was talking about a(zippered) sleeve from case logic that had a litlle bit of padding and fit great.

    I don't remember where though..

P.S. i was thinking to get the sandblasted one also but unfortunately it was arround 60€ more expensive...
I guess because my retailer is importing from clevo germany and XMG has dibs on alot of the sandblasted ones so they are in bigger demand

Got a new toy today; the Logitech G602 mouse. I highly recommend it! It's wireless and I can't tell the difference between it and my wired Razer mouse.
Feels great in the hand, weight is nice and materials are high quality. Supposedly the battery lasts a ridiculous amount of time but I have yet to test that out.

I kept the Lenovo sleeves that came with my Lenovo W520 and W530 laptops. They fit my NP8651 very snugly. The W520 and W530 are thicker but the NP8651 is wider and longer. It all evens out for a nice snug fit. You can buy these online from Lenovo or other vendor. They hold up for years really well. I bought a caselogic sleeve for a 17 inch monitor to double wrap my laptop when traveling.

I have the 1080p IPS panel. I have not noticed any ghosting. I was playing a game at various fps from 30 to 111 and I did see some tearing at the higher fps (over 100fps). I have only had my computer for 3 days and have only tested one game, but so far it looks very good.

Hurrah! Shouldn't thermal protection kick in anyway if the GPU gets too hot, so if you have sufficient cooling, why not overclock (unless you want quieter fans, so I may not overlock that much).

Thanks - is this the same as the W520/w530 sleeve? It's the only sleeve that have listed for 15" laptops: http://shop.lenovo.com/SEUILibrary/...de_menu_area=true&GroupID=460&Code=4X40E48911

I might get this, if that's the one, but does anyone have any other suggestions before I do?
