Some notebooks are poorly designed so that heat from the internals warms the battery, in these cases the heating and cooling of the machine would impact battery life. Clevo have designed theirs properly so this is not an issue so leaving it plugged in is fine.

Guys from what i've seen a few pages back, does dual channel matter so much in gaming performance? And about the i7-4720hq, will it throttle no matter what or is it possible to reach max performance?
-
Basically double channel RAM means you double the memory bandwidth so you greatly improve the performance. So if you have the choice, take 2 Sodimm stick rather than 1.
For throttling, I personally had no problem while gaming but if you want to overclock/benchmark, you might encounter some.Madworldpt likes this. -
Does anyone know if the np8651 would have issues with this ram?

It doesn't explicitly say if it's 1.5 or 1.35 volts
Thanks. -
so after all this time can someone explain to me why my iGPU only peaks at 600mhz?

Hello everyone, I just placed an order for a Clevo P650SE from Pro Star. I know about Nvidia blocking overclocking in their latest drivers but that isn't of the utmost importance to me. I look forward to receiving my machine within the next week! It'll be a nice upgrade from the 2 1/2 year old Sony Vaio listed in my sig.

I'm running latest 0306 ec&bios, can I downgrade to prema ec and stock bios?
I mean , is it safe to downgrade?Last edited: Feb 15, 2015 -
How does one remove and replace the bezel in order to remove backlight bleed on the display?

Didn't htwingnut do a video showing how to replace display?
-
so does anyone have the problem at all that their iGPU is locked to 600mhz? or is it just me... can everyone check their iGPU peak clock?
-
Thanks!
Seems my bezel may be too tight - the light bleed is reduced quite considerably with it off.
I don't know how to actually fix it though. The bezel pops into place, how tightly it fits can't be adjusted...

Wow, the 2015 XPS has an amazing screen...
Check it out: http://www.notebookcheck.net/fileadmin/Notebooks/News/_nc2/csm_P1000256_71fe305b19.jpg
Hopefully one day gaming laptops will come like this. A 15.6 screen in a 14 inch foot print would be amazing!jaybee83 likes this. -
I was asking myself the same thing recently.
Usually downgrading the EC is considered risky however there are alot of people arround that flashed Prema's Bios +EC even though their machine came with a newer EC and bios than 304.
Here's a comment on Prema's blog by Prema himself:
"Doesn’t matter if stock or Mod. You can flash EC after the Mod.
Just be careful with EC downgrades in general, it may not work with a future BIOS and brick your system.
Also keep in mind that you loose certain Hot Key App features with the old EC."
This suggests it's the incompatibility between a new BIOS and an old EC that causes the problems so since Prema's Mod flashes both of them together it shouldn't be a problem.Last edited: Feb 16, 2015 -

Hey heibk, here are my records.
As you can see graphics igpu frequency is locked @600MHz when on balanced mode, however on Performance it uses its full boost. Do you want a test on balanced with stress on the igpu?
Edit: Speaking of Igpu, when trying out Mr Fox 344.75 driver mod, I see that the 980m is always active (or the led supposed to indicate dgpu activated is always on).
Is it because I messed up the installation or because it is a desktop driver originally?Attached Files:

im guessing the latter. try and revert to a laptop driver and see if that fixes the issue. then u know its the driver

Oh I did and indeed Optimus works fine with any Nvidia driver, but since I see an Optimus folder in the modded driver extracted folder I thought it should support it... Anybody here tried this modded driver too?

i did, but my machine doesnt have optimus, so cant comment on that

I'm considering buying a rebranded P651SE (an XMG P505) from MySN - they're not the cheapest reseller, but sound reasonably reliable,
I would prefer a matte FHD 1080p IPS panel, if possible, but only if its a good one. The XMG P505 comes with this 1080p IPS panel: AU B156HAN01.2 - is this any good?
Alternatively, I could by a really barebones Clevo P650SE (no RAM or discs) from http://www.laptopplus.nl/ as would probably be cheaper to get the RAM and discs myself and to choose the ones I want. They off this with a "Matt 15.6 inch Full HD IPS LED Widescreen", but don't specify which on it is. Does anyone know anything about the 1080p screen with the version from laptopplus.nl? -
I guess the two matte 1080p options are the LG Philips LP156WF4-SLB5 and the AU B156HAN01.2 you mentioned above. The latter is supposed to have better contrast, white point and a wider color gamut BUT there have been reports from some users that it may have a lot of light bleed if you're unlucky.
I have the LG panel and while i find the light bleed to not be an issue, its in need of calibration as the white balance is far too warm and yellow - an issue which is typical of the panel in question. -

I can vouch for the AUO screen, I have it and it is one of the best FHD screen I had, colors are really vivid on it, no flaws while gaming even fast paced fps.
Letting Mr Fox's driver aside, I am having a weird issue: no matter the driver, while plugged to my external screen via HDMI port (Far cry 4, did twice the same race, FHD Ultra settings), I have the same FPS performances but frame times are usually higher, causing the game to be less smooth than when using the screen of the laptop.
Any idea where it can come from?
I tried several adjustments in game graphic settings and windows advanced display settings (refresh rate etc...) but nothing seems to affect this. Is it typical from external screen use?
Sorry if this is too noob, never played on an external screen before.Attached Files:

Anyone know how to solve the issue of the bezel being too tight and causing light bleed? Seriously, light bleed is the only real concern I have with this laptop currently. Be great if I could apply a DIY fix.

luna mentioned something about applying black electrical tape around the problematic spots, then reapplying the bezel and it should be fine...
head to the batcave for her posts regarding this -

Pro Star is selling a P650SE on Amazon with an IPS display for $1394 so I'm trying to change my order for that. It might be slightly cheaper if you pay cash and order directly from them though.

I have the same AUO B156HAN01.2 in my p650se and besides 2 sqcm in the top left corner, there is no bleed. And that bleed is visible only on deep black (mainly during boot). As other have mentioned before, it is mostly because of the bezel having a too tight grip.
-
If the bleed is caused by a tight bezel i don´t see how adding more stuff is going to help. Luna mentioned a guide/tutorial on how to do it but if iirc she never ended up posting it. -
no idea tbh, since ive never played around with screens before, just sticked to the one that came pre-installed.

Is the 4720HQ TDP locked? I remember seeing people trying to tweak with it but I can't remember if it's TDP locked. I saw someone ask an interesting question that if they underclocked their 4720HQ and lowered the TDP to 37w it would effectively be a 4722HQ.
I'm curious to try something like this and compare the pros and cons as far as thermals and performance loss. -

Hi - am considering buying a really barebones (i.e. no RAM or HDD/SDD) P650SE from http://www.laptopplus.nl/product-details/15-6-inch-clevo-p650se-p650sg-gtx-900-series as it would work out more cost-effective to buy and install these components myself, and I would have greater choice. If I did this, would I need to by an OEM Windows 8.1 license from elsewhere, and should I install all the "final" hardware before installing an OEM version of windows (i.e. if I change the hardware at all, is this going to cause problems with an OEM Windows license)?
I assume I could create a US install USB key from a copy of Windows 8.1 downloaded from Microsoft and just use the OEM license key that I buy to install it? Could there be any issues doing this? I assume I'd also need to put some extra drivers for the Clevo on the key? Are there any other potetial issues to consider? -
Some people arent patient enough for such a strategy, in their cases a 17inch bag/sleeve could indeed be the better choice for these machines

Is the Killer 1525 AC card OEM only? I'd like to purchase one to replace my intel 7265 but my google-fu is weak this morning and I can't find it for sale in the US.

The card doesn't use up the whole slot so don't let that throw you off.adampk17 likes this. -
They just need to run some check and maybe install the wifi card / repaste the gpu/cpu, if they do that themselfs. Adding the SSD + RAM myself, cheaper indeed.
- I believe windows 8.1 has all the basic drivers necessary to get started
- It's very handy if you download additional drivers and software before you get the laptop (look at topic start for dl link)
incl chipset, hotkey, wifi, nvidia drivers* etc. (dont install the new onces if you want OC, read a few pages back)
- Windows lets you replace certain parts without issues, e.g. swap /add HD... or add memory.
If i am not mistaken the key will be tied to your motherboard + hdd -
So I've gone through 3 mice on this laptop. I purchased a Tt eSports Ventus gaming mouse that was wonderful, it has a an awesome ambidextrous design and the palm rest are these large honeycomb holes to allow for airflow and reduce sweating. It certainly works, I was starting to really enjoy the feel and responsiveness of the mouse, I'd get it again if I had to buy an affordable wired gaming mouse. I unfortunately broke it thinking the vented piece comes off with a snap. It came off, but it had a screw :x
I also tried the R.A.T. M that is a hybrid USB Dongle or Bluetooth mouse. Definitely not a gaming mouse, I would advise even my worst enemy from getting this mouse. It looks awesome, its very small and extremely mobile, but extreme latency (8ms) and horrible accuracy and tracking give it a -1/10 score. Could not game let alone normal desktop usage. Sad really as the mouse was nice to use in my hand but the trackpad tracked 10000% (not exaggerating) better.
My current full timer is the Logitech G602, and what a great gaming grade wireless mouse this is. The latency is reduced to 2ms by using a 500Hz polling rate, DPI maxes out at 2500 which personally is a sweet spot for me. Tracks phenomenally and is rated to last quite a long time. 2 AA batteries are rated up to 250hrs in Performance mode, and 1400+ in endurance mode (kicks DPI down to 250), and both settings track very well.
I tried to find a gaming ready solution that was wireless and mobile to compliment the P650SE on any desk or in any scenario, the G602 is the only one I found that comes close, and in order to tick off the wireless performance checkboxes the small form factor and extremely portability takes a hit. You also loose 1 of 4 USB slots, but that would happen with any mouse since I have yet to see bluetooth performance reach these levels.
It's funny that laptops are getting so thin and sleek that more peripherals to compliment them are not being developed.
Just wanted to share some woes.omer.sak likes this. -
I'm considering replacing my W230SS with this (13.3 is too small).
Using perma mod and undervolting your P650SE- approximetly how many minutes are people able to squeeze out of it?
Thanks
