It seems there's a audio driver issues for my P650SE. The headphone jack seems to have disappeared and any headphones I plug into the jack output no sound. I can get sound out of my headphones through the speaker jack. I wonder why the playback for the headphone jack suddenly went missing. I tried rolling back the driver and re-installing Realtek HD, but it still didn't work. When I had no audio drivers installed, I could see the playback device for the headphone jack. Weird....

    Any suggestions?

Edit: Considering an RMA - there's too many issues that a new laptop shouldn't have. Constant screen tearing, faulty headphone jack, and poor construction.

A oldie but goldie just reapeared in stock in my country as an m.2 option.... the crucial m500 256gb.

What do you guys think about this drive..is it worth getting(at about the same price as a 2.5' 250 gb 850evo) or is it rather obsolete?

Why doesn't crucial release the M.2 mx200 already....the corporate equivalent Micron m600 has already been out for quite a while. :(

Could you detail the part about poor construction? You're the first one I see reading about this...most people give stellar reviews regarding the build of this laptop (except maybe sone screen flex)

Tearing is normally a software issue...not hardware.

The speaker bar (between the screen hinges) is popped up on the right side. When I try to push it down, it makes a creaking noise - I received the laptop like this.
Could the tearing be a result of my GPU being prioritized above the CPU for web-browsing? I mainly see the tearing when scrolling and I saw a horizontal tear in CS:GO a couple days ago.

Oh, and I think the headphone jack is beyond salvageable at this point. I've tried everything...

Screen tearing in CS:GO is a common issue on 60hz displays. It's not just this laptop...it's due to the fact that your video card is outputting north of 60 fps while your display can only handle 60.

Try to use adaptive vsync @ 60fps.

Can't comment on browser...maybe you're scrolling too fast and the same thing happens...gpu outputs more than 60fps and display can't handle it.

If the speaker bar is popped up just RMA it and ask for a replacement ...that's not normal and you shouldn't accept it.

I'd like to comment on the build quality. Mine is flawless, just a little screen flex but nothing major. Also, as a separate note, the stock TN Panel is absolutely garbage. TERRIBLE viewing angles, very weak colors, low brightness. I could not find anything positive in it. Resellers are better off increasing base price by a bit to make the 1080 IPS standard. Spending this much $ on a laptop and getting a poor screen just doesn't make sense.

Stock ips fhd from clevo extreme gaming is very good, I definitely vouch for it.

Edit: Undervolting update, -70mV core -120mV cache stable @stock clocks

Is that the AVHA or the IPS from LG that you are saying that is good?
    How is screen bleeding?
What reduction in temps did you get from that?

Can the CPU maintain full boost now permanently(no more TDP throttling?)

I have the AUO B156HAN01.2, it is matte since I wanted to carry a lot my laptop around.

CPU cannot maintain full boost, as LoneSyndal and D2 stated earlier in the thread: see attached pic, one hour of Far Cry 4, lots of current throttling. No matter what, this throttling is still preventing full boost (HQ generation crapware according to D2).

As regards temps, from what I recall I lowered between 5C and 10C in Prime95 large FFts with roundoff checking activated, but I can redo the test if needed. It is anyway a temperature gain easy to do and worth it imo.

On a sidenote, LoneSyndal, how did you flash XMG EC? Just with a usb key?

Mirrors edge was very picky about what phyx it used. Uninstall the one you have right now and install the one that is in the redist folder in the install directory.

I'm trying to open my NP8652 and am having a hard time. I have removed all the screws but can't find a place to successfully open the bottom. I tried to pull from under the ethernet port which raised the bottom however I'm afraid to apply anymore force as I have a feeling it might break as it is just plastic. I need some help

    edit: i opened it

In our video review you can see Hutsady pulling off the back panel and you can see it does need a little bit of prying but not too much. If you're having trouble you might have just simply missed a screw. 18 minute mark is where to watch

Heatsinks are pretty self-explanatory as they are numbered per screw. Just dont over-tighten any screw or else you'll be out of luck when trying to remove them again in future.

There is a review on that from Notebookcheck that shows this.

    http://www.notebookcheck.net/Clevo-P651SE-Schenker-XMG-P505-Barebones-Notebook-Review.127978.0.html

I have a matte thin film on mine so glossy was never an issue. (As shown in the first post of this thread under mods)

I was thinking more along the lines of - by undervolting you are actually making the CPU use less W when under load...

That and limiting the multiplier for turbo just a litlle bit might help it stay within the TDP and keep it stable at turbo frequencies

You can sort of keep it stable at turbo frequencies using Throttlestop. But the TDP hardcaps itself around 57-60 range (mine stopped at 57 at 3.2GHz under Prime95).

When you say hardcap how do you think they implemented it? I am really curious about it. I will give TS a try tomorrow, under prime95 cpu is stable at 3.19 Ghz, so it is not full boost but meh.

I think that with some tweaking - undervolt, lower multiplier for turbo (x33 ) and throttlestop you could get it to stay within that TDP hardcap without any throttling.

Sure you'd be limiting turbo a bit but i think it's a fair trade.

Yeah... Not an issue for me whatsoever. Now heading for gpu tweaks!

Before that, for those who did update the latest (.06) EC, how did you do it, using the msdos usb key method? Or is there anything simpler as I am already on premamod bios?

I ordered the P650se from XoticPC and it comes with the default 8GB RAM. Was thinking of upgrading it to 16Gb. Any idea on the timings of the stock RAM and what is the best upgrade option? Is it better to just add a 8Gb stick or replace the original one with a 2X8Gb @ CL9?

So an update on my situation... they (Sager, partners with XoticPC) want me to make a $1200 deposit for the IPS LCD I paid for! What do you guys think? I think this is ridiculous...

$1200 Deposit wouldn't be something we're accustomed to ask for, or Sager for that matter, for a display. That sounds more like you were planning on returning the machine you have and they sending you a new one prior to that return credit being available. If exchanging the machine out with credit being available there wouldn't be anything due. Is that the situation?

I've made it clear that I don't want to exchange the whole laptop. That's a huge waste of everyone's time and resources... No point... I just need the IPS panel I paid for. A ~100$ deposit for the the LCD is logical but 1200 is pushing it. I understand Sager is not XoticPC but you guys work closely together. This should not be happening. Please email me directly about getting this deposit amount to a reasonable level and please ship me the IPS panel I ordered... Thanks in advance!

You were shipped with the wrong panel right? If you are capable of switching the panels by yourself, try an option of having them ship only the IPS panel to you? My apologies if this has already been thought of as a solution.

Also, my friend also ordered this laptop through Eurocom and he got the correct IPS screen. I took a picture to show the difference. Both screens have brightness at max. Pictures don't really do it justice. The TN panel is absolute garbage. In my opinion, XoticPC should raise price and offer it stock with IPS. The TN panel really is that bad...

    Here is the IPS panel
    [IMG]

Here is the TN Panel (notice a much more grey hue, green is nowhere near as vibrant)

Here is a side by side comparison

If you have the AUO TN panel it is an eDP and the LG IPS screen Xotic offers is LVDS. They may require you to swap the entire machine as it will need a cable change along with the screen change. Unless they have an IPS eDP display to ship you. If they do I would love to hear what they send!

Sure do wish we could order the display cables as I have an eDP Samsung panel sitting around and wanted to try it on this laptop but mine has an LG LVDS panel. Maybe one day someone will allow us to order the silly cables.

This is quickly turning into a nightmare :(
Will the new one still get the ICDiamond 7? Will it be free of defects like this one? This is so frustrating. Very disappointed they didn't catch this. It's the 1 thing I modified from stock and it didn't happen... Good thing I didn't choose to modify anything else or who knows what else might be missing...
Not to mention the deposit is in USD. Loosing $ to paypal over conversion fees, hooray...

Doea sager do ICD repaste in factory?...I thought xotic handles this

After the LCD incident, I am really wondering if the pasting was done

Sager won't ship panels standalone even if the display connection matches. Too much risk of damage in shipment and so it is their policy to not do so.

IC Diamond is applied directly at Sager and does not require shipment to XPC.

I got your PM and have shot an email to our service team to provide me the details as to what is happening for your RMA. I've also let Josh know of the information you're relaying here so he's aware as well. Will have a reply back as soon as I have the necessary information.

Sager does the IC Diamond repaste. Here was my post earlier on this . http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/xoticpc-sager-np8651-order.770925/#post-9922816

As Derek has mentioned earlier the IC diamond repaste is done by Sager and hence the reason it gets shipped directly from Sager. I do wish that was mentioned on the XoticPC site as the only reason i choose it was because I believe XoticPC was doing the repaste else I would have done it myself.

Anyhow, if the cable is different I would suggest working it out with XoticPC to get a replacement machine as that seems the best option to take and in a manner that you are comfortable with since it was not your mistake to being with.

Just ordered this notebook and hope to get it by next week. Seeing as how GPU overclocking is locked down on the newer Nvidia drivers, is there any way of overclocking by modifying and flashing a new VBIOS?

Does the 970m in the P650SE use HDMI 2.0? Also therefore does this laptop require a HDMI 2.0 compliant cable to work at 1080p on an external monitor? I'm 99% sure it doesn't but I'm having issues with my new laptop. When I hook up an external display my laptop detects that a monitor/TV(I've tried both) is plugged in but nothing is displayed...

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling drivers, I've tried 3 different HDMI 1.4a cables etc.

that is correct and affects all 347.xx drivers. so u can use 344.xx and 346.xx drivers to oc :) flashing a modded vbios with set overclocks is indeed a way to have both an oc and use the newest drivers ;)

What advantages do I get if I plan to flash my Bios with the Prema bios?

Also, the vBios for my 980M allows me to OC it further I understand?

Also, I'm unable to locate the Prema vBios for our 4gb soldered 980m anywhere. I only see 2 versions for the 6gb and 8gb on the prema website.

How do you know overclocking is locked? Did you try to overclock it yourself?
