Vsync On in NCP, off in-game. Never really played anything above 60fps as I always use Gsync. I never noticed any significant difference in input lag with Gsync On and Off playing CS:GO.
Is UEFI default off in your system? Not an expert on that stuff, maybe @Kittys can help.

Actually, I notice this effect if I simply let the display turn off and leave the laptop on but open. When I wakeup the system and the display turns on the edges are all glowy.

Hi. I'm a potential owner here, but I have a few questions before I can make a final decision:
    1. Anecdotally speaking, how "portable" is this laptop? With the listed weight almost 6 lbs (excluding the brick, which I assume also weighs quite a bit), I'm worried that it might be a bit too heavy for me to carry around. If my usage pattern is roughly 80% stationary (ie. sitting in a library/my own room leaving it connected to an outlet) and 20% mobile (ie. whipping it out at a coffee shop or an airport), would this laptop be a good fit?
    2. This question is probably controversial but... between these resellers vs. Sager themselves, who would you recommend me to purchase from: HIDEvolution or XoticPC?
    3. Assuming I end up choosing this laptop, what potential flaws should I be aware of? Any optimization that current owners would recommend?
    Thank you very much!

The answer to number 1 is pretty subjective. I don't find the 15" to be particularly heavy or bulky. I'd have no problem traveling with it. In fact I bought a sleeve to pack it in for my rides down to the coffee shop.

I bought from Xotic. Purchasing from them was pleasant and the price was good. Support has been spotty in responding to me, though. I rely on this forum for fixing problems.

Potential flaws? Some people have trouble with light bleed. Seems very hit or miss. Mine is fine. You may end up wanting to repaste. I ordered with factory IC paste and temps are fine so far. A few people are having problems with the system shutting down mid-game. Seems like a rare issue so it hasn't been diagnosed/fixed yet. And finally - you will almost certainly need to update the BIOS and possibly the EC. Those files are back around page 290 somewhere. There'll probably be newer ones posted here in the future.

I don't have flickering but I do get large FPS drops. At the moment the game I'm getting the drops in is an unoptimized alpha game so I've been attributing drops to that. I've also had them intermittently in an MMO I play but I assumed that was due to network latency. I'll try to fire up something else that's demanding and see if I run into any issues.

I am going to RMA my 2nd sager p6XX... There is some kind of problem with the discrete mode. It started after I booted from mshybrid to discrete mode for the first time. When loading windows, I get a weird magenta flash on my screen, followed by two vertical lines and then two green dotted horizontal lines. When playing in discrete mode, I get VERTICAL screen tearing in the same spots that those lines appeared. I couldn't get my nvidia tray icon to stay, so I tried a clean install... that got my tray icon back, but still all the other problems.

VR in mshybrid mode is much better after the updated bios, but it's still not as good as it should be. In discrete mode, VR is still terrible. I've tried several nvidia drivers, but I always see lots of late frames/latency in the SteamVR frame timing graph. This would cause concern even if I wasn't primarily going to use it for VR... Combine that with what others are saying here about frame drops, it would appear there is still some kind of low level bug in discrete mode. I have lost hope for the clevo 6-series laptops. I am either going to get a desktop replacement P775 or go for the MSI line.

In any case, I hope they can get things ironed out with these laptops... they have so much potential.

hello to the owners of 650RP6, i have been on look out for a gaming system for a while, which i was planning to buy from US and get it to me , in India , through a friend, by the end of November
was hoping for a system based off 1050ti, but that seems a distant dream , which brings me back to this model
Xotic seems to be one offering the lowest price and im holding back for one more week to see if they are going to run any early black friday promotions.

So a question to the other clevo owners , do you have any suggestions regarding about the purchase, should i be on lookout for something, is it a good model?, problems you might have encountered on the way, any insight etc..

because i cant risk getting a buggy model and then be stuck with that in India..

In contrast, I find the 15" form factor to be a bit diverse across various manufacturers when it comes to weight. In particular, a gaming laptop with high end dedicated GPU is almost always heavier and bulkier framewise than a multimedia/mainstream laptop.
@pat@XOTICPC I'm in a hurry right now, but I'll send you a detailed PM later.

Thanks for sharing. It seems like every Pascal laptop is having issues, including the recently released Alienwares (check out the Whirlpool forum).

It's a real shame, I've been looking to buy a laptop for months now and still can't find something I'd feel comfortable dropping close to $2k on.

I was also concerned with portability/mobility when buying the P650RS-G. The laptop is relatively light weight which I like. The only issue I have is durability, but I am accustom to business class Dells which really can't be surpassed in this area and a small HP metal ultrabook which is also rock solid. The first thing that put me off is that the lid for the P650RS feels "flimsy", but I have to admit it feels relatively solid once the laptop is closed (still a point of concern for me though) and the screen itself can withstand a fair amount of flex (unlike say my hp's gorilla glass screen which I think would break if not for the metal case). Aside form the lid, the P650RS feels quite solid and I am planning on traveling with it (I just ordered a sleeve to try and mitigate airport security laptop abuse).

Definitely check the resellers feedback section for experiences and reviews of various resellers / builders. I can say the LPCDigital and HIDevolution appear to be quite popular right now are well reviewed in general on this site. I was quite happy with my HIDevolution experience mainly it helped calm my fears of trying accept all the various issues people have been having. I can happily say that my laptop appears to be running fine, but I haven't tried an external monitor or switching to hybrid mode yet. I haven't yet updated the BIOS and I'm holding off to make sure that is the right thing to do.

Afterburner reported frame rates of 30 and 60 FPS (basically toggling between the two) while playing Witcher 3. In game I didn't really notice it so maybe there is some clever optimization going on or I am just accustom to it. I am playing at 4K resolution with Ultra settings. I will try turning down the settings and see if the frame rate is more consistently high.

That would be V-sync doing that, of course that's where optimus really shines by not having tearing but not halving the FPS when the GPU dips below 60FPS.

    1. Yes, this is as portable as gaming laptops get... You will be fine.. Just get a good bag to carry it around...
    2. I would say Sager reseller.... LPC Digital or GentecPC are good choices...
    3. Need the correct BIOS version.. Older version causes issues with multiple displays/CPU usage... New BIOS has fixed this.. Should be a non-issue now..

Just in case anyone is still interested in what happened to my Clevo, after running tests and benchmarks upon tests and benchmarks, I realized there is no problem with my P650RS-G.

In fact, I realized that all the voltage and power limitations shown by Afterburner and GPU-Z during some games are being caused by, believe it or not, CPU bottleneck.

I noticed that only in CPU-boud games I was experiencing GPU usage limits. In GTA V, for example, in lower resolutions and lower quality settings or if I used advanced graphics extending the view distance. In XCOM 2, low GPU usage would happen when I zoom out during a battle with a large number of enemies. In Doom, I'd be limited to the 120 fps in Ultra quality and 1080p, but would get the same amount of fps using 1440p, but with higher GPU usage. Finally, in Project Cars, the usage would be lower with more cars on screen and higher if I ran alone or against less cars.

I know many people may not believe it, but the i7 6700HQ is, indeed, a bottleneck to some CPU intensive games.

Probably, the fact that the CPUs are evolving slowly, gaining nothing to 10% more performance each new generation, while the GPUs are evolving by leaps of almost 100% performance, especially with laptop Pascal GPUs, is the reason for a high-end laptop i7 being a bottleneck to a GTX 1070.

Hey guys, sorry to bother you again. I'm definitely going to buy this laptop. My last concern is related to the screen. The G-sync technology just affect gaming, right? Despite G-Sync, what's the difference between the two screens:
    • 15.6" Full HD (1920x1080) FHD LED Antiglare Matte Type Display
    • 15.6" Full HD (1920x1080) LG IPS FHD LED Antiglare Matte Type Display w/ NVIDIA G-Sync Technology
Is both of this screens LG? There is any comparison between them?
My concern is because the G-Sync panel costs US$ 85 with HID, from which I'm planning to buy because they offer a international warranty.

Thanks so much if someone could give me an opinion on this.

Always have your panel open if you are doing intensive workloads. If you don't want it to be on disable it knowing the Windows display manager. It does not have to be fully open.

    I did indeed lol.

G-sync is solely used during 3d workloads, there are future options for power saving but they are not in use as of yet.

Macs and some other popular laptops (XPS 13, for example) have plastic cases made by third parties that you can buy to protect the machine. Are there any companies that do custom work? i'd like one for my Sager, just for protection purposes.

Anyone have ideas on how to protect the wrist rests? i unfortunately have sweaty palms and all my laptops get faded where i have my wrists sitting all the time.

Finally, is there a bios update for the 1060 version that i missed?

Solid advice, thank you! Coming from the like of Acer and ASUS, with zero exposure to business-class Dell/HP, I'm pretty sure the durability issue is trivial. I actually do plan (or rather, need) to do a triple monitor setup for my work/study, and I was worried that the 1060 might not be up to the snuff.

By the way, there's a sleeve that's big enough to fit the NP8153? Isn't it a little over an inch thick?

So, ordering straight from Sager is a good choice too? and I haven't heard of the other two you mentioned, but I'll check them out now.

3rd party sellers are only better when it comes to any support needed... Any non custom badged sager/clevos like say the evoc are shipped from sager themselves anyways so minus well if you really want to. LPC, HID or Xotic would be other good choices.

There was e test in the PCGH print magazine last year or so.* They did some testing with 7 year old hardware. After reapplying the old compound with MX4 and were able to lower the temps by about 2 degree.

To me personally this means that I will only repaste if I have to uninstall/reinstall anyhting or if I get temp - as of yet the temps are quite fine CPU and GPU never above 72 resp. 75 degree...

    Best regards

    phila

*P.S.: I dumped the magazine allready.

This works well for me. It's from one of those cheap rubberized non-skid pads typically used in cars where you put your phone. The underside sticks well with the aluminum. I just cut it to fit the corners perfectly.

Hi guys, I have my P650 (1070) since a couple of months ago from Obsidian. So far I'm loving it, but there are a few things I'd like to write here to see if it can help anyone.

    - Backlight bleeding is a bit disappointing, the shop is working in some way to improve it so I don't have to rma (per my request), I hope it'll improve, since it's clearly an excess/lack of pressure on the panel

    - I'd like to proper test the performance and temps. I've done it once, but I'd like to compare with people here to see how it goes. What tests/games should I use? I'll post back my results so we can compare as soon as I know what to do.

    - Also, what's the last available BIOS that fixes some of the bugs, like the external display one?

I haven't updated yet any drivers, they're stock, it seemed there were some troubles with the nvidia ones that I don't know if they're fixed.

I noticed something possibly strange going on with my P670RS-G.

I opened up HWMonitor to check temperatures and saw that at idle the core clocks keep switching. Both the voltage and the core clocks keep going up and down , from 3090 to 3495, changing a few times every second. I do not remember this happening when I looked at it a few weeks ago, but I can't be sure - I just don't remember. Is this normal or is something strange going on here?

After some deliberation, I've decided to get the P650RS-G/NP8153-S, and right now I'm in the process of researching the resellers. Does anyone mind to share some of their experience beyond what I've already read in the reseller feedback subforum?

Also, I was looking around on Amazon/Newegg for RAM/SSD/OS to swap into the laptop afterward, but apparently they're all more expensive than paying extra for them during the build process (consistent price across all resellers). How come? Do resellers get some sort of volume pricing on these parts?

I also have another question (for those who bought the NP8153 from Xotic):

For those who bought the laptop without an additional HDD (i.e. laptop only came with m.2 storage), how do you mount new storage onto the bay? Looking at the video review by Equatis, it doesn't look like there is a means to fit additional storage into the bay securely.

Please, someone with no G-sync display could give some feedback. Is the screen the same as with G-sync? Is the back bleed bad? What is the manufacturer?
I'm seriously looking to buy without G-sync...

There are hdd screws in the baggie. Remove the cage then screw bottom drive in facing up and 2nd facing down then install cage again into system.

I used below video. Although this is an older Sager laptop, the case and internal components placement are almost exactly the same with no changes. One point to note in case anyone didn't open yet is to remove every screw on the back even the ones that say keyboard. I tried without the keyboard screws and I couldn't lift the bottom cover.

At around 8:00, he starts talking about the samsung ssd in the bay. You have to remove the 3 screw (not 4 like the older model) on the silver caddy to take it out.

Your laptop box will come with 8 screws along with the manual and cd ( o_O). You need 4 screws to mount each hdd/ssd to the silver caddy.

Then place everything back. You can mount either 2ssd or 1hdd. You can't mount 1hdd+1ssd or 2 hdd unless you get a 7mm thick hdd.

Awesome! Thank you for the info. Good to know I can fit two 7mm HDDs into the bay.

My plan once I get the laptop:
    1. add hdd
    2. repaste
    3. undervolt cpu

Just received my P650RS-G with 4k screen from HIDevolution yesterday. This is my first time spending over 2k on a laptop, and I have to say I'm a little underwhelmed. Service from HID was great (thanks Ted for dealing with my impatience). My biggest disappointment is the screen. I purposely went for the 4k because I heard the 1080 had backlight bleed issues. My 4k screen has it pretty bad too. Bottom left and the whole right side is glaring on black screens. I don't want to RMA it since I need it for work, so I will toy with it, but I expected a lot better quality.

Is this something the reseller should pick up when they do the professional color calibration that I paid for or is that just an add-on that is a waste of money? If I do RMA it does anyone have experience with the turn around time from HID?

    Thanks for the help!

Also what page was the updated BIOS link on?

Folks at HIDevolution were pretty insistent on me not using the Sager BIOS and instead using the one they sent to me directly. So you may want to contact them for it. Some folks have used the Sager one though and have had no issues. The latest one is .04 so you can check which one yours came with. It's on page 298 if you decide to use it.

I have an FHD screen with no backlight bleeding.

There is no rule saying that FHD or QHD will or will not have light bleeding. IPS screens usually have some sort of light bleeding but as long as it's not in your face and not bothering you it's ok

Soon you will have the Prema BIOS when it's released I do not advice you to flash the Sager BIOS. it's just a matter of time to get the Prema BIOS and unleash the best that's in your laptop with full control of overclocking, voltage, power limits, turbo power max limits, current limits, etc

    Benefits of Prema BIOS:

    • The ability to disable other drives connected to your system without physically removing them from your laptop, this comes in handy when installing Windows as you never want to have more than one drive connected at the time you are installing Windows otherwise the Windows setup will place the boot files on the 2nd drive it sees which hurts performance and makes it a headache when creating system images or restoring since the boot files are not on the main drive.
    • The ability to overclock, increase Turbo Power Limits and System IA/Core Current Limits
    • The ability to enable Intel Speed Shift Technology (it is disabled in the stock BIOS)
    • The ability to run RAM with speeds higher than the standard 2133 MHz. I am not talking about overclocking here, I am talking about actual RAM sticks that are rated to run at 2800 MHz for example like the G.Skill 64GB 2800 MHz kit I have. With the stock BIOS, they will not run above 2400 MHz. In the case of the P870DM3, the stock BIOS now supports up to 2666 MHz. I believe but not more, so the Prema BIOS is a must again
    • The ability to enable CSM for those who want to install other OSes like Windows 7
    • The ability to undervolt the CPU as the stock voltage is way too high which causes the CPU to overheat much quicker and thus throttle under load.
    • The ability to enable or disable CPU AES instructions or Virtualization
    • The ability to disable hibernation from the BIOS

    Benefits of Prema VBIOS:

    • Power throttle disabled
    • Over-voltage slider enabled and adjusted (up to a maximum of 1.2v)
    • Activated and adjusted thermal slider (to keep it cooler if desired)
    • Core overclock slider limit raised
    • Power consumption meter activated
    • Fixed 3D voltage base-line in order to stabilize OCs and voltage-match both cards in SLI systems (based on average ASIC)
    • Thermal protection @ 92c (once*91c are breached the system throttles volts and clocks in order to protect it)
    • Protection against Furmark and Kombustor GPU burnout (AVOID those software even with stock vBIOS)!
