I got my P650RS from HID and I was very happy with everything. I ordered at the start of October and received it on the 26th I think? so just over 3 weeks turn-around time and that included some waiting for whatever was backordered. @Donald@HIDevolution only had to put up with 2 calls from me asking about different order statuses or just chatting about the state of laptop panels, and he was never in a rush to get me off the line. As far as the laptop it arrived perfectly intact with no issues, had all my upgraded parts (6820HK, 2x8GB ram, 500GB 850 Evo) and they even installed win 10 pro instead of home which I paid for. There is some light bleed on the panel but like @Phoenix said that is just how IPS can be; once I'm past the boot screen I absolutely do not notice it even when I'm looking for it, especially when I'm playing games. I know $2k+ is a pretty big purchase for most especially on something you don't really need like a gaming laptop, and you want the experience to be smooth and trouble free. I would have no hesitation ordering my next laptop from HID.

I did look into getting parts as aftermarket and installing myself and things were a bit cheaper from Amazon/Newegg but I didn't bother because it wasn't worth it to me. The laptop shows up and is ready to roll immediately which you will be grateful for.

Guys, will g-sync ever work as advertised on the P650RP6-G?
I feel like ever since I had it I've been waiting for the next driver update, BIOS update, fix, trick or whatever to get it working.
With v-sync on it kinda works but the input lag is noticeable in many games...
I'm absolutely loving the laptop and it's in many ways the best Clevo I ever owned, but this g-sync issue allied with inconsistent performance levels (flickering screen and FPS drops which I've tried to fix in a variety of ways to no avail) are becoming a deal breaker for me... Should I press on or ask for a RMA?

Did you ever get this problem sorted out? The EXACT same thing from #2 is happening to me.

I think the issue started a week ago when I got a random black screen when gaming. I didn't think anything of it since it was pretty infrequent and I was able to mostly game fine. However, then the black screens started happening during boot-up. Sometimes my laptop won't even reach the splash screen and the screen just remains black and I have to force restart it. Sometimes it happens as I try to log into Windows. Now, it happens so frequently that I can't even run 3DMark benchmarks or play a single game of LoL without constant black screens. Is my GPU dead? I tried rolling back the drivers but that didn't help.

    I have the P650RS-G with the 1070.

Do you notice that this changes after the screen has been on for a few minutes?

I ask because I noticed a glow around the edges of my 4K screen right when the display comes on either from boot or on waking up from sleep. However, after a few minutes the glow goes away and there is relatively little backlight bleed.

I'm not sure if the same thing is happening to your or not or what causes this odd phenomena...

This is kind of a funny story. I was playing Witcher 3 at 4K Ultra settings and I notice the game getting pretty laggy. The frame rate was dropping below 20 at times. The game was playable but somewhat annoying. I was starting to sweat thinking that some issue was raising it's ugly head when I got a notice from the OS that my battery was running low. So, in fact, I was kind of stress testing the system under battery. I am actually surprised it did as well as it did. I'm not sure exactly how much play time I got off the battery but I think it was a couple of hours.

Needless to say I would probably turn down the settings and the resolution to really get the most out of gaming on battery power ;)

IPS glow... It happens and the screens do need to warm up sometimes. At Least thats what NEC states for their IPS and its basically same and for normal people it doesn't matter.

Our displays dont have A-TW polarizers so glow wont go away totally either and the resolution does not matter. The 15.3 displays are not on par with the 17.3 even the 4K due to it being pentile.

I have to say I don't notice the glow once the monitor has warmed up. It seems to go away completely. I don't know if this is the same issue as @Devlin909 is having, but I hope so. When I saw that glow it sure put me into a panic - it was a great relief to see that it did in fact dissipate.

And you make a good point - a 4K pentile screen is not by any stretch the gold standard to judge other 4K screens by, but still I have to say that the 4K screen I have on my P650RS is quite stunning. Witcher 3 on Ultra really looks amazing. It struck me while I was walking through one of the towns (I'd been wandering through the woods and hamlets for too long...).

From what I've read on nvidia forums people say to turn vsync off and then cap fps below display refresh rate to have gsync work without tearing. Without vsync my gsync was capping above the display refresh rate 85 fps. When my display was only 75hz. Frame capping in nvidia inspector fixed it.

V-sync works when the FPS you produce is less than your refresh rate at which point V-sync takes over or it uncaps the FPS and you get tearing (depending how you set it).

If you cap your FPS you will cap your refresh rate and it's v-sync at that point.

Not yet, I sent the laptop back for repair last week. The service dep said that they need to replace the motherboard probably. I should receive some feedback tomorrow hopefully.
Overall, your case sounds identical to mine. I guess the 1070 is dead. There have been a couple of other posts with similar issues as well.

You mean to say gsync until you reach your refresh rate correct?

That OR a frame cap you set below your refresh rate. Whichever is reached first will stop G-sync.

Can you explain what I'm on now:
Gsync On, Vsync On (in-game OFF) - Smooth and no tearing. I don't notice any input lag esp with shooter games.
FPS shows around 58.9 max, never reaches 60, and I don't use any frame limiters.
    Gsync working, right?
If it does, I don't know why others can't make Gsync work. I'm on latest Nvidia drivers, Bios .03, EC .04.

Has anyone else noticed inconsistency with headphone volume and sound quality? I notice almost always when I first turn the laptop on the sound with headphones is low, unless I turn volume above 10%, but even then sounds off. Only way I have found to get it back to what seems normal is to put the computer to sleep then wake it. Then the sound seems better, and is almost too loud at 4%

Oh damn. Sorry, my mistake. It's just Skyrim SE acting weird. Other games reach 60fps, still can't notice any input lag.

Are you me?... I got scared for the same reason (with the same game) yesterday :D

Maybe a noob question, but reading this thread long time and dont understand why everyone install different overclock programms and dont use clevo command center?

Undervolted CPU to -211mv everything seems to work fine. Afraid to undervolt more, if my system will crush because of high undervolt, wont it crash every time I boot my laptop?

Any of you tried the new XMG BIOS for P650RP6? I wonder why the BIOS version is 1.05.01a. I'm on 1.05.03 now, is it safe to flash this old version? EC is 1.05.06TR2 tho.

The built in overclocking utility in the Clevo Control Center is limited, firstly, when you apply the undervolt in the Control Center, it only applies it to the CPU and NOT the Cache Ratio which makes a HUGE difference, in other utilities such as Throttle Stop or soon in the Prema BIOS, you can apply the undervolt for the CPU Core and the Cache (AKA Ring). Additionally, the Prema BIOS allows you to set a higher Turbo Power Max voltage to give it more juice and it allows you to increase the power limit 3 and 4 but in the Control Center you can only increase Power Limit 1 and 2

    I´m leaving this here too:

There are new drivers in the CLEVO website, these are the Audio driver that is JUST for P670RP6 and you can download it in our website (downloads section), and then the CONTROL CENTER which is for P670RP6-G, P650RS-G, P670RS-G which you can also download from our website.

As for Intel and NVIDIA, don´t use the ones in CLEVO website.

We just uploaded NVIDIA 375.76 which does have fixes, and as for Intel HD, i´m running the latest Beta without a problem Intel HD Beta 15.40.xx.4539 - You can also download from our website.

Let me know if you run into issues!

Also we noticed some flicker and video output problems could be fixed by changing the color setting in the NVIDIA control panel:
    color-range option
if its in limited mode it will flicker
    in full range its perfect
even the colors are much better

If you install Ubuntu Linux or derivates, you ALWAYS have to change the color options, add the latest NVIDIA drivers ppa, install the NVIDIA driver, reboot, go to NVIDIA control panel and change the color options!!

Is there a difference between the drivers uploaded vs the drivers in Nvidia's site?

Also, a question regarding cooling: how thick are the stock thermal pads in the p650rs? I plan to replace these with new thermal pads once I repaste. Thanks!

Even after an hour I still have significant bleed and it definitely looks like pinch points on the screen that cause it. I can live with it since it is only on black screens that it is noticeable. It is just a shame that it really is a beautiful 4k screen, but the frame construction is poor. I will be keeping my eye out for any self repair ideas out there.

Other than then screen I'm pretty impressed with the performance(take that with a grain of salt since I'm coming from a 6 year old asus with a gtx 360).

Any recommendations on free benchmark tests to ensure I'm getting the full potential out of this machine?

    I repeat myself. Anyone?

Btw, just played witcher 3 with the 1070 for a couple of hours, ultra, no hairworks puts the laptop at constant 87-88°C. Hairworks on puts it at about 90°C. Is this normal? There's no throttling though, 60fps like a rock either case, gsync on. Gpu usage goes from 60 to 99%

Those temps seem high to me. I'll check when I get home, but I believe I was below 70C. I did have vsync on and my frame rate would toggle between 30 and 60 FPS. I haven't quite grappled with G-sync yet.

FYI, Skyrim/SE has serious problems with G-Sync right now. On both my 60hz g-sync panel (P650RP) and desktop 144hz g-sync panel the ONLY way it'll behave is with G-Sync disabled. In my case, I simply use borderless windowed mode and set G-Sync to only work with full-screen apps.

    Heyo,

I just got a P650RP6 a couple weeks ago. Today the two CTRL keys abruptly stopped working. It's just the two CTRL keys on both side of the keyboard, so far the other keys are not affected. I tried rebooting to Safe Mode but it still doesn't register CTRL. I connected another keyboard and they do work on the external keyboard. Is there a driver I can install/reinstall/uninstall or do I have to reseat the keyboard cable or something?

    Thanks for any help.

Thanks guys. Laptop is already elevated a couple of cm, it only affects temps by 1-2º. What are the best ways to reduce temps? I've never had a laptop so hot like this one, but it's true that moving witcher 3 at 60fps ultra was never on my mind, what a beast the 1070 is.

I'd love to achieve temps in the mid 70s low 80s if possible. Any ideas, besides lowering graphic quality? I also don't know if these clevos are made to handle such high temps, they look solid though

Repaste with CLU if you're comfortable doing so and know how to make it work properly with your heatsink. You can also get a laptop cooler and mod it like @Mr. Fox and @Papusan with 12V fans so that it blows a lot of air straight into the intakes in the bottom of your laptop.

You can undervolt cpu to lower cpu temp ( doesn't answer your question about lowering gpu temp). Maybe that makes a difference since they share a heatpipe? On overwatch I got a 5 degree drop going from ultra to low (competitive) settings on 1060.

Thanks guys, I'll look at the undervolt thing, I've never tried it before, although my cpu almost never reaches 80°C, but maybe it can help the gpu out.

What's that cooling pad mod you said? Where can I find it? If some kind of pad can help decrease a few more degrees, can be great!

Besides all of this, am I the only one having temps like that with witcher 3 at max? (88-90°C) What are your temps in a situation like that?

PS. What I don't really understand about this laptop cooling is that forcing fans at 100% doesn't have any impact at all on temps vs automatic

That sounds weird. You should see a difference with fans on turbo. Can you test another game? Would def try repaste.

Can't say that I've seen anyone see a big temp drop with laptop cooler on this thread. Maybe I missed it somewhere.

Pretty much all laptop coolers have anemic fans at stock. You'd need to add 12V fans and wire up an appropriate jack for a power supply.

Could anyone with the full color keyboard give a rundown of what the different keyboard lighting options do? Some of them are straightforward like 'wave' or 'breathe' but I can't seem to find much information. All the reviews gloss over it. I want to know if there is a reactive or ripple like effect.

Follow up... Did anyone tried the new XMG BIOS and EC (for P650RP6)? Their BIOS 1.05.01a, EC 1.05.06TR2.

Can someone let me know what the latest EC version for P670RS-G is? I am a little confused with two different ones floating around. Thanks!

As @John@OBSIDIAN-PC pointed out there is an updated version of the Clevo control center. Has anyone tried it out? Could you just uninstall the old CCC and go for the new one? I am kind of sceptical since everything is running fine for me and the only thing that kind of bothers me about the current CCC is the fact that settings don't save after each reboot...

@vicyuste1 I was in the same boat when I tried to undervolt my i7 6700hq (was my first undervolting attempt :p). All you need to do is to download ThrottleStop and do not feel overwhelmed about all that stuff that is going on there. Go to "FIVR" and the only setting you want to look at is "Offset Voltage" - also make sure CPU Core Voltage is set to adaptive. Tick "Unlock Adjustable Voltage" and go for your desired value for CPU Core and do the same for CPU Cache(value has to be the same for core and cache!). Personally I started with -150mV on either core and cache and it worked perfectly. You might want to start with -100mV do some testing if its stable - go for -110mV, -120mV etc...and see what your chip can do :)! Also it really is minus100mV etc...

Thank you so much for this. I have never undervolted but wanted to give it a shot. However I was a little overwhelmed and apprehensive, but this quick guide was perfect, took about 5 minutes and lowered my average CPU temps by 10 DEGREES!!!!!!!
