As of now, you can use the one from XMG site if you don't mind the boot logo.

The Only difference is the logo. The same can be sourced from clevo itself but has their own generic logo which is even uglier. So ide think not.

    Mine
But you can find it cheaper through Amazon. Think I ended up paying like $25 or something other. It has a great incline for if you're on a bed or couch also.
Personally I game with 6 pillows behind me, a mousepad beside me with a wireless mouse on my bed, and it sits perfectly if place another pillow under my left arm to support it.
I know guys, I know... I'm such a Queen with my 30 pillows haha
But you'd be jealous of my comfort level

It seems people really like the CoolMaster U3. I may buy one if the temperatures seem high once I test the laptop.

Those are good if you want to keep them on a desk at all times, but look awfully painful if you switch to actually using it on your lap. Of course it may just be the angles of the pictures that I looked at.
I do like the moveable fans tho!

I'd be a little bit surprised if they were really high. Both my and my friends P650RS models haven't needed max fans to stay sub 80s, and even low 80s isn't worrying.

Does the coolers make a difference? I never had one and was wondering if that makes a difference when gaming at max performance.

Can anyone recommend a small portable cooler? I was looking at this, but I'm not sure if anyone's tried using it with a Clevo.

EDIT: actually a portable thin lapdesk + cooler would be perfect.

Guys! Question, is the 1TB HDD (Via HIDEvolution) included a 7mm or a 9mm one? Have anybody bought one from them which included this drive? It'd be a please to know :p

On my 17x, the fans kick in around 25% less - give or take.
And it beats propping them up on anything less than completely stable, to increase airflow underneath.
And at the end of the day, more airflow and better cooling underneath is never a bad thing ;)
It just comes down too rather if you want to use it on your lap sometimes as well. Because both examples we gave you, are different when it comes down to stability on the surface it's sitting on.

Contacted their CS pre-purchase before about other BIOS. It's a grey area. If there is damage caused by the new firmware (e.g bricking) then you're liable. They can't give me a definite answer though in the situation is a fault of the manufacturer instead of the new BIOS.

    Try Clevo Center instead.

So, has anyone tried any of these out? I have a cushy lapdesk for home use but I'm looking for something to use while traveling:

    Xpad Slim - https://amzn.com/B001RQ2HWK
    Cool Pad (for 15" laptops) - https://amzn.com/B015EN5340

( I also looked at the Cooler Master C-HS02-K but that's a bit thicker due to the "wave" shape).

"Accessorizing" seems like a good way to kill time while I wait out the arrival of my new laptop. Should come on exactly Oct 21 give or take a week =P

Thanks! Yes, I think the "cool pad" is made by the same company. Do you have an opinions on particular skelter models? The "cool pad" looks like about the right size (just barely, but smaller is better for for me while traveling).

EDIT: actually the "Slate Go Mini" for 15" looks about right. 15.2 x .5 x 11 inches is just the right size. Note sure how the "cool pad" fits into their line.

Yes, I have the mini and love it. Reviews for the xpad say it stinks...like it literally smells bad.

Edit: the mini also feels a little rough out of the box, almost like it would give you a splinter, but it smooths out after about 2 weeks of use.

I got a lapdesk xl. It has no real additional cooling stuff(doesn't need it tbh) but is nice because I can use a portable mouse with it. Here's a pic. [IMG]

Guys, Am I wrong or this notebook is a Clevo P670 rebranded by Medion?
I'm writing from italy and I could buy from the national "official" Clevo reseller (called Santech)... but I trust no small company.
So, even if Medion has quite a "bad reputation" between the experts, I would prefer to take this Medion because of the excellent warranty provided by Amazon.
    Any considerations? :)

Yep. It's a P671RP-6 (the "1" variants have black plastic rear plate whereas the "0" variants have a metal trim).

    On a side-note regarding ACPI.sys problems:

I recently updated to Win10 Fast ring (insider build) and noted it broke my ACPI.sys fix, pinning a core again.

Now I'm 95% sure it can be fixed by removing and reinstalling the latest Intel Rapid Storage driver AND Intel Chipset driver and rebooting. I'm guessing the insider build replaced the driver in there.

EDIT: Another note. Does anybody here have a Thunderbolt 3 device at all? My P650RP6 at the very least contains an Intel Alpine Ridge controller with 4x PCIE lanes routed to it DESPITE what the Clevo spec sheet says.

I only have regular USB Type-C gear but I can see it spawning the PCIE USB 3.1 host controller underneath the Alpine Ridge chipset.

TB3 is most likely disabled in bios by default and reserved for higher end units if it has alpine ridge. There is a TB3 setting in bios though thats hidden.

Mmm... I knew nothing about 1/0 variants... good to know! :)
I suppose the plastic one tends to be less strong/shock-proof/sweat-proof (my wrists are terrible... -.-).. :/
This difference worth the money? :/

    Excellent Amazon assistance (2 years) + plastic plate + m.2 256gb ssd = 1545 €
3 years Santech warranty (good but not excellent.. no returns/exchanges if needed) + metal plate + no ssd (I have an "old" m550 500gb SSD that could use) = 1620 €

Interesting. I wonder if it's a licensing limitation? I know a lot of first-gen Alpine Ridge implementations went to market before certification and were thus not allowed to be marketed as TB3 capable. MSI did this with their Skylake GS40/GS60 models. Similarly, I don't think you can officially use the the Thunderbolt logo without certification.

Also worth noting, according to the service manual, neither the DisplayPort or HDMI sinks are connected for display output which may be what's stopping certification. All official TB3 sheets I can find suggests DisplayPort output is part of the spec.

Seems silly to implement the Alpine Ridge dual Thunderbolt controller (ie the expensive one) and leave it as a dumb USB3.1 controller. An ASMedia or similar controller would've achieved the same much cheaper.

Perhaps a BIOS mod could enable it?

AFAIK the difference is only aesthetic and only applies to that rear plate. Just looks a bit nicer basically. The top plate should still be alloy and the bottom plate is either alloy (1060/RP versions) or plastic (1070/RS versions).

The rare exception to this is the P655 which is entirely plastic and previously came in a GTX 965M skew (now 1060) which I suppose is to make it cheaper. It doesn't really fit in pricing-wise though as it got in the way of the N150RF. I haven't seen any big resellers pick it up yet.

Its probably cheaper to mass manufacture system with alpine and then allow vendors to activate it at will for their models rather than create a new sku unless they have other plans. The issue with bios modding AptioV is getting past security verification. Even with access to aptio signing server (which very few have) we do not have clevos key for the bios which leaves the options of trying to strip capsule out or force flashing it which can go wrong

Is this the issue with nvidia driver/G-sync or Bios? Hope it's on nvidia side as it's more likely to be fixed sooner.

I give up for now...for whoever wants to try getting fully enabled stock bios have fun. (Also included the logo pulls because...thats literally only differences between xmgs and the one with style note logo) one of you probably is cheekier can figure it out. Here. The monster in the closet? Security validation failure. TB3, Overclocking etc is re-enabled bios side though.

That's interesting. The only rubberised finished Clevo's I was aware of was the P655 generation which seemingly ended with the Maxwell chips. That and the N150/170 series.

That being said, the Medion reviews do have those funky Touchpad LEDs (personally I think they're hideous) which aren't mentioned on any standard Clevo barebone.

Is the security validation done through some kind of sha hash or md5sum check? That could be tough to defeat unless you can find where they store the reference value.

Anyone know what exactly is needed to set keyboard color (preferably to permanently off)? I don't need Clevo's Control Center cluttering my notification tray so I have it disabled, but the keyboard color defaults to bright blue whenever I reboot or resume from sleep.

I currently have a workaround by running/closing C:\Program Files (x86)\Hotkey\KbColorPicker.exe every time I login, but there has to be a better way (maybe some way to have the keyboard shortcuts be enabled without all the GUI clutter?).
