Make sure you set your fan profile back to auto. Most default to over clock.

Okay, finally caught up on new posts. :)
Hmm, I hope that's the case, my order has only been in for about a day and a half, so fingers crossed.

I don't plan on using an external monitor most of the time, but it would be nice to be able to plug it in to a TV from time to time. It's not an Nvidia driver issue, I gather?

Got a 5c drop in CPU max temp when running firestrike benchmark/stress test. similar performance core using GC TP compared to stock TP. GPU max temp didn't really drop...

Omg this is driving me nuts... I'm trying to install a Samsung 850 Evo 1tb SSD but for the life of me, can't get into Bios AGAIN. I know I asked this the other day but I must have restarted more than a dozen times in the past 15min trying to get into the damn thing. I've both held down and pressed the keys repeatedly (F2, F4, and F7) to no avail. I've tried at the sager screen logo and when it pops up. It either freezes, boots to a black screen with my mouse cursor, or boots straight into windows. It's driving me insane. F7 worked that one time the other day only. There must be some other way to get in right? I'm starting to think this is not normal...

I installed the drive but it's not showing up in My Computer. I see it under Device Manager but that's it =/

Anybody have any suggestions? I apologize if this sounds so simple :(

Nice. Did you have the IC Diamond TP stock or something else? Gelid GC Extreme is my favorite TP, if the gains are that much over ICD (what I got stock) I would definitely do this too.

I finally got the drive to work. Didn't need to get into bios, I couldn't anyway. I ended up having to convert it to a dynamic disk. Odd, I thought it was plug and play. Its my 2nd time installing an ssd.

Anyway, the problem is getting into the damn bios. I'd like to flash and upgrade it to the new one now but I can't even get into it.

Just received my NP8153 special from LPCDigital, gotta say it's running decently cool and quiet just at stock.

Does anyone know if there's some way to disable the keyboard backlight without running KbColorPicker.exe every time? Seems like the Fn+numpad controls doesn't function without the Clevo Hotkeys running, and the backlight will come back on each time I resume from Sleep the way I have it now.

I'm supposedly getting my P650RP6 (1060 with 6700HQ) today and it's my first time updating a Bios, so can you guys tell me if I got everything right?

1 - Download Sager's or XMG's bios (The one gooface posted a few pages back) and XMG's EC ( EC_XMG_P507_mit_1060_1.05.02TR1.zip)
2 - Create bootable DOS USB with Rufus and place both files in different folders
3 - Boot USB and "cd " into the different folders inside the USB
4 - Flash one file after the other
    5 - Reboot

That's everything right? The thing that scares me the most is getting the wrong bios or EC for my system

    Thanks

Ok, perfect, thanks. I'm thinking that the XMG bios (BIOS_XMG_P507_1070_P707_1060_1070_1.05.03a.zip) is the correct one for my model (P650RP6)?

Do tell us if everything goes well.

You have uninstall CC utility, reboot, before installing XTU, else XTU won't install. Install CC utility after installing XTU. There is a post way back stating so.

Actually I didn't have to uninstall CC utility. In fact, I didn't even know that was the problem lol. I did have issues installing Intel XTU at first, I had to ctrl alt delete and force close it. I then ended up rebooting and tried the install again and it worked.

I'm getting 30 fps (maybe locked?) during the firestrike physics test with temps below 58c. Windows and nvidia are set to performance. Is this normal since physics is gpu+cpu+gsync?

Undervolted -100mv, gc extreme paste. Graphics are 60 fps for the most part. Combined test is 20fps

This would be my second RMA then. After waiting 4 weeks to have it RMA'd the first time, it arrives back with the following issues:

    • The laptop loser power and does a hard restart on its own, when left to idle. Hard restart as in it just loses power completely, then reboots. In the event viewer, I am seeing a lot of Event 41 power-kernal errors.
    • The laptop clicks once, loudly when restarting at any time. Hard or soft.
    • When plugging in an external monitor, the usage of a single CPU core jumps up to over 90%. This causes lag in everything.

I've emailed Sager support, and I really hate to say it, but I don't think the tech helping me speaks English very well. It is making communication over the issue very frustrating. I'll ask Meaker if he has any insight instead....

I didn't mean you had ram issues. Just that in my case that was the issues and the bios wouldn't let me in. The CMOS battery is under keyboard. You actually don't have to remove back panel even. Just remove the few scres labeled keyboard then shove something sort of small through that hole that shows a keyboard popping out and pop the keyboard out. After that just unplug the little cable next to CMOS battery. After booting it may reboot itself a few times and then tell you bios has been reset. Good luck

I have the clicking noise happening too...however I've noticed that it's related to the headphone jack. Whenever I plug in or unplug headphones/speakers, the laptop will make a clicking noise. This also happens when I restart or turn on/off the computer with my headphones plugged in. I'm guessing this is related to the sound card somehow? Not sure if it means that my unit is defective or not.

Do you see that it's related to the headphone jack as well? If I don't have anything plugged in, my computer doesn't make any clicking noises when restarting.

Forgive me for asking this again, but I'm starting to get a little concerned about traveling with a P650RS. I know the build is not in the same category as a Dell business class latitude (I've traveled with those for years without issues), but is the chassis strong enough to handle regular travel and protect the screen etc?

Again, apologies if we covered all this already...

Thanks for that, I highly doubted I had any ram issues anyway. Figured I just try give that a shot cause why not.

All that being said, I'm gonna have to RMA my laptop anyway. The light bleed got worse I think, now the top left is as big as the top right corner its now casting a very light yellowish tint on even some lighter backgrounds.

Apparently all the 1080 screens have that back light bleed issue according to Larry. I'm considering reordering another one but with a 4k display. However, that also means waiting another 3-4weeks

Can anyone kindly shed any info on their 4k displays if they have issues? I would greatly appreciate it. Larry did mention that customers have said the bleed is "considerably" less. I'm referring to the 650rs by the way.

Thanks to everyone for letting me know they hear a similar 'click' when restarting. I thought it was unusual because it happens with external speakers plugged in or not. I also hear a slight click us it boots up. If that's normal then I'll accept it just fine. My older Sager does not click so it seemed unusual.

I now suddenly can't replicate the hard restart issue. I'd messed with some power settings, but ended up setting it back to default and reinstalling the Nvidia drivers. Sooooo, maybe it's sorted itself out? :p

If I could just plug my second screen in for gaming, that would be great....

It's probably a mini-relay switching modes for the headphones, I believe the 8153 has a special amp and dac just for when headphones are plugged in. I've had a couple Xonar sound cards that do the same. I don't have my 650 yet so can't confirm though.

@phila_delphia @Xileforce thanks! I do pretty well traveling with notebooks and I've been through a few of them over the last decade and a half. Three HPs and three company Dells and so far I've avoided any serious damage while traveling (knock on wood). My last HP is a nice slim Spectre 13t-3000 that is going strong after three years and has put up with a lot of travel. I generally get 2-3 years out of a laptop before it's either having problems or it's just too far behind.

The Spectre is by far the best personal laptop I've owned and I'm really trying to keep that user experience going with the next one. Unfortunately the current line of Spectre's are not that appealing and I want to bump up a level in terms of gaming performance.

The only other option I'm at all serious about would be the new Razer Blade, though I think that may have a host of other issues to contend with.

Game with a blade at the airport and people will start thinking their flight is leaving!
Its mostly aluminum with aluminum cage so I wouldn't worry about P650

I actually kicked mine off bed by accident...and well surprisingly its not dented or scratched.

Okay, I didn't realize the Razer fan was like that, but I got a really bad grade in thermodynamics... =P

That's actually a pretty good stress test! Certainly not a fragile machine then by any measure.

Sorry again for asking these kinds of questions. The popularity of this model has lead to significant delays which leaves me too much time to keep reconsidering buying options. I think Larry@LPCDigital is working quite hard to keep up with demand and he has still been quite patient over the phone.

And of course he encourages me to contact all you folks here at NB =)
