Keep in mind the gsync display is also of better quality and ips. Gsync displays also have pretty strict standards they must abide to and support dynamic overdrive for instance.

This. It's why my GF and I went with the ips (gsync) panel.

Same. Plus gsync is an added bonus. In most games with a 1070 it's probably fast enough to run fast sync once 60fps is exceeded.

Is it suitable for all clevo based notebooks or ony for xmg machines?

In linked flashing EC BIOS guide is written, that EC can be flash via DOS only. But... if you extract zip file downloaded from xmg site you will see folder named ECwinflash. In this particular folder is ECWinFlash app, so... I think flash can be done via Windows also. Is this method safe, anyone can confirm?

I don't see any reason why it shouldn't work on other clevos, but of course I can't give a guarantee.
ECWinFlash crashed hard during flashing. I had to disconnect the battery to shut off the laptop. Luckily everything was fine after rebooting.

If you dont have problems with fluctuating fan rpms, I don't think flashing will change much for you.

So DOS dongle is a must. I guess this EC update is not for solving problems with fluctuating rpms but rather for 1 - 0 fan rpms (quiet - loud and nothing inbetween).

You should have modified DVD or USB dongle with USB 3.0 drivers.

Use this tool https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25476/Windows-7-USB-3-0-Creator-Utility But I'm affraid, that after installing win7 on usb3.0 machine you will have problems with drivers for clevo. You should be able to install win, but without drives for most hardware parts - including lan, wifi and... USB 3.0 :)

It may have been a mistake on my part, that lead to the crash. Never exclude user error. ;)
But using the DOS usb-stick method only takes 5 minutes if you do it right the first time (rufus free-DOS, disable uefi), so why not use it.

It will work. But how you will upgrade? If online, you should have working lan or wifi and this demand drivers...

So I will do it this way.

Hmmmm, when I enter DOS flash it says that I have wrong file 'cos it is ECP6xRS.2TR and my project name is P650SE. What is going on... I have Clevo P670RS-G... Shoud I press Y for yes anyway? :) I see you have XMG, so maybe this is reason for you sucsessfull flash...maybe this EX is only for XMG not for all P6x0RS/RP based notebooks :(

In my particular case nothing works. No LAN, no wifi and no USB 3.0 :) So, I removed my ssd, put it into another laptop and copied folder with LAN, wifi etc. drivers.

I'm sorry .. if I understood it correctly you had to do all this mess because if you simply copied the drivers into a usb stick and connect it to the pc it doesn't work?

The thing that sound strange to me is that for example HIDEvolution and other resellers offer Windows 7 installation between the OS avaible when you configure the clevo P670rs-g ..

    1. Install clean win7 from modified USB dongle (with usb 3.0 drivers).
    2. Take out your ssd/hdd and put it into anoter laptop/pc.
    3. Copy folder with desired hardware drivers (drivers for win10 works) - in my opinion it is only way if you have clevo without dvd (portable dvd won't work) and put it back to your Clevo.
    4. Install all drivers.
    3. Activate win7, then upgrade to win10.
    4. Pray to not have storahci.sys errors like I have :D (it was bad luck ;) )

Probably custom bios. On some sites you have to specify which os you plan to install if you don't purchase that feature.

Has anyone had any success overclocking the panel to a higher refresh rate?
    I am on a P651RP6-G, 1060 and g-sync 1080p ips.
Even a few Hz above 60 I get a completely distorted screen, had hoped it would do at least 75Hz but nope.

All u gotta do is change like three settings in bios. Legacy mode, CSM support enabled, and there is a xhci setting thatll allow bios to take some control of usb3 ports for os when needed i think its xhci hand off or something. Ill poke around it when im home

But curiosity... Someone with HID rp6 who has prema bios....pm me I want to send you an ami tool to extract bios so I can look.

i have another 1tb hard drive along with the ssd in my laptop. I plan to install win 7 on the ssd.
In this case could I copy the drivers to the hdd instead so I won't have to pull the ssd out once I installed the OS ?

Thank you for clearing that one up! I am in the same situation as HardCore88 as I want to install Windows 7 and then directly upgrade to Windows 10. What do you mean in step 2 by taking out the ssd/hdd? Whats the thing with that?

Unfortunately, that 15.6" LG panel only hits 63 to 64hz max.

The 17.3" LG panel can hit up to 100hz.

because in order to upgrade to win 10 you need to be online and hence you need drivers for wifi/lan ... you can't copy drivers on the laptop via usb because it won't be recognized .. so you need a way to put the drivers in your laptop

in order to do do so, as I suggested, If you have additional internal storage like hdd, you could avoid step 2, and simply copy the drivers you need to the hdd. If you don't have the hdd, after installing win 7 to the sdd you need to pull it out of the laptop, put it in another laptop and copy the drivers on it. Then you put it back on the P650rs or whatever you have, and install the drivers

Watch yourself reverse engineering Prema's work, if you want to develop something yourself feel free but this community will get hostile if you just start ripping his work.

Oh that wasnt plan anyways. I was just going to use aptioV tools to see if there was module @Prema added to better support w7 apart from what stock clevo bios had since it was said hid offered it with 7 (which ended up being null anyways). Curiosity rather! Thats why i said look :)

Prema's work has done a lot of good for this community hence it protects him and his hard work. You'll have no problems if you do something yourself but like I said if you reverse engineer his work and just start releasing it (remember he is not some huge company but a single person) then you have been warned.

If you have questions then feel free to ask him and he may even help out on things like being suggested.

Ha yeah i trust him more than i do myself with it so poking around ill do outve sheer code curiosity ... releasing anything? Nope nope

If hid really had it and he didnt release anything publicly yet there is a reason and no reason to step over it :)

If its not ready then thats also its own case but I cant even get around smi? Lock yet for general use of bios i modified to unlock controlsets so...yep...not trusting self. Nearly corrupted own system to get it to flash x:

If prema manages to fix that "feature" and you win the silicon lottery and manage to OC it at 4ghz or so... Yeah it could be worth it. But if I'm going to go through such a hassle I would buy a p751dm3 that has way more cpu power
