I used XTU, it saves my profile when restarting, BUT if my pc freezes for some reason or you run out of power, XTU identifies this as BSOD due to undervolt and restores previous values. I cant screenshot if you like, but there are tons of pictures of my exact same setup :) Do you have the 1060 og 1070-model? The latter is suposed to be more quiet due to 4 mm higher chassis and one more heatpipe. Undervolt will help anyways :)

http://www.bing.com/images/search?q...866c896723338e44ddae5e21c368c1f9o0&ajaxhist=0 I just drag the core voltage\core voltage offset (cant remeber what its called on my computer) to the left untill I reach -150.

Guys if you do so massive undervolting like -150, benchmarking/stresstesting does not realy help to show if its stable.
undervolted cpus tend to crash in low and medium operations like watching videos and stuff.
i had -120 and any stresstest went fine. then, playing poe my notebooks did a sudden reboot.
    so -120 was too much.

also if you open XTU and is says something about an error, your undervolting was too much.
ist not like overclocking stuff, keep that in mind. -150 can be done on a few cpus but most of them will not get past -100 for sure.

im stable at -80. last crash to blackscreen was at -85. good enough! some cant get past -40.

    What CPU was that NomadFX?

My previous pcs has consistently crashed during high load when undervolting, the last pc always crashed during Crysis 2 or Far Cry 3, never else. I see that the skylakes voltage varies more than previous gens, perhaps thats some of the reason? In my opinion, undervolt as low as you can, if you sometimes experience crashes the reduce it a bit and go on, there is no downside except instability :) I only tested -150 for 4 hours, but it was very different scenarios with light browsing ,youtubevideos, 2 hours of gaming etc and everyuthing was rock solid.

then congratz, nice cpu then! i did it just like you, started high and decresed whenever my pc behaved strange. down to -80. but still: prime95 is not the best to measure stability for undervolting like it is for overclocking.

Do you have 6700HQ? My last cpu was 4210m and that one I never got beyond -80, tried -85 but crashed often, -80 rock solid :) The standard voltage on them was very different, the 6700HQ ran 200 higher on stock 0,950 vs 1,150. Gues there is more headroom with 1,150 than 0,950 :)

Thank you guys for the perspective on light bleed. I decided to run the light bleed test YouTube video with my HP Spectre 13t ultrabook and there is a fair amount of light bleed. I guess it really doesn't bother me that much ;)

It'd be pretty awesome if Clevo offered 120hz panels w/ g-sync for 1070 versions. Getting a 1070 on a 60hz screen IMO is like full potential just waiting to be unlocked. I like how MSI went 120hz even with their 1060 models, but it's just too expensive to consider compared to Clevo, such a shame really.

Let's make that "pretty awesome" to one more reason to just take a plunge on 1070 model by paying the extra vs. 1060. I mean with 1060, you can already run bf1 at 1080p ultra at ~75fps. I don't know how 1070 will do, but I assume it can easily run at ~100fps. With g-sync, it should look splendid.

my model runs @ 75hz. you dont need gsync anyway unless you scratch 30 fps and below imo.

You don't need g-sync, but g-sync entirely gets rid of stuttering and tearing without input lag. Since you have g-sync, it should be pretty noticeable in situations where you move around a lot with big fps fluctuations regardless of frames or refresh rate of your monitor. You would need to run AAA games at high settings for that, but still. Really nice thing to have. However, I just noticed the models with desktop CPU and 120hz screen does not support g-sync.

I am about to make my order from Dream Machines for a 670RS-G. The only thing bothering me is that there is no QHD GSync panel better than 75Hz. Do you know if there is any European Clevo Seller that offers these types of screens? I might go for 775DM3 as well if they offer such a screen. The thing is I usually game on my lap with a lap cushion and probbaly will not be able to do so with 775DM3.

Do you think that there would be QHD screens with good Hz for 670RS series in the future?

Dream Machines said that these new AUO screens are QHD 120Hz but waiting time for these are around 4-6 weeks. Decisions, decisions...

About 50 pages ago I wrote about my problems with P650rs-g. Whether I connect external display (in discrete GPU mode), system process is eating my one cpu core. This is probably BIOS bug causing hardware interrupt to be constantly generated. Only one person replied and confirmed that has the same problem.

I ask p650rs-g users to check your laptop for this problem. If you don't have this problem please write your hardware configuration and BIOS version.

Alright, i need some advice regarding CPUs. Right now im leaning towards 6820hk tather than the 6700hq as i thnik this should make this model more futureproof, in theory that is. But is it?

The thing is im still struggling to find a reseller based in europe that has an i7-6820hk+gtx1060+german_keyboard in stock. There is one but with a way to high pricetag on it since its based on p651.

Is there any noticeable difference between the two when it comes to say CPU heavy games?

I have had both CPUs in Alienware 15 machines, and the only difference that I have ever noticed is that the 6820 is hotter. I use stock configs though and don't overclock

If you are going with a clevo and can get a Bios that does not pull back the cpu when the Gpu is on heavy load and you're confident enough that you will win the silicon lottery and can overclock the cpu then yes, it's kinda worth it. At the same frequency the 6820hk can match a desktop 6700.

But again, you're bound to your own luck. I'm in the same spot as you. I've seen benchmarks of TW3 and seen how the 6700hq bottlenecks a gtx 1070, plus I want a laptop to edit some videos and the 6700hq is not strong enough for my needs.

Long story short, if you have the money buy what you want. At the end of the day there's a lot of things to take into account to determine if the cpu upgrade it's worth or not

With the 1060 the gpu usually will be the bottleneck anyways. With the 1070 it might be a different story, but if you want to go with the 6820 then for gods sake buy P670 and not P651, the latter struggles enough with temps and emissions as it is ;)

I'm starting to think the P670RP-G is the pick of the litter.

Slightly overclocked, it's almost a stock desktop 980. In a 30mm chassis. Easy to lose sight of that.

The 1070's siren song seduces us all, but I get the feeling it might be most at home in a true DTR with big 'ol fans and a 120hz display.

Pascal is certainly powerful - but it certainly doesn't seem to run as cool as we thought it would.

I owned it for a week but returned it due to size. What I can say is that it used the turbo significantly more than the P651 1060, it was a bit more silent and CPU ran about 5C cooler. I really liked it, but was slightly too big for me :)

The other option you have is wait for Kaby lake and see what brings down to the notebook market. However, Kaby lake is just an overclocked version of skylake so there won't be any huge performance improvements. Plus we all know that playing the waiting game never ends well haha

Hey guys and girls! Just ordered mine too, I had the p640re but the gtx 970m was not the best for rendering 3D artwork. I ordered the P651RS-G with 4K display, 6820hk, gtx 1070, 64GB Ram, Samsung 950 m.2 and 2 Samsung 850 1TB Sata in raid. Will undervolt and repaste it when it comes. The parts I'm installing myself as I bought the computer with 16gb ram and a 7.200 rpm hdd only.

Can't wait to fire up the beast!

I'm a little disappointed in the memory Sager chose to put in my P650RP6. I cracked her open hoping to find some nice low latency name brand memory only to find a brand and model I can find nowhere online. Has anyone ever heard of Goldkey? I believe it is Hynix Semiconductor but I can't find anything online when I type in the part number GKE800SO102408-2400. I guess when I upgrade the memory I'm just going to have to bite the bullet and just replace these lemon sticks!

there is a US reseller who can handle the custom fee. they offer full options including 6820hk and 4K. but for German KB u need to pay for an extra. But it is still cheaper than any eu based reseller.

With some undervolting it could work out, but too little cooling of gpu is the main problem with my P651RS, it gets results a few percent under laptops with better cooling like Asus 752 etc.

Ah, man now the CPU is another thing to mull over.. I did hear about stories of how the 6700 bottlenecks the 1070, but I'm not looking to overclock anything really. Is the temp difference that significant between the 2 CPUs?

The 6820hk will most likely bottleneck the 1070 at stock clocks too lol. If the task you're going so with the laptop are very cpu intensive you can still buy a 6700 desktop on a notebook.

I'm seriously considering it. You lose around 20% of performance from what I've seen because of the 6700hq (on a gtx 1070 in the Witcher 3)

Most games shouldn't stress the CPU much above like 60% but there's a few that do. Witcher 3 can be bad mainly in novigrad. I'm going to do some testing though. This may be mainly due to either hair works, or the population density setting. Turning down the population density a notch may be all that's needed to give the poor CPU a break. Even my 4670k @ 4.2ghz hates that game depending on the location. Lol

The 6700HQ is good enough for the 1070 stop worrying about it...

I have a feeling that the 6820HK will be throttled unless you have a nice cooler it sits on if you overclock it enough to make the difference between it and the 6700HQ. Even then, performance will be negligible in gaming (unless you are playing a CPU heavy game, and there arent tons of those) and the only reason to get the 6820HK is overclocking,(stock performance is not noticeable over the 6700HQ) which I think you will see more of a difference in overclocking the GPU than you will the CPU in 99% of the games out there.

I get my laptop today with the 6700HQ and the 1070, I will run lots of tests on it.

Go check a video review of the aftershock p670rp on youtube (1060 with 6700hq).

You can see the guy hunting three wolves in the woods and the frame rate is of 45fps. Then if you see in the same channel the video review of the p650rs you can see the frame rate of 53fps.

That's a 20% improvement from the 1060 to the 1070. However, the 1070 is supposed to be around 40% faster than the 1060. The other 20% it's not being used by the cpu sadly.

I'm not at home now, but I'll drop you the links later.

Also something to keep in mind, higher temps on the CPU will affect GPU performance because the heat pipes are connected meaning, higher temps on the CPU will in turn raise GPU temps(afaik). I'll be undervolting my 6700hq when it shows up which should improve the cooling situation all around. That being said, the 6820hk is nice because you always have the option to oc if you need to in future. I wouldve gone 6820hk if it was within my budget probably. That being said I don't think most games will push your CPU hard enough to notice. And as someone else pointed out dx12 and vulkan should reduce CPU overhead in games going forward.

Yea I saw those vids. Like I said the Witcher 3 can def be tough on the CPU. When I get home I'm going to do some testing and see if it's bottlenecking me on my desktop. The other possibility is that hair works is absolutely destroying performance. I'm not sure if that taxes CPU or GPU. But it cripples even the strongest of cards. Usually when people benchmark gpus using tw3 on websites they will point out that hair works is disabled. So it seems to have a rather large effect on performance. I'm not saying a faster CPU isn't better. It almost always is(assuming thermals are in check) I'm just saying the 6700hq should be fast enough for the majority of games, though there will always be exceptions of course.

    Edit:
So just checked and all physx simulations in tw3 are run on the CPU, even if you have a GPU dedicated to physx. As such on slower CPUs hair works would really hurt.

As requested I`ve been thinkering some with undervolting. I tried -190, Fallout 4 aond youtube went well for 2 hours, but unigine heaven sunk the ship after a few seconds ;) I now use -185 and unigine, 3Dmark, youtube etc runs stable. Will be back with more info if things crashes again.

On paper the 1070 may be 40% faster than a 1060, sure, but don't expect to experience such linear changes when tested. BTW I'm not saying that the i76700HQ won't bottleneck, but what I'd like to point out is that these such assumptions have to be taken with a pinch of salt

In GPU limited situations you should see that gain.

I ordered g.skill ram for my p651rs. My question is if it's worth going for the higher 2666 MHz or 2800 MHz ?

Pretty sure you wouldn't be able to tell the difference between 2100 and 2800 so get whichever is cheaper imo.

Yea not really sure what sort of application you would need to be running to notice a speed difference in ram(outside of benchmarks). Even slow ram is so quick, it should never be the bottleneck. If anything I would spend the extra money on more ram, rather than faster ram. Though 16gb is probably more than enough for most users. I'd be interested to see if anyone in a blind test between one system running 1333mhz ddr3 and another with 2800mhz DDR4 would be able to identify which system was slower or faster.

Does anyone in here have the 4K Samsung screen? What do you think of it? Is there any test out there? In my p640re the screen was the downside of the computer by far... It was 1080 display... Hope there's no bleeds or stuck pixels

So just found this online. It seems as though in one of the Witcher 3 updates, physx was offloaded to the CPU(likely to free up GPU power for those with weaker cards) but it can be toggled back to the GPU by doing this. "if you still want to run PhysX on the GPU, navigate to your "...Documents/The Witcher 3" folder and make sure the following line is tweaked as follows in your "user.settings" file (use a text editor such as Notepad to open it):

    [Visuals]
    AllowClothSimulationOnGpu=true (default value: false)"

Would be interesting to see the effect of this on a P650RS.
