So you got a 3g/LTE card? If so, could you identify what model you use?

Hey guys, I am considering one of these laptops but am having difficulty finding the information I need. I was hoping I could list the features I want, and you guys could recommend me a model. I am not posting in recommend me a laptop because I know I want one of these, just not sure which one. I attempted to get this information from a retailer, but for some reason was getting little to know response from them. I will try calling tomorrow.

For now though, I would like a gtx 970m, ability to overclock my display as high as possible so need MUX or ability to run discrete, i7. I found the Clevo P650-RE3 on Xotic website, and will barebones it down to get out the door cheaply since I can upgrade it myself later. Can this display be overclocked? Is G-Sync worth it? If I go with G-Sync can I still overclock the display beyond the 75hz?

It depends on what you're going to do/play. I just purchased a P650RE3 from Powernotebooks (and I will recommend you buy from them) and my questions are almost identical with yours.

    As far as I know...

P650RE3 is not upgradeable as the CPU/GPU are soldered.
G-sync is definitely worth it but I don't know if the display can be overclocked. I was asking this too but nobody seem to know the answer.

Hi, I'm glad you are happy so far. :)

The display can be overclocked in dedicated gpu mode.

Meaker, any idea as to the average that you guys have seen how far the G-Sync vs the Stock Tn panel can go? Do you know what panel the G-Sync display is? What about the stock TN? I'm asking about on the P650RE3.

I'm curious, does the 200w PSU give room for better 980m overclocking? I am hopeful I can get the vram to run up to 6ghz as I imagine the chips are rated to run that speed and are downclocked for power reasons.

Edit: I ask because the reviews of the Haswell i7 and 980m from HWingNut are with a 180w psu and he states it just barely is enough for mild overclocking. Being that the the P650RG in the US is sold with a 200w psu, I am slightly excited.

actually that's a good point. the PSU offered with the XMG P506 is 180W. In contrast to the 240W AW15 PSU.

Is there a program that can tell you the model # of your laptop screen without having to open the screen and look at it physically?

You can use the hardware ID in device manager to find out usually.

Anyone here use the headphone output? I noticed it's amplified and has some built in 3d audio function.
I'm thinking to get a regular two channel headset (i.e. the hyperx cloud) instead of a USB "virtual surround" headset (i.e. hyperx cloud II). Thoughts?

I just bought the basic hyperx cloud core version. It is enough as I don't think I need the external usb sound card. The 7.1 surround is just a fake surround. You can use the installed sound blaster xfi mb5 to get the surround effect.

Question: The default clock on GPU-Z for my 980M is at 540 Mhz? Is it underclocking?

Edit: Nevermind, Nvidia inspector & Heaven benchmark showing correct clocks. Thought GPU-Z was more reliable..

How does it sound? Is it good or just okay? Can you tell that it's amplified or "3d"?

Also, what's the difference between the cloud core and the cloud headset? On Amazon the cloud is actually cheaper than the core.

    Thanks!

Second this, currently shopping for a laptop for mostly critical Photoshop work so curious of the 2 display models on offer for the P650RE3. I'm also looking at an MSI PE60, Dell Inspiron 15 or the cheaper NP7258/N155RF since I'm probably never game, and then eventually get a 4k monitor. But in the rare instance that I do want to game on the laptop, the G-sync capability and 970m seem tempting.

You can compare the driver versions based on device manager abd Sager's driver page. I ended up upgrading the wireless via Intel and nvidia drivers from nvidia.

The sound is good..but then this is my second headphone, it is obviously better than my old headphone and it is worth the money spent.
The sound is amplified through the headphone jack. I can hear the sound is much louder when compared using the digital jack. Not sure what you mean by 3d..
Cloud core is just cloud 2 with only basic package, headphone + mic only. Cloud 2 is an upgrade from cloud 1 with better mic and the 7.1 sound. Core is the cheapest in my country, I think you can't go wrong with the cloud 1 either.

For the 3d I meant if you can simulate the surround sound effect. The cloud 2 "simulates" surround sound because it only has 2 drivers (speakers) still.

Thank you for the info, I'll definitely get the cloud 1 either way!

You need to switch graphics mode to MS Hybrid by pressing a key combo.. Then you can install Intel driver.. Currently you are in dedicated only mode hence it doesn't install..

    I'm a bit confused.

    * If I choose Dedicated over MSHYBRID, will that means that Optimus will be used? Will this mean that integrated GPU will be used along dedicated GPU?
    * Is MSHYBRID something totally different than Optimus?

I just want to clearly understand so I can configure my laptop for best results!

What's the fastest RAM I can get for this? Should I just stick with the 16GB of 2133Mhz that comes built from powernotebook.com or should I get my own 2600Mhz CL15 RAM?

The speed increase will make no difference in most tasks and should only be done if the rest of the system is maxed out.

Hello everyone, I'm looking forward to buy a P650RE6 and the G-Sync version costs 110€ more than the no g-sync version and that's really out of my budget right now sooooooooooo...

    - Is it possible to add g-sync later? swapping the screen or something like that? since I guess the GTX 970M (6GB Version) supports it already.

    Greetings

MSHYBRID and Optimus are effectively the same thing. In this mode, your machine will make an educated guess about whether it should use the integrated or discrete graphics to power a given application. You can manually select which applications use which GPU in the Nvidia control panel.

In DISCRETE mode, the integrated GPU is turned off and the dedicated Nvidia GPU handles all video processing. You will get much shorter battery life in this mode and your laptop will run warmer and louder.

Thanks a lot for your response @frank_the_bunny, it seems that the smart choice or balanced choice is to go MSHYBRID :)

For what I've read, I need to install both Nvidia drivers and Intel drivers, correct?

Yep, install both, but make sure to install them in MSHYBRID mode.
Get the Intel driver first, reboot, and then get the NVidia one.

I had a bad experience with a P650RE3 not to long ago.

Horrible screen flex and seems the lcd panel was pinched very bad in the top left and right corners.

Does anyone exhibit the same issues? I want to give the laptop another shot. I had a Eurocom M5 Pro (same chassis) and that one didn't have that issue. Screen chassis also seemed more sturdy too.

I tried to take a picture but it looks worse than it really it is. On camera it actually looks like his picture ( again, not that bad in reality). It's much less obvious with a lighter wallpaper or a game. I'm not happy about it but I decided to deal with it.

I ordered mine from XoticPC, but from what I understand, it came straight from Sager since I didn't customize anything.

    How about you?

My purchase was through XoticPC as well and yes they do come straight from Sager.

As far as it looking worse on picture, I can't agree with you on that.. Mine in person literally was just about as bad as the guy's picture I linked to. I had the 4K Samsung Panel so I am not sure if that had anything to do with it. The Eurocom M5 PRO I had came with a Panasonic Retina 3K display and though there was back light bleeding, it was nothing near as severe as the P650RE3 I received. It is the plastic bezel piece though, after un-clipping a few spots in the corner the bleed became less noticeable. I may just have to "dead with it" and live with the P650RE3. I like the over form factor and cooling ability from this chassis.
