Its driver issues... It will be months before nVidia actually fixes their mess...

They run flawlessly for me. No throttling in games and the fans only kick on very rarely.

Full run... everything including the horrible demoes.

Sorry but they throttle in benches.

Each card manages its own TDP so they may not always match. To get the most you really have to let them breathe TDP wise.

These fluctuations usually only happen in SLI, as far as I've seen. But then again I don't own them so I can't check myself.

Is that throttling or just adaptive clocks? Don't the clocks drop in between tests n demoes?

You hit the nail on the head.. The SLI fluctuations seem to be occuring even more with Maxwell with this Asic crap causing all the voltages to go all over the place when ocing each card... NVIDIA really needs to get it's act together.. driver problems are too many for Maxwell..

They've been happening since the 880M but they seem much better now than before and only really seem to do it in benches. I'll run fire strike with SLI off and report back.

1318 was the most I got before 89C at which point they throttled... 1280 then 1200 then 1030...these are all ish but I watched it happen.

Ok does anyone knows why I can't update to 347.09 from 344.75? I tried to modify it and have the name of the device manually recognized but still giving my the graphic driver can't find a compatible hardware message. Is that an nvidia error or my 980 SLI have a problem?

nVidia SLI problem. Set your SLI to single GPU mode and install, then re-enable SLI. Enjoy.

Thank you sir I appreciate your help and your time. I'm very new to the SLI. I assume changing The SLI to single GPU is via the nvidia control panel?

I'm also having probs with this, disabled SLI while on 344.75, rebooted then started 347.09 install but same error message about no compatible devices found. Any other tricks needed?

Quick issue report here, I found sometimes the gpu clocks etc were fine but on benches/games the utilization would drop to less than half the fps would stutter and this would remain so until I rebooted.
I was in high power on windows options and if I switched to balanced power then it would work fine. I've since reset my power options via powercfg and retesting.

Try change the SLI to single GPU and then use display Driver Uninstaller and see if that help. I didn't try it yet but I will and hopefully it will work.

It is, under "set SLI and PhysX configuration".

nVidia themselves mentioned that problem where it was incapable of installing on SLI 900(M) series machines. Desktop users have the issue too apparently. I was told reverting to single GPU, installing, then re-enabling SLI would work... but if it doesn't for you I suggest you take it up with nVidia. You own two of their overpriced, cut-down GTX 970s, so they best help you. I feel harsh this morning. 980M should have been full GM204.

Apart from no SLI and Maxwell OC support this system is not supported by the 347.09 beta driver inf at all.

These things on this driver have been done intentionally by NVIDIA to tackle a throttle issue of new Maxwell cards that happens even on stock clocks on certain systems.

Thank you guys both. Yes that's indeed right what Prema
Said. I tried to install the 347.09 on clean system it didn't work. I tried to install the 344.75 and it installed without any issues. It's indeed the new driver problem. Again thank you both for your help and your time.

Yeah I'm sticking with 344 for now.
I'm surprised by the BIOS options, somehow I expected a lot more options, but it seems rather basic, but then what do I know lol.

Anyway, where do we check on the latest Bios updates? I can't seem to find anywhere to check for updates? Also is there ever a reason or need to update the VBios? Just curious.

For bios check @Prema site: WWW.premamod.com he has stock BIOS there and modified ones too. Make sure you don't end up flashing an old bios/ec in your system.

Hi thanks. So this one here:
    https://biosmods.wordpress.com/p377sm-a/

Has anybody here installed this on their Clevo P377SM-A?

Edit: I downloaded the Rufus program he suggests in the readme. The directions say make a bootable MD-Dos drive on the USB, is that the Fat32 option in Rufus? Edit, NM I see.. Is there a good tutorial on how to do this?

Another edit (to avoid double/tripple posting)
For example, what should the settings be on this? Does this look right?

Sorry for being dense but does the like from you Prema mean that the setup is right?

Also to cover all possible issues, there are two steps, what if after step 1 is done and its time to do step 2 and I hit F7 for step 2 but for some reason its not fast enough or for some reason it doesn't register fast enough and it goes to boot from windows, with that kill my system?

Sorry if this is a stupid question.

Yes, your Rufus settings are good and no it won't kill the system by being too slow, but you should then repeat step1 in order to make sure the flash descriptor is being unlocked before proceeding with step2 to flash the Mod.

Prema, is there a way to backup the existing bios before I flash the modded ones? My bios looks like a customized mythlogic one and I want to able to revert in case I need to ship it back for repairs etc.

While we can make backups, I do NOT recommend to flash them as downgrading to some old BIOS dump without matching EC often results in problems...
All my Mods and Stock BIOS flash matching versions in one single run to ensure safety!

Anyway, while having all files on the USB stick in pure DOS, you can simply type:

    afudos backup.rom /o

Cool, how much extra options are there?

    Edit:
    After checking my current bios:
    Brand American Megatrends Inc.
    Version 4.6.5
    Date 10/31/2014

I think I will wait for Prema's next update as the latest updated file in his mod is a month and a half older then the version release date of the version I have now.

Posted this on the MSI owners lounge as well, wanted to hear from both sides:

Hello everyone, was about to pull the trigger on the GT72 Dominator pro (reading this thread made me 99% sure I wanted this laptop). Upon reading reviews and comparisons, I came across this:

    Clevo P377SM-A with dual gtx980m-sli

I'm looking at spending around $3000 give or take a few hundred and both fit the bill. My last gaming laptop was a lenovo y500 which just crapped out on me but has served me well the last 3yrs or so. If I went with the gt72, it will be spec'd out mostly with storage and memory super raid-0 and all, but if I went with the P377sm-a I'll sacrifice memory/storage for the gtx980sli. Yes, I could always add storage later (probably much cheaper by the time I need to, also have windows 8.1pro still sitting in the box). I do travel a lot and will be using the laptop for 80% gaming 20% everything else (video edit and such). Saw the msi gt80 and thought it was just too big and bulky for travel so thats out of the picture.

Soooo... should I still go with the GT72 or Clevo P377SM-A? Any thoughts would be much appreciated!!

Since SLI 980Ms costs similar to a single GPU system with a weaker CPU... I don't see why you wouldn't go with that?

I'd say 4810MQ CPU, SLI 980Ms, dvd burner (saves you like $25 over blu-ray), 3 year warranty, and it's just under $3000 with the cash discount. The 120GB SSD is enough for your OS and programs, and as you know you can add stuff later.

Hey guys what nvidia driver version of 344 are you using? I'm using 344.00 but there are several versions (like 344.32 at Clevo which I'm downloading now)

Also if its of any help, there is a 344.80 hotfix for the notebooks here

Well I absolutely love love my P377SM-A. Its blazing fast, stays cool and can shred any game you throw at it. I'm not a benchmark guy but Ethrem is and hes posted allot of benchmarks on this system if you want to see what it can do. (which I thank you for Ethrem as its nice to see what it can do, I personally don't have the patience to run those)

If you just want full world domination power, the Panther 5 (which is a Clevo) will blow this and that GT72 Dominator pro away, and you can put 980 Sli's in it now. Eurocom Panther 5 you can get it with a 120hz screen and they even have a 3D version of it. (I would venture to say its the most powerful laptop in the world)

Personally my choice for this laptop was storage as I need a ton of it and since it can host 5 drives (which I maxed out each), it was a no brainer for me.

Prema I'm sorry to bother you with this. I just flashed your bios on my np9377 and I followed everything you have on the guide but when I load the system now it shows me missing operating system. Do you have an idea about that? Thank you in advance.

Edit : it turns out that the system was booting in both UEFI and Legacy. I ended up putting it on legacy only then reboot and installed a new system. Thank you again for your time guys and to you also Prema :)

If it ain't there then no need to worry about it.
As the readme file says: if your Windows was installed in Win8/UEFI mode you simply have to set it back to it after the flash (same for every BIOS flash, stock or mod)...no need to reinstall Windows. ;)

Ok I did a clean install but now I'm stuck in some issue that seems not even Google can find a solution for. The fn key stopped working and I can't change the brightness on my screen. I looked in all the drivers in sager np9377 but nothing could help. I have a Windows 7 ultimate with the hotkey app installed and the nvidia driver is 344.75.

Prema any help would be great. I can't find a way to re-activate the fn key nor to get the brightness to work. I know they are normally work together. Thank you again.

Thanks for the responses helping me pick. Quick question though,

Any real benefits to ordering i7-4810 vs i7-4710 since I'll only use this laptop for gaming?

What's the real time db on fan when on full load and no load? Can't seem to find that anywhere but I presume it will sound like a jumbo jet taking off due to dual videocards as compared to the gt72 which I heard was very quiet?

4810 is faster then 4710. Go for 4810
