I already have windows 8.1 pro so I don't want windows installed. but in that case do the resellers check everything in the computer that it is working or do they send it without checking ??
also, if I'm not interested in overclocking, do I need extra heat sinks ??
thank you for this great community.

980m seems to run the fans more than my 970m did, normal?

Yes it's a hotter card. As long as temps look fine don't worry about it.

And if you send in the machine there is a chance they will wipe it and put a fresh install. They did it both times I've sent it in despite me making an account with no password and including that info on the paper.

Higher clocks, more shaders, more GDDR5 memory chips. It all uses more power.

    Hey guys, quick question.

I am really thinking about the Auros X7 Pro.

How would you consider the Aurox X7 Pro vs the Sager NP377-S?

    970M vs 980M?

One is slim and does not throttle according to some owners. What do you guys think of these two laptops?

    Also ...

Are you able to run this laptop on intel only video card to where you could get 5 hours of battery life like for running word only for taking notes?

Does anyone know if you can boot into the intel graphics only or switch to the intel graphics only to get a little better battery life instead of the Dual SLI 980M's?

Guys what do you think about NP9377-S vs Alienware 18 both with 980M SLI?

I know the Alienware 18 is not out yet but what essentially is the difference?

    Savings?
    Hardware?
    What's the basic differences?

Like the 880M SLI vs This one?

    Thanks!

I suppose... its time to post... Haven't tweaked them yet...

And I don't know what Sager did to my machine... I KNEW I had a bad heatsink... 4.2GHz on stock IC Diamond @ 90C max.

By the way, these cards don't turn the fans on at all... its super rare and they go off super fast. Whisper. ing. Quiet.

Then the banes of my existence that used to burn the HELL out of my 880s and still not maintain framerates

    Sleeping Dogs

    Watch Dogs

... Said I'd get around to it. Still not feeling great. But this machine...

I don't know what Sager did with the heatsink but with liquid ultra I had to run it at 70W before slowdown... now that's 90W and still not passing 90 (hits it but 90W on my old heatsink would have BURNED) and my machine is whisper quiet 99.9% of the time, fans don't even kick on during gaming until its been over hour.

Amazing machine. Highly recommended. And I need to email XOTIC and Sager and thank them for doing the right thing and fixing it. It never should have been idling at 50C out of the box... this idles at 38 overclocked...

And I should point out Watch Dogs is running 8x MSAA in that run...

Congrats Ethrem, after more than half a year of suffering I'm glad that your machine is finally working as intended and living up to your expectations.

I honestly wouldn't worry about the lid too much though, the Toshiba in my sig I used to lug around daily while in grad school, and this thing was far more flimsy than the Clevo. Flexes like no tomorrow, and the screen bezel I could pry off with just my fingernails.

Thing is 20-26% slower than SLI 980... And my fans are so silent... Its omg. Finally! It's quieter than my beloved M17xR1 which kicked the fans up if you watched a video...

Wow right as I said that my CPU fan shut off for the first time ever. It's idling at 41 at 4.2GHz!

If you used Liquid Ultra on this new CPU heatsink, you might be able to eek out another 200MHz or so.

I'm not cracking anything until the heat rises. Whatever they did... I don't want to much it up. And yes Joluke but 680M would be an upgrade from 880M IMO.

They still throttle in benches but in real use, its super rare they don't boost even!

Wow, what power draw n voltage is that cpu running at for such idle temps? My 4910MQ sits at 48 degrees idle with 40x clocks but on high power scheme and uses 10-12W with about 5% cpu usage from browsers etc.
I also have ic diamond but I max power draw at 70W to keep temps below 95 degrees fully loaded on h265 encoding.
Would love a decent cpu hratsink, where can we buy one?

Don't have a way of measuring the power draw but I have 660W going to it (adapter I bought, same one they use for the P570WM).

The heatsink is really a crap shoot. My last one idled like yours did and the damn fan was on all the time so I'd turn on the power several night to lock it to 800MHz so I could sleep. This time it looks like they actually tested die contact or I got insanely lucky. Most people lap their heatsinks to flatten them but with my old one, it didn't touch the die except the edges so the paste actually completed the connection. It was a terrible heatsink.

Take a look in Intel XTU or coretemp to see the power draw of the cpu on idle and in stress.

You must be using balanced power profile if you get 5W idle. My temps can drop to high 30s if I use balanced profile where the cpu idles to 800Mhz and much lower voltages. I used to hit 72W at 3.9Ghz all loaded with voltages at 1.179. Once I capped power at 70W I noticed 40x multiplier ran over 1.2 volts. It definitely guzzles power each multiplier over 37x for me and keeping it cool is the bottleneck.

Etherm how is your 4940MX idling at less then 40C with it at 4.2GHz? Mine does 50C :(... Also don't know about the bosot problems your'e having with the 980M's but my 970Ms have been boosting all the time in every game I'm playing... Like literally they run at full boost clocks throughout the game.. I've never seen them run at stock speeds.. I think you might need an unlocked vBIOS to sort out this issue...

ok, regarding this model, i have a 980m sli, but it only comes with hdmi out and thunderbolt port

how do I use an external monitor with this setup?

the reason why I ask is, as far as im aware, i cannot connect my asus vg248qe (which I use on my desktop) to this laptop through any means due to the cable restrictions

So please, could anyone recommend me some good monitors befitting the 980m sli setup, and how I would go about connecting it to this laptop

The Fn+F5/F6 combinations doesn't work and I don't have any brightness options in the energy settings. :-(

I'm not an idiot, I made sure it's on high performance. Don't know what to tell you. Do you have a y background programs using the CPU? Because this a fresh install straight from Sager and has nothing running in the background. [IMG]
They must have made damn sure to give me a great heatsink this time around.

As for boost, all games boost 100% of the time but benchmarks throttle as always.

Is this a fresh install? You need the hotkey app installed, its on the driver disk that it came with.

If you didn't install that, my recommendation is to do a clean install and install each driver on that disc in the order that it says to or you'll have more issues down the line.

That's some amazing voodoo that they did there! How the heck can it draw only 5W on idle at 4.1G? Curious what is the voltage at idle? Mine stays at 1.179V for 40 multiplier and 10W+, only time I've seen 5W is when it steps down to 800Mhz n voltage drops to 0.6v or so.

Does it not work through the displayport output? That's all I've ever used with my 4k display @ 60 hz. I can run 1080 @ 85. Not sure what the upper limitation of displayport is. The displayport can also do thunderbolt but I dont have any thunderbolt devices so i can't speak about that.

Pretty sure the thunderbolt port also works as displayport out. I was also looking to get a gsync monitor but already use the thunderbolt out for a disk array. Any ideas if I can just daisy chain that to a displayport monitor?

I experimented further with XTU, setting processor input voltage to +0.020v then adjust dynamic cpu voltage offset to -50mv gave me lower VIDs! However the power consumed seems just as high as previously:

Not certain if this is related but when I was playing games I noticed sometimes the gpu1 and gpu2 clocks/memory speeds didn't match. Then I noticed I had Chrome open in the background running a webpage with flash. This seems to impact the load clocks of the gpus when gaming.
