Good point on the pricing. I agree and would not get a 675m either since it is old tech and a rebranded gpu. I hope AMD does fix their issues they owe it to their customers.

This model(p370em) doesn't have any issues with 7970m, because enduro and optimus are disabled here. Latest beta from AMD gave significant boost in performance. Mine went from 5800 in 3D Mark11 to 6500 points.

    Rebkos,
Could you do me a favor and run Crystal Disk Mark x64 on your 256GB mSATA Crucial M4 SSD?
Defaults on Crystal Disk Mark (5x1000MB) takes less than 5 minutes.
Download link to the portable version:
    CrystalDiskMark3_0_2c.zip
    Thanks!

Just remember that m-sata posrt here is SATA 2. Here is what Meaker once told me about it "mSATA is great, even at SATA II speeds, you wont notice the difference to SATA III, all the small file performance is still there and that's what counts.". I couldn't say better

    Thanks Tim4 & Rebkos. I appreciate it.

I'm considering getting another 256GB Crucial M4 and setting up RAID 0. But I still have nightmares from a RAID 0 setup on a M17x R1.

Do you know if the storage controller on these notebooks is hardware-based, or software-based? In enterprise servers, when running RAID, a large PCI-card hardware storage controller is recommended and is usually more reliable with consistent speeds compared to the onboard ports running software. Maybe there's a chip on the P370 mobo? No idea.

    **Edit**
Ok, it seems that all storage is controlled by the motherboard's firmware. So unlike enterprise servers, there's no dedicated chip controlling only the drives, but a multi-duty ROM chip(s) on the mobo (is it the BIOS, EC, Option ROM, or CMOS chip?). Intel Matrix/Rapid Storage Technology is built-in for managing the array.

I wonder when running RAID 5 with 3 drives how efficiently parity is handled, and what the write performance is.

Here's my latest scores to anyone who cares :)

These are achieved using modded VBIOS over a techinferno for Clevo 680m 4gb which are OC unlocked and nearly eliminate throttling and AB OC of +135/+500 GPU/MEM PhysX (PPU) enabled:

is this normal? I think not! pretty sure number 2 gpu is shot. Hopefully sager replaces it and don't beat around the bush.
And the fans are running, with a laptop cooler, all updates on game and beta 8 on gpu. This is on a 7970 crossfire.

Was in the market for a gaming laptop and after much searching and deliberation I chose to go with the safer np9370 (through xoticpc). Due to certain budget constraints I wasn't able to get an nvidia 680m and this would be the first amd card in my 15 years of gaming/pc fiddling. I was recommended this card over the alignment 670 and the 675mx in another setup, and yet I haven't been able to see any benchmarks. Also how OC-able is the system? I'm familiar with overclocking a desktop but never a laptop due to multiple factors. Also in a review of the 9170 I saw the mic was right above the mouse track pad, and is that still the case?

All in all lookin forward to messing w this laptop as I've heard nothing but praises for this particular model.

Well, overall im really happy with my laptop, except for the touchpad, which is just awfull, but i use mouse mostly so its not that big deal.

I was really looking forward to hear those Onkyo speakers. Well, sound is quite decent, even subwofer does something. But it feels so quiet on top volume, is it only me? For movies or even louder music its just not enough. I can boost it in VLC a bit, but then its starts sound kind of crapy. My six years old laptop sounds much louder on top volume...

Hey, what GPU did you end up going with? It sounds like the 7970 but I couldn't quite tell.

The microphone placement has actually changed to up near the webcam.

Yes, I did end up going with the 7970. I'm researching drivers and other matters since i've never had an AMD card. I still am not able to find any benchmarks with this card alone.

Notebookcheck.net has drivers up but they aren't the most current as the beta drivers increase performance by a good amount. It still out performs the 670 and 675 options in SLI though so it's a good choice of the single card especially since you don't have to be concerned about the Enduro issues.

Hi guys ! I bought a p370 with SLI gtx680m (oh god I feel so terrible for spending so much money :'< but I travel a lot so desktop wasn't an option as I intend to keep this 3D laptop for at least 4 years, on top settings for games and calculations / simulations). I just wondered, should I buy a laptop cooler please ? If so, which model do you recommend given the fan disposition of the p370 ? I have no idea, I used to have desktops so this wasn't really an issue. I'll be playing a lot with the laptop on my thighs. Also, I'm the kind of guy who like getting a config and have it running optimally til I have to change it - in other words, I usually oc'ed my desktops as soon as I got them. Should I do it on this laptop, or should I wait for the need to be felt ? Thanks guys, I feel less guilty knowing there are other people spending as much money as me on laptops (well, in fact, in my university, more than half of the students have the macbook pro retina 2800$, so when you add the 15% taxes, I just lol at how the p370 is >> for less money).

Edit : also, I was considering adding a seagate xt momentus 750 gb (ref : ST750LX003) as I still have a free bay (other is ssd). Would you recommend this hdd ? It seems to be pretty good in terms of performance compared to the other hdd's, and costs about as much after violent price matchings :p. The only con that I read was people complaining about the heat, but since some of you might have it on the p370, your opinion would be more valuable.
Edit 2 : the laptop isn't very pretty either, did anybody try to put a laptop skin on it ? Do they fit ? Thanks !

Congrats on the new system! Any cooler fitted for 17" machines will work, but it might be beneficial to match the fan placement on the cooler similarly to that on machine. Or just get one with a giant fan in the center. Plenty of people don't need one though, the only reason I'd recommend you getting one is being a lap use. Not much airflow and it'll heat your lap pretty well.

I'd definitely wait for OCing until you need to. Might as well take chances when you don't need to.

The seagate isn't a bad choice, I've heard the same thing about the heat issues possible but haven't ran into it causing any trouble so far, just heat conscious users taking note. A normal 7200 rpm drive won't be too much of a difference if you're just using it for storage and saves you a little more money.

Our skinning process is custom fitted so they always fit, haven't heard of too many aftermarket skin jobs working for this model though. That might take some alteration of the skin when you find one you like and you might have to deal with it not covering everything due to the thickness of the unit.

You would need to up the voltage on the core to get higher clocks (which requires a bios flash).

Not bad scores though, did you get it to avoid enduro or are you thinking of adding a second card later?

    Kind of both :)

Enduro is not that big deal, since i can get around 3 hours out of this machine without it. I dont have to worry about utilization, just about AMD doing decent drivers in time.

And if single 7970M starts losing breath, i will be adding 2nd one. Unless of course there will be some major breakthrough in IT and i will have to get something completely new.

P370EM weights and nearly cost same as P170EM, but personally i think its bit better, so i hesitated only for few minutes.

As for the voltage, i know about this. But now, the power is just enough, so i will be dealing with OC later in year or more. I was just curious, how much i can get out of it. Im running in on stock for now and its fine :)

@Derek : Would the Notepal U3 be a good choice then ? It seems that it can be used as a stand (but I'm not sure if anybody is actually gonna need a stand on a 17", since you're not gonna watch a movie 2m away...) and that you can move the fans. But it's huge, at least bigger than 17" laptops. I could get the U2 for 5$ too but the fans aren't adjustable and it might be too small for the p370. There also the ergostand. Which one would you recommend ? Thanks !

Thanks for your post! It seems I'm on the same boat as you, I was debating between 9170 and 9370 and opted for the latter due to possibility of adding a second card in the future. I assume the gaming experience with amd 7970M has been smooth?

I'm currently awaiting shipment of my unit, which seems to identical to yours in just about every way, so just trying to get as much information as I can, and especially since it'll be my first amd card in 15 years.

    7970M is surprisingly quite good.

BF3 everthing maxed out. Benchmark started at 2nd mission in campaign on parking lot.
    2012-12-01 14:16:39 - bf3
    Frames: 19482 - Time: 369660ms - Avg: 52.702 - Min: 28 - Max: 91
    12.11 Beta8 drivers. GPU Utilization 99%.

Then, after nearly 2 straight hours of BF3, max temp on GPU 71°C, on CPU 68°C.

Yesterday i briefly tried Skyrim, only for few minutes. And also, everthing maxed, all was running very smooth, fps 45-55. I think a didnt saw drop below 30.

And another good thing, during those 2 hours of BF3, fans went on full speed only once and it was for like 30 seconds or so. I think it was the GPU fan though. Other than that, fans were running, but i barely noticed during the play.

So far im very pleased with almost everthing. Besides touchpad and slightly quiter speakers than i expected.

I personally haven't tested any coolers out with the 9370 in all honestly and it's not often I'm allowed to play with one because the production guys hog them claiming "we have to finish upgrading it" but from what I can see on that Notepal it'd likely work pretty well.

    Hi all,

    I have recently (2 days ago) bought a np9370.

I've been running some tests on it and I think there is something wrong. My 3DMark06 score was 7,7k. That is extremely low for my specs:

    CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-3630QM CPU @ 2,4GHz
    MEM: 16GB @ 1600MHz
    GPU: Geforce GTX680M

I think there might be a problem with the processor becaise the CPU benchmark on the 3DMark06 is giving me 1FPS...

Any help or thoughts on this, please?

    Thank you.

That could be it, I'm not sure. I downloaded 3DMarkVantage and i scored 21,9 though which is what it is supposed to be scoring so I guess it's working now =]

Thanks for the alert, if that happens again I know what it might be.

My power brick does this weird noise though, I'm not sure if that is normal. It kindda sounds like a Hard Drive spinning.

Overall the laptop is really awesome.

Hey, guys, have a quick question for you... Tried to run WoW on this machine with 7970M CF and seems my 2nd GPU don't work in the game. The fps is the same as with single card. Do you happen to know if CF is supported in the title? Thank you

"Nvidia and AMD support WoW by updating the SLI/Crossfire profiles. WoW does not support Nvidia and AMD in this matter.

In Short, it works but only as much as Nvidia and AMD can code it to. WoW doesn't split the load very well and in some cases Single cards/disabling SLI/CF outperform"

    Hey guys!

Was wondering if you guys had any recommendations for laptop sleeves for the 9370!

I was looking around for a cheap one on amazon, but the closest I could find was this, there're no measurements so I don't know how big it is:
Amazon.com: Splash Resistant Neoprene Laptop Case For Alienware M18x 18.4" By DURAGADGET: Computers & Accessories

Do you guys think this will fit?
    Amazon.com: Case Logic LAPS-117 17 - 17.3 -Inch Laptop Sleeve (Black): Computers & Accessories

What did you guys get to protect your laptop if you put it in a backpack, etc?

Yes i did. And all Fn+Fx keys works just fine in windows and games except for the sound. Sound works only in windows, but when i run Skyrim or BF3 i cant change volume or mute it, its just dont do anything.

Im using W7. Tried reinstalling it 3 times, no luck :(

Is there some kind of settings for hotkey? I just dont understand it, everything else works in games, even turning off screen, sleep and all other stuff. Just not volume :( Thats really unfortunate, i need sometimes to mute it or even to adjust volumem but i have to go to game menu or windows, just so anoying :(

No one else is having this?

edit: I just tried installing older version 6.0058 from dvd and still not working, damn :(
