Guys - just plugged in an external monitor (hdmi cable) and it goes black each time I run something that requires uac privileges. Doesn't happen when just on laptop screen. Any suggestions?

EDIT - Having gone through all the HDMI and Display Port cables in my house to no avail (and in the process turning my attic into something out of a post apocalyptic horror), I found the solution was to open the Nvidia (not Intel) control panel and force 980M over iGPU. All the blank screening seems to have gone away.

That does seem very odd, double check your IGP multi monitor settings.

Does this machine have the same (bad) keyboard as the P170EM?
If so, then I have a nice chiclet Steelseries keyboard available for whoever wants it.

The warranty on these machines depends on the resellers or on Clevo itself?

Clevo has a standard warranty but you can extend it depending on the reseller.

Hi, I have a Sager NP8275 (Clevo P170SM) and the screen seem to get punctured last night, how I'm not sure, but it has multiple vertical/horizontal streaks around the puncture so it needs to be replaced. Where can I purchase a replacement screen? (I'm not sure if I need to replace just the screen or the whole monitor either). Is it better to just sent the laptop to the reseller that I purchased it from and pay for monitor+labor? I've replaced a screen on my old laptop before, it wasn't hard but the cable placement when I did it wasn't neat and I don't know if this particular model will be easy or hard to change

If you have done it before it holds no surprises and is as normal. It's a 40 pin LVDS 17.3" panel (the 90% gamut AUO panel is a good choice if you can find one).

Allright thanks Meaker. Yeah I was looking at the 90% gamut one before but decided against it because of the price... hopefully it will have gone down a bit xD

Hmmm they're actually quite affordable on eBay. Unfortunately all listings say that if that particular panel should be unavailable they'll ship a compatible panel. We can all guess what that means...

Yep. I bought a glossy screen used off ebay because I wanted a specific screen. It worked out for me.

You have to be very careful with ebay auctions and even some other sites that sell panels. You may not get the exact one you are shopping for. Watch out for the word "compatible", which simply means you get whatever screen they have in stock that will work.

Does anybody have issues with the sentellic trackpad on the P177SM-A? Mine used to work fine but now I'm getting some weird jittering and sometimes it's not registering movement, stopping halfway through drawing a line for example. It's not the mouse as that happens regardless if it's plugged in or not. Not the driver either since it's the same I've always used.

A fresh install will be your best choice, especially when going from HDD to SSD. Often times you will get errors when you clone it.

If you do decide to go ahead, make sure the program is specifically designed for HDD -> SSD cloning, like the samsung software they include with some of their drives.

    hi guys,

first post on this forum for me even though I have been reading quite often this forum full of great advises on a regular basis since years ago...

I am coming to you since I got a serious issuewith my Clevo 170SM:

I am spending load of time on world of tanks, and since last update 9.5, I got way too many game crashes... eventually, I lowered all the setting to a minimum. Often FPS will stay over 100 range and yet still get game crashes! Overmore I now got blue screen...

"the driver is mismanaging system PTES"

I took out one RAM (2X8gb GEIL) and it was working with couple gale crashes but was acceptable... until yesterday when I got that blue screen again and can t boot the laptop anymore with or without both RAM slot
unfortunately I don t have spare part to replace GPU, CPU nor RAM or hdd so if you would have any advises that would be welcome!

GPU is an nvidia 770M I have format mu SDD Lite on coupls days ago and upadated with the latest nividia drivers available (tried olders too).

CPU is an i7 4800 MQ

Computer was never to be overclocked nor the cpu nor gpu always used with a notebook cooler (intense use on WOT and FSX) and took off the plastic grid for better cooling...
regular fan and rad cleaning and systemic cpu and gpu pasting...

I now can t get anything out of it anymore!
I tried a 2.5' hdd but no success either!

    Any advises?

    Davy

You could try the other set of slots under the keyboard, but you may want to send it into your reseller to have a look.

I have with me a P170SM that desperately needs a new owner. I am curious; how should I go about setting up the internal SSD/HDD storage combo for optimal resale value?

The drives I have available are:

    - Kingston Hyper X 3K 240GB
    - Sandisk Extreme II 240GB
    - 5400rpm HDD

Should I put just the one SSD in there to lower the cost? Or slap both SSD's to boost storage space? I kinda want to keep the HDD for use as external storage so that would be a last resort if people think it needs more storage to be more attractive to a potential buyer.

Obviously, once it's ready it'll go up on the marketplace so for now I'm just asking your opinions on the internal storage configuration, this is not intended to be an advertisement.

Hey. I have a P177SM currently with a 780M GPU. Not quite at that stage yet, but I was just wondering what the options are for upgraded GPUs? I've tried to find a supported GPU list, but to no avail.

Is it even possible to Upgrade? Obviously from a BIOS point of view, rather than physically. Is a custom BIOS required?

    Thanks in advance.

I decided to put both SSDs in there with the faster Sandisk as the OS drive, as I read up that TRIM doesn't work on external SSDs which is a darn shame. I never noticed a big performance boost using the SSDs compared to using HDDs as external storage drives through USB 3.0 anyway and there's no room left in my P651SG to fit them. Might as well plop them both in and make the thing more attractive to potential buyers!

Currently listed the P170SM on eBay where it has a starting bid of £600, which to be honest will be an absolute bargain for the bidder if they end up winning (still 8 days left though so early days yet).

Just purchased a P177sm-a, 4710MQ 16GB RAM, 980m gotta say im loving this machine. Got a few questions though.

    1. Pretty sure i'm in the correct owners lounge but not 100% sure :)
    2. I've read alot about Premamod bios updates, and if i understand it right its mainly for OCing the CPU/GPU correct?
    3. I have the Intel Dual band Wireless AC 7260 with bluetooth, and I keep getting bluetooth drops from my mouse, is there a fix for this?

    Thank in advance

Yeah use a mouse with a real radio. But seriously, try different drivers or reinstalling current drivers. Or you may need new batteries.

Hello all, I'm relatively new to these forums and my P170SM-A just came in from Mythlogic (awesome service for the record). Just here to post a few temps to see if my laptop is performing right.

Mobile Chassis: MYTHLOGIC Nyx 1713-A Black Chassis (Clevo P170SM-A)
Mobile Display: 17.3" Full HD (1920x1080) MatteLED Backlit LCD
Monitor Calibration: Free MYTH Professional Monitor Color Calibration
    CPU: Intel Core i7-4710MQ 2.5GHz, 6M L3 Cache, 22nm, DDR3L-1600MHz, Quad-Core Mobile Processor
Thermal Compound: Free IC Diamond Thermal Compound
    System Memory: 16GB (2 x 8GB) , PC3-12800, 1600MHz SODIMM
Video Adapter: nVIDIA GeForce GTX 980M 8GB GDDR5 with nVIDIA Optimus Technology
    Optical: Notebook Black 6X BD-ROM/5X DVD+RW Blu-Ray Combo Drive
Hard Drive: 1TB 7200 32MB Cache SATA Notebook Hard Drive (120gb Msata ssd boot drive)
Keyboard: Standard Backlit Keyboard - NON Chiclet
Network Card: Onboard Gigabit (10/100/1000 Mbits/sec) LAN subsystem
    Wireless Card: Intel Centrino Advanced-AC 7260 2*2 802.11 ac/a/b/g/n + BT 4.0 350/867MB Total Bandwidth
    Bluetooth: Integrated Bluetooth 4.0
    Operating System: Win 8.1

All tests done with fans set to auto.
Heaven: 80c max during the benchmark, Clock speeds normal.
Valley: 77c max during the benchmark, Clock speeds normal.
Furmark: Mid 60's but was only registering as 540 mhz the whole time.
Prime 95: 71-73c Max during a 5 min blend test (all I had time for).

The only other thing I have noticed in the two days I have had this laptop is that it looks like I can see faint black vertical lines (almost like scan lines) occasionally. Its probably a result of the matte finish.

Overall though I am really happy with this laptop.

can anyone help me? I just installed a gtx 675mx in a p170sm and it works although the bios says unknown where it should list the video card.

    it's detected fine in windows.

i found a clevo vbios and tried to flash it but keeps saying "no nvidia adapters found" does the same thing in the windows nvflash. anyone know why? the adapter is installed in windows why isn't nvflash seeing it?

the card came from a msi laptop. do i need to return it and get something with a clevo vbios? or can you force nvflash to do the flash?

because i didn't know if i needed a clevo vbios, after some more reasearch it was fine how it is.
seeing unknown in the bios was normal for unofficially supported cards.

and my nvflash was just out of date, i did then flash it with a clevo bios and it's still working, plus it was an unlocked and tweaked vbios :)

think i've finally found a laptop for keeps...

seems to be quietest one i've used so far for gaming, notebookchecks review of the p170sm isn't accurate when it says "extremely noisy", it makes some noise but it's not annoying at all.

Noise can be subjective, the exact tone of it has an impact as does the conditions used to test it. The main thing is you get on well with it :) Enjoy.

I'm up to upgrade RAM. Have 2x4Gb DDR3 installed. If I buy 1x8Gb will it work with what I have?

Yes it will in flex mode, you will have your original 8GB in dual channel and 8GB in single channel on top.

Will 1x8Gb in single channel be a bottleneck for the whole performance? Do you think 2x8Gb is the best option? How 2x8 and 2x4 will work together?

Any single channel memory is used last, exact performance impact depends on what you are doing. Paired properly (using the two empty slots for the new sticks) 2x4 and 2x8 work in full dual channel.

Thanks, Meaker. I'd rather choose to buy additional 2x8Gb. I hope that will be the last investment into RAM for my machine.

Cool, just put the ram in the two empty slots together and it should all work just fine, just match the speed, type and voltage (1600mhz, 1.35v (DDR3L) CL11 is the stock ram used).

I wonder if 14900 15000mHz are supported by our motherboard

1866mhz modules should work fine but the memory speed will be set to the slowest speed modules that are in the system, so if you add 1866mhz ram to 1600mhz modules then it all runs at 1600mhz.
