    Hi,

I posted awhile back asking about a screen replacement for Sager NP8275/ClevoP170SM. Meaker replied with 40 pin LVDS 17.3" panel but I haven't a clue on how to google search that lol, most that came out when I use that keyword are cable connector. I looked up his other suggestion AUO B173HW01 v4 but it seems to be out of production. I found LG LP173WF1 as a cheap alternative in amazon but most review said that it's bad... are there any other alternative?

Edit: Nvm found an AUO one, was sold on Amazon by XoticPC, confirmed by email inquiry to be that specific model. yussss

Enjoy it :) Guides for previous models apply too if you can't find it for the SM.

If I order one of these with a 4710MQ can I still upgrade it?

Yes since it's the HQ processors that are soldered.

The 48xx are usuall the best value for the upgrade as it gives a nice speed bump and ocing headroom.

    Hey

I'm looking on buying a Sager P170SM based laptop from ProStar. I'm in communication with their team and they seem like they are great folks. Could anyone in the community test a model of this laptop that has the 17.3 matte 60hz 1080p screen (panel: N173HGE-L11) for PWM flickering using a camera or something using a brightness sweep (ie record video of going from 100 to lowest brightness)? Thanks.

I had my old 95% panel at 90hz, the 17.3" 90% panel I had reached 100hz :) the result varies from panel to panel of the same model though.

    Wow nice

My headphone jack was working perfectly up until just now so I reinstalled the drivers but I still can't hear the right and left channels distinctively like before and the audio quality is now terrible. If I move out the headphone jack a millimetre or so, it only plays sound through the left channel.

Do I need to get this repaired under warranty?

So mine is 70c max with +135 on the core and +500 on the mem. I guess the 980ms run a bit hotter than the 970ms.

Should I overclock even further and increase the voltages? And with the CPU too as it maxes around 65-70c also? (In updated sig)

N.B: these Temp are from running 3DMark a few hours and a few hours of GTA V

Sweet so I can upgrade too. Can I also upgrade my gfx card the 970m 6gb? (In a few years hopefully :p)

Was that on a laptop with switchable graphics? Afaik, someone hasn't found a workaround yet..

I guess anyone with this laptop is screwed if they want to overclock the monitor atm..

On a positive note, I'm happy I can play Witcher 3 and GTA5 at the absolute maximum settings at 1080p

I think some people have reprogrammed the panel firmware to overclock it but yes there is no software work around for intel IGPs yet.

The IGP can generate a higher refresh rate but only if the monitor reports to it that it has those available.

    Hey guys,

So I've gotten to the point with my laptop that I want to flash and reinstall the BIOS; I'm using Windows 10 professional now and it has actually been a bit more stable than Windows 7, and I've gotten rid of my RAID 0 array with the two msata ssd's.

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/thr...270-owners-lounge.720323/page-87#post-9779170

Ive received the up to date BIOS file from Sager and am hesitant on reapplying it. Here are the instructions I got through XoticPC (where I bought the laptop):

    NB8275T9-8 SN : 8D12SC995687
Need to disable the "UEFI boot" in the CMOS setup, if the OS is Windows 8,
and after done the flash change back to enable.

Make a DOS bootable USB flash drive.
    http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/46707-ms-dos-bootable-flash-drive-create.html

After download the file rename back to.7z
make sure that the computer is on AC power.

Please unzip the 829BV303ls1.7z to a DOS bootable USB flash drive.

If OS is windows 8 or 8.1 You need to disable the UEFI boot in the CMOS setup, and after done the flash change back to enable.

Use the flash drive to boot up the computer.

At the command prompt, run MESET.

Computer will restart. (do not turn off the computer).

At the command prompt, run flashme.

After the BIOS and firmware are flashed, please disconnect the AC power and remove the battery for 10 seconds.

Note. Sager Computer does not take the responsibility if the computer does not work after you updated the system BIOS & firmware by yourself.

I've attempted the walkthrough on sevenforums that they provided, but it will not detect the file, either extracted in a folder or as the .7z file. I feel like I should follow their instructions very closely, but I feel like I should be able to just make a blank bootable usb drive and extract the .7z to that drive rather than preloading the file through the software.

Hey guys, it's been a while since I last logged into Notebookreview. :p Man have I lost touch with the forums...

I'm a proud owner of a 2 year old P177SM (with the "-a") and I think it's time for an upgrade... and I was thinking if it is technically possible to upgrade my 780M to a 980M? Before spending good money on it I'd like to know if it works as I've searched the forums and google through and through for days but it's apparent no one has done so but only owners of the 177SM-A models.

    Here are my system specs:
    i7 4900MQ
    GTX 780M
    32GB DDR3-1600
    EVO 500GB + Hitachi 1TB 7200 + Mushkin 480GB mSATA
    Prema Mod BIOS

i think it should be no problem when using Prema Mod, i only had to mod the .inf files back then when using my P150SM

    Hi :)

I just got a 2nd msata ssd and since this new one is faster than my old one, I installed windows 10 on it and make it the boot drive. Should I install Sager's old drivers? In Sager's driver download page for P170SM, none of the driver is for Windows 10 and all of them is at least 2 years old. So I'm not sure what to do. I could hunt for the updated drivers from each device's manufacturer, but as I understand it with laptop you should stick with the laptop makers' drivers only?

    Thanks for any help

For the clevo specific software that's fine, for the other drivers sticking with the latest manufacturer drivers from the part vendors is best.

The "rule" is to install the OEM stock drivers, then update over those. Updating is widely considered ideal, and you can only stay current by going directly to the driver vendors from the component manufacturers.

All right, thanks, I'll do that then :). In the past that what I've done actually, but with certain drivers, in particular video driver, updating those seemed to make things worse. So maybe I'll install stock drivers, update them, minus the video driver one. thanks!

    Need some help.

    I own a Sager NP8290 (Clevo P177SM), currently running a GTX 780M.
Just tried to install new GPU: NVidia GeForce GTX980M Graphics GPU Card N16E-GX-A1 8GB MXM 3.0B
My BIOS detected but did not identify the card.
Windows detected but did not identify the card.
I updated my BIOS to the latest Prema Mod via https://biosmods.wordpress.com

Still the card is NOT identified by either BIOS nor Windows.

Do I need to do anything special? Is the iGPU interfering during boot? Has anyone else had issues with this?

    TIA

What happens when you try and install the latest drivers? How does it appear in device manager?

The BIOS simply reads "VGA Card: UNKNOWN"
And in Windows 10 | Device Manager... the card is listed as "Microsoft Basic Display Adapter"
When trying to install NVidia Drivers, it of course complains that there is no NVidia card installed.

And since I updated to the latest Prema Mod BIOS, that means I am now running a Clevo, correct?

And finally, on the inside of the box there is a sticker, NP8290. I believe the company flashed the vBIOS of the card. Would that keep the Prema Mod BIOS from identifying it?

    Hope this helps.

I cannot install any standard NVidia drivers as my card is not recognized as an NVidia card.
    I found instructions here >> http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/installing-nvidia-drivers-by-modding-inf-files.746245/
With that explanation, I contacted my 980M manufacturer, and they sent me a modified driver.
Windows now identifies the card, but still does not work. Immediately disables the card stating there was a problem. *rolls eyes*

Can anyone tell me if P177SM Prema Mod v2 supports the GTX 980M.
As I stated, my BIOS detects and identifies my 780M. BUT, when I install the 980M, it lists it as "UNKNOWN".
I presume, if I could get my BIOS to detect and identify my card, win10 would like it better.

    TIA

The BIOS sting is simply a line of text and has no impact on the OS or anything else.

Hi there, you got the card from us, yes.
Looking into it, of course. I think your bios is not a win10 bios, so I have been told, let me find out more, can't be the go to expert on every laptop model, but I will help you resolve the issue, and we will figure it out.
We had the same issues with Alienware m17X-R4 when we upgraded from windows 7 to windows 10. Not even a modified driver would work. We had to do a fresh install in a pure UEFI boot, with a GPT partitioned HDD to fix it at first.

@Meaker@Sager I linked him a 351.xx driver your suggesting we use something from 2 years ago, like 2014 ?

Hey, @Aeden PM me your S/N please, I will need it.

Yeah the Prema mod MIGHT actually add the support you need, it's not as common enough laptop for me to know offhand if it works, been months since I upgraded a X5 , but no harm in backing up your bios now, and trying this one. (if your comfortable with bios flashing) you will not need to flash the 980M though.

Someone knows if the miniDP or the Display port of the P170SM is connected directly to the discrete GPU on the motherboard? (I have a 970M GTX).

I bought this on amazon but so far is not working:

    http://www.club-3d.com/index.php/pr...layport-12-to-hdmi-20-uhd-active-adapter.html

I would like to run the desktop at 4K@60hz on my Sharp TV, but seems like the Display Port is connected to the iGPU instead of the 970M, cannot reach 60hz unfortunately.

Someone tried with the MiniDP port?

    Thanks in advance

Just for future reference, I have tried a Mini-DP to Display port adapter but unfortunately all the display ports are connected to the intel HD4600.

    I hate optimus...

Yes, all outputs are connected to the IGP in this model, that has changed in the latest models with the 970M and up which have switches or do not use optimus at all.

However I heard that adapter should support the intel IGP, what model of TV do you have?

    Thanks for your reply Meaker.

The adapter is supported, the problem is that output only 4k@30hz, from what I understood and read online there is no way I will be able to reach 4k@60hz, because all my ports are wired to the iGPU. That really sucks.... :(

Is there really now way to reach 4k@60hz with my laptop?

I have a Sharp Aquos TV, which has a HDMI port that support HDPC 2.2 4k@60hz.

Is your intel driver bang up to date? If it is then only a native displayport monitor would work.

Yes I have the latest driver version, but from what I have read unfortunately the Intel HD4600 doesn't support 4k@60hz, only up to 30hz, that's the problem.

I found actually a way to make it work with the 3dClub adapter, even if its still buggy, sometimes I got black screen, but others reported that it works:

    http://insights.club-3d.com/thread/how-i-got-4k-60hz-working-with-intel-graphics/

    Seems like there is hope!

I checked also the specs on the intel website and the HD4600 does support 4k@60hz, its just a matter of having the correct intel driver and of course a compatible TV.
