No, you need to step up to the p150sm for that.

Yep I am typing on it right now and it's perfectly usable, there are better ones out there but there are also a lot worse.

After some research I'm really liking this laptop and will probably be buying it shortly.
I was just wondering if anyone knew if Clevo/Sager will be "updating/refreshing" this model anytime soon? Kind of like how it went from an NP8230 to an NP8235? -
Support.3@XOTIC PC Company Representative
Many models have recently been phase out or put on back order until mid March if that tells you anything. The NP8235 is one that is still available but it could be put on back order soon too.
-
Thanks Hutsady.
.
Is it put on back order because there's too much demand? Or because an update is coming? -
Support.3@XOTIC PC Company Representative
Unfortunately cant say much on that.
-
Hey guys.
From what I'm reading about Clevo/Sager laptops, they sometimes have an issue where the fan kicks in at full speed (loudly) during idle usage. Or sometimes the fans cycle from high speed to low speed very rapidly.
Now in fairness this seems to be the case with laptop models from a few years ago.
Does anyone know if the NP8235 has this issue? -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
There were a couple of models that had an issue but i believe a bios/ec update was rolled out.
-
Hi all,
I'm tossing up between this laptop and the y410p (much less powerful, but enticing due to recent sale).
A question regarding the Clevo: i see they quote a range of thicknesses on most websites, what in the build determines the final outcome of this? Are these really just moveable desktops or they are passably portable?
Cheers,

So I noticed the NP8235 is GONE from the XoticPC website. Other models like the NP8265 are still listed, but they're backordered until mid-March.
Is the NP8235 discontinued? -
Support.3@XOTIC PC Company Representative
Indeed its gone and not backordered. We haven't heard of a direct replacement but sure do hope so.
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
It would be odd for them to remove a model like that permanently.

I have a question. I purchased a Sager 8230 back in August of last year and when I got it, I had an issue with it not turning on as soon as I installed the OS. I got it fixed and I noticed I was having BSOD problems, they were more frequent at first, but after updating all of my drivers from the site and removing certain programs like Daemon Tools and Comodo antivirus (I use windows essentials now), I still get bsod's about once per day. I just can't put my finger on the issue. The reasons tend to vary as I get different dump reports. I have fully updated drivers from the Sager site, and I was told that I should have my video drivers in a certain order, and it seemed to help somewhat but I still get a crash about every 1-2 days. Does anybody have any experience with this?
I'd rather not reinstall everything if I don't have to and I'm not sure if it will work. I've run memtest for about 19 passes as instructed, but it found no errors. Could this be a Bios issue with this model, or something that I'm overlooking? I like Sager, but I have had issues with this since I purchased it. It's not as destabilizing as before, but I just want it to work properly. I built my new desktop around last December and I have no problems with it. I'd just like my laptop to do the same thing.
Any suggestions? -
19 pass memtest does not mean that the memory is fine. I also ran memtest 9 pass and it said my memory was fine even though all the BSOD's were memory management errors. After I switched out the memory, I have not had a single BSOD.
I would download BSOD Viewer and see what it is. Also is your memory voltage and speed compatible with your computer?

I use whocrashed and it gives me a variety of reasons that don't seem consistent to simply memory. I tried reinstalling drivers and everything else. I've gotten IQRL errors, kmexception errors, etc. All from different programs and devices. It doesn't constantly like it used to, but about once per day.
I just have everything on default from when I bought it, I haven't overclocked or changed any speeds, though I suppose I could look that up. I've heard about Prime 95 for testing stability, doesn't seem like a bad idea. -
upgrading my ram to 24GB. Is there anything I need to do to access the under keyboard RAM slots than just whats in this video here?

edit: Should have checked before I asked. The factory 2x4GB is already installed under the keyboard. Yay.

Make sure you match the speed and latency of the existing sticks.
-
ThaBigDaddyC-Master Notebook Enthusiast
Well I tried a Windows 8.1 boot. As soon as I installed it and put the Sager drivers on there, it started freezing and bsod'ing. Since this was a fresh machine with no programs and absolutely new sager drivers I'm inclined to believe it is a hardware problem, likely memory. I'm going to let it run in safe mode and see if it crashes. If it does that I'll have to send it back. I noticed they gave me two different brands of memory as well, so that might play a role.
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
What are the sticks rated for that are included? Have you tried taking two out?
-
ThaBigDaddyC-Master Notebook Enthusiast
I haven't yet, but I have had it in safe mode for the past few days and no crash, so it could be software drivers; not sure though. Do you mean stick speed and latency?
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Yes, is all the memory matched to the same speed and latencies?
-
ThaBigDaddyC-Master Notebook Enthusiast
Well I simply did a fresh install and installed the drivers from scratch and I'm using driver verifier. No crashes yet, so I'm assuming it was a driver issue. I removed 2 sticks and put them back in just this morning and it's fine. Sometimes it's better to just reinstall instead of all the hassle I've been going through since August. Granted it was crashing 1 time a day or 2 but it was still annoying. I did another boot actually of the same os, so that I can compare the two and it seems solid. I'll do a report once I'm back to where I was.

Hi Guys,
I am looking for a laptop that can run games like Diablo 3, Skyrim, Elder Scrolls Online, Starcraft, LoL ect. on decent settings but that also has portability to be used at University and whilst traveling. I was thinking of grabbing it with the Nvidia 770m card already inside, would this laptop be suitable for this purpose? I have tried reading through the thread to find the information but 43 pages is a lot to read through
Also, how easy is the laptop to update in the future (new graphic cards, ram ect.) for some one with a base knowledge of the technical side of laptops
Thanks for your time folks!

Hey guys, I have a Sager NP8235. I was told that it is not a good idea, to have the laptop charging all day long, it can damage the battery. Is this true or not? Thanks.
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
No this is not true since it's not actually charging.

Hi All,
I'm weighing up getting this with GTX 870M 6GB or the new MSI GT60 2PC with the GTX 870M 3GB. I cannot find a benchmark comparison between the two cards. Both will come with i7 4810MQ.
Which is likely to give best results playing games like Far Cry 3? Will both versions of the 870m let me play in ultra settings?
Cheers. -
Is anybody able to describe how I would go about getting to the MSATA ports? I bought this laptop with a 1TB HDD but now want the speed of an MSATA SSD but am not sure how to get at it and don't want to wreck anything.
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Open up the back panel and the primary slot is right there
-
-
And both SATA ports are right below (above) the 2.5" bay. Pull that 2.5" HDD out and you have easy access to them. -

Would something like this fit and work fine?
Also thanks for all the previous help. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
That's the type of critter yes.
-
Does anyone know if there is a newer driver version other than the 311.54 the 770M came with?
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Yes, check out nvidia.com for the latest.

What are your thoughts on DIY upgrades to the CPU/GPU? One of the biggest appeals of a Clevo-based laptop is how easy it is "supposed" to be to upgrade down the road.
However, I was scanning prices for the GTX 860m cards, to get an idea. They seem to sell for around $400+. Combined with potential BIOS issues, it just seems to me that the ease of upgrade just isn't what I thought it was. $400 is a lot of money for a single component upgrade.
Thoughts? -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
$400 is a lot cheaper than a high end system, but upgrades to the next generation are no longer guaranteed, buy it for the system it is.

I purchased my np8230 in July 2013 from xotic and enjoyed it for the first few months. After taking a break from League of Legends for school I came back to it this summer and for some reason my screen has this insane flickery garbage all over the screen. After disabling my Integrated Graphics card my screen cleared up, but because of the Optimus, it disables access to my GTX 770m. In DxDiag it shows my display as Microsoft Basic Display Adapter and I can't game at all anymore..
Anyone have issues like this and maybe know a solution? I refreshed AND restored my computer to factory then clean installed all of the drivers. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
It could be a faulty GPU, what happens if you try to install the intel display drivers followed by the nvidia drivers?
-
When I install the Intel drivers, it flickers ridiculously. When I install both, there is no change. Even with only the Intel drivers installed and Nvidia drivers uninstalled, it still flickers.
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Have you tried running with one stick of ram and try each stick?
-
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
The IGP uses the system memory to store the display data, if the ram is not quite stable it could cause the data to be corrupted.

I have been thinking about upgrading my laptop with more RAM but given that there are 4 slots, I wasn't sure how the channels works and if there were any 'rules' to what RAM must be installed. They say you should install RAM kits in pairs which is what I have at the moment and they are in slots 1 and 2 which the computer sees as channels 2 and 4. slots 3 and 4 are seen as channels 1 and 3 and are currently unused.
Do I need to install the same sticks in all 4 channels or can I go 2 of one and 2 of another? -

I am thinking about buying this laptop and was wondering how loud the fans are on each different setting?
