I managed to wipe most of the dust away but theres still some stuck between the fan blades (and god knows where else that i cant see). How does one get a air blower? And wouldnt that just blow the dust into the casing?
-
Support.3@XOTIC PC Company Representative
You can get a can of compressed air at pretty much any electronics shop. You want to open up the bottom of the computer and blow the dust out so it doesnt just move to a different spot in the chassis.
-
Uh, how do you blow the dust out? If the can is facing the fan, then the air is going to blow the dust in...

Has anyone played Battlefield 4 on this model yet? Really interested in this laptop and I've seen other notebook models with the 770m run it pretty smoothly with around 30-40fps with full 1080p Ultra/High settings. Just wondering how this laptop will hold up! Thanks, Jake
-
Well, you already answered your own question. Notebooks with the same core components (probably i7 4700MQ and GTX 770M) are going to perform very similarly. I'm also getting 30-40 FPS with everything maxed out except the extraneous like motion blur, depending on the size of the fight. I typically turn down some of the more intensive settings for a stable higher framerate in games like that though.
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Yes it should be pretty similar, as said you can tune BF4 to give very decent frame rates.
-
Settings like those the fans are most likely working full steam right?
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
BF4 is pretty good at loading both GPU/CPU so yeah the fans will have to work hard.
-
My p151sm1 should arrive from Sager on Monday. It's stock except the wifi card and the thermal paste, and i had it come with windows 8. What should i install for quality of life and drivers, and what programs are best to test benchmarks with? I'm kinda new and don't know where to dig to find how to optimize performance.
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Well update the graphics drivers from nvidia directly, as for benchmarks things like 3dmark are pretty decent to show off what it can do but playing some games should be your first priority IMO.
-
got a question, can i remove the battery without having the notebook disequilibrated ? does it come with a "cover" for the battery slot if there isnt any battery there ?
plus can we expect a drop in the prices after christmas (1340$ => 1200$ or less ?) -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
There is no blank for the battery. It should not get hot though so should be safe to keep in there.

You should always get your drivers from the sager site. They have been optimized for your specific PC. For the video card drivers, just download nVidia experience. does it all automatically. -
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Batteries are sensitive to temperatures so not only do you want a machine that's not too hot in general but where the battery is properly sectioned off from heat generation stores, which the clevo/sager models are so it should be ok to leave the battery in.

My NP8230 has the default panel. Using HWiNFO, I found that the panel (LG LP156WF1-TLF3) was manufactured in 2009. Should I be concerned that a 4 year panel was used instead of a more recent one?
-
ddr3 ram was launched in 2007 and your laptop uses it, don't worry dude. -
I've had my Sager NP8235 for about a week now and I love it! Been playing BF4 non stop lol. but about a day ago my mouse keeps turning off every 30 min or so and I have to unplug and plug it back in for it to work(on both usb 2.0/3.0 ports). I'm running windows 7 ultimate and all my drivers are installed and up to date. Anyone else having this problem?

-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
It might no even be reading the panel age correctly as week 0 seems suspicious.
My orochi in bt mode was always 100% reliable -
Super annoying! It's even happening during gameplay now.. How would we go about getting this USB issue resolved? Contacting Sager/Clevo directly?

What OS are you running? Wondering if windows 8.1 will give me the same problem. -

I have the synaptics pointer device driver installed but multi finger gesture doesn't work. Is there something I'm missing?
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Have you checked the driver settings for them?
-
I did but they still weren't functioning so i re-installed the driver and that seemed to fix it, even though it was the same version O.O
Side note, what cases do you guys use for this laptop? I'm trying to decide on a good one but I've read that sometimes the normal 15-inch cases don't fit clevos because they are bigger -
what about the microphone integrated that doesnt work ? (previous post)
edit : big disappointment about the keyboard, why using that special layout omg ! -
Howdy all,
I have been considering upgrading to a new laptop. I currently own a nearly 3.5 year old Sager 8690 (intel core i5 / AMD 5870m, 15.6" 1080p). I have really enjoyed it, but the battery is shot (not that the battery life was ever good), it is kind of beat up, and it is heavy as a boat anchor. I have been really eyeing the 7330 and 8235, but am a little unsure if they are worthwhile upgrades. I know they are lighter and a little more portable, have lighter power supplies, and waaaaay better battery life, but I have been trying to evaluate benchmarks to see if I am really going to get a big jump in performance. Despite it's age, the 8690 still does pretty well with modern games. I can run games like Bioshock Infinite and Frycry 3 on pretty dang high settings and get smooth enough framerates to make them playable, but I do have to scale back a bit to get really good framerates. The benchmarks done on the old 8690 reviews are all on 3dMark6 and old games so it is tough to judge. Anyone have first hand experience of making the jump from the 8690 to one of these newer two models?
Thanks! -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
If you want consistent 1080p gaming the P15X series are going to give you the best results, they are a bit lighter than your current machine (10%) or so, the machines you mentioned are a lot lighter but you take an equal performance hit equivalent to that.
-
When you say a performance hit, you mean compared to the higher cost machines of today right? I mean shouldn't the 7330 and 8230 smoke the 8690?? By the way, I bought my 8690 from you guys, and still really appreciate the great deal and service!
-
Oh perfect, my battery puffed lol. Now I guess that is more incentive to buy something new as opposed to spending $200 for a 45 minute battery that really only serves to cover the HDD bay on the 8690. I think I have ruled out the 7330, but the 8235 and 8255 seem so similar and tough to chose between. Any thoughts on those two?
-
Let me preface this with I'm not making any accusations.
I got a new CC in May, it sat unused until I purchased my laptop from PowerNotebooks.com in September. Shortly afterward I noticed a second very small charge on my account, but it fell off right after. Today, again after very few other uses of the card I get a fraud notice on the card. Somebody had used it at 3 separate websites in a 10 minute span. Closed the card, etc etc. I've never used the card at retail and I've only used it online a total of 6 times. Again, no accusation. But be aware and check your cards if you've purchased from them. -

Hey there, i'll pass on your information to the guys at the office, I have not heard of any issues from other customers, I would check your computer for a keylogger or those other websites. Thanks for letting me know.
The 8235 is a value option of the chasis with no backlit keyboard and a smaller power brick.
The 8255 has a 180W power brick and will be upgradable to the 780M in future along with having a backlit keyboard.
Performance at stock should be pretty close so it comes down to budget, I tweak things so the 8255 would make more sense for someone like me. -
Hmmm sounds like the 8235 might be the better option for me. Mobile GPU updates are so expensive, and I already have a 180W PSU for the 8690 (the original PSU met an untimely death at the hands of my toddler!). Thanks for the input!!

Not a problem, you can't go too wrong with either to be honest

My current np8662 just started throwing out some artifacts and occasionally making weird noises, so I'm looking to upgrade. Just a couple of questions, if someone wouldn't mind answering them.
-Is now a good time to purchase a NP8235(8265)? I bought my np8662, and while I was more then happy with my purchase, the next build was released a month later which got me a little disappointed.
-Are there any alternative laptops that give off comparable builds? 5 years ago there were only sager and alienware that had "good" builds so I'm curious if there are any competitors nowadays.
-How is the heat management for the the 8235/8265? The np8662 ran a little hot and had no cooling/fans directed towards the hdd so it needed an external cooler in order to keep the temps down.
-Random one, if I buy from xoticpc, is there any chance I could go and pick it up from the sager store? Xotic ends up with cheaper prices, but I live 30 minutes away from sager.
Thanks in advance. -

Sager is still considered top of the line build quality. If you're happy with the build of your NP8662 you'll like the new NP82XX.
Heat management is good. There arent any common overheating issues to be aware of, just keep in mind all gaming notebooks are going to generate heat due to the higher end parts inside of them.
You can go pick it up at Sager if you purchase from us, however we would have to collect for sales tax if you do so and you'll want to specifically mention you'd like to do that when placing the order. Other we can ship to you, our normal shipping policy for customers who live in CA is have Sager ship the computer to us (at no charge to you) then once we take possession of it we'll ship it back to you. Since we are shipping to another state that way we do not collect for sales tax. But just FYI you are supposed to claim anything you purchase online which you didnt pay sales tax for when you file your yearly taxes. -
Hi everybody,
Got an NP8230 back in August of this year via Larry from LPC-Digital (which went about as smoothly as it possibly could have -- if anyone's looking for somewhere to buy a laptop, consider me yet another satisfied customer). It's been running smoothly, handling all kinds of intense architectural programs (Revit, 3ds Max + V-Ray, Rhino, etc.). Rendering for an entire weekend with all cores at 100% use didn't even seem to faze it. So far, so good.
Back home for winter break now, installed Skype, went to talk to a friend -- and the webcam isn't showing up! I downloaded and installed the latest driver from Clevo's website, and still nothing -- it doesn't even recognize the existence of the built-in webcam. Has anyone else run into this? Is there something super obvious that I'm missing?
Thanks,
RC -

It may be turned off, try Fn + F10

Herp de derp de derp. Not sure how I managed to miss that, haha. Thank you!

Glad it was an easy fix, just like your last sentence " Is there something super obvious that I'm missing?"

Ugh, 5 months old and a dead pixel shows up. I've owned 5 laptops and have never had this problem before. This is the most annoying machine I've ever owned.
Edit: Actually, there's more than one. A couple of dead pixels actually. I don't know if it's been this way the whole time and I'm noticing it just now or what. But I've never had this problem on any other laptop before. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
It will be down to the panel rather than sager/clevo as many companies use the same panels.

Hi,
I am undecided between the Clevo P151SM1 and the Clevo P150SM. It seems that the main difference is that the GPU of the Clevo P150SM can be upgraded later on. My maximum budget is $1500 and that should include a 3 year insurance. I am probably going to buy the laptop next week from XoticPC.com
I plan to use to laptop for mmo's. Mostly Neverwinter, TSW, GW2, and in a couple of months ESO. Can someone tell me how these laptops handle mmo's? I would like to play these games at high or maximum settings.
One of my main concerns is the temperatures while under stress. How does these laptops handle temperature during gaming sessions?
Finally, which is better, Clevo P151SM1 or Clevo P150SM? -
Some othere differences:
- rubberized finish on P150SM (Palmrest and Displaycover)
- 120W PSU (P151SM1) vs. 180W (P150SM)
- and obviously the illuminated Keyboard
In my opinion you should go for the P150Sm if you like a more valuable Notebook. If you like to have a little bit more mobile machine, you should take the P151SM1 (because the PSU is smaller and lighter, the notebook does have the same weight). It may be possible to upgrade later the GPU on the P150Sm, but often there are complications regarding the BIOS. But Prema is well known for modifing the BIOS and maybe there is a chance.
If you like to play mmos, you should configure of course an intel quadcore.
If you consider to buy the GTX770M, i think it should handle high (not max) Details on GW2. The HD8970M maybe a mixture of high - max and the gtx 780M may handle all Details.
Elder Scrolls Online should run on max settings with the gtx 770M.
But I have to admit, that I don't play these games and I only estimated these scenarios.
My P150SM does handle the heat quite effective - my GTX 770M runs in the low 70°C and my CPU (4700MQ) arround 70-80°C. But the P151SM uses the same cooling system, so there shouldn't be huge differences. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
You will be able to step up to a 780m later if you want at least.

This laptop looks great, but I can't believe it doesn't have a backlit keyboard option.
Does anyone know if this model will be updated to have a backlit keyboard anytime soon?
