I have done done research before I got mine today..I even called Xotic PC

the result was obvious..the GTX 680 is a gr8 GPU but not worth the 300$ up and above the HD 7970M ;)

Yeah, sorry. I guess I've spent too much time with my friends from the UK. :p

I'm happy you finally got your computer! I hope you get the backplate fixed up, though.

Why do you need your RAM to be over 1600MHz? The only time that would really be necessary is if you are compiling something quite big a lot (think a linux distro), or maybe animation or CAD.
Also, if you are going to get your own RAM, call xoticpc and ask them to *not* put RAM in your order and save yourself the money.

Because if you are buying it the difference is only a few dollars, so you might as well. 1866 ram would also allow you to run 1600 with reduced cas latency if you wished. Also faster ram significantly increases the performance of the iGPU.

    Nice! When did you order?

Hmm, this is true. Maybe I'm thinking with a bit too much of a budget mindset.

I am pretty sure it is on the sager drivers page. Just search for sager downloads and it should pop up.

I never found the actual program link but my numpad was locked, dumb mistake, I figured it out and now have it Red/Blue/Yellow I like it allot :p

Also BF3 runs maxed w/ 4x AA 1080p everything else ultra at 35-45fps plays perfectly fluid for me :p

Diablo 3 stays above 60fps even in Inferno on 1080p all high settings :p

Going to try Skyrim w/ mods later on most likely but BF3 and D3 are more fun to me :p

Can't wait for Warface I'd love to play that a bit hehe.

    And Planetside 2. Hah!

And my temps never got over 74C and I'm in a room that is already 75F to begin with. That's during a 30 minute play session.

Also I contacted Eurocom and sent pictures of the cracked backplate where the screw enters the corner was cracked off in the box; they are sending me a new backplate free of charge so problem solved! :)

who did you order your laptop from?

Hey i contacted xoticpc and asked them about changing my network card to Killer-N and derek told me if i make any changes to my order (that i put in on june 5), i'll be canceling my order/reordering and moving to the back of the line again in my wait for my 7970 haha...

anyone else run into these issues? it's kinda bugging me that i can't... upgrade.. my own order that hasn't processed for three weeks.

I wanted the 1866 cause i just wanted the fastest ram out there really so i dont find something else to replace. I dont really need more than 8 gigs since i dont multitask or vm often. I asked regarding about taking hdd and ram out but they said sager doesnt allow them to do that at this time so i just picked the lowest and they had a special which took off 50$ to replace with 1333. On top of that it only costs 80 for the new rams so i really paid 30$ for the upgrade but i can probably sell those 1333 for 30$ and ill even out really. Also wut extide said he's thinking just like me kaka.

I did the research too but im rather a nvidia fanboy than amd. Ive used amd before (gpu and cpu)and it was just a bunch of issues for me and i refuse to go through that again. On top of that the second batch of 7970's had issues and they were all recalled. Id rather spend the extra 295 and avoid all that headache. Not saying amd is a bad brand or anything just that when they release new products they always have some issues because they rush to get it out before nvidia does.

Did you guys end up having to wait the entire 15 business days? Or did you get it shipped at the 9 business day mark?
    Just wondering, :p

Did you try safe mode with no additional support and then uninstalling?... extremely remote long shot but just a thought.

I hate Windows installing... takes a couple of times to get it absolutely perfect with a new machine specially if your trying to get the latest software and drivers to work. I'd advise to back it up once happy before installing games etc.

I usually install a second OS on a small partition just incase the first dies so I can recover files etc easily.

I paid $3400 for a top of the line maxed out macbook pro in 2007 and went through 3 motherboards while on Applecare and 1 after that expired All Because of Nvidia's POS graphics card issue. Class action lawsuit got me the cost of the 4th failed card (soldiered on motherboard) reimbursed, but that was all Nvidia's fault... and about 6 weeks in total over 3 years of in the shop for repairs because of them. Just because it hasn't't happened yet, doesn't mean it can't ever happen to you. How many issues did you have with AMD?

Just got my NP9150 from Xotic. Q3610 & 7970m and I gotta say it's lived up to all my expectations and more. BF3, Alan Wake, Skyrim, it chews it all up with ease. And it also runs MS Word smooooooth!

you might as well do a clean windows 7 install... then use the stock clevo drivers... and when you try to update drivers, only install the driver on custom instal... don't install the whole package and try to overwrite the stock driver package. thats what i did and no problems so far except 3dmark11 crashing.

    @McDave
Twice with amd one was cpu and one was gpu this was a while back now both burnt out and this was stock. Ive never had issues hardware wise as far as i can remember with nvidia. Maybe driver not working the way it should but just waited for next driver to clear itself out. I dont understand y u didnt just ask for a refund after the second time it burned out. No offense though personally I would never ever get a mac. Im just not a mac person. The only apple product i would get is the iphone. Besides the motherboard/gpu was burning out probably due to bad air flow. Im not gonna say anything else regarding about that because ive never owned or checked them out. However dont get me wrong its not like hardware failures wont happen to me eventually but comparing the successes and failures ive had between the two i pick nvidia. True that both chips currently benchmark wise are at par but when i think reliability i would always put nvidia first on my list. Then again it's my list not urs : P. Also apple overprices their products just like nvidia does. What it all boils down to, is ur own personal preferences and what ur willing to pay for it. For me im willing to dish out the extra 300 for a brand i prefer, thats's all.

So I just took my new laptop apart so I could add my paste and one of the screws to get the heatsink off the gpu is stripped...? How am I supposed to do anything w/ this? I'm pretty irritated by that. Guess I'm stuck w/ the stock paste and hope that I never need it off...

Edit: Scratch that. It's a screw going to the heatsink over the memory on the gpu so I guess I don't need to get there anyway. Still dumb that it's stripped though

I will never again buy myself a Mac either, but this was early on with Apple/Intel and I was getting into music production... long story. Apple rapes it's following repeatedly because of great aesthetics and the accompanied dogma. So i have little love for them (but admire the ability to mind control). I still personally blame Apple for not catching the Nvidia issue before locking that mobo into the faulty Nvidia graphics card BUT, a class action law suit in a court of law found Nvidia at fault, not Apple.

So close to pulling the trigger on one of these bad boys. . . All I have to do is find a way to "convince" my parents as to why I should spend around 2k on such a masterpiece. Well. . .that, and get some quotes from some American/Canadian resellers on a certain build or two and compare them (damn myself for living in Canada land :()

    Thanks for the informative answers!

I can't wait until I can order it, I've been saving up for over a year, and I'm amazed at the great changes from the HM to EM, including the 7970M, ports, and backlit keyboard. I've been stalking the forums for months and you guys are very helpful.

I hope the move from a 2004 Dell Latitude D610 is going to be as great as I imagine it to be. :)

I used it to get a stripped screw off from the exhaust of my car... if it worked on my exhaust, it should/could work on a tiny screw on your laptop... just be gentle though

For damaged screws I try gripping the head with a decent set of strong mini pliers. Failing that I'd carefully use a dremel to cut a new slot in the head... just make sure you mask the area though so that you dont have metal filings floating about... that would not be good!
Also if the screw is metal into metal then use non permanent thread lock to hold it in place. metal screws into metal vibrate free over time... also not good

    Hi there,

am about to purchase the NP9150 but does anyone know if the audio chipset supports Dolby Digital Live? Have some concerns if the sound may be lacking, what do other owners feel about this?

If it is somewhat lacking but supports DDL, I could go with astro's A40 headset + mix amp. However if the general sentiment is that the sound is perfectly fine using any headphone, it leaves me room to consider cans like the sennheiser pc360.

would appreciate any personal experiences and knowledge on this, thanks :)

Thanks. And yeah I just bought one at $340 as well. I never thought it'd get to $300. Maybe order another and have 1TB RAID :p

edit: wups, they raised price to $399 - $35. So it's more expensive than what I paid.

    It Shipped! It Shipped!!!
Now begins Phase 2 of my impatience. Once I get my Tracking code the webpage will be refreshed hourly on my Raspberry Pi and my spare monitor.

Will be doing a full featured review when I get it. I just hope it makes it here in South Florida by Friday. Supercon is Saturday and I would love to join in the old pc games lan party.

If anyone is wondering about the order to door times on the laptop.
    Ordered Friday June 15th
    Weekend
Credit Card/Order Confirmation Monday June 18th
    Xotic's Phase 2 - Ordering from Sager June 19th
Sager Order Number and Build Start June 20th
    Weekend
    Shipped out June 26th

    All Stock except:
    95% Gamut Matte
    Intel 6300n
    Bigger HDD
    More Ram

So Xotic Pc's 2 week estimate is just about right. Even with the two weekends, I don't think Xotic did anything for the order the first one, but Sager may have been building it the second.

If it shipped today and left this morning I don't see any reason why with 3-5 day Ups it won't be here Friday.
Damn... I have work and close on Friday.

Amazon just went up in price too, but with their data transfer cable/CD is still 359. Strange how this drive seems to be priced like a commodity.
