I rememebr with the ASUS the ATK_Hotkey was the function key driver that just made the standard windows popups happen and there was a program that changed the appearance of teh keys for to apear ASUS 3d called ATKOSD2 or something simular... is there something simular here? I'm stuck to look as my accountant has my machine at the mo.

Just got notice from XoticPC that my order has shipped and should arrive on Tuesday (6/26) :D !! I placed the order on 6/08. IMO that's outstanding, considering the 7970M was on backorder when I submitted my build.

Being my first time using XoticPC or any reseller, I have to say that the customer service (Derek in particular) has been fantastic. Assuming no issues with the delivered product, I'd recommend them to anybody. I'll definitely be using them again in the future.

My order shipped for P150EM with 7970M, ordered 6.06 from LPC-Digital. Should be here by Tuesday, hopefully UPS will actually make an effort to be faster like FedEx or USPS does.

Pretty sure both MSI and Asus provide 30 day zero dead pixel standard.

I think Sager should also. Dead pixels are just unacceptable brand new, even if it's just one.

I ordered 5/1 but at least they let me upgrade to the 95% NTSC screen for free, along with the 1600mhz RAM up from the 1333mhz, and a 500GB hybrid instead of stock 500GB. So I suppose it was somewhat worth the wait -_- haha.

    WHAT?!?!?!?!??
I ordered for Xotic on 5/28 and my order didn't even get PROCESSED and put into phase 2 until YESTERDAY.
Not trying to a baby, frankly I'm glad you got the speedy service. I'm just wondering as to how someone who orderd the same build as me 12 DAYS later gets their processed so fast........
Gratz On The Laptop Though! :p
I'm to be expecting mine by 7/16 (assuming it takes the full 16 business days to build, and UPS express) :(

SSD are much much faster to start up, open programs, and decrease load times. The 3720 is not worth it in my opinion, you only really need 8 gb of ram unless your doing heavy video editing and cad stuff (8 gb is good for gaming).

    BTW,
Does anyone know if we can game in 3d with this smexy beast of a laptop?
I currently am an owner of the Sony PS3 3D screen, it gives the option of having stereoscopic 3d modes, Up Down, Left Right, and a 3D Auto mode.
I guess my question is what drivers would I need (i'm going to make use of the 7970m mind you) So that i could game in 3d?
Would i need to set the option in game? Or what? Do i need a certain type of HDMI cable as well? Thanks in advance for your answers!

Sager has plenty of the AMD 7970M cards in stock, but they are still busy filling all of the back orders. Therefore they are quoting about 7 business days to ship new orders.

7970m is supposed to support some forms of 3d but the 3d on AMD is no where near as good a nvidia 3d.

Also drivers that support it aren't out yet from what I've heard.

I hope my laptop hurries over here haha.

It shipped on Tuesday so I'm hoping it shows up this Saturday :p

Really want to try some BF3 ultra and skyrim ultra + res packs on it; I'm going to go through skyrim again with maxed settings and then play maxed BF3 and D3 haha, I've been playing D3 on 800x600 all low settings lol :(

If you are going to run VMWare Workstations (like me) 16G ram is a good idea. Also. , the 3720qm adds to VT-x VT-d. Allows peripherals to be virtualized in addition to VT-x's Cpu/ram virtualization. Otherwise, just 10% clock.

I dunno about you guys, but BF3 on ultra isn't quite playable enough for me. Yeah it probably averages over 30fps, but the dips down to 15 on the huge maps are enough to keep me at high instead of ultra.

I just got mine and Heroes of Newerth doesn't play that great on it. I have it maxed out and it stutters like I'm lagging and not that smooth. I played the game on a laptop w/ a 540m and it played perfect so I'm hoping it's only a driver issue. I also can't get Skyrim to use the 7970, only the Intel 4000

Did anybody here that owns a NP9150 already get a dead pixel? I (btw I'm from South America) was planning to buy this model and have a friend, who's on vacation, bring it to me. Should I avoid buying this model? Or just pray that I get one that is 100% right. Thanks for the answers.

Why would you need vt-d pass through on a laptop?

I saw somebody's review and they showed a nice dead white pixel. 10 minutes later I emailed Xotic to add the dead pixel warranty to my order.
I would go crazy with a dead pixel, so I spent the extra money.

If you want all vm's to be able to share things like ethernet (instead of nat) or Dvd or... dare I say... video card, you need it. Otherwise you assign it to the active vm manually.

Doesn't vt-d allow the vm hardware level access? Would you be using the vm to set up a network and have the host os sit behind it?
Vt-d passes the link over the host os and doesn't share, unless I'm missing a hidden feature.

Right. For more self-reading see Thrawn's response:
    http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/1818049

Basically 1 and only 1 host can use an I/o resource at a time at hw level without vt-d (excluding Cpu/ram) networking gets around this by nating to each vm on the same host os resource. Vt-d actually allows true virtualization of I/o. Since most run workstations to switch between os's using one at a time, manually re-assigning an I/o resource (or having a nated connection for ethernet) is fine. I will be having virtual machines that need simultaneous access to I/o and true virtualized peripherals.

I am going to run virtualized networking appliances for demonstration to customers, so software layers between the guest os and I/o (affecting performance) is not the best. I agree, my needs represent a bit of a corner-case, but I actually got this 9150 for that purpose (the gaming prowice is a bonus).

    More:
Intel’s hardware assist for virtualization helps to lower the overhead of virtualization software. Intel VT (introduced first in 2005) today represents a platform centric innovation in hardware assist encompassing Intel VT-x in the processor, Intel VT for Directed I/O (VT-d) for I/O virtualization in chipset and Intel VT for Connectivity (VT-c) in the networking devices, all of which help VMs reduce the virtualization software overhead across the platform and increase the performance.

All game related issues w/ the 7970m are due to drivers; it can definitely play those games maxed out; except BF3 you might have to turn down shadows and AA. Just use SMAA or FXAA injector; you will easily gain another 10fps lol.

Aa still helps but at 1080p its not as noticeable of a bump in graphics as at lower res like 720p . Using a fxaa or smaa injector is better then stock aa in games it takes less power to run so you can get more fps

Just a word of caution for anyone who is getting a hybrid Seagate Momentus XT drive... they are super delicate and don't take well to shock at all. I've killed 3 so far in one year! 2 dropped in laptop (which never killed my non hybrib momentus drives) and 1 while being used on a hard surface in a van.

On the plus side they are a good drive and are significantly faster than the non hybrid counterpart.
