Only gripe about this thing is the speakers, but that is why i have a creative soundblaster external sound card and full size speakers arriving on thursday with my mouse.

This thing is so fast and responsive to everything i try to do, im pretty much amazed

Does anyone have any other qualms for the speakers? Otherwise i might order a desktop pair of speakers lol.
How loud are the fans during gaming, please don't say 50Db because I have no clue to what that may be, make it more relate able, like, the sound of a microwave warming something up, or maybe the sound is higher/lower to the sound of typing etc.
    Hope that makes sense.
    Thanks in advance!

I sound like an idiot but this is my first 'switchable' graphics laptop. I'm quite experienced in understanding the workings behind it yet I'm unsure in to how to check if the laptop is using the 7970 card on Intel's built in. I see that I configured ATI's 'switchable' graphics to work on the games I play but I'm not 100% sure if its using the 7970 or not. Any easy particular way to check?? Thanks! :D

A question if I may; on the trackpad thing it seems to try to scroll up/down with one finger along the right edge of the track pad, I assume similar to a mac? But it's not distinguished.
Another thing is, if I move my finger along te bottom edge it does something to, I don't know what, it seems to click on thing or something?

Is this normal or is mine broken ?

Believe me, you will notice when you're gaming on Intel vs AMD :D.

I believe if you right click the screen and go to graphics option you should be able to tell. Someone with an AMD card can chime in here (although there are some driver issues, or lack of, with the 7970)

So I received my P150EM today and I found 2 dead pixels   They aren't pitch black, more of a very dark gray visible on every color background. I wiped the screen with microfiber cloth it is not dust (maybe it is under the screen?) I paid for the dead pixel warranty and contacted Powernotebooks and RMA should be issued in next day I hope. Question- what if the next one comes with dead pixels, does the guarantee still apply or no? Also, do any of the other resellers check the screens themselves or does Sager do it? So frustrating, I hate hate hate dead pixels and will not tolerate any. Good luck to everyone else.

The bottom one is horizontal scrolling, which took me a bit to figure out. The symbol you're seeing is a little circle with spirals inside (or at least is what it looks like to me). You can turn it off in the track pad settings.

The speakers are ok in my mind. I would say that at their loudest (that I've heard) it reminds me of a hair dryer (not quite as loud though). I actually think the THX software that comes with it makes a big difference and I'm usually a purist when it comes to effects and distorting the sound.

as they are laptop speakers they arent going to compare to external speakers....... ever but for LAPTOP speakers they are quite good just lacking a lot of bass.

as for the fans, it is generally the cpu fan the ramps up most. having the volume set to 50 with music on the laptop speakers will drown out the fan noise, from 10~ metres away you can still hear the fans but if you have a heatset or just turn the sound up in your game, which i assume would normally be the case then you wont hear them. its the price you pay for having so much power in such a compact form factor

the track pad supports multi-touch scrolling too. so if you put two fingers on and pull down it will scroll down. same for scrolling across. dare i say its like a macbook

This is my first laptop as well. Have had and built many desktops. Love the portability.

Quick question to you guys waiting to replace your hd. I'm looking to buy a 512GB SSD (probably an m4). They're at $400 right now, which is a little more than I want to spend right now. Do you guys think the prices are going to drop a significant amount before August? I ask because I bought a 256 m4 for $300 and now they're a little above $200. Just curious if you guys had any opinions.

there is no way to just click and check. but if you launch a game that you havnet configure yet than close it and it will ask you want you want to use for the gfx. set it to high performance. and then go back into the game and it should be on the 7970m. other option is to set all the settings to ultra. does the game have unplayable lag? if so you are on integrated.

i'd say it really depends if crucial release a new ssd. As OCZ and SanDisk (possibly some others too) are using the 25nm Toggle Flash now it would make sense for them to release something new but just really depends on when they do.

curious what would you be doing if you dont buy one now?

Eurocom said that it should arrive in 2-3 days so I'm still hopeful for a Friday/Sat. arrival :p haha.

Good question. The 500gb 7200rpm that came with the laptop isn't bad actually. I'm not noticing a speed difference between this and my desktop (core2duo & 256gb m4) because of the difference in processing power.

I may opt for another 256gb m4. The one in my desktop now has about 100gb left with about 6-7 games installed, so I'm pretty comfortable with that size...I also ordered a 1tb external for music and videos, so maybe the 256gb would be a good idea.

I go back and forth. My birthday is coming up, so I could use my money towards a SSD.

I also got the 500GB included with the laptop so i could make it an external so i can have a bit of storage. I put in a 240GB sandisk in mine. i have a few games installed and im running Windows 7 164gig partition, Server 2008 R2 58.2gig partition and ubuntu 18.5gig partition. and i still have 24gig free on my windows 7. so i would say that the 256gig will be plenty enough for you

Guys i finally unlocked overclocking on msi (after 20 re-installs lol) running on catalyst 12.6 beta 7900 Mod. I got an average of 50-60 FPS on ultra with motion blur off and v-sync on. clocks were 900/1400. It still dropped to 35 at times but never below 30, I'm guessing because of enduro still making the 7970m underperform with the latest beta drivers.

My max temp was 88c. How do I unlock the fan speed control for afterburner to crank it all the way up to help the temp stay lower, the fans were at like medium speed the whole time. Is there a program you guys recommend that can crank the fan speed all the way up?

The color calibration is great especially if you plan on upgrading to one of the higher gamut screens. We use the Sypder 3 Elite monitor calibrating system which will create an .icc color profile which is the most accurate for that particular screen. There are quite a few people here who have gotten it and do agree it makes a difference.

My malibal p150em is almost here and I'm planning in buying an ssd to complete my build. I haven't found anywhere which size of optical bay caddy to get though. Can anyone answer this for me? I'm pretty sure it's the 9.5mm but I would hate to order the wrong size.

Hey guys. For those of you that are using this laptop on the couch (in your lap). I highly recommend Logitech's N315. It's a solid thing, fits the np9150 perfectly and the retractable mouse pad is nice and functional. It's also thing and small enough that you'll probably be able to pack it in your laptop bag or at least a suitcase. Pretty reasonably priced too.

I've only had it for a few hours right now, but I played a game of starcraft on it, done some browsing and really like it in terms of functionality, comfort and size.

I've kind of become an accessory monger. I've bought a really nice belkin laptop bag, mouse, external keyboard, external hard drive and a new thumb drive. Please let me know if I've forgotten anything :p

Hi everybody. Thanks beforehand for all the help you could bring me. I'm thinking on getting this Sager np 9150 but first I've got two questions. If I choose the gtx 670M can I update the gpu later? (like when I get the money? :D) and can I add a second hard drive later? Thanks again for the orientation.

Yes, but you might have to upgrade the power brick, and when I say might I mean probably.

yes, but you'll need to remove the odd and buy a caddy.

Hope I helped (on the phone so pardon any mistakes)

If you upgrade from the GTX 670 to 7970m you won't need a new power supply.

    The P150EM has a 180W power supply, it can handle the 670 , 675, 7970.

The 7970m uses about the same amount of power as a 670m....

So yes you can upgrade down the line.

I just hope that we can upgrade next year when the 8970m comes out :p haha.

How the hell are dead pixels not covered in the standard warranty? Are you saying if I don't get the policy and the laptop has dead pixels, I cannot get the laptop replaced under warranty? If that is true, that is some CHEAP stuff.

For Sager, you have a 30 day return, you just pay for return shipping. So you could just return it, eat the $30 in shipping, and order another one. Otherwise the no dead pixel guarantee I guess they will pay for round trip shipping and process your order without having to charge your card or pay for another laptop. It used to be $100 which was a bit steep but for $60 I think it's a good insurance against dead pixels especially for an expensive laptop. Just make sure you do a thorough screen review by cycling different colors full screen on your lappie once you get it.
