Hey guys,
I have a couple of quick questions about hard drives.
I didn't choose an optical bay hard drive, but a cd/dvd rw drive. This means that I can only have my main hd (and an msata) and a cd/dvd rw. If I were to want a 2nd hd, I'd have to replace my cd/dvd rw drive?
Also, in the np9150, are msatas easy to install? Easy access?
Thanks!
-
2) Couldn't be easier! Pop the back and voila easy access -
mSata is easy to install; from what I've gathered it only takes about 5 minutes; you just open the laptop up and plug it in.
Yes you would need to replace the CD/DVD drive with an ODB hard drive bracket and then put your hard drive/SSD whatever into that bracket and then that goes into the CD/DVD rom drive bay.
Dobt! I was too slow! Jaug got ithaha.

thanks a lot guys for both responses. Just wanted to keep my options open.

Has anyone tried to get one of these IPS monitors working:
Budget Korean 27†IPS Monitor Information and Comparison of the Different Brands and Models | Swift World
They say you need DP 1.3 (I understand we have 1.1, thought the 7970m supports 1.3 from what I have read). Is there a way to drive 2560x1440? My understanding is that the 7970 can drive 4k (~4000x~2000) but I am unsure via what port if at all.

Here are the specs for the 7970m:
Cutting-edge integrated display support
DisplayPort 1.2
Max resolution: 2560x1600 per display
Multi-Stream Transport
21.6 Gbps bandwidth
High bit-rate audio
HDMI (with 3D, 4k, Deep Color, x.v.Color)
Max resolution: 4096x3112
1080p60 Stereoscopic 3D
Quad HD/4k video support
Dual-link DVI with HDCP
Max resolution: 2560x1600
VGA
Max resolution: 2048x1536
So, the question is, is the 9150 with a 7970m adopting the specs from the 7970 or is it still DP 1.1... -
Hey guys, does anyone have some insight on this? It's driving me nuts! -
-
I the 750GB version of the stock drive a good option? / What makes a SSD better?
Would it be in my interest to not get the mSATA SSD right now, and buy/install it later if I need it?
Is the i7-3720 worth the $160 more bucks than the i7-3610?
Do I need 12GB of RAM?
Also, I want blu-ray capabilities, so I should not get an extra HD in my ODB, correct?
Also, does the color quality actually decrease and screen quality become grainier if I get a matte screen?
Thanks, and sorry for all the questions! -
I FINALLY got an email from Xotic, telling me I have to provide additional information for my order! I was gonna call but then i realized that their business hours are over.
Fingers crossed though, its been 3 weeks and I might finally see some progress!
-
the i7-3720QM is not worth it if you aren't goign to be doing heavy CPU-reliant work.
If you want blu-ray, don't get an HDD in the ODB.
I don't notice a difference between glossy and matte in terms of color. -
Awesome, thanks!
I think I'm gonna go with 256GB SSD, no mSATA For now if I can install it later, the i7-3610, blu-ray, and Matte.
I guess my only questions are would sacrificing all the memory of 750GB for the 256GB SSD be worth it, and would I do better to have 8GB or 12GB of RAM? -
Just got my shipping notice! Hope to have it by next week.
-
there are two things that disappoints me about this laptop!!!
first and foremost are the speakers, honestly I wonder what the point of the sub woofer is? it barely does anything! the speakers on this laptop has no bass period.
even my 5 year old gateway m285 has louder speakers.
secondly, couldn't they have put in a HD webcam on a laptop this expensive =|
but ya i expected more from the speakers -
just did a clean install of windows 7 and installed all the drivers from the stock disc, how come the bluetooth driver are not showing up? also i tried updating the catalyst to 12.6 Beta, but whwn i uninstall the stock catalyst the intel driver is also uninstalled... when install the new 12.6 it says catalyst wont work.

The 256GB will be about 5 to ten times faster with all loading of games, programs, files. So Yah it'a pretty huge difference ... you can install another 500GB normal HD in the optical bay drive . Then just get an external DVD player that is portable. I almost never need to use Disks on my computer so I'm going to put one in mine for storage.
-
OK so say I want to put a hdd in my optical bay, where would I get the stuff to do it?

You can order from the reseller or a universal one from Amazon for ten bucks ha.
-
Can you link one the the universal one on Amazon? I just don't know what I am looking for exactly so I don't want to get the wrong thing.
The quick responses are very appreciated. -
Fortunately, I have a nice LED or a brain that tells me tht it's been toggled.
I want to turn off ALL of those on-screen notifications. -
I definitely want to be able to read DVDs and Blu-ray, though. Should I still go for just 256GB on solid state?
-
Personally I would because I hate wait times. But if you need more space then get a 750GB normal HD and buy a msata cache drive they are like 100-150 for a 32 gig onefrom adata you just have to set it up as a Intel cache srt I think it's called. Or get the 750GB hybrid drive its from seagate and pretty good I had one before and liked it. But SSD is faster of course
-
I'm just waiting for the faithful day when I get a 1tb SSD for 20 bucks.... sigh.....

I'm guessing people don't like blurays that much on laptops
-
If you burn blurays or download them and convert them to the right format , mkv I think, then you can watch them with VLC player at 1080p. So you don't exactly need the player in your laptop you can burn them with an external bluray and your legit that's what I'm going to do.
-
I'm a sucker for lossless format, although new HI10P looks amazing!

Is it feasible to just have the 256gb M4 (w/ blu-ray in ODB) and an external hard drive for extra storage if I need it?
-
can you see if you hear the sub? thanks -
-
-
Does it support 1866mhz ram? I only see i7 supporting up to 1600mhz.
Does the BIOS have an optional Turbo mode that can automatically overclock the Nvidia gtx 680m card by a theoretical 15 percent? (I read that it depends on the manufacturer)
Do the BIOS support hdd password so that we can take advantage of the SSD encryption? -
the GTX 680M isn't released yet, but i'm pretty sure that there will be no overclock option in bios. you can do the overclock with the MSI after burner. -
Eurocom is sending my rig today! Was tested 24 hours straight the past 24 hours and is being UPS'd over here from New York [near there base in Canada].
They said 2-3 days shipping, I hope for 2
95% NTSC Gamut 15.6"
8GB 1600mhz RAM
Ivy Bridge 3610 CPU
500GB Hybrid Drive
Radeon HD 7970m GPU
IC Diamond GPU + CPU
Stock Wifi
Going to be throwing a 256GB Crucial M4 in the hard drive bay and possibly scooting the 500GB into the ODB, still unsure about the ODB though; may wait until I need more space.
Hoping to just sell the 500GB Hybrid for $80 or so and putting that towards a nice mSata or SSD for the ODB Though, once a 240GB is $150 or below I don't mind it running at Sata 2 speeds; still 300mb/s. haha.
Also going to buy a new Wifi card in the next few months and install that. -
-
Can someone tell me how to turn off the on-screen notifications for the hot keys.
-
Yeah it's been almost 2 months since I ordered; But I've been waiting 5 months with no gaming computer. Very sad stuff! Hahaha. can't wait for this beast.
May try a slight 10% Overclock just for fun but probably won't need it
With overvolting to 1.075 people are getting to 20% OC. -_-
Putting it a bout the 7870 desktop GPU haha. -
Tell me how the bezel looks
congrats!

I'm not accountable for my suggestion
. but if it works it'll be hella cool.
-
I'm too scared to do it first! hahaha
Maybe I'll just put some thin matted layer of film over it or something. Idk... Hahaha. Not trying to ruin the $1700 Rig right away .... hahaha. -
So I just got my first laptop ever, with the 7970m!
My question is, how do you guys know what the temp is of the video card, etc? And what is a safe temp to get to without causing damage? I plan to game with this beast -
Download MSI Afterburner or HWinfo; I think both show it....
You won't ruin the card until you hit above 90C. With the GCN 28nm architecture used on the 7970m you don't really have to worry about this. People haven't been hitting those kinds of temps even running Furmark; which tries to make your card as hot as possible; no game would ever make it as hot as Furmark.
So don't worry too much haha.
Most people; myself included; like to keep the temperature under 80C though just for paranoia. -
Just got mine like 2 hours ago and i am beyond pleased. I have to say this thing booted up like a dream and it has been nothing but smooth since i got it, the finger print software took only about 3 min to set up and already has made launching applications/logging into websites like NBR faster and easier.

Hello,
I just received my new lappie a week and ever I can't figure out how onkyo speakers are supposed to work. Basically, what happened is I can't feel any bass at all and that is including when I plug in earphones into jack,
sound is awful and I want hear other people's opinions about how their laptops sounds, I have a suspicion that it may be fault with my sound chip for that realtek and THX drivers are all in orders.
Thanks for replies
