the stock matte display should still be a 60Hz display. You shouldn't notice any difference over 60fps due to the display frequency (I could be wrong).

what is Hertz? Hertz - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

That should also handle what it means. Hz is just short for Hertz.

The meaning of life is 42. :p

    Is there any-and I mean any-difference between Malibal's Lotus P150emSE and Sager's NP9150?

No its the same thing. Resellers just relabel logos sometimes. Also dumbbquestion but could I plug the 150em into an external 120Hz display and have it work at 120p fps? I'm guessing it will work but not sure.

Just wanted to share the love i got from derek at xotic just now on the live support. I was so shocked that he had done this, he has definitely made me a happy customer!

    That's what I figured.

I'm back to favoring the 7970m now, which means I'm trying to decide between a 9150 from xotic and the p150emSE from malibal. One concern I have though is where malibal falls as far as their shipments of the recent batch of 7970s. Are they on par with all of the other retailers?

Since xotic has been getting swamped with new orders on top of backorders, would it be better to go with malibal since I need this by early august?

You should be able to get it from any of the resellers long before early August.

No, most people don't buy a spare battery because there are usually places to plug it in to operate or recharge, and they don't have to carry the weight.

We usually recommend that you wait until you tell yourself enough times "I really should buy a spare battery", and then just get one from the Accessories Store.

Is it plugged all the way into the SATA connector? If you have access to another computer, does that computer detect the drive at all?

Because I don't need a lot of RAM (and I can easly upgrade to 16 when I want to), I personally would get less RAM and maybe go for an SSD. If that is something you are interested in, of course.

Not me. Recharging spare batteries is supposedly a huge pain.

Yeah, the branding and splash screen (I think) are different.

If you have the right cable.

It doesn't work that way, your order will arrive at the same time whether you order from Xotic, LPC-digital, or PNB as they all get theirs built by sager, assuming you don't need to have it sent to their warehouse for anything in which it might be a day off due to shipping.

What will you be using this for? If it's just for gaming, certain things like the RAM and CPU are probably overkill.

I'm going to be playing Gaming, Developing, and Photoshoping on it.

Is it worth it to get the steelseries over the standard Sager/Clevo keyboard?

As well how long would it take for this laptop to ship?

Hi everyone, I just received my 9150 a few days back but have just been able to install some things recently.

I booted up CS:Source expecting some great frame rates... but I was running at around 31... Does this seem low to anyone else? I've got the 670M. However, something else that's fishy is that when I right-click on my desktop -> screen resolution -> advanced, I see the generic Intel HD graphics settings and no NVidia settings.

I haven't had time to really fool around and see what's going on yet, so I figured I would throw it out there in case someone had a quick suggestion off the top of their head.

reinstall stock nvidia driver. make sure you are not on battery savings mode. Go to Nvidia control panel and see if the 3D settings are in high performance mode.

You should make sure you go into the nVidia software and set CSS to run using the 670M. Also I don't remember the exact pathway but if you go into (in CSS) options->video-> advanced you should see "use multicore rendering" or something like that. Make sure that is enabled.

I had a similar issue where I currently have an i7 and radeon 5650 and was getting around 30-40 fps in hl2 games. I fished around the options found this turned it on and got about 100+ lol.

These two are the only things that come to mind off the top of my head

    Good Luck!

Hi guys. I'm going t be starting college in the fall and looking to get a new laptop. Ill be using it for some gaming (Starcraft II mostly) but also some programming and possibly image/video editing/rendering. Here's my current build:

Display 15.6" Full HD LED-Backlit Display with Super Glossy Surface (1920 x 1080)
Video & Graphics Card Nvidia GeForce GTX 675M GPU with 2GB GDDR5 Video Memory [$100.00]
    CPU Processor 3rd Generation Intel® Core™ i7-3610QM Processor ( 6MB L3 Cache, 2.30GHz)
Thermal Compound IC Diamond Thermal Compound - CPU + GPU [$35.00]
    Operating System Genuine MS Windows® 7 Home Premium 32/64-Bit Edition ( 64-Bit Preloaded )
    Memory 8GB Dual Channel DDR3 SDRAM at 1600MHz - 2 X 4GB
Primary Hard Disk Drive 256GB Crucial M4 Series SATA3 Solid State Disk Drive [$195.00]
mSATA SSD Drive — For Intel Smart Response Technology None
Optical Drive Bay — Optical Drive or Hard Disk Drive in Optical Drive Bay with Caddy case 6X Blu-ray Reader/8X DVD±R/2.4X +DL Super-Multi Drive & Software [$80.00]
Wireless Network Card Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6235 - 802.11A/B/G/N Wireless LAN + Bluetooth Combo Module [$25.00]
Primary Battery Smart Li-ION Battery Pack
    Integrated Security Device Fingerprint Reader
Microsoft Office Microsoft Office Starter 2010 - Included in Price
Warranty Sager 1 Year Limited Parts and Labor Warranty

    A few questions:

    1) Is the diamond thermal compound worth it/necessary instead of the stock?
    2) I'll be a CS major and I feel like I might want to use Linux at times. I don't really know much about dual boots or VMs now (or even about linux except that its something programmers should have available) but do you think my current setup can handle it if I want a Linux partition later to dual boot? If not, how would running Linux off an external HD be?
    3) Should I order from a site like xotic as opposed to the sager site? I've only heard good things about xotic, but I wouldn't be using any of their customizations (overclocking or design etc.) so is there any real reason I should buy through them?
    4) what are the advantages to getting the matte display instead of glossy? I won't want the color gamut but is it worth the extra money for the matte finish?
    5) out of curiosity, since I might upgrade memory later, is the memory that comes when i buy installed in the easily accessible slots or the slots under the keyboard? It'd be nice if the accessible slots were free for later memory upgrades...

I know this is a lot of questions and probably really exposes my ignorance about laptops. Thanks so much!

    1. IC Diamond will keep your GPU and CPU with about 5 degrees lower

    2. I don't know about dual boot, but i think you can handle very good this problem with VMs (256GB is plenty of room).

    3. Sager site is more expensive. Go with xoticpc.

    4. Go with matte because glossy is about annoying reflections

    5. The memory is under the keyboard.

Hi all, is there any way to turn off the annoying little notifications that pop up when you turn on/off num lock, caps lock, wireless, etc?

I use an external keyboard @ work, and any time I start typing on the num pad, the num lock notification pops up, slightly shifting focus away from what I'm working on for a 1/2 second, so I get interrupted in the middle of my typing. Needless to say, this is driving me to murder :) Thoughts?

    1) I would highly recommend it. It will keep the CPU and GPU cooler (maybe ~5C)

    2) I've run linux in dual (well, really, it was a quad, but you get the idea..) boot and VM, here is what I would say on the matter:
-VMs are really convenient, easy to set up, and easy to access (stay within main OS).
-VMs usually install their own drivers for you, which is super nice.
-VMs are definitely slower, and can't be used for certain applications (for example, I was using fedora and ubuntu at the time. A PLC (small logic controller for sensor array) I had to download my code onto needed linux with *native* USB access. VMs couldn't provide that, so I had to run the OS natively.)
-Dual boot can sometimes be a pain to set up, and drivers can be finicky.
    -Dual boot is faster.
-The grub boot loader (popular "what OS do you want to boot into?" switcher for linux/windows) makes your computer look like something in a CIA movie.

The only thing I would note is that linux drivers for the 7970m (if there ones at all) will not support Enduro. The GPU will just be on.

    3) Order from xotic. They are cheaper and have better customer service.

    4) If you order two SODIMMs from xotic, they will place them in the slots under the keyboard, leaving the easily-accessible slots open for you.

    2) You should have no problem making a smallish Linux partition and dual booting. I'd prob go about 60GB for the Linux and leave the rest for Windows. Most moden Linux distributions and Windows will do the dual boot configurations for you during install. Ubuntu or Mint are the favoured Linux Distubutions right now.

I am simply curious more than anything but... I hardly notice anyone getting a NP9150 with the 3920XM processor. Nearly all of us, myself included, are getting the 3610QM (which is a fine chip). Is it the cost of the upgrade, not enough bang for the buck, or what?

    Remember, the 3610qm is a quad-core i7 :p.
For most purposes, it won't be slow for a while. I simply don't need more power than the 3610 provides.

    Hey all,
I'm seriously considering a 9150 now that the 680m is available (well shortly). I had a Sager a few years back, miserable experience, but I blame the technology more than the company. It had one of the last gen Pentium 4's when the clock speeds were 3.8 to 4.0 ghz, even in desktops they ran stupidly hot and were horribly unreliable, so you can imagine how that went in a notebook. But from what I've read, Sager is making some reliable products these days, and with Ivy Bridge and Kepler, heat shouldn't be a problem. Who's the best reseller in everyone's opinion? I really want top notch customer service and warranty support in case there is a problem.

    Thanks in advance.

totally agree with you there, I chose the 3610 also, anything to take into account is notebookcheck are speculating that the overall performance is similar to the sandy bridge 2920xm Intel Core i7 3610QM Notebook Processor - Notebookcheck.net Tech

Yeah the 3610 is within 10% of a desktop Core i5 2500..... Plenty of power for gaming/programming. The only time you might need more is for intense programming/3d modeling/multiple VM's at once. Otherwise for 95% of gamers/programmers even this should be just fine. It's about 15% faster than the mobile i7 2670 from last year.

Just got confirmation that my 7970m is coming in tomorrow and should be built friday/saturday and shipped out monday w/ 2-3 day shipping! Should hopefully have my 7970m P150EM w/ 256GB SSD by wednesday next week! Omgz! Going to take photo's and post videos of it gaming if possible w/ avg FPS etc. Really want to play some BF3 on it on Ultra w/ SMAA injector hah. Wish Diablo 3 wasn't being ruined by botters/dupers -_- Hope they fix all of those problems ASAP. Also want to get Warface and Planetside 2, am signed up for Plantside 2 Beta test; hope I get in :p

Also going to try Skyrim w/ High Res mods and full AA etc. Hope that turns out well as I want to play through again as a dagger theif for the 15X criticals, or maybe a mage. Hehe.

Can't wait for the mSata's to get cheaper; want to throw in a 256GB mSata, max is like 300mb/s because of Sata II instead of 500-600 max for Sata III still way better than a HDD. I may also throw a 500GB hybrid drive into the optical instead; found a optical bracket for $10 on amazon and already have the 500GB hybrid drive; but IDK if that would be legit or if I should wait for mSata. Hmmmm.... Haha.

I'm sorry to hear about your poor experience, but I can see why it wouldn't work out all that well.

I'm buying a sager because a friend of mine did last year, and he *loves* it. That, and I like the bang/buck ratio. ;)
I (along with my friend and many others) ordered from XoticPC.com. So far, the people I have interacted with have been nice, helpful, and knowledgeable. Although I haven't gotten the computer yet (nor have I had to deal with how they will treat my extended warranty, should I need to use it), but I would currently recommend them.
Hope this go-around is much better!

Edit: some resellers (like xotic) have discounts specifically for members of this forum. another plus in my book!

Are you serious o_O that sounds waaaaaayyy overkill for an entering i7 to be compared to an extreme i7 of the last gen, especially since this is only a tick, not a tock.

I'm astounded by how low my computer temperatures are while gaming. After long periods of gaming I never seem to hit above 62-63 C on the CPU. Crazy

Why is it overkill? They are going off of benchmarks so it's pretty accurate...? Take a look at all the benches; its on par with the 2920xm in almost every bench; kind of awesome.

I'm with you guys and everything you said. I am well aware of the benchmarks of the 3610 and how it compares to last gen's CPU's. The 3610 is fantastic for most of what I will be doing with my NP9150 (whenever it decides to arrive...). However, I might upgrade the CPU in 18 months or so.

I just got Gamecom 780 headphones and a new mouse for my P150em from my Sig. Probably also throwing a 500GB hybrid drive in the Optical bay instead of msata. Should be pretty freaking awesome 8) Want to OC 10% on the 7970m and play some ultra BF3 like it ain't no thing. Really wish D3 wasn't getting hacked so hard -_- RMAH is flawed majorly; gold farmers are killing it along w/ dupers / hackers.

Dang, you guys are soo lucky getting your shipments in. I put my order in 28 of May and Xotic STILL hasn’t taken the money off of my card, it’s been a while and I feel I won’t be seeing my laptop until early August at this rate :(
    Anyone else have better service?
As a side, note, which E3 games will you guys be playing with the 7970m?
1.Assassins Creed 3 (look at my avatar lol)
    2. Watch Dogs
    3. Splinter Cell Blacklist
